You’re so much more help to me than even my own friends on colorguard have been. They don’t show things very clearly and they don’t count and they tr to rush me into things and you slowed it down so once I improve, I’m good at explaining things so I can help others figure it out too. I’m going to try out for colorguard this year after being in band and I have a feeling I’m gonna love it if I make it 😁
I find it funny how different guards call the same tosses and spins different things. What you call a money hand toss we call a crank toss and what you call a J toss we call a silk toss. And on your rifle and saber videos what you call spins we call consecutives. Also, in my guard we don’t dip for singles and doubles and you do. I really like your videos, especially your rifle basics one, it helped me out a lot! I’m about ready to audition for Winter Guard, do you have any tips?
iiMooseii this difference in language something that can be problematic for members who refuse to learn the different names of moves when they go off to college or join an independent team. I'm so glad you are recognizing this now and being open minded about it! This means you will be really successful later!
I really wanted to join color guard. I tried out and they said they were lots forward to me joining. When I got home with all the information my mom said I couldn't join. It was too much money and we arent that well off. She said hopefully next year will be better and I will get to join so I'm watching videos to be ready
One year later and I have been apart of guard for half the school year! I loved Marching Season, and Winter Guard season is the best! I'm glad I was able to join! When I tried out, I was put on the definite list too!! I'm happy to be part of something like this, and I'm grateful for the instructors as well as the other guard members that have helped me along the way. I'm also grateful to my aunt, uncle, sister and mom who have made it possible for me to join.
Thank you so much for this video. It was hard for me to find one that included everything, and when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! I am a color guard captain for my highschool and we have a lot of new rookies, and things are kinda hard for them. So I sent them all this video and when they come back, my God they should improve so much. Thank you for this video.
I am going onto my second year and guard and I’m already on rifle (which is very unheard of) and I have a possibility of getting onto saber this coming outdoor season Strive to do your best and you will get there My guard instructor told me a quote that I really like “Stay hungry, stay foolish”
Thank you so much for this video. I am an uprising 9th grader and I have colorguard clinic and tryouts starting tomorrow. I have had some experience with college flagtwirlers but that was a long time ago so this video was very helpful so thank you so much! You are amazing and very talented!
Thank you for all your amazing color guard videos! I was part of marching band for 5 years, but I always wanted to be in color guard. I auditioned one year but sadly didn't make it and I kinda let that discourage me from doing it ever again. Well I'm now 25 and I decided I just want to do this for myself for fun so your videos have been very very helpful!! Thank you so much for making these even though I'm pretty late to the party lol.
i just started color guard like, two days ago and since my school's guard needs its practice time and I'm not technically part of it, I only get twenty minutes from lunch, twice a week, so this is really helpful. thanks!
I've been in winterguard for two years in middle school and I'm in colorguard now and next tuesday is winterguard tryouts for the highschool wish me luck😁
I use to be in colorguard and there starting one at my trade school so I'm trying to remember as much as possible so that I can teach it to others and this video really helped thanks
Thank you so much for this! I've been cautious about joining Color Guard because my vision is very limited, making me reluctant to do much of anything like this. Watching competitions as my cousins were in Marching Band sparked my interest, and I've finally given in and plan to sign up this coming May to join as I go into my third year of Highschool. Even with friends in Color Guard as I have now, I'll be looking to this for help as we can't all meet up to practice outside of practice itself. Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
Thank you so much for this!! My school unfortunately does not have a coach for our color guard, so we're stuck learning all of this by ourselves. This definitely helped! :)
OMG thanx for this vid!! This vid has helped so much that I got ahead of my friends in auxiliary camp😁☺!! You are amazing and talented!!! I wish u the best of luck!!😘😍💝😂
Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful!! I was in marching band for 2 years and switched to colorguard this year, so I'm trying to learn some basics before the season starts. I also watched your video with Amanda and it was awesome!! So far I've been able to do the basic tosses, but can't make them go very high. Do you have any tips on making them higher? Thanks! ☺️
We also all toss our tosses way different we start our "money toss" which we call plates, at the tab and the other hand half way in the silk. And also the toss you cal pull hits we call push pulls. The one i find funny are the flag doubles we call them Pringles.
This video was very helpful for new people to guard. I have been doing it for a few seasons now and I was wondering what program you went through, because some of your techniques are very different than what I learned. It is a bad thing though, everyone teaches differently.
the beginning was good but then you completely lost me at the tosses.. i get scared of the flag hitting me and don' t do the full counts, i'm only just a beginner but i'll try harder! i know this is 4 years ago but it's helpinggg thank you c:
From top to bottom, the way I was taught, is Top Stopper (Top tip), Silk, Casing (Tab), 2/3rds tape, 1/3rd tape, Bottom Stopper. They need a translator for these terms.
Dom F this is one of the reasons we started such a large collection of free videos of flag moves. There are SO MANY different names for moves, and we all need to be able to understand each other.
wow i didn't know you could do so many 45s some were very different from what i have learned. The way i was taught to do a one handed 45 requires your hand being closer to the end of the pole, which makes it harder for it to do rotations i think. I can only do one rotation with the one handed 45 because I'm afraid it is going to hit me lol.
+Blake Labiche Lol I was too. Even with a normal 45 I was so scared it was going to hit my head! I just had to tell myself that if I did it right it wouldn't hit me. The funny part is, it did ^-^ but that's ok. It made me better lol.
Any tips for trying out for winter guard without ever being in color guard? My friend wants me to try out and I agreed but I've never done anything color guard related
This is going to be my first year doing color guard EVER this summer, and I've come to your video for help! when I toss my flag, I can never catch it. Any tips???
+Maggie Vesey and don't be afraid to stick your hand in! Just grab something. Even if it's wrong! Get over the fear of a spinning object coming towards you and wrap your hand around the pole.
I was actually able to catch it for the first time yesterday, and I've been doing really well with catching it since! Your video taught me a lot, especially that I was trying to spin it with my hands too close together. Thank you!!!
I have a problem why my silk rolling up when i do drop spins. Do you know how i can fix that? My captain says im rotating my wrists but when i do it like he says my silk still rolls up.
Aydan I had the same problem but what I do is when I spin the flag I place my hand at tab and use my thumb and index finger to pinch silk that way it stays open. I hope that makes sense?
Can you give measurements to tape the flag? Like how far the bottom tip the tapes are? That would help tremendously :) (If it'll help the pole I'm getting is 5'6)
+Harmony Jayy since the whole pole is 6' and the silk takes up 3' feet that leaves 3' for the pole divided by two tapes every 1' from the tab to the tip.
Demyx Tracer thank you!! i was doing a helicopter toss and i know you said it wouldn't hit you in the head, but it hit me, broke my glasses and my nose. oh the things i do for bandfront lol
Hello my name is Blanca, I am from Mexico, I like your channel and I would like to ask you about the measures of a flag, please could you provide them to me? A greeting :)
+Blanca Cecilia hi Blanca! A pole is typically 6 feet and the silk is usually somewhere around four feet... and if it would make you feel more comfortable to ask me in Spanish you can! I'm fluent in both :)
+Emily alcorn I understand why. As I said, a J toss and a moneyhand toss are the same toss essentially, the only difference being the moneyhand toss uses both hands whereas the J toss uses one hand. Really and truly, as long as you know exactly what the toss is, it doesn't matter what you call it, you know? Thanks for watching my video and subscribing to my channel! You're awesome!
this dude is not only great at flag techniques. He also knows the best ways to explain them to flag novices. Keep up the good work man!
In my opinion I would like it without background music to focus but other than that it is very helpful
Me too
Yes, the music makes it hard to hear the instructions (which are great by the way)
I have another remake of the video without background music
Nicholas Carter where is that remake without the music? I’d love to see it and send to my guard members....
Check my channel. It should be there!
I tried out for colorguard & I made it & this is my first year since I’m a freshman & I can’t wait to do it next year
You’re so much more help to me than even my own friends on colorguard have been. They don’t show things very clearly and they don’t count and they tr to rush me into things and you slowed it down so once I improve, I’m good at explaining things so I can help others figure it out too. Also, I love the way you explained this. This is the only video I actually understood.

24:36- Cross Toss

Congrats!! ❤️
Juju onnthatbeet hey🙂 its been two years, have u been able to join?
@@gennycar yes I was😁 I'm trying out for captain this year! This'll be my third and last year as a member of the team, so I really hope I get it

I made winter guard and I’m a band student you can do it
I am going onto my second year and guard and I’m already on rifle (which is very unheard of) and I have a possibility of getting onto saber this coming outdoor season
Strive to do your best and you will get there
My guard instructor told me a quote that I really like “Stay hungry, stay foolish”
I’m trying out for winter guard with no experience this is very helpful for me learning it and how fast you go with counting
How did it go? I'm doing the same!
Same here✋️
I’m trying out for color guard next year and I will be definitely watching your videos everyday for help thank you so much
Thank you so much for this video. I am an uprising 9th grader and I have colorguard clinic and tryouts starting tomorrow. I have had some experience with college flagtwirlers but that was a long time ago so this video was very helpful so thank you so much! You are amazing and very talented!
Aww why are you so sweet?! ☺️
SIX years ago, wow
Thank you for all your amazing color guard videos! I was part of marching band for 5 years, but I always wanted to be in color guard. My school doesn't offer winter guard, but Im definitely going to include these for parades :)
I'm so happy you make these videos they make guard for me so much easier
I've been in winterguard for two years in middle school and I'm in colorguard now and next tuesday is winterguard tryouts for the highschool wish me luck😁
that flag looks amazing, i want it!
I’m trying out for color guard next week and I’ve been using your videos plus others to prepare myself over the past month :) Very helpful!!
Hey! How did it go?
Thanks so much for this. My guard coach moved so I have to do a routine from scratch with no guard knowledge. This will definitely be helpful
I use to be in colorguard and there starting one at my trade school so I'm trying to remember as much as possible so that I can teach it to others and this video really helped thanks
Please make more videos like these for flag and rifle! They are so helpful! 😊
where did u find that silk? it would go good with our show! I like it!
I designed it lol
It's really nice
+Alex Lindsey Thanx!!! ^3^
Nicholas Carter how long did it take u to learn all of these tosses?
As fast as I needed. I don’t necessarily recall how long that was but I’d think one season
Thank you so much for this! I've been cautious about joining Color Guard because my vision is very limited, making me reluctant to do much of anything like this.

Thank you so much for making these videos. I made the color guard team because of these
I loved your video because you explain step by step and in Brazil less people use bandeiras
I have tryouts tomorrow and this video helped me with my spins and tosses thx
Thank you so much for this!! My school unfortunately does not have a coach for our color guard, so we're stuck learning all of this by ourselves. This definitely helped! :)
Best video that’s explains flutters!! 🙏🏽
Very clear explanations. Good job!
OMG thanx for this vid!! This vid has helped so much that I got ahead of my friends in auxiliary camp😁☺!! You are amazing and talented!!! I wish u the best of luck!!😘😍💝😂
the drop spin was easy but then the second move came along and I had no idea what I was doing 😂
this is a very helpful video it has helped me to learn a lot i really appreciate it

did you do a detailed rifle video as well? it would be very helpful!! much love
Thank you. What type/size of weights would you recommend poles be weighted with?
thank you very much to make this video, video help fully. what size your flag pole ?
i’m trying out for winter gaurd.. what should i expect?
Adriana Sanchez we make vlogs of our winter guard, so I know not every team is the same but if you watch those it might help you know what to expect!
Any tips for trying out for winter guard without ever being in color guard? My friend wants me to try out and I agreed but I've never done anything color guard related
hey I'm Jamie Gifford. I'm wondering about the bolts. do you put the heavier bolt on top or at the bottom of the Pole
Heavier bolt goes on the side with the silk
Thank you!!!
The music is SO loud and distracting
This is going to be my first year doing color guard EVER this summer, and I've come to your video for help! when I toss my flag, I can never catch it. Any tips???
+Maggie Vesey watch the tab
+Maggie Vesey and don't be afraid to stick your hand in! Just grab something. Even if it's wrong! Get over the fear of a spinning object coming towards you and wrap your hand around the pole.

+Maggie Vesey I'm glad it's helping and I know you'll only continue to grow! Good luck!!!
What program did you use to design it?
I went to bandtoday.com. I sent them the design I wanted printed and the fixed it to the flag :)
Thank you so much, sir
When you do performances do you jazz walk and jazz run?
+Court-Lynn France yes
what are the lingths of the bolts you use for your flag pole?
Not exactly sure. Just make sure the silk tip is heavier than the pole tip and it should spin just fine either way.
The crucial thing you need to remember is to align your thumbs at tab every time you grab at even and odd counts. Hope that helps :)
Spin your flag backwards is between grabs (basically just spin the pole the opposite direction its rolling) usually works.
what pole are you using
It's just a six foot aluminum pole I think.
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO MORE IN DEPTH ON THE POP TOSS I KEEP CATCHING IT UPRIGHT I EITHER DO MORE THAN 2 TURNS OR 1 AND A HALF TURNS
Is your flag weighted?
please teach how to do a front horizontal, I struggle with it so hard!
+JDM Productions I'll try my best
Can you give measurements to tape the flag? Like how far the bottom tip the tapes are? That would help tremendously :) (If it'll help the pole I'm getting is 5'6)
+Harmony Jayy since the whole pole is 6' and the silk takes up 3' feet that leaves 3' for the pole divided by two tapes every 1' from the tab to the tip.
Demyx Tracer Thank you! :)
i'm so worried that i won't get into color guard and i've been practicing for so long and i still suck
+eshee the human you've got it!!!
Demyx Tracer thank you!! i was doing a helicopter toss and i know you said it wouldn't hit you in the head, but it hit me, broke my glasses and my nose. oh the things i do for bandfront lol
(Not to sound creepy) what state do you live in? I love the trees there and the temp looks cool
Georgia
I call my 45 tosses, unicorn tosses cause it reminds me to make it look more like a 45 than a parallel.
How tall is you pole?
45
What material is the tube?
+Blanca Cecilia the pole is aluminum
Hello my name is Blanca, I am from Mexico, I like your channel and I would like to ask you about the measures of a flag, please could you provide them to me? A greeting :)
+Blanca Cecilia hi Blanca! A pole is typically 6 feet and the silk is usually somewhere around four feet... and if it would make you feel more comfortable to ask me in Spanish you can! I'm fluent in both :)
How tall should the pole be?
Hannah Gruner I know our guard uses 6 foot flags, I'm under the impression that 6 is the standard, but I'm not sure. Hope I helped 😊
for my guard we don't call it a moneyhand toss we call it a J toss because it looks like a J i guess lol
+Nicholas Carter lol yeah and you're welcome and either way its still a really fun toss and also my favorite
+Nicholas Carter Im excited to try the one handed 45s with more rotation tomorrow, Im nervous though because those one handed 45s are pretty dodgy lol
+Blake Labiche You can do it!!!
+Nicholas Carter hey do you have like an Instagram or kik so when I try it I can show you how I'm doing?
Oh gosh wind
We call the top tape and bottom tape cheaters
You need to turn the fucking music off
What do y’all call dahlias and dysfunctionals? 😂
