this guy is singlehandedly teaching me how to fix my jacked up house from the previous home owner's "thoughtful renovations"
Awesome! Glad to help you out
Me too.
Love the slow-mo action!! Finally I got the “do one side at a time”!
He’s the best.Practical tips rather than being “showy” for the camera.
Thank you. Guy
I use the inside corner trial when installing my tape only. Works great for me.. Great videos, thank you.
Great video. Clear explanation of what to do AND NOT to do and WHY!
Thank you so much! THAT’s how you float. I’ve been struggling trying both sides at once. Thanks for teaching🦋
Glad to see you doing better & have enjoyed how you're educating the public about the trade.
I've not seen you talk about the "other" tapes available- "Straight Flex","No-coat"325/425,ect.... I've been doing drywall since 1975 from California to NC & I used the PVC tape on angle/inside corners up to 10' long most of the time since you can run a corner in one trip without waiting on the day+ dry time, it also provides a "very" straight corner/angle if the drywall/framing work is less than perfect. It's ideal for the novice finisher & it's really hard to burn if sanded too much by a rookie. It may cost more & you need to pre-cut but that ends up being a production advantage by cutting many pcs. & standing them in the corners. They take less compound too as you only coat the outer edge on the 2nd coat. It's also my tape of choice in high humid or constantly wet areas where delamination often occurs. Also I've never heard you talk about "Rucco"mud by Southern products-IMO the best mud/joint compound made! using a small shot of dawn to a mixed bucket prolongs the shelf life of the mud by months & makes smoother- easier to sand joints instead of straight water for thinning.
I got retired due to cancer & brain fog from chemo & radiation treatments too.
Thanks for the detailed explanation on how to actually use the knife. Best channel I've found
I love using a corner trowel. Once you get one broken in, kinda like getting a plaster trowel broken in. It's all angle and pressure. Over time it gets easier and better to use. But I also do them the way you do. I like both techniques. Once you have the corner trowel broken in, you can coat the angle and feather the edge in one stroke. But yea, they can be a pain till you have them broke in. And breaking them in don't happen in a week. Great vid. Keep it up.
Countless thank yous, thanks for sharing your experience and thank you vets everywhere!
Great video and clear explanation of the different ways to use the tools.
Glad it was helpful!
Now I know what to do,you’re the best
1 coat each side good enuf👍,I've tried flashers they don't leave sq corner and after using flashers u still have to fin by hand nice job !!!!!!
I never tried to tape with a dog tird either but it sure would make a great video, might go viral! Great video, simple basic instructions.
Love the attention to detail that you show. It definitely helps us learn better.
I use Levelline you can coat both sides in same day gives you perfect corners plus very strong
Very well explained and demonstrated.
Thank you
Love these videos. Always learning the little details that make the difference.
Good video. I use mesh tape the smaller tighter looking tape and applicated both sides with a 4 then run the angle knife down and cut my edges with a six. Might have to run the angle knife again after the first run but its ready for touch up on the final day. Dont like that plus 3 though. You are very skilled and its an art what you do! Now a days drywallers are getting paid what they should have been long ago. Mud on brotha!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips! Helped me get going with no experience this weekend. Might even pass your inspection. ;-D
Not bad sir, curious why you only show doing one side,a very common problem for diyers is not recking the opposing ( allready) mudded corner.I am self taught but always ready/willing to learn smart tips and better ways of doing things. I do use a corner trowel but never to lay on the mud, its a variation and also agree that only 1 coat is needed for inside corners-ha,ha yankee term maybe?-or ( angles) Good to see a pro teaching instead of a learner teaching another learner like many other y.t vids. Out there on stuff. God bless and keep up the good work.
thanks for the comment and when I’m coating angles by hand, yes I called them angles, it’s easier to do one side and that way you don’t mess up the other side like you were talking about. Let it dry and then come back and do the other side.
I don’t waste my time taping inside corners the traditional way anymore. I use 425 & 325 tape! Way easier, way cleaner, and you can come back after embedding the tape and take care of both your lefts and right sides at the same time. Great invention!
They are great but extremely pricey at around .70/ft.
That Kilted Guy DIY Home Improvement But…you need to consider labor ain’t cheap either! This makes it faster, helps keep cost down and keep me competitive. 👍🏻
Tundra Whisperer must cost like $600 just for the angle tape on an average house?
That Kilted Guy DIY Home Improvement I don’t do whole house projects, just kitchen, baths, and small additions. 👍🏻
I’ll have to do a video comparing the two methods. Makes sense though.
Great info
How to do it,How many coats, what it should look like when done thanks
Do you ever do both sides of angle in one day?
Final swipe with the knife, did you tilt it up more instead of lowering the handle as you swipe like doing bedding coat?
That was a little confusing to my old mind.
Btw, I agree about the corner trowels. They give me a problem.
I’ve done both sides of the angles in one day but you pretty much always have some gouges right in the inside part to fix so it’s far from perfect. I’m not sure on the angle I would have to watch myself because I just do it from muscle memory
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY I understand the muscle memory comment.
These two corners worked down pretty good.
If I need to, I might just use a very little bit of caulk where the walls intersect.
Actually, I think I might get by without having to do that using a sanding sponge and a little bit of chipping the high spots.
I Truly appreciate your videos...GBYAY!
I appreciate it
Don't know why? But my inside corners or angles. Always look better than anything I do in finishing! Especially taping them! But good video for sure!
I see you use the plus 3, I also use that for finishing, what do you use to add the brown tint to the compound? We use to have a Lafarge product sold at Lowe's that was tinted like that.I liked it but was made with a coarser aggregate, similar to the dust control product available. Great videos you make!
I was taught to run angles with an angled 3.
Great info! Thank you!
Thank you for your support Thomas
Amazing job!
Do you tape angle, then coat one side at the same time?
All taping should really dry first before you coat it. And even the manufacturer say that
im with ya buddy...i cant use that corner trowel for nothing lol
So inside angles you don't need to float out up to a 12 in knife? Just butt joints and your factory beveled joints?
Yes.
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY man I've messed up already. Started with a four to embed then a six and an 8" on my angles. Maybe that's why I can't get a nice crisp 90° corner. This helps and gonna save me time. Thanks
An 8” is ok if you didn’t put it on too thick.
I've covered inside angles with 8"s before, but most of the time these days I just bed in with a 5" and skim out with a 6"
It's a corner.
As in muller fruit corner.
Although that corner is more of an angle, the yoghurt I mean.
If you're mudding an inside corner and you have door casing 2-3 inches away from the inside corner where you can't get your 4" knife in there do you just something like a puddy knife to smooth the mud out or is there a better way?
I carry a selection of cheap plastic putty knives that I can cut down on the size I need for those instances
Love how you actually answer questions!!
European here. From one Nato country to another: Thank you for your service.
Why am I having so much trouble keeping drywall compound from rolling over or fall down in the very inside edge against other wall while coating inside corners. I gonna end up coating inside twice just to fill the tiny voids I keep leaving on the very inside edge?
Maybe try going up instead of down. Not sure what’s happening
I have the same problem. The knife just digs into the opposite side and puts crusted compound in the mud. No matter how much you scrape the corner before hand
Good job!
Thanks 🙏
After doing the corner is that when you start with the joint compound all over?
If you mean skim coating, that is way overused and I don’t do it except when needed.
check out this video- ruclips.net/video/xK-Vx_ptgHg/видео.html
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
I definitely had to skim coat it because I want as close as a level 5 as possible. I am trying to remove orange peel in the process.
What I was referring to in my question is, how do you get clean corners/edges? Just with joint tape and mud and then let that dry and go in with compound after?
I have learned all this terminology from you the last 2 days watching your videos :)
THANK YOU
@@NikkisSecrets123 yes. Tape, dry, coat, lightly sand as needed
Good, detailed explanation.
Thanks
I am not aware if you have done a video on level of finish it seems that even in the industry there is some confusion coild you clarify.
I explained it in one video and I think this is the one - ruclips.net/video/4T6x7wiP-aA/видео.html
Noooo im so sorry im so late i like this video though just dont think im here im here its just you know what im saying alot things and stuff i try to be on time next time ill try to be early this is so nice 😪 i copied its great very recommended
Why is your mud yellow
From the factory
How did you get yellow mud
Comes that way
I bought it can't use it worth a shit. Do one side at.a.time
Thanks so much commenting. I appreciate it
Let's not be stupid and use a flusher and also a 4-inch knife not a 6
there’s nothing stupid about using a 6 inch knife. I have hand coated the angles in entire houses with a 6 inch knife and I can do it just as good as anybody out there, so let’s not use the word stupid.
