- The Malpas Yesteryear Rally has been a mecca for fans of classic cars, lorries, tractors and wonderful old steam traction engines & rollers for YEARS, and the 2022 show was no exception. We headed over in the mighty Standard 8, injecting a touch of glamour and sophistication to the parking area, and spent a very enjoyable day ogling the many old cars and other vehicles that had turned up. The Malpas Yesteryear rally in Cheshire (close to the Shropshire border) is a two-day show, we went on the Saturday only as the VSCC Loton Park meet was scheduled for the following day.
Car-wise, our highlights included very smart examples of Morris 10M and Ford Model Y, a very appealing post-war Jeep CJ, Vauxhall Viva HB estate, a very original Wolseley 16/60 in the same colour scheme as the example I owned 20+ years ago, Standard Vanguard Phase 1, and a very original Ford E83W van that I last saw many years ago in the corner of a dark barn. Thanks to the owner of a smart Morgan too for having a chat and filling in my scant knowledge of the marque.
On the lorry side, some of our favourites included a wonderful old Foden in its original signwritten guise, a fantastic 1920s Morris-Commercial lorry, a pair of vintage vans (Ford Model T & Austin 7), and a rare Hotchkiss, but there were so many great old vehicles there that it's difficult to draw up a shortlist of favourites. There were also loads of tractors, caravans, steam vehicles and displays, most of which I've tried to capture at least a glimpse of in this video.
Ken Fox's famous "Wall of Death", a long-running attraction that sees various motorcycles and a buggy driven at an impressive rate of knots within a circular wooden structure, also proved to be a great thing to watch - rather them than me, although it is a good excuse to buy and own some fantastic old motorcycles, including Indians - a popular choice for Wall of Death riders.
Thanks as always for watching, and consider subscribing if this kind of viewing is up your street. There are plenty of other show reports now live on the Old Classic Car channel, with more lined up for upcoming weeks.

Well myself & my wife have had a lovely day out in Malpas @ the 2023 event. We have been many times before & its always a high point of our summer things & events to go to. I think I 1st got there in 73/74. I would of been about 12. You could park up on the main road & hop over the hedge to get in. But its matured & expanded & despite Covid it still is a excellent day out for anyone. To anyone who has never been but has thought about it ....... just go next year. I am :-)
Thanks for checking out this vid, yes I had planned to go today but for reasons I won't bore you with, plus the fact that it's chucking it down out there, we'll be skipping it this time around.
Another good one ~ very enjoyable thank you
Yeah we had a fun day out at this one, thanks for watching
The bakers van is awesome. That looks a cracking day out. Keeping one of those lorries on the road must cost an absolute fortune.
That Morgan is beautiful, thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them.
Hi all, you stopped short of white ambulance at one point near the Claymore lookalike truck which I’m sure was the original incarnation of the oily rag truck, I may be wrong but old and ugly enough to remember those ambulances still in action in London Thanks for a great visit.Mike
Great video again, that’s a show which we’ll try to bring the Consul along to next season, thanks
That was wonderful, many thanks. What a fantastic show! The knowledgable commentary from 'the team' is always very much appreciated.
Great video love the leyland steer Chinese six
Watched in 2 parts so just finished, great show, something for everyone, could see you and junior doing wall of death 🤭
That Tarmac reminded me of some of my family worked there in olden days as we're from Wolvo 🙂
Thanks for sharing the video 🙂👍
Thanks for completing your viewing!
Thanks for taking us on your days out. Very enjoyable 👍
Glad these vids are of interest!
Nothing like watching your channel whilst eating my Sunday lunch, my show favourite is the Austin 7 bakers van.
Glad it doesn't bring on indigestion...
thanks for all your hard work making these videos for us. so much fun.
Glad you enjoy it!
A veritable fiest of motor vehicles thankyou Regards from New Zealand
just watched Malpas vid very entertaining a bit of everything all lovely to watch. brings back memories when younger going to see them.
That huge Foden recovery truck has to be my favourite, proper piece of machinery! It was also great to learn about that Morgan, always good fun to chat to the owners! Thankyou for the superb entertainment :)
Glad you liked it, yes that Foden is an incredible old machine isn't it
What a fantastic video - something for everyone here. Lovely to see the Daimler Majestic - one of my 'dream cars' ! The Standard Vanguard was stunning too. Some really beautifully turned out vehicles there - even the oily raggers, it's just great to see them still running. Thanks for such a brilliant video. Take care 🙂
Great video's thanks. You obviously have Australian connections I am in Western Australia (originally from uk) and used to drive coaches, road trains and anything you can think of through the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching, no real link to Oz I'm afraid other than buying Bedford utes quite a few years ago from NSW
Not been to this event before, but it looks like a great show to visit. A great overview of the event and I like the Father & Son discussion. Thanks to you for the entertainment. All the best Bob
My Uncle Sid used to have a girder forked Reliant van back in the fifties, us kids called it a 'Doodle Bug', on the 'Cold War Motors' channel this week there's a pickup version of 'Big Dodge', there's also a Cord Westchester sedan. The red ERF on the trailer looks as though it could be ex-Ushers brewery of Trowbridge judging by its Wiltshire tag, GMR 93. Ushers had a big fleet of those back in the day. The later 'E' type Vauxhalls were known as 'Mouth Organ' grille models. All The Best from Somerset.
Brilliant tour thank you sir 😎👌
just awesome vid. I am sure a lot of people here in Australia are watching. More please.
Thanks , Carl
If you know of anyone who might be interested, please pass on the link - more the merrier! thanks for watching
Excellent video 👍👍👍
Thanks for showing us some great cars and commercials. Isn't Malpas in Cheshire though rather than Shropshire despite the SY14 postcode !
Yes it would appear so! thanks for pointing it out
@@oldclassiccarUK No problem. I must say the depth of your knowledge is absolutely formidable especially on commercials and pre 60s stuff neither of which really appeals to me personally but you find so interesting. All your hard work is definitely appreciated here !
at 44.05 on video mk3 cortina never seen one like this here in ireland it looks different keep videos going there savage
Hi I think that's actually a Ford Taunus - continental version of the Cortina. See it's LHD and wipers sweep the other way. Bonnet and rear quarter panels also different from UK model.
The half cab Foden coach looks superb. If you look the aperture for the starting handle is slightly off centre. I believe this denotes it has Foden's own two stroke engine. The option was a Gardner engine and the aperture for the handle is central to the vertical trim. Or it might be the other way around!!!
It did sound like a two-stroke
Fantastic videos sir your knowledge is exceptional, do you come across many Humber supersnipes?
Thanks, yes sometimes Super Snipes (and Hawks etc) turn up, there was a neat Hawk at an evening meeting I did a vid of earlier this year
The Ss on the Chevelle stands for super sport if you didn’t know.
Ah right thanks!
Love this show would anyone happen to know a lady and gent who display here with army vehicles and have a vintage regency caravan I have lost contact with them
Is it malpas engine rally Show
Yes that's the one
Do a Eddie stobart video please
If they have a collection of old lorries then that would be a good idea, not interested in the new vehicles though. Thanks for watching.
Civ my in the video
Sadly, quite a lot of these are ''old'' rather than ''classic''
Classic is just a general term for anything old I think, it doesn't necessarily imply great virtues I think. Thanks for watching!
