The Frat Hazing Death That Materialized A Ghost

- Greek life has never been without controversy - and through the years, fraternity hazing has occasionally crossed the line from rowdy fun to dangerous rituals. But there was one hazing ritual in the early 20th century that took a deadly turn, sending ripples of controversy and mystery through the nation.

So hazing is trauma bonding by narcissistic entitled bullies so you don't go against the crowd when they harm and do illegal things. How disgusting.
And the fact the father stood by the frat over his own child's cruel demise.
@yeew gow yeah a guy died, who cares🙄 Grow tf up.
@yeew gow So, in your mind, just because people are against the idea of kids being pressured into dangerous activities, they are (checks notes), depressed and likely to "wind up offing themselves"? I'm having trouble following that particular brand of logic, but okay...
@yeew gow I'm an adventurous person but this getting out of hand.
Oh. So you're saying they're socially acceptable gangs?
So sad that his own father stood by the fraternity and the brothers, instead of trying to find justice for his son.
Does it not make it seem more likely that it was just an accident how they’d said more so than the hypothesis
@@harveyholmes9533 even if it is an “accident” it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the hazing, he wouldn’t have been there, he wouldn’t have been the alone at night and he wouldn’t have been drinking or “asleep”. The point is that the cause of his death is directly because of the hazing even if the frat didn’t tie him down to railroad they’re the ones that made him go there at night as a part of the hazing process
Hazing is just an excuse to be cruel to others. No ones trying to bond.
Not necessarily because a lot of people do seem to bond through being in a fraternity together
I don't think it is worth joining a fraternity if they need to hurt you before they accept you.
It happens often, apparently.
Most fraternities don't haze anymore, the ones that do are obviously more likely to make the news
It's like you have never had immature male friends lol
Hazing is still a thing that most frats do, but has become way safer over time. Now the worst that can happen is alcohol poisoning
@@JackieDaytona1776 isn’t it illegal now?
It's pretty apparent that the father knew exactly what had happened to his son, because he had done the exact same thing to other members earlier in his life.
I think the father was still somehow just disappointed that he didn't pass the hazing. The way he dismisses it to him falling asleep and says his death cost his "piece of mind" tells me he didn't care much about him but his reputation
I feel like if you need to get literal alcohol poisoning to join a group…. You probably shouldn’t join it
Often pledges feel obligated because they are 'legacies'
But if you do join that type of group...maybe also look into joining another group called AA.
Imagine defending a frat over your own child….
They’re some messed up priorities right there!

Imagine you being bound to a train track by your fraternity and ran over by a train. and instead of believing the cornier your dad is on the side of the fraternity’s because he was a frat bro 😭😭
The fact his dad sided with the frat makes it seem more likely that they’re telling the truth.
@@harveyholmes9533 He could have just been a terrible dad who supported the bro frat more than his son. Since he was a member of that same fraternity.
@@Silverizael what do you think sounds more plausible though he’s a terrible dad who was glad the frat killed his son and so covered for them or his son died in an accident and he wanted to make sure no one else had to suffer any ramifications for his sons tragic but unfortunate death?
@@harveyholmes9533 The issue is that he doesn't know whether it was an accident or if the frat was involved and, based on what info was given, he never even looked into any of the latter possibility and in fact took actions that made the police investigation impossible.
Even if one thinks it was an accident, the actions he took make no sense, as it was essentially him actively trying to coverup any looking into the incident.
This would’ve been better titled as The Histoy of Tragic Hazing
Interesting story. I love the narrator, but I was hoping for more ghost stuff. It was just barely thrown in at the end. It didn't even need to be in the story. People already like hearing about tragedy. No need to disappoint them with weak half hearted click bait that's presented less interestingly than the story.

Fraternities and sororities are a prime example of privilege.
“Fraternities and sororities are a prime example of privilege.” - person of privilege 2021
You ever stop to think that’s kind of the point. These are organizations that have been around for over many many years with the sole point of pruning people for excellence. They are made up of people who come from money and are heads of massive businesses and industries. I’m not saying they don’t do any wrong or don’t have bad practices, but calling something out for being something that it’s inherently designed to be isn’t smart or clever. They should probably be banned but the fact is there are some that are likely too powerful to completely abolish.
The hell you think the point of it is
@@doublej5171 they are not all this way and that is painting with a very broad brush. People have always found clubs or groups to associate with... it is how freedom of association works. Saying ban them is kind of silly and over reaching into the private lives of others. how would one even do that?
@@andrewostman3135 well considering all the school would have to do is no more fraternities or sororities so banning them would be easy, but that isn’t going to happen. I’m also ok with them being around. I was also referring to the ones who are known to have bad practices not ones who are more like a club. I was not painting them with a broad brush either. I was speaking specifically about the ones who have practices and then ones who have been around forever. Make sure you fully understand someone’s comment instead of taking what they said out of context or spinning what they said to fit how you feel.
Wish they'd stop calling it "Greek life" and name their houses with Greek letters...like no man, that's not Greek at all 😂 Maybe if you add some souvlaki and zivania you'd pass
I’m part greek and knew I wouldn’t get into one if I tried haha
Fraternities seem like more of a spanakopitas and ouzo thing. It's the closest thing to Jager and pizza rolls they'd be able to find, and therefore more their speed.
College writing instructor here. I would have fraternity pledges show up excited about Greek life, writing about it in journals or other work. Then I would notice that some would be showing up very tired to class or starting to miss class, and then either limping along the rest of the semester or just failing to show up at all. I got a negative impression of Greek life during my own undergrad years, and it was only confirmed as an instructor. Some are of course positive experiences, but I didn't witness as many of those.
I was a teaching assistant and a student at Kenyon College. I could tell which were the frat dudes and those who were not. Even sororities it seems very fake and it never really interested me like if I want to do something "good" I don't need to be part of a group...also it seems a little concerning that since 1905 this college hasn't changed that much. I have witnessed terrible behavior from fraternities...

Subjecting yourself to humiliation and torture to be brainwashed into fraternities ran by privileged, entitled, unchecked bullies is insanity to me. Insanity that such fraternities even legally exist at all.
Right? There's probably tons of criminal activity worth punishing but nooo cuz they're privileged white boys
Fraternities are legal because you can’t ban clubs. Also, not all frats are party frats, there’s charity fraternities, educational fraternities, and social fraternities. The social ones are the party ones
Not really very much about the ghost aspect in this video, but it was still interesting. I'm really glad the college I went to didn't have any frats or sororities. They're just overhyped cliques.
Fraternities are pointless and the pledging and hazing is absolutely redundant. It’s all just to say you’re in a fraternity.
Worse, they compensate the person's need of belonging to a group and feeling accepted by it and take profit of it in order to humilliate or endanger people who will later, as they feel part of it, do the same, just "for fun". Not every ritual is like that i guess, i dont want to generalize because i dont know every single time this happens, but i know that passing this rituals strenghts their feeling of belonging and the feeling that it is a privilege or something like that. It is ok to have a group of new people to hang out with and do stuff with when you are in a new place but taking this too far isnt justified in any way and some cases feel like its more like a cult and take it too seriously
We always called them Rent-a-Friends. There are so many other organizations you can join in college that will benefit you way more than a Fraternity.
this is like whiteboys trying to be crips or something
95% nothing to do with a ghost
As a frat man of a huge fraternity in the Philippines. The hazing I experienced was a lot of brutal paddle swings to the back of my legs, they melted a candle and drop the hot wax of my back, was slapped and punched on my chest by the frat men who held positions. As a greek person I always wondered why the fraternity system is called "Greek". There's nothing greek about all this. And the letters not only make little sense (most members don't even know what they stand for) but sorry but they mostly sound weird or funny in an American accent. This sounded like 'betta' date a pie' - and yes that's not at all what they sound like on greek. 😅 If anyone can explain, I'd appreciate it.
Hazing and other practices in there sound truly terrible. I wonder why they haven't stopped yet.
It's a little bit of a read but Appalachian State University has a short page on the history behind the use of Greek letters (link: fsl.appstate.edu/history-of-greek-life) if you're interested. As for why the majority like this haven't been stopped...the short answer is money and classism, I think.
@@AppleFILES wow that's really interesting!
These stories are so tragic. I was in a small, service-based sorority that didn't do hazing beyond like, waking you up at 3 am and driving to breakfast at the beach. It was such a positive in my life and most of my friends 10 years later are from Greek life, but stories like these have lead to Greek life at my old school being nearly eradicated. I wish students would realize you don't need to do anything dangerous to pledges to bond or have them take you seriously.

I went to PSU, unfortunately this is super common for hazing and there are actually WORSE hazing events that some frats make you do (as in more embarrassing or involving hardcore drugs). Calling an ambulance or police is "frowned upon" in some frats but others like the ones I frequented usually did call an ambulance. In fact, my frat and I called an ambulance for a girl who drank to much...but other frats would actually undress unconscious females and take pictures of them nude to pass around the frat

anyways though, you don't need to be particularly "privileged" to join a greek life organization (at least, not *always*), as many comments seem to claim. you mostly have to be willing to go through with their sick games, and otherwise just help out in normal ways really. they exist even at schools with little funding and many impoverished students...I would know. it's mostly at really big and/or expensive schools where you'll find houses with only white students and stuff.
You have to pay dues to be a member. Lots of people struggle to pay tuition, let alone pay a group of people to be their friends.
@@00jyjsarang not true necessarily. perhaps in some, but not all require dues to be paid. also, many students at state schools in particular barely pay anything. especially if you're native. it's more complicated than you think.
You guys should cover the old kenyon fire. That has more of a ghost story around it.
“Most would agree that even the deepest sleeper would awake you the sound of an oncoming train ...” Not necessarily. If you’re on the tracks, it’s been shown that you may not hear it until it’s too late because most of the sound radiates out from the dude of the train. The engine blocks the forward projecting sound.
At least they had the decency to grab his body before the next train…
I’m not usually freaked out by stuff like this. I watch true crime stuff all the time. Something about this story is super unsettleing, I mean more than normal, to me. Maybe it’s just the composition of the video.
