In December 2022, France completed the delivery of 36 Rafale jets to the IAF, stemming from a Rs 59,000-crore agreement inked in September 2016. But why wasn't a unified deal for the IAF and Navy Rafales negotiated?
Beyond streamlined negotiations and a unified procurement process, it likely would have led to reduced costs in training, maintenance, and logistics, given the shared technology and expertise base between the two Rafale variants.

While indian air force and navy are quarelling over the use of fighters, the chinese had quietly deployed stealth fighters at tibet ready to pound indian targets at short notice

The navy has always got the raw deal, be that with the budget or preference or priority. And as for for our MMRCA or AMCA, i say a min of fifty years before we produce the first prototype.

The MRO facility For Rafale is created to create pool of techicians who would later moved to 114 Fafel manufacturing unit indigenously. Since we got full licence to produce Mig from Russia we are able create a decent envoirnment to produce spares but with 42 Mirage 2000 purchased in 1985 from Dassault we are not getting the sparez hence we are purchasing second hand Mirage from Greece snd Quatar so that the spares could be used. This is the reason we should develop our own 5,th 6th generation aircraft involving DRDO/IISC/IIT/ HAL at any cost .

Wish we had defence minister like late Manohar Parikar who brought airforce sit down and ask them question which made sure Tejas MK1 got approved.

Great discussion. Unfortunately, none of these questions are asked to the people in the IAF who get interviewed. Neither are any MoD officials ever asked this nor the Raksha Mantri. This is absolute common sense stuff and yet the level of foolishness to have 36 Rafales in the IAF, plus 26 being negotiated for the IN and then have a "contest" for MRFA is truly unbelievable. Why aren't these uncomfortable questions put forth to those who are taking these stupid decisions?

Quality sourcing is not possible without a healthy competition and also if you do not have alternative then it ll be a monopoly for the supplier in terms of price, quality and supply.its not that only Rafale is good, you should know the other fighter jet also…

Why am i getting a feeling that we will end up with South Korean KF-21 BORAMAE.
    I think so because :-
    1. Its a 4.5 gen jet with the design philosophy of a 5th gen jet
    2. Its about to complete its trials and enter production in a few years.
    80% trials are complete.
20 limited series production jets are on order by korean govt.
    3. It looks like a cousin to our AMCA
    4. It uses GE Engines that we are about to manufacture in india for our fighter jets .
    5. It will be cheaper than western jets like eurofighter, rafale , f-16 , gripen
    6. The possibility of getting ToT is very much there .
    7. The koreans will most possibly be happy to sell us kf-21 because their partner INDONESIA has not paid its portion of payments to koreans.

Also why 116 fighters in MRFA??... Already got 36 form mmrca.. so 60-80 rafale f5 + 26 rafale M, should be good for local production. Scrap MRFA lobby.

Indian-Govt & Military should cancel the RFI for MRFA & instead encourage (pressure) both IAF & IN to establish a JV to invest in:-
    (1) TEDBF (ORCA)
    (2) AMCA

I dont think it makes sense for indian airforce and navy to go joint in terms of aircraft procurement...because the single reason that they aren't potent enough themselves! They should first set their own house in order and then think of joint procurement of any sort!

Air Force should scrap MRFA program and go for 72 Rafales immediately. 72+36+24(navy) is total Rafale in country. Get manufacturing here in India and look for similar collaboration for M88 engine. Can't rely on GE for Tejas engines should have alternative. France is suitable partner.

Airforce I think is a very egoistic organisations, ego was the only reason why they fought hard with army on attack helis, why AF needs attack Helis? it is army's domain but Airforce forced MOD to get a considerable share of the Prachands. Same issue with integrated command thing, AFs had most issues with sharing it's assets.

Please no Russian equipment anymore for any number of reasons:
      - They are junk tech.
      - They are a warring country, they will run out of spares when we need them.
      - They are friends with China more than they are friends with us.
