I love that everyone is not allowed to touch the produce in Italy! And in the smaller town markets, there is usually someone behind the counter with gloves handing out the produce. As for the eggs, they are fine unrefrigerated. We never refrigerated eggs in the US either until about the late 70's or early 80's. And THAT was weird at first.

The eggs are OK. We don't need refrigerated them because in Italy they don't wash eggs before

I like that you shared your grocery experience on the economy and what they offer compared to the commissary. When we were stationed overseas in England and Germany we would do the same thing.

    A farmer told me.
When you don’t wash eggs or refrigerate them when they are laid it can stay good up for months.
The moment you wash them you have ti out the em in the fridge..

Exactly!!!! the eggs are simply brushed on the outside, if you wash them, the shell being very porous, because it must transpire and bring oxygen inside for the eventual chick, any liquid can easily enter and contaminate both the egg white and the yolk...

Pretty similar in France (carts, bags for veggies, for the checkout sometimes you have to scan the ticket too). But for example when you scan items by yourself the ticket go out at the end. As I went to Italy a few time i wasn't so lost about it ahah.
So cool to see how in every country everything is different, except in Europe where it's practically the same in a lot of countries.
So excited to see your next video! can't wait for you to visit Europe and maybe come to south of France, hopefully I can see you soon.
Have an awesome day, bye :)

Wow girl.... You are in the land of NO OMG! You should be buying everything you can off base!
Eggs do NOT need to be refrigerated. You will find 4 kinds. Your typical farmed chickens that live in the cage all their life. The kind that live on a warehouse floor and the kind that you would call free-range. In any case no ogm.

and I believe you!...farmed chickens are the least natural thing there is, a summary from research carried out in Italy and other countries around the world..||Let's be clear, these are not conditions that are harmful to health , according to veterinarians. We are talking about unbalanced animals, grown quickly to excessively increase their chest muscles, who struggle to move, animals with muscle inflammation considered by some researchers to be a suspected pathological process. This rapid and exaggerated growth is reflected in the quality of the meat which presents white streaks of fat and fibrous tissue which modify the nutritional composition. Then there are burns on the legs and hocks (pododermatitis) caused by litter that is not managed properly.||
These are the chicks (chickens only after 230 40 days) produced by the multinational AVIAGEN, if you are a real and natural chicken free-range chickens, you recognize them by the dark yellow color of their meat! Always pay attention to what you eat!!!

i loooove getting fruit off base, yes it spoils faster BUT it tastes SO MUCH BETTER. and honestly, i don’t buy ice cream on base anymore either because i can get a giant thing of gelato at aldi for like €2 and again, it’s not a fancy flavor but it’s tastes much better to me! 😂

Really enjoyed watching this video Brittany. I was really surprised that meats, cream cheese and a few other things are actually cheaper off base than at the Aviano commissary! I’m assuming here (bad to do, I know) that the Aviano AB commissary and BX are operated by the AAFES. I would think that the US DOD, via AAFES, would help “subsidise” the cost of groceries for US military personnel stationed overseas, but maybe not. You showed the haul from the commissary that cost $57!!! That’s a lot of money, considering there wasn’t any meat in there. Also, Wal Mart needs to install those receipt scanners near the exit doors so they don’t need someone to visually inspect *every single receipt * as we leave the store. LOL. Hope you and your husband are enjoying your assignment at Aviano. Sorry for rambling.

Forgot to ask you a question about life on Aviano AB. Do the F16 (?) jets occasionally takeoff at, say, 2, 3 or 4 am in full afterburner when they are participating in some military exercise? And are the on-base quarters soundproofed to some extent for just that reason? Hope all is well.

Barilla has been an Italian brand for over 100 years, founded in Parma, it is one of the largest food multinationals in the world and is the largest producer of pasta and flour in the world. In America it owns many factories, which produce various shapes of pasta, adapted to the tastes and way of cooking pasta in America, they often use soft wheat instead of durum wheat since in your Sates you use to cook the pasta directly in the pan with the seasonings. As a good officer of the Italian Armed Forces (FF.AA) I often happen to meet your colleagues from the US Army, Navy etc etc, and from them I learned about your interpretation of Italian food, which was then personally verified in the USA, I can tell you that perhaps it is better than you as far as Italian is concerned food, contact our supermarkets, shops or open-air markets. I am sure about one thing, and I promise you, the quality will always be exceptional and of the highest quality! Kind regards

so interesting how cheddar cheese isn't common in Italy. also the scanning your receipt when you leave the store is so insane to me lol. There is no need to be rude. Cheddar cheese is mainly English and it is a proper cheese. I am Italian too. It is just not a custom to eat cheddar cheese in Italy - that is it, just like many French or Spanish cheeses. Chill out@@alessandrom7181

HEY YANKEE. THIS IS ALL WRONG. YOU CAN NOT COMPARE THE PRICES OF ITALIAN CIVILIAN SUPERMARKET WITH AN AMERICA MILITARY BASE. THE PRICES ON BASE ARE LOWER. COMPARE THE COMMISSARY PRICES WITH AMERICAN CIVILIAN SUPERMARKET AND SEE A WHOLE DIFFERENCE. TRY TO BE MORE HONEST. SEE YOU YANKEE.
