The spool on the 70 is heavier than the spool on the American 150! However, once spooled with line the 70 is lighter than the 150 because of the amount of line difference. So they did not lighten the spool whatsoever. Actually because they thicken the sides. It added weight.

This new reel looks interesting because of the more adjustable DC braking design.I believe few anglers in the United States pay much attention or even take the time to choose any reel they buy for its design features.They buy reels from local vendors and the reel supply is simplified for that reason. Japanese anglers are more concerned with design and performance than the average American bass anglers are. If you ask an American bass angler about any reel or rod in their boat, why they bought their tackle, most really, have no idea except for the price or that a friend bought one and liked it.They can’t tell you much more than that. They don’t know much because they seldom read the directions and specifications that came with the reel. Buying all the models is not cost effective for American venders; because it is much easier to sell a few basic models, I am sure if they wanted to buy more models, Shimano would be happy to provide them to the United States market. There is only a small portion of Bass anglers willing to pay close to a $1,000 dollars for one rod and reel.

That's why you see lots of people with Malibus.. the wheels roll you all the way yo.whete you wanna go, they park, they back up they do everything a Lamborghini does with out the cost. It's not that peiple.dont value them.. they do, they just don't feel what they get is worth the extra cost. I'd be willing to take any shimano reel nut up on a fishing tournament. They can pick their supreme reel of choice and ill use my Ardents and Abus and see if they can consistently outcast and out fish me or even anyone else.. people dont buy metaniums cuz the cost versus advantage isnt practical, not because they dont care about quality.
They've always provided a slightly better product to Japan, as it's their home market and Japanese not only expect better, but are up to paying for it too hence why the zodias line up of rods is looked at as cheap and they worry about the performance of a rod in that price range similar to our(US) ~$100 rod category. Also if that was the case, then Shimano wouldn't have made it a big deal to ship products across markets(happened around the time the SLX came out due to the AUS XT model and higher end), but now some shops won't export products in order to not lose their ability to sell Shimano products.
I know this is kind of a tongue in cheek comment but I’m almost positive it’s true. It’s not enormous but there’s definitely a niche market of Americans, myself included, who buy JDM shimano. There’s no way they aren’t aware of that on some level or another.

My slx doesn’t have a hole in the spool either ... and have added ceramic bearings, which helped. And nobody casts like that or usually uses a rod that long . Good reel but over hyped
I don't see why the engineering team would design a totally different model for the US or Japanese market. It's probably just aesthetics. Most of this "JDM is better" is in everyone's head and I doubt you could tell the difference blindfolded. They would not give the USA which is a bigger market worse products.

That lure was probably 1 oz and I dont think anyone has attempted to max out the US version for distance with a lure that heavy

Chance the spool from the US SLX DC and put the JDM Spool in, works with the 2016 Metanium e's well with the 70 size spool.
It could be possible but Shimano likes to engineer stop gaps between similiar models alot of times.
