On drywall stilts 😄
Its so great to look back at this videos and realize the little struggles you faced and pointed out that maybe at the moment I first watch I wasnt paying that much attention because I just wanted to get things done but I slowly got them as I was getting better at the job and now watching this videos again feels more real and I understand more
0:49 😂 you know when a guy's been in the trade a long time when he describes rough spots as " boogers and clumps".
Hi. I'm thinking about getting a compound tube and was wondering if you could give me an idea on how many feet the 42" tube will go before it needs refilled. Thanks! Love the videos
I never get tired of watching this dude. I’m glad he keeps it real too. I’m tired of drywall and I don’t even do it lol. Jk but I actually am tired of painting. I wish you well ben
As a self taught plasterer I learned renovating my kitchen with a hawk, trowel and a 6" knife....oh and a mountain of used sandpaper :-)
Will a mudtube work with a angle head or is a flusher a better tool for the mudtube
Love that your real. Saying "I wish i could go around once but i can't give that to you today". And you take the time to go over multiple times to make it right. Hell yea!!!!!!
Thank you:)
Love it when you do the tube and flusher work as it helps me with getting my technique down. I’ve got a order of Columbia tomahawks, corner bead rollers, outside corner applicator coming soon. Really enjoying my Columbia set and now expanding it from watching your videos. Thanks so much Ben!!
Awesome to hear. Yup, once you get the hang of the tools there is no going back.
Instablaster.
They work okay if everything is more or less square, but even if your just going to use the compound tube spend the money and get the mud runner heads. And if you do it every day, just get boxes or the mud runner. The mud runner is God!
Have you ran the mudshot? I’ve been running one for two months and I like it so much more than the runner.
No, I was going to buy one, but I didn’t like that you couldn’t run over the corner without adding more mud. Sometimes a corner just needs cleaned up. But with the Mudshot the pressure would automatically add more mud, correct? I do love the idea of not having to twist the handle, sometimes that’s hard when it gets wet.
It has a check valve to regulate mud flow or shut it off, when the framing is extremely off I run my mud super thin which requires a clean up pass so I just close it and no more mud is added just cleans up the angle.
I wish I knew that before I bought the mud runner. Sometimes when your hands are wet and slimy with mud it’s hard to twist the handle.
You make great content man. I will most likely never do what you just showed us how to do, but still interesting to watch.
Thank you for your videos--they're the best on RUclips, IMO. Two situations I'd love to see you address in your videos (if you're looking for new ideas) are the following:
1) I have open wood stud wall that had 1/2" plywood added for shearwall, and plan to add 1/2" sheetrock on top of that. The existing window sill of the old double hung window will end up too shallow to cover the edges of plywood and sheetrock. I don't want to remove the old sill since it's a part of the larger exterior sill from 1905. Have you ever had to make sill extensions? 2) I have an open wood stud wall in same house, previously lath and plaster; studs are full 2" rough and not perfectly flat for sheetrock--all different thicknesses to shim. Any experience with sheetrock shims? Thanks!
I just couldnt get what "left-hand side, right-hand side" means. I guess you mean the left corner of the dry-wall knife is what goes into the corner?
I’m trying to figure that out myself. Any clarification Vancouver carpenter?
And at 2:36. What the hell is going on there?!? How you gonna fill that hole??? WOW
Great video! Only thing that bothers me is that you don’t take the applicator of when you fill the pump lol and that you do your corners first, we always do it after second coat (first coat for some of you)
Love our videos! Please consider telling us how you would fix those pesky recurring 1/16” cracks that form on window corners (and doors) caused by settling.
If it's the ceiling inside corner I load up the inside corner trowel and feather the edge in 1 shot and no sanding. Then crown moulding hides the rest. I love my saw 😂
not a lot of people know but I actually play accordion 😊😊😊😜
Do you tape drywall as well?
Grand Royal 😆😆😆 Not as Good as Ben 😁✅
Used so many of your vids drywalling a room with ceilings and uneven framing by the builder(utility room in basement). I found you bids after I started job and realized how hard it was going to be. Worked out well for an amateur. Thanks! You don't want to see how much mud I went through (and sanding) though!
Sounds like Lite Line the best for the corners
It's what i usually use
I'm Back in class Again Today. And taking my Notes. As far as the sanding goes, on the ceiling, what strength is the sandpaper you are using? Or I guess I should say what number grade?? Or is it fine or ruff.
150 is a good middle ground. 120 for rough sand and 180 for fine sanding.
Definitely the best drywaller on the Tube!
Yep. A big reason is he does it right. Takes the time when needed and does things the best way. Tape on corners and all hahah
Why thank you James :)
Inside corners?!? Good! I need to learn more.
:D I hope this helps!!
I always finish flats butts and corner beads before final coat in the corners to hide box marks or trowel marks
How come you look down on wing tools (or 'corner trowels') yet that flusher, which is not so very different, leaves you giddy with delight? Just curious.
These leave very consistent results that I have never been able to get with the corner trowel. I will admit I never spent much time trying.
@@vancouvercarpenter The key is to have a narrow fill of mud. If you fill the corner the way your tube fills it (1" wide) then a pass with the wing tool will do an excellent job, with feathered edges and all. You need to press it in there firmly. Because the wing tool bends it is less prone to trouble with slightly out of square corners.

"Driving on the left hand side" makes perfect sense to me as Brit....
My girls makes that sound.
Hi Ben !
Thanks again for all the GREAT videos and tips. :))
Question: Why would you use all purpose mud in this pass instead of finishing mud ? Is there any difference ?
Thanks again
Terry
I don't use finish mud very often. I like to be able to tape with all purpose in a pinch if that's the only bucket I choose to bring on the job. So it's really about just carrying less stuff around. There isn't a huge difference between All purpose light and light finish muds except for adhesion.
@@vancouvercarpenter Thanks Ben for the reply. Which one adheres better ?
Here in Michigan all purpose is strictly for taping and paper faced metal bead because it shrinks soo much. I like to use USG mid weight cause it’s a bit harder than the light mud and doesn’t get dinged up as much as the light finish mud.... generally I’ll use lightweight on patches
@@terrybeaud9348 ap has more glue. Finishing mud sands easier
If you're going to finish coat with lightweight Blue AP synko make sure you're neat and tidy.. thin the mud down to act like a finishing mud. Otherwise your arms will take a beating sanding lol. Finish mud sands easily. Also easy to oversand whereas blue AP you can undersand. They also have different strengths when it comes to resisting wall dings. If you were to 3x coat corner beads with finish mud they would be softer than baby shit and chip whenever you look at them wrong. Finish mud is best served as skim coat on final coat after the joint is built up (with a denser mud) and basically flat already requiring the skim only or all coats on ceilings, easy to sand, easy to apply, can't go wrong on higher up stuff that doesn't take abuse, ceilings, bulkheads, etc.
Much appreciated VC ❤️
I wonder... would that cap and head fit on my sausage gun? I don't necessarily want the big mud tube, but if i could spoosh mud into the corners with my gun, that might work for me.
Question ! If you start a corner with the mud tube / Flusher combo, do you continue skim coats with this to level 3/4, or do you use a knife and pan to keep feathering out? Cheers!
How do you like (or not,) the Canam stuff? Specifically the P502 kit VS the Columbia kit?
Been hand taping for 12 years. Just bought my first set of corner tools. Much faster. I laughed when you said puking down the wall. I had a 6" puddle of mud in one corner and it rained mud down on a few walls, did the first coat of corners on the main floor of a house the other day. Was a rough start. Actually even thought I had made a mistake buying the cheaper set. But said "f**k it this has to work" and kept going. By the last couple rooms I figured it out and I was producing nicer corners. Whole house took 45 minutes I think. Good luck doing that by hand hah, like you said nothing you can't sand out later so keep moving.
In the video it looks the corners are all flat to begin with. What about inside corners where the wall edge, ceiling edge, or both are tapered drywall edges? Does the corner flusher fill in the taper or does that cause any issues? How about hand finishing a corner? Does the technique change if you have a tapered edge to fill? I understand the tapered flat joints vs. flat butt joints from your videos, but I don’t think I’ve herd you mention anything specific to butt corners vs. tapered corners vs. half and half corners.
say it beats hand taping but gotta factor in all the passes your doing pumping the mud out goin back picking the corners the extra slop on the floor the expense of the tools im hawk and trowel taper in connecticut to each there own i understand you can get it down to 2 passes or even have a better system like the mud runner that combines the mud tube with an angle head on the end. Do one side then the other all have to do is sand it minor touch up if needed and your done jm2c. like your videos btw just saying based on my experience and i use the mud tube but only for tape coat with 90d angle head.
Liking the content. I know exactly how to plaster too bad it’ll only take 10-20 years of practice. Have you posted a video on how to hang drywall? Thx Phil.
where can I buy a mud tube ?
Hi, I too live in Vancouver and I would like to know how to fix a bad drywall repair. While adding mud to the drywall I didn't realise that it was not flat as it should be in some parts and so I let it dry. After I sanded it a bit but decided it was somehow going to look better after the primer. After I applied the primer, it has now become harder to sand and I have realized my problem. But what should I do now? Continue sanding with a block. or use an electric sander?
Like a sponge absorbing info watching your videos...just used inside corner tools on my last job and it deff speed up the time...what brand is your compound tube? And will most other brands fit it?
RUclips recommending this after I finish my drywall project....face palm
You explain things well your a good teacher but I think you should check out tapetech tools because they are the best they have the best designs and have easy clean designs to them now
I personally like to do hand angles i use to flush but find i can get a better angle by hand takes a lil bit longer since u have to wait for 1 side to dry but also find it easier to sand just a personal preference thou but if u need a job done quicker deff the best way to go great vid
Good to watch. Have been toying with getting a mud runner of some sort and some flushers to go with the corner roller I already have. I generally only have to coat 1 more time after the initial tape/rolling knifing though, kinda why I drag my feet. Keep up the good work!
a made 3 rooms in my house with a 6".. not funny :)
tus videos ayudaron mucho!
Dude thanks man. I do smaller finishing jobs so these are perfect tools for me
I have that same tube and flusher handle. I mostly use the angle box now though.
hack
Thank you for buying a new camera the video looks great
Love your videos, would you do one on different type of rollers for different uses?
To many ads
I’ve learned a lot from your video, keep em coming!
Excuses , excuses and I hear that's good enough lol
Awesome video, as always! 👍

:)
What is concrete fill and what does it do?
It's a drywall filler that was designed for skimming out concrete slabs. Like for the ceilings in concrete buildings.
Do you work on your own? Are you a lone wolf?
Yes
Did he say "start in the top" when preparing to sand the ceiling? Gotta love our Canadian friends. If I didn't watch this video I might have started in the basement. Great video, love how well you explain everything you do.
Mike sch76 Yes, that’s what it’s all aboot! 🇨🇦
@@catlady8324 you guys are all hilarious, it's always about one boot, never a pair.
Mike sch76 That’s gold! 😹
@@catlady8324 Shouldn't it be maple syrup, that's more precious in Canada?
And I agree, our friendly neighbor to the north makes great videos. We’re lucky to have him on the RUclips!
Why not an angle box? You fill and glaze in the same pass and seems like it's easier to control.
Hector Espudo, trust me it’s not
Your beads and joints should be done first. Angles are always last to do. It ties everything in. I yi yi. Another expert. Not
it's a demonstration video, when you do teaching and demos you sometimes have to do them out of sync.
