I can attest this is a great gun and highly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one. Bought one about 3 years ago when I saw one available at my LGS. Was completely shocked as many Colts were not compliant in MA for many years, especially Series 70 guns like this. Immediately told the seller I wanted it the moment I saw it. Mine is blued as well, but it's one of the newer ones that come with a nice, polished finish unlike the specimen in the video. Was completely reliable with all the ammo I fed it and definitely more accurate than I can shoot. Not often I use the term "Worth every penny", but this was one of those occasions.

@DV8 *** Yep. Not only are they hideous, these VZ grips will scratch the hell out of your frame if the screws come loose during shooting and wiggles around. I switched to a traditional set of wood grips with the Colt medallions.

Bought the Series 70 Government in 73..Thing was terrible...You had to put your foot against a tree to pull the trigger to fire it..And empties came out peened square on one side...Sent it to Wilson Combat...The went all thru it . Trigger..BoMar, Commander hammer.. etc,,,Best move I ever made with a gun..

I’ve put 250 rounds through my new ccw Tisas B45r 5 inch in 45 auto. You can buy grip tape cut for the front strap for $5 on Amazon. It makes a great deal of difference in the overall feel. Tripp Research Cobra mags are the only mags I will buy because the mag release cut on the mag is lower than other mags so the rounds are higher up on the feed ramp which is why the jhp work every time. The rounds are angled higher as well.

I learned to shoot the 1911A1 once the Marine Corps owned me in 78. I had shot a 1911 growing up, but once the professionals got me, it was night and day improvement. Once that gun imprints on your body and brain and the training is something you do not have to think about and the muscle memory is there, it is a hoot to shoot. People who complain about the recoil, they need to work out. Sure, I have a lot of modern pistols. However, nothing feels the same in my hand. Browning got it right.

Best of all the gold cups were not overly tight in slide to frame fit. Can't believe he kept going on about it being a series 70! Also on a match barrel you should never turn the the barrel bushing while it's in battery. The reason being if it's truly a fitted match barrel and you turn the bushing while it's in battery you could scratch the barrel. Take out the slide lock pin and remove the slide and barrel assembly, remove the barrel and then turn and remove the bushing for cleaning / lube.

Grip+trigger safety instead of thumb, full titanium alloy and double stack mags and night novak's..
Buttstock and grip readiness would make it suitable for more scenarios.
5.7 caliber would be super awesome for everyday carry

Beautiful gun! Series 80 or not, with or without idiot scratches, with or without double guiderods... In place. 😉 Miss the famous Colt bluing though... I also hope that Colt survives and copes better in the future now that it has a new European owner with a more reality based business model.

Great review , I watched this video , curious, because I review air rifles and pistols here in the uk 🇬🇧, and I have reviewed the Weihrauch hw45 , in the states believe it’s called the Beeman p1 , and apparently that air pistol is based on the colt , cheers shaneweightman

Should have just kept the Gold Cup going, and maybe make a few improvements. I have a Gold Cup that I purchased in 1985. I love that gun and it shoots just fine.

If it's a series 70 why did Colt include a series 80 owners manual? You can see it at 16:57.

Dude! How did you know?!? I've been looking for one of these for quite a few months now lol. Darn "supply shortages" lol. Also just noticed the sad rookie scratch on the frame from the slide lock.

I took the plunge and bought two 1911 Comps in Stainless - one in 9mm, one in 45 ACP. I actually haven't shot the 45 ACP yet, but the 9mm is hand candy for sure.

I agree with not trusting the striker fired pistols. There is no way to make sure that the thing is cocked. As my hands weaken with age, I have more trouble racking a slide than I did formerly. The Colt 1911 and my other hammer fired autos show me when they are cocked. My beloved P-38s also have a chamber-loaded pin that you can check in the dark. This is my go-to-war gun now, but the 1911 is also on my list; I have been shooting them for over 50 years and I'm starting to get the hang of it. --Old Guy
