I'm so excited that RUclips recommended this video to me. Italy is the only country that I've been to that I love just as much, maybe more than my country New Zealand. I find it really interesting seeing other countries supermarkets cost and product range. I've never tasted better bread and pizza than I had in Italy. I spent my first three days in Rome with some locals I'd met where I ate dinner. They were in Rome to work and study. One night I was eating alone so I was looking at my tourist map and the pizzeria owner came and sat with me and showed me some places to go. Venice is my favourite city and it was nice to get to know some of the locals who were all friendly. I loved my time in Italy.

Me again I've just started to watch your Italian Playlist and you said that you have been to New Zealand where I live. It's really awesome that you came all this way to visit here and Australia. I always love meeting people from other countries and to show them New Zealand hospitality. Xx

Italy, especially Rome, is awesome. And New Zealand is another fantastic place. The Lord of the Rings took me there and the beauty of the mountains I found there was only rivaled by the beauty of the _Dolomiti Mountains_ in Italy.

@Mark Landers I never thought of it like that before, but you are right. I remember when I was in school my teacher told me that we can recognise Italy as it's shaped like a boot and is kicking Sicily into the ocean for some sort of bad behaviour. She was Italian and her family came from Sicily so she was joking about that part but my nine year old self believed her for many years. Xx

Italy has simply incredible food at startlingly low prices. Either in restaurants or in groceries. But especially in markets either daily or weekly. Florence for example has the old covered market still functioning with 50 or 69 vendors selling bread, fruit, vegetables, cured meats and cheeses etc.
      Enjoy!

@@JodyOwen-we6oo I visit Switzerland often so good meat and fish are very expensive. Chicken is priced similar to US. Milk and Cheese are cheaper. Veggies and Fruits are mostly comparable. We go over to Frence for Sunday Market where the prices are much cheaper. Overall quality and flavor of meat or veggies beats the US by far. I've ben to Italy but only as tourist. Love to visit Florence someday. Cheers,

It is a layer of fat which encases the liver, and the Italians love it wrapped around the liver and then they fry it. Makes it a little bit fattier, moister, and they think more flavourful! My husband loves it done this way. Ciao from Calabria!

Remember that "tourists" cities (Florence, Rome, Milan, Venice, etc.) for this very reason, are almost always extremely expensive, often with an increase in prices of more than 30-40%, compared to less frequented (but equally spectacular) cities and town, often even more, but only less known, especially when shopping in supermarkets, whereas there is a drastic decrease in prices by purchasing in discount chains (Lidl, Aldi, Eurospin, Penny Market, etc.) or as many Italians do, you can do your shopping with drastically lower prices, in small local markets in little towns or in large open-air markets in bigger cities, that often also sell food both from normal dealers or directly from farmers * and livestock breeders, fishermen and cheese producers, or even other non-food products (Clothing, household products, detergents, perfumes and personal hygiene.
    * Please remember that in Italy there are a lot of laws about the quality and authenticity of the food as origin, production methods , consumption periods and also on cosmetics and non-food products, for this reason there is a special Carabinieri detachment, to ensure the safety of citizens and compliance with all the regulations in force, with very severe penalties for those who don't respect them.

Coop, Conad, Pam Panorama, Esselunga, Carrefour are the most common chains of big grocery stores in Italy; there are also several discount chains: Eurospin, Todis, Aldi, Lidl, MD, Penny Market. For organic food there is less choice, ususally there is NaturaSì or CuoreBio, but usually the normal grocery stores that have their own products have also an organic line of products, or special lines (gluten-free, lactose-free, sugar-free and such): that's the case surely for Conad, Coop and Pam Panorama.

Florence is considered to be average price but in the north everything costs more. I live in Milan and I would pay almost double what they paid in Florence and the average salary is 1500 net.
In Europe food is expensive also in France and Switzerland or Scandinavian countries. The only exception is Germany ( where i lived ) where prices are lower than Italy and much much lower than Milan

That’s great about the chips, but $4 for Ruccula?! That’s crazy 😳 And oh yes, price difference in wine is just insane - you can get some of the best Tuscan wine for only a couple bucks, it’s amazing & dangerous! 😂

Thank you for uploading this kind of video. I’ve followed you and Mateo from your other YT channel for a few months now. My family and I are going to Rome and Florence in July so it’s good to get some idea on what they offer at the grocery store. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy pasta and pizza but I’ll probably will be looking for other options by day 4💕😅. Thank you again.

I haven't been to Italy in over 25 years. Rome to be exact. During my brief time there, the food markets I visited were very small - more like farmers markets than this place, which seems more akin to a Whole Foods. I am pleasantly surprised. Being vegan now, ( i like that you're using oat milk - that is my fav vegan milk as well) I had thought that it would be more difficult to go food shopping or going out to eat, but I've been researching a lot and have found Italy to be FAR more vegan friendly than I suspected, esp in the south where butter is almost exclusively swapped out for olive oil, a better (and kinder) alternative. Since relocating from NYC to Florida, finding vegan restaurants down here is very difficult anyway, and honestly Italy seems more vegan friendly than Florida. You'd think that in a tourist bubble they would get with the times, but it's still just the same typical boring chain restaurants that keep Americans fat. At least some supermarkets like Sprouts have good vegan options. There are some vegan cheeses that I use here in the states which are actually manufactured in Italy, so that is encouraging too. And I found a website that lets you order vegan meat-alternative brands like Gardein from Italy too, for even less than they are in the states now because of this terrible inflation, which has literally tripled and in many cases quadrupled the cost of groceries. A typical bag of potato chips , like a bag of Lay's, costs upwards of $5 right now, which is crazy, especially since every bag is 80% air. I can't quite swing it right now, but I believe that eventually relocating to Italy is a new goal. The US is on a downward slope and not to get all political, but if things don't change in the 2024 election, I don't see how the US will recover any time soon from the damage that has and still is being done.

Appena iscritto e un grande like!

@@alessandrom7181 I’m originally from Milan and now I live in Berlin. Milan is the most expensive city in Italy, from grocery to restaurants to housing while the average salary is still pretty low ( €1500 - 1700 net ). I came back in Milan some months ago and was pretty shocked. In Berlin I would pay at least 30% less than what I pay in Milan. Of course also depending on the supermarket. I buy my grocery at Esselunga. I usually eat vegetarian and wanted to grab the little soy sauce bottle and in Milan was €7,42, while in Berlin ( at the most expensive supermarket if a sold for 2,99 and o. Other Italian cities for around 3,50 ). Today I bought 1 kg strawberries and ended up paying €14. In the last ISTAT report Milan is the most expensive city in Italy, for example in Naples grocery costs 50% less than in Milan
