On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Игры

AV-8 Harrier VS MIG-23 Flogger
@@Anarchy_420 interesting
@@CallsignAegis thanks😁✌
Btw Yo GS The X-32 isn't The F-35's predecessor it was its competition lol and it's not that ugly!😆👍
The flares on a Harrier serve a dual purpose:
1. Decoy IR-guided missiles
2. Taunt pilots who got shot down by a Harrier
*Falklands trauma intensifies*
I was wondering whether the Flanker would ingest on its intakes and die 😄
@@maybeasian5725 Falklands moment
@@maybeasian5725 Different Harrier, the Sea Harrier was a pretty beastly fighter for it's time and very very differen to the AV8B
The equivalent of t-bag.
The gun doesn't work with the nozzles down etc as bleed air that would be used to power the gun is used instead for the puffer nozzles / reaction control system situated in the nose, tail and wingtips.
Awesome!
I thought gun was driven by an electric motor
Bleed air from the engine compressor?
@@bobdadnaila7708Yup, GAU-12 on external pods is pneumatic actuated.
@@bobdadnaila7708 most guns are hydraulically driven but the harrier uses bleed air for some reason😂
@user-do2ly1qb6b
When I was an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Navy, back in the late 80's
The G.E. 20mm Vulcan cannons in all the aircraft that had one, were cycled by a 5 hp electric motor (housed in the "reciever" of the gun itself) that also had a (whatdayacallit)electric sparker thingy that lined up with the each of the barrels one at a time has they rotated thru the firing position of the cycle. Rather than an actual firing pin and perscussive type primer.
Maybe bleed air to drive some parts of the electrical system but, I wouldn't know. That's more an A E. thing.
I'd think they would want the gun to work under all foreseeable conditions....and would thus drive it with primary electrical but...
How do you drive a gun with bleed air, anyway?
The missile dodges in this series were insane. I'd be so mad
Some of them were so close it's like GS buttered the harrier to make the missiles slide off
How can anyone think the Harrier is ugly. She’s one of the coolest looking jets of all time!
Especially the older sea harriers
@@mustang5132 yea the gr3 though ❤
One of my faves for sure, she's an aquired taste, but shes a looker..
It's definitely not pretty though. Not as ugly as the Mig-15 or Mig-17 but not pretty
@@thiagorodrigues5211 sorry but the sea harrier is a beautiful aircraft. Quite sleek for what it is too
Remember the Harrier vs Sky Hawk when the 2 missiles hit each other. You thought when you went through smoke you would see A-4 parts on fire. Instead the A-4 came through in one piece. Your reaction was funny. I enjoy your Harrier vids.
I remember that, the a4 coming thru the smoke was an amazing moment.
That scene was like taken out of a movie.
No, I take that back.
Better than a movie.
Legend!
Cool, I gotta go watch that.
someone please link it

You mentioned the X-32 being the ugliest plane of all. Fun piece of history: During the JSF program, the competing crews gave each of their opposing team's planes a nickname. The F-35 got the nickname "Fat Amy" due to its ever increasing weight and cost. In return, The X-32 got the nickname "Monica" due to that gaping air intake reminiscent of a presidential intern.
Ahah yes I was actually aware of the Monica nickname. Very fitting
Hey GS, would love to see a video that demonstrates the importance of flares and chaff and what fights would look like without them. I’ve always been curious what dogfights or BVR combat would look like with and without them
This would be great.
Without flares the infrared guided missile would instantly track and hit you if you are under a radar lock.
It would end very quickly
Yea, that would be a nice situation to see.
@@traviswalker8933 It's not a guarantee, literally in this video the missiles didn't go for the flares, they kept tracking the plane but couldn't keep up with it. Alot of Swedish Viggens other than the fighter version were not equipped with countermeasures, the amount of g's you could pull was enough for the missile to loose it's track.
So many people don't know the true potential of a Harrier till they fight one flown by someone who loves her. She will do amazing things for you. And she's beautiful, so whats not to love? 🤣
The Boeing X-32 was a prototype competitor to the F-35 program.
G/S - Like you, the Harrier was my first DCS purchase (along with the MiG-21), primarily because back in the early 1990s, I wanted to join the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm and fly Harriers. I ended up porting over to space technology but so this was the closest I ever got to flying it. It's not the same - but still. It's a legendary aircraft, especially if you consider who in the Falklands, the Royal Navy were totally outnumbered by all types of Argentinian aircraft.
I'm glad to see another Harrier lover! Hopefully razbam get the FRS1 done asap
@@samherbert647 Flying it VR is awesome! But, I think I need the Varjo Aero to really appreciate it because the aespheric lense distorts everything.
@@abdulmismail You could build a cockpit for it and fly with VR. :) Would be awesome to see.
@@gavin1506 While I don't have a cockput, I already 'fly' DCS in VR - but I'm trying to save funds to buy a Varjo Aero because they don't use aesperhic lenses like my (Oculus Rift S) and the HP Reverb 2 do.
I also love the cockpit of the Harrier. So neat and symmetrical, with a big airy canopy. Doesn't feel claustrophobic.
That sidewinder be growlin'
I love these vids so much that I literally had just prayed you'd premier another one today minutes before it appeared in my feed! This outcome of this one was quite the surprise! Thank you for keeping these coming so regularly.
That was the most badass missile evasion yet! When the Harrier does something, it makes it look dramatic and good.
Feels like one of the tougher fights you set yourself up with. Great flying!
“Love it when problems solve themselves”
My chuckle for the day
The Harrier in all forms is a more than capable dogfighter. Does not surprise me that it did well against a Flanker.
I was fascinated with the harrier as a kid. to be honest I wasn’t expecting it to hold up as well as it did.
not the machine its the man
If you flare while rolling, it helps divert the missiles a lot. I did that last night on DCS, and it made 2 missiles miss my plane. Then, when I stopped rolling while flaring, I got hit. There's something about that maneuver of flaring while rolling that helps dodge missiles. I saw Maverick do that in Top Gun 2 and he also made a missile miss.
The more dispersed the flares are, the more targets the missile may hit, and so it reduces the possibility of you getting hit instead.
To be fair, Mav and team were flaring against radar guided SAMs too, it's just movie magic when it comes to that. But I do believe if you saturate the area with more countermeasures, you're more likely to survive, yes.
@@anngo4140well I mean it’s hard to show chaff in any meaningful way
Lmao The X-32 was The F-35's competition and it's not that ugly!😆
This was an awesome video! I love the harrier, i think she's Incredibly beautiful, one of my favorite jets. Love when you bring out the Harrier!
this work is getting better and better! is soooooo cinematic! Gold man GOLD!
I saw the Harrier at an airshow in the early 80s when I was 5. It's been my favorite since.
Great video! Something I did not expect! :D
Round 3 dodge was an amazing shot and exhibition, but Round 4 was perfect execution. Well done! Almost threw his jet at you in Round 5. 😂🤣
i love the harrier, always nice to see you fly it, you're pretty good at flying it btw
1st thought (before watching): "Good luck!" 😄
1st thought (after watching) : "Okay, so now waiting to see you go up against an F-22 with a Piper Cub (carrying a sidearm in the cockpit, of course!)"
I think the Harrier is a beautiful aircraft too. I grew up with a thing for it and I still think I it rocks! Not a conventionally pretty plane but it certainly has its own charisma and I think looks amazing. So happy it scored the kills against the flanker! Great vid as always!
That third round, second missile dodge was "The Matrix" of missile dodges!!
Beautiful...
I watched a pair of Harriers bounce a pair of Phantoms over the Tay Valley in Scotland and realised why they use the term Bounce! They got real close.
Dang it...the *sad Harrier noises* got me lol
Actually spat out my drink when the flanker ripped its own wings off. Amazing content.
I agree; the Harrier is a beautiful plane. Plus she is an icon on several levels; an absolute stunner.
Tell your cat I said hey. Heard him in the background. That or a kid lol. Nice vid man.
Omg the sound effect when the flanker broke his wings 😂😂😂
8:10 I had a Harrier on station in the Tangi Valley in 2008 and she sure was beautiful.
Design wise these 2 planes are my favorites, loved every bit of this battle
an absolutely stunning video, thank you
I've almost watched every one of your videos... Outstanding work!
An interesting video to make would be to compare the Russian/Chinese planes (Su-27, Mig-29A, Su-33, J-11A) to decide which one of the variants you feel checks all of the boxes as the best, overall plane. They have strengths and weaknesses compared to each other.
I'd love to see the F-35B (VTOL) variant in one of these fights.
I live close enough to the remaining 2-3 squadrons of USMC AV-8B that I get to see them flying nearly every day. I consider myself lucky in that regard.
Definitely the favorite part was when the Su-27 zipped overhead flaming without a wing! What a pass!! ;-D
Harrier is probably one of my favourite mega thanks for flying it 😀
your analogy, about harrier and mi-hind is spot on. i count Tu-95 in this category as well
you changed the music.... love it 😍
I am so happy you brought me to dcs flying the hornet is so much fun
keep up the content
10:09 GS your cats in the background meowing 😂
Lol everyone seems to think that but I assure you that’s the engine sound of the Harrier
@@GrowlingSidewinder pilot must have a kitty in the cockpit lol
I didn't realise you'd done a Harrier video. It's nice to see a British plane albeit the American version.
jeez im early! Love ur vids btw! especially the more scenario based ones!
That cobra death was perfect 😂
I love the way the Harrier sounds, especially as she's VTOL landing.
One of your best videos in awhile, really good stuff!
The SU-27, M2000C, & Harrier are the 3 jets I fly most in DCS.
Love the spinny spinny wheels at 9:35
This video really lets me appreciate how BIG of a jump in capability the UK, Italy and Spain are making upgrading their carriers with F35Bs
That scream in the second round lmfao
I have to admit, with that lip thing you did when the flanker combusted into itself, I thought you actually killed it with your guns. Im surprised the flanker can actually kill itself by pulling too hard.
Alot of planes can kill themselves if they pull too hard, thing about modern at least NATO fighters is they have a G-Limiter to prevent such things from happening.
Let see some p39 aircorbra action!! Commoonn is very fun, keep making the vids
That's some Matrix level missile dodging in that Harrier.
Nicely done, Sir.
LOL so enjoyable ! Thankyou ! !
I recall the Wittering station magazine back in the late 80s, 1Sqn had the last gun camera film of the Lightning, and the first of the Tornado F2!
There is a legend in the community that goes by the name Conker. He does things in the Harrier that blows my damn mind.
I swapped a transformer for a harrier airfix model when I was a kid. I now know a harrier pilot, life is awesome
I wonder if you can help decoy a fox-2 by vectoring the nozles when he slots in behind you for a shot... basically turn it into more of a high-aspect shot. May assist you with getting an overshoot, too.
Should have counted the Flanker falling apart as a round.
To paraphrase Fast and Furious he never had his plane.
That AV-8 is a beautiful aircraft!
I live near a Marine Corp air station, so we have a lot of military aircraft fly over the house. I always enjoy the harriers because they are so ridiculously loud.
that harrier gun kill on round 4 is superb!
Cool, haven’t done a harrier vid in a while.
Ive always wanted to see a foght between a Flanker and a Harrier, and while it makes sense that neither would have tried their best-known traits (Cobra vs VIFF-ing), i can only imagine the possibilities
I actually also don't know why but the Harrier is one of my favourite planes
The round 3 second missile dodge was awesome.
The level of mechanophillia GS has for the Harrier in this video is just... unwholesome, and I love it.
Love the Harrier,Keep it going!!
You're my only friend bro, Thanks for doing these videos
Harriar : Ready for fight ?
Su -27 : You have 10 seconds to hide
😂😂😂😂
2:51 How convenient! A bird that clips its own wings!
Nicely done ✅
Love the lines of the Harrier. She looks tough as hell and there's a beauty in that.
2:51 really has me wondering if GS is a Jedi or something
As @Max Afterburner says, there is no free trips through the HUD
The Harrier and the Mi-24 Hind are both amongst my absolute favourite aircraft. Couldn’t agree more, they’re both visually stunning in my opinion.
Awesome
More Harrier videos please
more harrier vids please! i absolutely love the harrier!
I agree with your concept of beautiful aircraft. The X-32 reminds me of a largemouth bass,
Im dead i got that user error on loop at the beginning or round two. Lmao im dead.
I didn’t even know it was possible to rip your own wings off 😂😂
MAN i love zou chanell keep it up zou are a good MAN :)
"We just sawed a flanker in half!" ... _but with the power of flex tape!_
this was really big fun to watch! 2:52 What??? How is that possible,?? I thought a Tomcat was the only one to be able to break in a too short turn??
Alot of planes can kill themselves if they pull too hard, thing about modern at least NATO fighters is they have a G-Limiter to prevent such things from happening.
I think the reason you like the harrier is because it can do so much but its so little and because it has really cool/beautiful visibility
The Harriers "Pull-up" hits hard.
Growling Sidewinder proving one plane at time “It’s not the crate, it’s the man in the crate.”
2:18 Whoever survived in that neighborhood will have one hell of a story to tell!
And crippling PTSD as well
Good video, laughing like hell on gun kills :D
Those goofy ahh harrier radar noises had me dying 💀
According to ChatGPT about the harrier nozzles and the gun:
The exact position of the nozzles that prevents the AV-8B's gun from firing may vary depending on the specific model of the aircraft and the configuration of its weapons systems. However, in general, the nozzles need to be in a fully forward position for the gun to fire safely. This is because the gun is mounted on the centerline of the aircraft, and the exhaust from the engine can potentially damage the gun if the nozzles are not in their forward position. The weapons system is designed to prevent the gun from firing when the nozzles are in any other position.
Love your content S/W when you dogfight 2 aircraft that IRL would never fight. Would it be possible to link your TrackIR settings? Keep up the good work brother!
