When I load the media into DaVinci and I double click clip number 13 to load into the previewer it says "Media offline" and when I play it all I can hear is audio and can not see the video. PLEASE HELP! I would really like to do this tutorial but I can't if one of the videos isn't working!
Great video! I’m using DaVinci Resolve 19 on my Windows laptop, but I’m running into an audio issue. For some reason, I can only hear the sound from the left speaker, and I’m not sure how to make it play in both speakers. I’ve checked my Windows audio settings, but the problem seems to be within Resolve itself. Do you have any tips on how to fix this? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!
I was a Capcut guy. In fact, I learned to use it with your tutorial. DaVinci Resolve seemed complicated, but watching your tutorials have really helped me understand it. Thanks, Kevin. Even if Capcut comes back, I'm going to stick with using DaVinci Resolve 19 (20, 21, 22...). Your tutorials are so clear and concise. Much appreciated.
Just coming over from CapCut. This editor is very powerful and it's more complex but the way this guy Kevin is breaking it down is genius. Very meticulous. So I will be watching this tutorial over and over to get the hang of it! But I love this guy Kevin 100% He's the best that I've seen doing a tutorial. Without a doubt. I would like to work with him on something. I'm a writer producer I work with major labels production companies. I play 4 different instruments so I'm on the other side of the entertainment business, but I've got pretty damn good editing video and creating contact. I believe Kevin is the best in helping people understand what to do and how to do let's hook up Kev!!
It's been years since I edited stuff, I used to use Pinnacle, I have been looking at a lot of different editing software, and the ai assisted systems as well. Descript looks wonderful for podcast, vlogs and content of that nature, but I am interested in doing stories heavy on video and less on dialog, movies etc. DaVinci I feel is going to work better for what I need. also, I think I would be able to do a lot more with the free version of DaVinci, if I ever makes this more than just a hobby I wouldn't mind paying for pro. everyone needs to start somewhere. I liked Kevin's teaching style, so subbed and will look at his other videos.
I have about 12 daVinci results tutorials that I've been through three of them are paid. They weren't cheap by the way but I do need to say that this one is better than any tutorial that I've ever went through
At long last, an instructional video presenter for Davinci which makes it easy to learn. I would buy you a beer and give you a friendly hug if I ran into you at the local pub. Seriously, you are a very good teacher! Thank you sincerely!
Intresting Fact about DaVinci Resolve: The term 'Film Bins' in editing software has roots in old-school film editing. Back in the day, editors would physically cut film strips with razors, then hang each clip by its sprocket holes on hooks attached to a rack over a large bin. This setup kept the long film strips organized and off the floor. These ‘bins’ became essential for organizing shots, and editors could roll them around the studio as needed. Editing desks were huge machines, where film pieces were cut and reassembled with special tape that had matching sprocket holes. Sound was managed separately on synchronized magnetic tape rolls. Multiple tracks were edited, but only two could be played back together until the final mix, which involved syncing several machines at once. Imagine the patience and skill it required-editing was a true art form
Thank you, I appreciate that you are speaking much slower than most of the tutorials on this product and know there is a lot more to cover. I will look forward to your next tutorial.
Kevin, you are my go-to tutor for anything tech and I really appreciate your tutorials which are easy to follow and pitched just right in terms of complexity. Thank you so much!
Nothing beats waking up on a Saturday morning, looking to find a rabbit hole for learning DaVinci, and finding a video that teaches in a manner where I feel like Neo from The Matrix being jacked in and learning kung fu for the first time. Excellent video! New sub!
I was going to give up on using Davinci Resolve then after watching this tutorial thought I’d give it another go using your sample files. Great tutorial and looking forward to learning more. Thanks Kevin👍
Editing on my phone is quick and easy, and I've gotten really good at it, but I really need to take my editing to the next level but I've always found Desktop editing softwares a bit daunting. I've decided to try again, so thank you for putting out this video.
This is an extremely thorough and well done tutorial. I watched it once before I downloaded Resolve and it definitely allowed me to get started with a lot more confidence than I would have had if I had not watched it first. I’m re-watching this for a second time just to try and remember some of the shortcuts now that I’ve gotten my feet wet. I can’t thank you enough for this. Well done!
Outstanding tutorial. The ability to download the files and follow along with you really helped. It's just a better learning option when doing versus just viewing. Thank you. For the record, you also helped me get started in OBS so thankful for that too.
I've watched a *LOT* of videos about using software, Kevin, and this is by FAR the best I've seen. Thank you for sharing! I'm glad I found your channel, and look forward to studying more of your content.
Thanks man! Your tutorials are always straight to the point. Please can you teach on how to turn the background of a video clip to be blurry? I look forward to your next tutorial on Davinci Resolve
I've been doing RUclips 2 years now and I've used a GoPro and a iPhone/ipad mostly the phone to edit with a app only because I had no experience starting out I tried this and a few others back then it was way too hard so ended up using apps... now in 2025 I wanna up my game so a new osmo 5 a new laptop and I'm going for it this video walked me thru my 1st edit period and I was successful yay so only fine tuning and learning more and more.... but huge thanks for the step by step it gave me a lot more confidence
AAAANNND sample files to learn from, WOW, Just WOW !!!!!!! I love the fact that I don't have to look at your face while learning this. Cant stand youtubers that have to show their tatoos or their equipment and back grounds. You are just amazing Kevin. I owe for this very much.
One of the best tutorials available 💯 I was working on a macro keypad/jogwheel SpeedEditor like thing on my weekend/hobby laptop but did not have any usable video material to test with. In my search for some simple videos to play with I found this tutorial. Even though I do use Resolve there is a lot to learn from this tutorial. Definitely worth saving to scrub through the different items while I am editing my next hobby project 😁
Dude! This is exactly what I needed, just enough info for me to start experimenting. I learn much better by doing, but when you start from zero its a slow start, this gave me the leap forward I needed. Thanks!
I think this is the best youtube tutorial i've ever seen for anything. Thank you. Its given me more confidence that i should be able to teach myself to make some semi-professional videos gor youtube. In particular that doing the basics in some fairly high end editing software doesnt appear to have to have an emormously steep learning curve.
Great video, as usual. I have been using Davinci Resolve for a year and a half now and have gotten so much better at it. Thanks for all the amazing videos that you make.
hey bro i am facing a problem, i am new to davinci resolve and installed it for the first time but when i try to apply any basic transition on my video the app stops and after some time automatically gets closed . i also tried to install the 19.1,19.0.1,19.0.3 version but the problem is still there . plz help
@pingpongball969 I would post that in the black magic forums and see what they say. The try the following 1. Try to use different footage and see if it still crashes 2. Try a different computer if you can. 3. Move the footage to a different location on your computer. Try these and hope it helps. Good luck
I have been using DaVinci Resolve for a while, very much a beginner. I found several great tips on this video to help me get a little better. Thanyou so much for explaining in simple terms. I will keep coming back to this video to help enhance my skills further
Great job Kevin. I have watched many of your instructional videos (on RUclips) and enjoy your methods of teaching. Very effective and easy t9 follow. 👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Only issue I had was File 13 kept showing as corrupt even though I downloaded the files more than once to see if it was a download error. Not a big deal didn't stop me from following along.
This issue took me HOURS to solve! I was following the step by step, until you get to the Generate Proxy Media, and it was not an option for me. Long story short, all the way on the bottom of the software there is a bar with: Media, Cut, Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight and Deliver. I was on Cut so it did not give me an option to generate proxy. You have to have the Media mode selected!!! In the beginning of the video, when Keven says to reset the UI Layout and all of that, he forgot to mention you have to be on Media mode to actually look the same and have the same functionalities he is showing!! So if Generate Proxy Media is missing, it is because you are not on Media mode!!
I needed the short cuts so I googled it Basic Navigation Zoom In/Out on Timeline: Ctrl + - or Ctrl + + Play/Pause: Spacebar Go to Start of Timeline: Home Go to End of Timeline: End Editing Cut/Split a Clip: Select the clip, then press Ctrl + B (or Command + B on Mac) Undo: Ctrl + Z (or Command + Z) Redo: Ctrl + Shift + Z Delete Clip: Select the clip, then press Delete Trimming & Adjustments Trim In/Out (Clip start/end): Ctrl + [ or Ctrl + ] Ripple Delete (Remove a clip and close gap): Select the clip, then Shift + Delete Quick Color Correction Open Color Page: Shift + 6

Great video. I wanted to ask you, did you make a video talking about your computer set up as far what computer you use, how much ram you have, Intel or Ryzen, graphics card etc.?
Thanks for the compliment! I haven’t made a specific video about my computer setup yet, mostly because I use a variety of laptops and desktops depending on the project. For the best performance, though, I recommend aiming for at least 32GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU-these specs really help when handling demanding tasks like video editing or running AI tools. If there's enough interest, I might consider making a video breaking it all down!
@KevinStratvert That would be great if you made the video even if it is a short one. I am in the process of wanting to build myself a desktop computer now that I have most of the money saved up and some advice would be great. I hope to start a RUclips channel in the next couple of months so I need to get cracking on learning Davinci resolve since the free version is more than sufficient. Keep up the great work your doing .
I've learned that DaVinci is quite difficult for beginners like me. It's better to start with some simpler software like CapCut. After that, one can easily adapt to this. Thanks for the tutorial.
Great introductory tutorial. Be interested to see how to create a video with scrolling text along the bottom that runs for the length of the video. Similar to rolling news channels. Content might include a web site and contact name, phone numbers etc
You can use the text+ effect with keyframes on the position to make scrolling text on the bottom. If you learn some of the Fusion page, you can even make it loop throughout a video.
Before we start, I have an amd card. And I'm not saying "use Nvidia cards" here, they have their own problems. But if Davinci crashes on you when you drag and drop footage into a timeline, it could be your amd driver. Adrenalin 24 simply doesn't work with davinci 19 as of today for me. I had to downgrade to 23.3 I think. Just in case someone is wondering as well as I had to try this to find out. Black magic really needs to fix their software, it's not the first time Davinci acts up for no reason at all.
Thanks for sharing! It’s frustrating when things don’t work smoothly-your tip about downgrading to 23.3 will definitely help others using AMD cards with Resolve 19. Hopefully, Blackmagic fixes this soon!
Hi Kevin! Great video. I have one question. When I brought over the the media files in your tutorial, specifically media 13 with your picture, it changed the whole file appearance to solid green. When I click on it - I can hear sound but your picture doesn't come up. Can you tell me what the green screen means and how to fix it? Thank you again for the best tutorial ever!! Linda
Kevin, you are a great instructer. I am aware of these basics as I've been using the free edition for a few months. I just took advantage of the sale price of $235 for the Studio version. Are youplanning any further videos on Studio? Thanks
Great tutorial! If I could give you 2 thumbs up I would. TY for making this as I just started down the path of creating college recruitment videos for my son and this is going to be a game changer!!!! TYTYTY
