On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

The canards and paint scheme make the SU-33 a sexy beast.
The end of the Hornet era will be sad. I like both the legacy and the Super Hornet, but I am partial to the legacy Hornet (that was the aircraft that I worked on when I was in the Navy). While it will be sad when the last one is retired, it's hard to contend with the capabilities of an aircraft like the F-35.
It won’t get retired too soon tho. Otherwise they would have never made the Block 70/72
It's really not hard to contend against the F-35. The Hornets still does the job and is highly usable.
I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon. Even if it get's retired by the us, it might be picked up by an ally.
That’s why they are stopping production in 2025. They know they screwed up with the f14. They need the extra funds to more faax when it’s available to navy.
F-35 is the Great White of the sky.
The naval battle happening around the dogfight really makes the video more immersive tbh, kinda like the starting scene of Star Wars III. You should do more videos like this!

The Jedi Starfighters are the F-35C Lightning II and the Clones are flying the F/A-18F Murder Hornets. The Clone fighters were massive and 2 seater interceptor bombers. So closer to F-4J Phantoms or F-14s but I digress
The CIS is rocking the MIG-29s fast, cheap, swarm style fighters that have exceptional handling and AWACS style networking. (Droid hive minds)
GS, the naval battle occurring below your dog fight made it extra tense. Interesting videos as usual. Respect from Korea.
In terms of looks, I'm an F/A-18C kind of guy. The more flowing lines look a little bitter, especially on the wing root extensions. That said, I find some visual aspects of the F/A-18E to be quite nice also. The trapazoidal intakes (or whatever shape that is) where you can clearly see the S-ducting for lower observability are pretty cool. I like the angles and edges design language a lot of things like the F-22 and some parts of the Super Hornet, and I do love a bit of "form follows fuction" engineering too. That said, in a contest of looks between the Hornets, for me it's the F/A-18C or go home in 2nd place.
I honestly like the Flankers the most looks-wise. They have such sleek lines flowing into each other so beautifully

@@HuyV That's cool and all, but Flankers aren't F/A-18s, and the specific question was which F/A-18, Legacy Hornet or Super Hornet, do people prefer? I prefer the Legacy Hornet. If we're just going for a sort of favorite looking fighter jet, I'd have to go with the F9F Panther or the F-4 Phantom probably.
I agree. Not a fan of the Super's large LEXs compared to the Hornet's. The cockpit on the E looks too small for the plane, but the two-seat F is where the Super really shines IMO.
Definitely prefer the looks of the super hornet over the legacy hornet.. one of the best looking fighters out there :)
Finally a over the water air battle. Could you do one BVR with a Chinese J-20 and a F-35C naval variant to simulate a engagement over the straits of Taiwan with a Chinese shore based or future Chinese naval stealth like the J-31 against the Naval F-35C. Thanks

Yesss. The Hornet and Super Hornet are some of my favorite military aircraft, I love it when they appear on your channel.

Since you asked, I think in the single-seat the legacy Hornet is the better looking of the two, but the F gets the family model stamp of approval. As always, great vid!

Aesthetic wise, I'm more with the Super Hornet, I like its parallelogram shaped intakes and bigger and rounder (compared to the more sinuous ones on the Legacy Hornet) leading edge extensions
Absolutely loving the varied conditions, weather and even naval battles, much more cinematic!
What's interesting to see is that the R-73 seems to be a lot more deadly when it hits compared to the AIM-9X which usually gives you a chance to eject. I think the deadliness of the R-73 is actually described in the FC3 manual iirc
The Super Hornet seems to me like the Rafale - if you only get to have one multirole airframe for your forces make it either of these.

Btw. with capable pilots, both the F-22 and the F-35 will eat the F-18 and the F-16 as breakfast.
Hell, even the Eurofighter and the Rafale seem to be superior to the Super Bug (according to a recent evaluation, wherd the F-35A won against Rafale, EF and F18).

The Su-33 is indeed heavier than the Su-27 because the strengthened under carriage for carrier landings

9:00 I actually didn't know that the Chinese got the Su-33 from the Ukrainians and then reverse engineered it. Well, that's not much of a surprise - because the Chinese don't give a shit about IP or Patents. When they duplicate technology, who's going to go after them? No one. Also, the Chinese got their first carrier from the Ukrainians too. Well, a Chinese businessman bought it under the ruse that it would be a floating casino. Then, a few years later, the Chinese unveiled their carrier.
Having the fight over a naval battle was a nice touch.

This formula is defiantly the best, but have you thought of trying 2v2s or 3v3s? It'd be real interesting for you to make it as close to a real engagement as possible.

Having the navy battle going on underneath was super cool man. Hugely cinematic.
The naval battle and the wx transition to rain at the deck was a nice touch for immersion. Also, for the love of God, give us Battle of the Canards: A 4-way battle royale between the SU33 Flanker-D, Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, and JAS39 Gripen. May the best 'nard win.
Also from a pure looks perspective I prefer the sleeker leading-edge extensions of the legacy hornet. Supers seem a little too chonky imo.

In terms of looks, the Super Hornet has my heart. Also, i remmeber reading that the Legacy Hornet has a slightly better T/W ratio when compared to the Super, as well as having 578 rounds of 20mm compared to the Super's 412..
But we cannot deny that Su-33's in that paintjob are equally lovely to the eyes as well!
Finally, having this fight against the backdrop of a naval battle, we need more of this please!!!
Aside from the Raptor, the Super Hornet is the best dogfighter. Seeing what the Top Gun pilots here can do with those things is absolutely insane.

I prefer the F/A-18C for single-seat and the F/A-18F for double-seat. The Super Hornet's square-shaped intakes are pretty neat, though I'm not a fan of the larger, curved LERXes.
Super Hornet has a better presence - definitely makes for more impressive display flights with the Blue Angels given the extra size and almost harkens back to the F-4 Phantom days. Legacy Hornet looks a little cleaner with the thinner strakes and also is aerodynamically cleaner and faster I believe (official top speed Mach 1.8 vs 1.6 for the Super, though I think both are pretty draggy and slow with ordnance).
Super is also Mach 1.8
F/A-18 production won't be stopped if *India* orders some but with this announcement and given the better chances the Rafale M variant has it is very highly unlikely.

The C & D Hornets look great but the E & F Super Hornets look way better, the new LERX, the square Air intakes, the proportions...
The Super Hornet truly competes with the F15JSI, the Gripen E & the F22 Raptor for the best looking Aircraft of all time.
I grew up with legacy Hornets but, I really like the Super just that much more. First thing I noticed about the Super, the first time I saw one in person, was just how big the damn thing is. The air display it put on was far more impressive as well.
