Every month, the 3 sisters would have to switch places with each other in the sky, resulting in the phasing of the moon, lest some big destruction hits the land. At some point, something prevented them from switching places, and the destruction happened. The moon we see in the sky is one of the 3 moon sisters' corpse.
What if Teyvat is upside down and the real sky is in the Abyss while the fake sky is actually the bottom of the world, and everyone has been living in the "underworld" this whole time? Edit: The Chasm quest with Dainslef confirms this theory! The abyss city down there is upside down, along with the teleport points and that statue of the seven. The abyss knows that the stars below are the true sky. And so does Scneznya. They founded the Adventurer's Guild and created Kathrynes. Ad Astra Abbysosque. To the stars, to the abyss. i think that the irminsul trees are possibly parts of yggdrasil but if that’s the case, what would the other 7 realms be? we have teyvat, the abyss maybe possibly kanrieah as the third realm if that’s the case, the remaining 6 or 7 realms are a mystery or maybe each nation is a branch, the abyss is a realm, and so is celestia, filling all nine spots ultimately i don’t know, but it’s fun to theorize

I just think "the sky" is a metaphor for Celestia, the land of the gods. It's surely destroyed or dead or just didn't existed in the first place and was a lie to make humans hope for going there, thus doing what "something" wants them to do

It is actually a reversed world. And on a static that doesn't rotate. That's why there is a term Inteyvat which should be the "opposite"(?) of Teyvat. And yeah, the stars are in the abyss. Which is what Katheryne always says and you said here, "to the stars and the abyss".

There is actually, a theory that states that teyvat is upside down, which probably means that the abyss has the real sky what you can also see in the spiral abyss, because in spiral abyss, you have the more you get up in the floors example on the first floor, you barely have any sky but once you get to the 12th floor, you can see the stars and the moon which also some which probably means that instead of ascending are you descending into the abyss which could also be because khan Ria might be Heaven and two bad as hell that could also be the reason why they got of demon names, and they torture each other in this eternal loop, like nahida mentioned.
