  • There's very few time when I don't like to use a spinning rod. Immediately after the spawn is one of them. Typically Bass like bigger baits this time of year.

B Lat keepin it real as always. Im a weekend warrior with my 14ft balunium boat. I mainly fish the upper Potomac where its not tidal and lots of rapids. Ive been catching 30 to 50 smallmouths daily. Mostly 12 to 14 inch with the occasional 3lbr. I owe it all to you and Zman B Lat. 3" swimbait and the infamous ned rig have boosted my confidence like no other artificial. And all day long. It really doesnt matter what color i choose as long as its Yoga pants. In years to come there will be no better name of a color of a lure. You deserve an award for that colors name. Ive released 200 plus fish recently and almost everyone of them just before i turn um loose i say thank you B Lat and watch um swim away. Lots of thanks to you sir. Your down to earth and eager to share your knowledge which you explain in a easy to understand way. In spirit youve been on some good smallmouth catches with me. With plenty more to come. So if you get some sort of vibe thats just me turning another fish loose. Thank you again sir. Only advice i can offer to you is to keep on doin what your doin.

Probably a stupid question but I'm new to fishing and love my spinning reels and can't get the hang of the baitcaster, so why can't you run a spinning reel with 30-50 lb test braid on a stiffer/longer rod than you would use for finesse?

It is 100% worth it to put in the practice to get good at them. Just stand in your yard and throw one with a 1/2 oz weight tied on the end until you get it right. My boat has 6 rod holders and when I launch alone I have 5 bait casters and 1 spinning rod and the spinning is just for vodoo shrimp under a cork.
