The Absb I'm thinking ,is the same as an AIS system on marime vessels .It typically shows other vessels on radar with there speed over ground ,course over ground, heading ,name etc.The distance is shown from closest to fertherest away. This is very useful ,and I plan to get one of the orange cubes very soon.Thank you bud for this video. As usual great video.
I've been using the mt30 connectors for my wings and love them. I do wish they had a version that was only soft indexed. Like those flat versions if they were marked with a proper orientation but allowed reversal. So I could reverse motor direction without unsoldering.
Great video on these new connectors but I'm confused on the ones stated as ESC connectors. Why would you want a 1-way connector for an ESC? If you need to reverse the direction of the motor, especially for an aircraft without a flight controller, you want a 2-way connector. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance and I'll see you in the Air!
AAghhh I ordered the black CUBE late last night. Must ring them in the morning and change to the orange, really only £12 more !! no brainer :-) Great video Lee, some really cool stuff this time, 15" folding props deffo on the shopping list
Firstly, I'd like to mention that the connector prices at 3dxr are very good. They appear to be competitive with Banggood. I didn't check out shipping to USA, but it would probably come out OK in bulk. I hesitate though since we're kind of getting away from the idea of a "standard". I didn't buy XT30 or XT90 for years because of this. Now I have a drawer full of self made adapters and no space efficiency. Amass is really just making "interesting" connectors at this point. I can't see insulated bullet and servo connectors going away any time soon.
The reliability of the applications discussed aside, I get the impression the fixed wing electronics have kinda stayed still for the last few years compared to quad stuff. Realistically I expect motors to have 0.2mm laminations, n50+ magnets, hollow shafts, open bottoms, as big bearings as possible. Few of the fixed wing motors around tick many of those boxes and the ones that do are not cheap at all. Even then comparing the stator:weight ratio fixed wing motors come out very poorly. That 2820 is 140g, I could get a lot more stator for that weight. Seems to be a similar story with escs. Sure the big fat airplane escs need less cooling but in most hobby cases we are well under 60A and there are reasonably cheap blheli_32 escs rated for 80A and very cheap heatsinks that you can attach. Just as an example, that 2820+120A hobbywing is around 250g total. A light 4xxx x-class motor esc combo is going to come out to a similar AUW even of you add a bunch of heatsinks to the esc. (rated @ 4-5x the wattage too). Different application I am talking about but am I missing some voodoo that they put in the airplane stuff I should be aware of?
Lots of energy put into MR motors and ESCs driven by the hysteria of the quadcopter phenomenon over the past 4 years. That plus less issues with weight, not needing to hold the model in the air alone and flight times that can last 10 times that of a MR results in a different set of design fundimentals. I'm sure some of the lessons learned from the MR motors will make it into some of the FW motors and ESCs in time...
@@Painless360 ;) ha, of course not! Implications are interesting though, basically means a lot of the larger fixed wing setups could often have 50% more power or 50% less power system (and thus battery balancing) weight if they took advantage of quad tech. Especially with some of the new larger quad motors designed for 7-10" props.
Very cool video, thanks, and I am really looking forward to buy the cube ADS-B But I have to say I hate those XTxx connector, I much prefer EC3 or EC5.
Sorry to comment here, I have seen you do a "how to" on the jumper T16 for throttle hold set up on a SF. I can not find it anywhere, can not remember if it was a single vid or on a multi. Just got a T16 my 1st "open tx" radio and a bit overwelmed
Gary Murphy I know you found the video, but if you're logged in to RUclips it keeps a history of videos you've watched. It's an easy-ish way to find videos you watched recently.
Hi, Orange Cube is classed as Beta until Arducopter/plane 4.0 is Stable release. The Hardware remains the same. ArduPlane 4.0 beta is out, copter will follow. You can follow the development and features on the Ardupilot website. FYI the next releases of ArduPilot will all be named with 4.XX
I have also seen some reversible / bidirectional female MR30 connectors that allow you to easily swap motor direction without having to de-solder+solder and/or program an ESC. rcdude.com/hyperion-mr30-2mm-3-pole-motor-to-esc-connectors-female-reversible.html
Great to hear of others using them. I spend a lot of time messing with RC and I hadn't seen some of them. If I was unaware, then I'm pretty sure significant sections of subscribers probably haven't either. Hence the video:) Happy flying!
I think I saw the mt30/60 and mr60 at least 1½ years ago on hobbyking already. so they're not really new, just really unpopular. never saw the other ones before cheers
The MR series first appeared in a 2015 Amass catalog, i have been trying to purchase them ever since ant told they have only recently have gone in to full production. i have had small quantities previously. There is also some other cool connectors that have yet to make it over here.
Lucky enough to live close to 3dxr. Great dealer and I’ve picked up a couple of orders direct from the workshop. Highly recommended.
i wish i live near a store like this
It’s always a treat when you visit that awesome shop!
Wow I really like the idea of motor and speed control already ready already! Well done fellas, keep it up!

Did not know about those connectors. I can totally see myself using these for connecting the ESCs.

Pretty impressive stuff there, Lee! 😮
I've already seen some of those connectors, but those motors... Damn, they're beautiful! 😃

Nice products. I´ve flown Pix..... for years and all I miss this days is a bulit in OSD. I really want the Cube, but with a OSD to plug in.
Check out my Arduplane on Matek F405 series. A different option if you want FPV..
Fantastic info and a great video 👍😁👍
Saw this and thought - great I really need a bulkhead mount XT90 but seems they only do a XT60 version.

Make sure you are following my Instagram. I posted about this last week..
@@Painless360 Yep, I saw that, even commented, just expected it to be outside my current budget. Need to find more time to do better research :-(
Or just pop me a message.. :)

@@Painless360 Gotcha, airplane stuff is rubbish, quad stuff rules. This is what I suspected. I knew that quadcopter hypetrain was going somewhere.
I wouldn't say rubbish. Just designed for a different use case ;)

Make sure to check motor direction before connecting the MTxx or MRxx.
Other than that, I really liked being able to put mine on.

See my Opentx mix school for how it will works and my T16 videos for the radio specifics. Best of luck!
Still cant find that vid I watched 2 days ago? I must be losing the plot!
Found the vid, it was done on the Taranis plus NOT a T16, presume it will be the same way?Going to try now.

how do connect the Pixhawk to a gasoline engine VTOL? to buld an UAV
@painless360 Feel free to ping me if you have ArduPilot questions, especially with plane stuff.
I'd welcome a closer relationship with you guys. I emailed Andrew but didn't hear anything. What's your email? Mine is lee@painless360.com
hi - any word on when cube orange is out of the beta phase and available in general release?
thanks!
The guys at 3DXR would be the best to aks that one..

I was very close to buying some mt30s before seeing this video and mr30s look way better for my plan so perfect timing!
excellent dev on these connectors i have to say, smart stuff. any suggestions on finding a lot of new spare time to play with it all ? ;-D
It's all about priorities:D

Yeah jobs family who needs it lol
So, those new "colourful" Cube will compatible with the old plain black Cube, right?
Flash the same. Carrier boards are stanard across them too. See the website. Happy flying!
I am from India ...can i consult you guys on what i need and could you ship it over ???
More pins more problems.. Best direct solder to the ESC and Motor
Depends if you want more modularity, these products won't be primarily aimed at amateurs.
