I love your videos. I've been back to the Catholic Church for a year and 6 months and you were one of the people who helped me come back after leaving at age 15 and being an Evangelical Protestant for 38 years.
@_KJC_ it's a long story but it started with my dissolutionment with Christian infighting and division. Then, I started watching a Pastor called Steven Anderson. He was very controversial but his preaching was very firey and I loved it. He also preached about how we Christian were now the chosen people and he had versus to back it up. When I told my Pastor about him he called him poison. Again, Christians attacking other Christians, I was so tired of it. Then, one day I saw a trailer for a movie about Padre Pio. I loved it but by watching it the RUclips algorithm began to feed me Catholic apologetics like this channel. For the first time in my life I heard the Catholic position by Catholics. Catholics who actually knew the Bible and knew their faith. Catholic apologetics made so much more sense in light of the Scriptures and when buttressed with the early Church Fathers the evidence became overwhelming. The more I resisted the more I fell in love with the Catholic Church. I began to pray the Rosary everyday. My wife, who is still a Protestant told me to keep praying and not make a decision yet. I kept praying but I couldn't fake it anymore. I wanted to come back. I began to take RCIA with my local Parish and came back to the Catholic Church. I have never been happier. 6 months later my wife and I married in the Catholic Church.
Now you are insubmission to a Vicar without moral judgment who accepts LGBT as an acceptable lifestyle. I suppose where there is no Spiritual power to change the standards have to be surrendered. HOLY Roman Catholic Church indeed!
l’ve been a Protestant my entire life and was baptized as a Lutheran. I’ve gone on mission trips and have been apart of my non denominational church evangelism group for a long time. With that being said last Christmas I was invited to a Christmas Eve Mass by a good friend of mine. I slowly found that everything I was taught about Catholicism was just a false narrative driven by Protestant beliefs. Since then, l’ve been attending Mass almost every Sunday and enjoy the traditions and rituals of the church. I’ve been watching your videos, Bishop Barron and Fr. Mike on RUclips. I’m currently reading Rome Sweet Home. I hope to join a Catholic Bible study at the church and will start OCIA this fall.
Isn't it amazing just how Protestants are lied to about Catholics, and they just don't know any better. The narrative for so long has been misinformation and slander and it's really sad that people who claim to follow a God of truth can't do better in their research and in their intellectual honesty. I'm so glad you were able to see it for yourself though versus what people said about it. And I'm so glad that you got to experience the beauty of a Christmas Eve mass. Wait till you go to an Easter vigil Mass. It'll blow you away. I'm glad we could help you in your journey as well. May God bless you.
I'm catholic and I used to like listening to preachers even from diferent churches. Then after listening to preachers like John macarthur and other anticatholics I realized that I have to be careful who I listen to. Then I stop listening to just anyone who preaches. They're just dishonest.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial The trouble is you and I know you are dishonest with these so-called debunking videos. You do have a Byran fan club which is helpful for your ego and your RUclips channel. If you debated John Macarthur face to face you would not fare too well. Our friend 821 talked about dishonesty. The CC is probably in the Highest echelons of dishonesty as a corrupt Christian organisation. Even baby in the womb are not safe if you don't agree with their Dogma. Elizabeth Pepper 1557.
I was raised Protestant. I was an anti catholic. My pastor would quote all these things. Had a series called one love. About the love of Christ. He would take shots at Catholics every Sunday. I began to think hmm this isn’t love hating on other Christians. I saw one of your videos a few weeks ago and decided to go to mass. I’ve been lied to my whole life. Been to mass the past 3 weeks. I’m signing up for OCIA in August.
Awesome!!!!!! Amazing. Thank you Jesus! Interestingly, you were the third person in the last 2 days to say something like this. I might have to make a video about this and bring it to light. But I'm so happy that God worked his grace and His holy spirit in your life and help you to see. It's so heartbreaking and sad how much slander and misinformation Protestants give without a thought. It's even more sad that no Protestant questions it or decides to fact check any of it. But I'm glad you did, and I'm glad you were on your way home. Praise be the Lord Jesus!
Welcome to the truth.. being a cradle catholic, I realise how our protestant brothers are being Subject to brainwashing.. this has helped me to be more empathetic to protestants on their faith..
Do those sects "preach" by faith alone as as a selling point? The way I interpret this is they are telling people to just say I accept Jesus Christ and you can go on with your life without fear of losing your soul. And then criticize the One True Church to justify...
@@cba4389 the Catholic church does not teach salvation by works.. give me a break!!! do you ever really read the Holy Scripture, I mean really read it? you imply that all we have to do is accept Jesus.. and then go sinning without constraint ... what a dangerous doctrine... in the book of James .. faith without works is dead... in the gospel of Matthew chapter 25.. parable of the sheep and the goats...
The interesting thing about MacArthur's church is that, while they may pay lip service to Sola Fide, they actually believe in double predestination, meaning that even if one had perfect faith yet were destined to be repudiated, they would burn in hell regardless.
What you are describing is antinomianism. That isn't Sola Fide. By Faith Alone you are saved. Because you are saved you have the Holy Spirit. Having the Holy Spirit working on you produces good works.
This very weekend, a Presbyterian possible suitor ghosted me because I dared to say that, under ordinary circumstances, Baptism is required for salvation. ❤
Baptism takes away sins and saves us. Jesus was baptized yet He was sinless. Why so? Because He came into this world to teach us the way to our salvation. He wants us to follow Him and His way or example for us to be saved. If we follow His way/example, we will find the truth. If we find the truth and remain in it until the end, we will find life or eternal life/salvation. That's why Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life."
That's rough. I was baptized in a church (Reformed Bible Presbyterian) which allowed McArthur's staff to sell his books and videos, and the members spout a lot of anti-Catholic and anti-Orthodox bs. I didn't stay on for long after a few years.
He is indeed a Calvinist, and he also believes that his church and associated churches are the only True Churches, and that all others are destined for hell.
I wonder what you mean, if you’re saying God discriminates on who he has mercy on vs who he hardens, that God makes some for honorable use vs others for common use. It doesn’t seem like the kind of text that overrides any other text talking about man’s free will and choice of obedience, like Romans 10. We need to keep in mind the thing Paul wants to argue against the kind of view of free will where a man saves himself by his self-righteousness (in following the mosaic law), when in fact righteousness comes from a gift on God’s part; there remains a free choice to receive his grace through obedience. And God can have a plan for the world that takes into account our free choices
Pope McArthur has to denounce Catholicism As soon as he admits the manna of the OT and Jesus’s insistence that the Eucharist is his body and blood, it’s game over for Protestantism. Eucharist by consecrated priests, descendant from the apostles and church founded by Christ. Pope McArthur doesn’t acknowledge the manna Christ left us and told us multiple times in his own words. It’s all about the Eucharist. 48- I am the bread of life [John 6:48] 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven; that if any man eat of it, he may not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. 53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 55 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. John McArthur. Crackers & juice.
1 Corinthians 11:27-34 "So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world."

3:52 Pope Benedict XVI has a good quote about this 'For this reason Luther’s phrase: “faith alone” is true, if it is not opposed to faith in charity, in love.'
Exactly, true faith, a saving faith, is a working faith that lives itself out in charity and an obedience to God's commandments. Protestants, lutherans and Catholics agree about that. If we are talking about a working faith, faith and works, then we can say that faith alone saves, as opposed to a faith that has no works and doesn't do anything. Sometimes we are saying the same thing but in different ways.
I’ve posted before. I was raised a Protestant (Baptist) for much of my childhood. I began in the Methodist church but most of my family is Baptist. God has led me to the Catholic Church through several incidences in my life. Protestantism is a fraud, I can honestly say the one thing that convinced me is this. I could not cognitively assign logic to the ways of the Protestant teachings. I began to be agnostic in ways because what I had learned from Christianity made little logical sense to me. What I didn’t realize is it wasn’t God that wasn’t making sense to me, it was how I was taught about God. Once I looked at the Catholic Church much of my confusion instantly made sense. Without knowing what I was doing, I prayed the way Catholics say to pray, and I ended up ordering a few books that were guesses. They ended up being the great adventure bible and the 14 rules of discernment. During this time I was studying to be a clinical therapist and my school books were about learning to deal with my own childhood trauma. It’s hard to explain but God led me to the Catholic Church while helping me navigate my own pain. The big giveaway to me that Catholicism is true, is the word grace. Protestants always claimed that Gods Grace was about our wretchedness, that his grace was allowing us a way to heaven. To me this always seemed problematic. I didn’t choose to be here, I have no way around sin, I’m just a human doing my best. But when I learned about purgatory, that you can fail on earth and still have grace, I was instantly blown away and became emotional. God suddenly didn’t look like a Tirant which was the vision j always had of him from the Baptist church, he looked like a loving father that has done everything he can to save us from this world. I hope anyone that is lost in Protestantism looks into these issues more. The Catholic Church is logical. Protestantism is not.
Believing lies is just as confusing. Even babies in the womb are not safe from Catholic Dogma. A couple of names Elizabeth Pepper 1557. Thomas Harding and wife 1532.

Yes, pray for his conversion to Seventh-day Adventism! The true Bible believing Protestant denomination and only denomination truly against the heresies and atrocities and blasphemy of the Catholic Church!
Pray for me, as I have to go to Confession tomorrow as I cursed our leaders in the Vatican and our Pope for allowing so much modernity in the Latin Rite Church. I haven't decided if I am gonna go to a 6:30 am confession or an 11 am confession. I committed the sin on Saturday night, so I still went to Mass this morning to avoid committing another mortal sin. I didn't partake of the Eucharist, as I take the Catholic faith seriously. So I didn't even get up for a blessing. It was a moment of weakness. Instead of praying for our leaders/ bishops in the Vatican and our Pope, I cursed them instead. Forgive me, Lord. I will go to Confession SOON.
If you haven’t before, I suggest you read this, for if you are going to confession then you are truly winning with Christ! Quote: “What distresses souls of good will who are seriously trying to live a spiritual life, is to find themselves falling so many times, despite their continual and sincere resolutions. When they begin a program of asceticism, they are usually very brave and have no doubts concerning their success; but being still inexperienced, and not having yet faced the demands of more advanced virtue, they know nothing of the struggles await them on this way. And herein lies the danger: meeting with new difficulties, they fall; they rise and fall again; again they rise, and shortly after, find themselves prostrate once more until they are, at a certain point, attacked by that most dangerous temptation: to give up the undertaking which henceforth seems impossible. How many souls have fervently begun the ascent of the mount of perfection, but discouraged by their continual falls, have stopped halfway up or even turned back, because they lacked the courage to begin anew every day and every moment. Humility is needed for the exercise of courage; we must be convinced that in spite of our lofty aspirations, we are fallible men like all the rest. Sacred Scripture affirms that the “just man shall fall seven times and shall rise again” (Prov 24:16); how then, can we, who are not just, pretend never to fall? The real evil is not so much in falling as in failing to rise. The distinguishing mark of fervent souls, and even of saints is less their lack of faults, than their promptness in rising after each fall. The annoyance felt by so many souls when they see themselves continually falling, is not the fruit of humility but of pride. They are not yet convinced of their own misery and are astonished to experience it so constantly. They rely too much on themselves; and God, who wishes to lead them to the full realization of their nothingness, permits them to fall again and again. In the plan of divine Providence these falls are for the definite purpose of convincing us that we are miserable creatures. If we wish to adhere to the divine plan, we have but one thing to do: to humble ourselves. But if, one the contrary, we become discouraged, and give up what we have begun, we shall be going farther away from our goal, to our very great loss. But to have the courage to persevere in the struggle, especially when we fall repeatedly-either as a result of our imperfection and frailty, or because God permits it in order to humble us more-we must join to humility an immense confidence in the divine help. Having experienced our own misery we know that we cannot rise relying on our own strength, but there still remains to us a much more powerful resource: trust in the help of God. We shall find the strength to keep beginning again, precisely in trust. God alone can give us this strength, and He will give it in the measure of our confidence: the more trust we have in Him, the stronger we shall be. The more convinced we are that God is calling us to sanctity, and that our personal resources are insufficent for attaining it, so much the more should we be convinced that God will furnish us with the help needed to answer His call. There is nothing illogical in God: if He asks something from us, He cannot refuse us the help needed to give it to Him. Not finding this strength in ourselves, we shall surely find it in Him, in His omnipotent help. “He that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved” (Mt 10:22), said Jesus. He who will persevere unto the end is not he who will never fall, but he who after every fall will humble himself and rise again, relying on the infinite strength of God.” -Father Gabriel of Mary Magdalane, Divine Intimacy

"I can't believe he doesn't know it." That's not exactly true. I used to be a protestant teacher. I knew these things, but chose to ignore them. Maybe that's worse than not knowing all together.
That's a good point. It literally astounds me how many Protestants choose to be interactually dishonest rather than grappling with the truth. And they claim to worship a god of truth. Maybe you can inform us why that is. If baffling.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial Let’s put it this way: when you’ve been taught to understand certain things in a certain way, you just don’t see these issues. You need to understand that there’s a very thick and heavy theology in Calvinism, that intertwining many concepts together, explains away simple things in complex ways. With me, there were a few things that did it: 1) Tradition: Protestants don’t accept it as authority, but accept the canon as an authoritative tradition… that was always strange to me. And that dawned on me when Trent Horn pointed that out during a debate with James White. And I saw White had no honest compelling answer to that. That was a “duh” moment for me. 2) The Pope: Protestants don’t see Peter as the first Pope. But Jesus’ words were always troubling to me: “you are Peter and upon this rock I’ll build my church.” Oh boy, the twisting of scripture I had to go through to explain that away… when the honest reading of the text told me something different. 3) Our Lady, Queen of heaven: Obviously I was never able to teach Revelation 12 properly. And that bothered me greatly. 4) Faith and works: as you said, the only way “faith alone” appears in the Bible is in the negative sense. That was annoying to me. Till I decided to be honest. But I arrived at the Catholic Church FOLLOWING the strictest sense of Sola Scriptura. The Bible alone pointed me to the Church. But I was willing to question everything I believed just to dig deeper into the truth. Most Protestants choose to think they must not have understood certain things properly yet, and will continue to go back to MacArthur, White and Speoul to understand those things better, rather than looking in the obvious direction the Bible is pointing at. I started in the Bible alone, and found the Tradition. I started in Faith Alone and saw the biblical richness of the liturgy and the sacraments. I started in the Security of the Believer and ended up “working up my salvation with trembling and fear.” I started with many doubts, and I found Christ in all his fullness at the altar of the Church. I started as an enemy of the Church, and now that’s the only place I wanna be at.
But in some of the gospels the rich man comes to Jesus and asks what he must do to ve saved, he has followed the commandments and laws, Jesus said it wasn't enough that he must leave earthly things and follow, doing good works for your fellow man.
@@annabrahamson4320 Follow Jesus, Obey His Commandments, and surrender your earthly treasures to help the poor: These three are the main message of the Gospel.
@@healhands5760 Jesus also speaks about doing good works. Good works in sanctifying Grace are necessary for salvation. (Nehemiah 13:14) (Psalm 11:7, 28:4) (Isaiah 3:10, 59:18) (Jeremiah 25:14, 50:29) (Ezekiel 9:10, 11:21, 36:19) (Hosea 4:9, 9:15, 12:2) (Sirach 16:12, 14) - we are judged on our deeds. (Sirach 35:19) (Luke 23:41) (John 3:19-21) (Rom. 8:13) (2 Tim 4:14) (Titus 3:8, 14) (Rev. 22:12) these verses also teach us that we all will be judged by God according to our deeds. There is no distinction between the “saved” and the “unsaved.” “Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” (1 Cor. 3:15 KJV) If works are unnecessary for salvation then are our works tested by fire upon judgement? In verse 15 how is a man saved (not just rewarded) through fire by a judgment of his works? He cannot be describing hell, because people are being saved there. He is not describing heaven, because there is imperfection being “burned up”. “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” (Matt. 7:1-3 KJV) We are not judged just by faith, but actually how we judge others, and we get what we have given. Hence, we are judged according to how we responded to God’s grace during our lives. “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” (Matt. 10:22 KJV) “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Matt. 24:13 KJV) “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Mark 13:13 KJV) Jesus taught that we must endure to the very end to be saved. If this is true, then how can anyone believe in the erroneous teaching of “Once saved, always saved?” If salvation occurred at a specific point in time when we accepted Jesus as personal Lord and Savior, there would be no need to endure to the end. We would already be saved. “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” (Matt. 16:27 KJV) Jesus says He will repay every man for what he has done (works). (Matt. 25:31-46 KJV) Jesus’ teaching on the separation of the sheep from the goats is based on the works that were done during their lives, not just on their acceptance of Christ as Savior. In fact, this teaching even demonstrates that those who are ultimately saved do not necessarily have to know Christ. Also, we don’t accept Christ; He accepts us. God first makes the decision to accept us before we could ever accept Him. Matt. 25:40,45 - Jesus says “Whatever you did to the least of my brothers, you did it to Me.” We are judged and our eternal destiny is determined in accordance with our works. Luke 12:43-48 - these verses teach us that we must act according to the Lord’s will. We are judged based upon what we know and then do, not just upon what we know. Luke 14:14 - Jesus says we are repaid for the works we have done at the resurrection of the just. Our works lead to salvation. Rom. 2:6-10, 13 - God will judge every man according to his works. Our salvation depends on how we cooperate with God’s grace. 2 Cor. 5:10 - at the judgment Seat of Christ, we are judged according to what we have done in the body, not how much faith we had. 2 Cor. 9:6 - Paul says that he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully, in connection with God’s judgment. 2 Cor. 11:15 - our end will correspond to our deeds. Our works are necessary to both our justification and salvation. Gal. 6:7-9 - whatever a man sows, he will reap. Paul warns the Galatians not to grow weary in doing good works, for in due season they will reap (the rewards of eternal life). Eph. 6:8 - whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same again from the Lord. Col. 3:24-25 - we will receive due payment according to what we have done. Even so, Catholics recognize that such payment is a free unmerited gift from God borne from His boundless mercy. 1 Tim. 6:18-19 - the rich are to be rich in good deeds so that they may take hold of the life which is life indeed, that is, eternal life. 2 Tim. 4:14 - Alexander the coppersmith did Paul great harm, and Paul says the Lord will requite him for his deeds. Heb. 6:10 - God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love which you showed for His sake. God rewards our works on earth and in heaven. Heb. 12:14 - without holiness, no one will see the Lord. Holiness requires works of self-denial and charity, and does not come about simply by a profession of faith. 1 Peter 1:17 - God judges us impartially according to our deeds. We participate in applying the grace Jesus won for us at Calvary in our daily lives. Rev. 2:5 - Jesus tells the Ephesians they have fallen from love they used to have, and orders them to do good works. He is not satisfied with their faith alone. They need to do more than accept Him as personal Lord and Savior. Rev. 2:10 - Jesus tells the church in Smyrna to be faithful unto death, and He will give them the crown of life. This is the faith of obedience to His commandments. Rev. 2:19 - Jesus judges the works of the Thyatirans, and despises their tolerance of Jezebel, calling them to repentance. Rev. 2:23 - Jesus tells us He will give to each of us as our works deserve. He crowns His own gifts by rewarding our good works. Rev. 2:26 - Jesus says he who conquers and keeps my works until the end will be rewarded in heaven. Jesus thus instructs us to keep his works to the very end. This is not necessary if we are “once saved, always saved.” Rev. 3:2-5,8,15 - Jesus is judging our works from heaven, and these works bear upon our eternal salvation. If we conquer sin through faith and works, He will not blot our names out of the book of life. This means that works bear upon our salvation. Our “works” do not just deal with level of reward we will receive, but whether we will in fact be saved. Rev. 3:15 - Jesus says, “I know your works, you are neither cold nor hot. Because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth.” Jesus is condemning indifferentism, which is often based on our works. Rev. 14:13 - we are judged by the Lord by our works - “for their deeds follow them!” Our faith during our life is completed and judged by our works. Rev. 20:12 - “the dead are judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done.” Rev. 22:12 - Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense, to repay everyone for what he has done.” Sirach 16:12,14 - we are judged according to our deeds, and will receive in accordance with our deeds.
So, I never believed faith alone, even as a Protestant: if sin can send you to hell and knowing to do good and not doing it is sin, then it's obvious that at some point good works of some sort are required for entry into Heaven. However, I do have to say that I had read the Bible completely through dozens of times, and after I began my conversation process, I came across all the verses talking about baptismal regeneration and sacramental reconciliation, and I was so surprised because I had no memory of having read most of those verses before.
@flightless8903 Thank you, but I believe I left the wrong impression: when I mentioned beginning my conversion process, that was a process that began quite some time ago. In fact, my wife and I were Confirmed on Palm Sunday.
I was surprised to learn that a lot of so-called Protestants don't even really believe in the doctrines of classical Protestantism like eternal security and forensic justification. So can you really even call them Protestants at that point? A basic reading of scripture will lead you to conclude that grave sin impacts our relationship and standing before God, so our status and relationship with Him is not a fixed and permanent thing but is dynamic and evolving. Sounds like you realised that from your reading of scripture without looking at it through a Protestant lense.
MacArthur is a 5-point Calvingelical; he doesn't believe Jesus came to save the entire world and God has already condemned some of us to hell. Clearly, this isn't someone any Catholic should take seriously.
Having listened to and read numerous articles and books by John McArthur over the course of my life, I do not believe he does not understand the message of Paul in Romans and Galatians. JM does understand that Paul is talking about the “works of the law of Moses.” JM is not ignorant; he is dishonest. JM is pushing his theology into the texts of Scripture in order to profit from teaching the popular error of “once saved always saved.” He cannot have OSAS without “faith alone.” It is the same with all Reformed teachers. They interpret Scripture through the lens of their “theology.” This is how they are trained in seminary. JM has been financially successful over the years at “marketing” his heretical views for money 💰. I know this sounds unkind. However, if you look at all the facts I believe this conclusion is true. Sad but still true… 🤔
A few years ago, I did a simple google search of JM and discovered his net worth was north of $20,000,000. So, for that reason, I would agree with you. The bottom line is that every protestant church is a business first and church second. It must have fiscal viability to survive, hence any other church is in theory, nothing more than a competing business to him. This is why the intellectual dishonesty and the incessant need to have others believe his way is the right way.
I am a Protestant and I listen to John Macarthur a lot. Protestants by and large believe that salvation consists of faith alone, but faith is ALWAYS followed by repentance - a turning away from sin, a hatred for the things that God hates and a love for the things that God loves. Protestants also believe that saving faith includes turning away from the world. All of these things occur because we are new creatures, and we naturally want to be more holy like Christ. Protestants tend to see baptism as something you should do, but is not required for salvation. I love Catholic brothers and sisters. Most Protestants would too if only they would try and understand what Catholics teach.
That’s the Problem.. people like John McArthur put people off actually learning about Catholic beliefs because of the lies he tells.. If you want to convince someone you’re being honest.. tell a smattering of truth and propagate the lies alongside it. Then people think.. well he’s right about that and that so he must be right about the other stuff..
@@Bobby-xr4bo Yup, John Macarthur is not trying to humbly understand Catholic teachings from a value-neutral perspective. If he did, he would see that there are more similarities between Protestants and Catholics than there are differences. For example, the great apologist Dr. William Lane Craig see's both the good and the bad in Catholicism rather than just focus on the bad like John MacArthur (Dr. Craig also points out the good and bad in Protestantism too).
So they say faith alone but it's not really faith alone. It's faith and a whole lot of other things that Catholics say and which Protestants condemn whwn Catholics say it. It's very interesting. I've been saying for so long that Catholics and Protestants actually have most of it in common when it comes to believing in Jesus and being saved by him through faith. But so many problems since just won't listen to what we say and would rather live off angry misinformation. We love and pray for them all though.
It depends on the protestant. The original Protestants saw baptism as necessary for salvation. And many Protestant denominations still do today. But that's protestantism, completely divided and unable to figure out Doctrine for 500 years based on the Bible alone.
@@jeffhook7669 didn’t you see how he was debunked and the lies and ignorant things he was saying in this video ? I guess he got you too You fell for it. 🤦🏻♂️
@@jeffhook7669 I hope you realize that Martin Luther invented that “saved by faith alone “ no one in the history of Christianity believed it for 1500 years until he came up with that . Do you know that Eastern Orthodox churches are apostolic and are as old as the Catholic Church 2000 years they also reject that idea of faith alone ? James says, “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.”
Jeff, sad that you don't know the truth. You didn't even have the intellectual honesty to watch the video and hear the other side because you're too afraid. If you really had the truth you could hear both sides. But you're just blindly following this man who has no clue what he's talking about and you don't have the scriptural knowledge or the historical background to know that you're being deceived.
@@jeffhook7669 not by works ephesians is simply saying not by works done by our own natural powers and tgat grace is a free gift of God which we cannot merit. But this doesn't condemn good works done in grace as these are necessary as ephesians explains in the very next verse which protestants love to leave out," For we are his workmanship created in christ Jesus in good works, which God hath prepared beforehand that we should walk in them"( ephesians 2: 10) Not of works means not work of our own growth or from ourselves but rather as from cooperation with grace of God which he freely gives us that we may do good works which he has prepared for us to do. And also our faith is shown by our works as james says," show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works"( James 2:18).
I agree with that statement. After 54 years of practicing the faith I have seen a lot of changes and I think the biggest change I have seen in Christianity is the desire to worship God on our terms instead of His. All these people on here who reject all authority saying follow Christ not religion are proof positive of this desire. They are part of the Me and Jesus movement. I always point out to them, notice who you just put first in that relationship? God Bless

ngl Bryan i used to hate your channel, purely because it opposed what I believed as a protestant. However, after some time studying the scriptures, understanding church history, and lots of prayers, I've become a lot more receptive to the Catholic faith. Thank you for your great work!!
Bryan, how about initial and on going justification and where meriting comes into place? Perhaps in in part 4? I think you did a good job here and it helped me out a lot. Thank you.
There are numerous vs throughout scripture that debunk Faith alone salvation, OSAS and double Predestination: John 2:24, : "So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father 1 Peter 4:18, : "And, 'IF it is difficult for the righteous person to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner? Hebrews 10:26 “For IF we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins” ) 1 Cor 15:2 By this gospel you are saved, IF you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. John 15:6 IF you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. Rom 2 6 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. Matt 24:13 "but the one who stands firm to the end WILL BE saved" Romans 8 :1 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus". (There is no condemnation provided you remain in Christ Jesus cf. John 15)
Yes. The Topic is JM. Lol.. And Yes, My idol Bryan Mercier debunked him again!!! Lol.. As my journey to Catholicism, I remember the Passage in the bible: Jesus Christ is a good pastor and Also a high Priest. If someone approach you and said he is a pastor but not a Priest. It's a Red flag!!! Viva Christo Rey Ave Maria 🙏✝️📿❤️💚💙
Viva Christo Rey! Where are you from, It’s not often that I hear “Viva Christo Rey!” Even less know about the 1844 Bible riots , and how early America demonized Catholics pretty much till Kennedy. Regardless; congratulations on your journey. 🎉 Keep on living and defending your faith.
We were working set one with a big Protestant but he couldn't even get the information right in the topic we were choosing. Currently, we are trying to set something up with Kent Hovind, did Jesus start the Catholic church or the Baptist church, but the line seems to have gone silent on his end. I keep reaching out with nothing coming back.
Calvinists make God evil, especially with the wretched ideas of double predestination and substitutionary atonement. They believe that Christ burned in hell out of punishment and wrath, and that God The Father abandoned The Son on the cross.
Brian should take a look at Romans 11:6, Ephesians 2:8-9. Ephesians 2:10 says clearly 'created in Christ Jesus' unto good works. Meaning to say only by grace through faith in Christ can you be created as a new creation (2 Cornthians 5:17) to do good works. But these good works are not instrumental cause of justification, but rewards (1 Corinthians 3:14) These teachings by Paul was written to the Gentiles, after the middle wall of partition was torn down. Brian's argument about believe, repent and baptism, reference to Mark 16:16 was the good news message, known as the Gospel of Kingdom, preached by Christ to the Jews only. Whereas the Apostle Paul was an Apostle sent to preach the good news, called the Gospel of Christ, to the Gentiles, who are the uncircumsied, whereas Peter was the Apostle sent to preach the Gospel of Kingdom to the circumcised (the Jews) (Galatians 2:7)
You should probably actually watch the video. We covered all of this in the video. We said we are saved by grace through faith, and that we need to do good works as well as scripture states. Peter may have preached to the circumcised, but he was still one of the church leaders in Jerusalem who met in Council to discuss and decide doctrines. Acts 15:1-11. Protestant say that he had nothing to do with the gentiles, but biblically speaking, this is inaccurate. Peter was the one who received the Revelation about the Gentiles and was the one who welcomed them into the Church. He's also the one who authoritatively settled the matter on whether they needed to be circumcised or not when entering the church. So preaching to the Jews was not his only mission. Jesus said feed and tend his shape, not just the Jewish ones, but all of them (Jn 21:15-17)
He condemns himself. MacArthur has no divine given guidance to preach the word of god. He leads countless souks to hell. No salvation outside the church.
Calvinists believe that we don't have free will for this exact reason. It is so messed up. If we are saved by faith alone, then *we* decide whether we are saved or not and Jesus has *no choice* to save us or not - so there comes the predestination doctrine....Jesus *chooses* who will have faith and who won't. So what is faith then?? Nothing, I guess!
Brilliant! 👏 ❤️ I just don't know how to explain to protestants, actually I don't understand their narrative that the Priests call Christ to descent from the throne, during the Holy mass (?)
It's sad that a highly intelligent man as John MacArthur would lose his way in spectacular mocking manner not just against our Popes but against our Blessed Virgin Mother above all. His heart is driven mainly by envy for the chair of St Peter which he knows he will never have and pride in thinking he has greater authority, which he clearly has none. I pray his heart may be softened by humility and repent for attacking the spouse of our Lord Jesus Christ that is the Roman Catholic Church, and the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Virgin Mary, full of grace, Queen of heaven and earth.
If you hear something repeated over and over enough one starts to believe it regardless if it’s fact or not. As a former Protestant I just believed whatever my pastor preached and didn’t usually bother to research it and just repeated it to others, such as living a “100% sin free” life. Sad how easy it is to mislead others even if you don’t mean to. I got to the point I was done being spoon-fed whatever was served and took it upon myself to crack open books/ listen to what the Bible / Christianity really is about and listen to these YT videos from Brian/Steve Ray/Scott Hahn and was led to the CC. If more would take it upon themselves to do their prayerful research we’d have more CC conversions I think. Praise God for those who have been led home! Praying for more to be!
Beautiful and amazing comment. I love when people share their past honestly and humbly and share the real sad and scary state, the stunted intellectual state of protestantism in the world. It's truly sad that so many are deceived and they don't even know they are. But I'm glad that God graced you and open your eyes and brought you home.
Thank u Brian for bringing out such videos.. what baffles me is the ignorance of the most learned of the protestants or may be their lack of acceptance of the truth..
Thank You Always Bro Bryan for your great work of debuncking these HERETICAL evangelical protestants FALSE preachers. I have learned so much from you by enlightening me in the correct interpretations of the Bible.... IN CONTEXT ! It has certainly strengthen my faith in the Catholic Church which Christ founded 2,000yrs ago. God Bless You 🙏🏻

Never say never, but there are some people who you can see in their eyes that Satan has such a hold on them that they will never submit to the truth. John MacArthur is one of those people.
@@uchihadabba699holier than MacArthur? Who knows. But once you see how those men lie and slander, then you cannot even think they're honest nor even of God.
Hello Bryan, I'm a former Catholic now a Protestant and have just found your videos and have enjoyed the thoughts they have provoked out of me. I'd like to first start by saying that your exegesis of a true saving faith is great. I have felt that the superficial raising of a hand or saying a sinners prayer without a change of life has been the biggest downfall of the evangelical church. To many Protestant's hang on to a faith alone not knowing what is truly meant by it, causing a move by some to Catholicism because there is a higher form of reverence in the mass than in most evangelical services. When the reformers came up with the 5 sola's it wasn't meant as a stopping point of peoples faith, it was only to rebuke Rome's teachings and traditions of justification. Faith alone is to emphasize that apart from Christ we cannot be justified before a pure and holy God. It is through this faith that causes us to repent of our sins and walk in obedience of the word. "If we say we have fellowship with him while walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth." ( 1 John 1: 6) 2 examples to show faith alone in the bible would be the thief on the cross. His faith that the man next to him was the messiah caused him to call on him to remember him once he entered into his kingdom. No good works could be done by him to justify him, only his faith. The other is the story of the pharisee and the tax collector Luke 18: 9-14. Despite all the Pharisee's upholdance of the law ( I know not works based on your video) and his thinking of righteous living was not credited to him as righteous. But the tax collector, who was living by all accounts a sinful life, prayed to God to be merciful to him. And went to his home "justified". Before any good works took place he was justified by his repentant heart. A heart that only comes from a faith in the only one who can save! I write all this to say that I think most of what your saying is very good and it would do many prostants good to walk out their faith in good works and changed lives. But our justification is through grace alone, by faith along, in Christ alone, all for his glory alone!
Thank you so much for watching, and thank you for your comment as well. Many good thoughts in your comment. I pray that more people would watch these videos and think about them deeply as well. May God bless you.
Hello! I guess you attributed to the quotation the wrong reference. I didn't find it on the Council of Trent Canon 7, but I found it on the Council of Trent Session 6 Chatper 8. But the quotation is right. It is just its address that is wrong. By the way, good video. I learned a lot about my Catholic Faith.
Porrrfet lutherrrr and ( 40k ) and the followers corrupted the interpretations which lutherrr himself couldn't adjust into his life as he was way more into his sinful life ...these are the results ...
Thank you for the comment. In Ephesians 2:8-9, faith alone is _not_ being taught, and good works are _not_ veing condemned. You will notice that Paul makes a distinction between "works" in Ephesians 2:8-9 and "good works" in verse 10. Clearly, works and good works are two different things. Nowhere are good works condemned or are said to be not needed. So you are misusing this passage. There are two different types of works. Paul talks about that are not good works. 1. Works done by our own power that don't mean anything or do anything. 2. Jewish Works of the law. These are the Old Testament rituals, cleansing, and things like circumcision. This is the majority of what Paul condemns when he uses the word works. Eph. 2:8-9 is talking about works done by our own power. We can't save ourselves. It's all the work and grace of God. And you will note that he condemns those "works," which are different than the good works which he mentions and we are called to walk in, in verse 10. The entire New Testament says we need to live out our faith, follow the commandments, be obedient to Christ, bear good fruit, and stay faithful until to the end or we won't be saved (Jn. 14:15, 21-24; Jn. 15:5-7, 10, 14; Mt. 19:15-23, James 2:24; Rom. 17-22; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:17-22; Jn. 3:5; Heb. 10:26-29; Rev. 2:4-7, 10, 19-26, Mt. 25:31-46).
Thats why it is so very wrong, very dangerous and VERY SINFUL TO GOD to interpret the Bible by your own or against the interpretation of the Catholic Church, the TRUE Church founded by Christ.
We need to conform always our interpretation of scriptures to the Catholic Church's interpretation so that we will not be led astray and deceived by our enemies (devils and false teachers). The official teaching of the Church/Pope is the correct interpretation of the Word of God. There's no error in the catholic teachings as written in scriptures. (Matthew 16:18, 28:20)
"IF the Church (founded by Christ) teaches error or heresy, it will die or cease to exist." - church teaching or catholic teaching. But according to the teaching of the Bible and the Catholic Church, it is impossible to happen because of Christ's promise of protection from error/heresy to His Church until the end of the world.
They always say faith alone. Some of then said we are saved even we committed mortal sins. We have faith in Christ ones saved always saved. No early Church Fathers taught that. Faith alone teaching is invented by martin luther 1500 years after our Lord Christ founded His Church. We pray for the members of john mcArthur sect and for pastor john. I hope one day they recognize The True Church of Christ.
The little I know about John MacArthur is from clips I see on various Catholic channels. Why would any real Christian listen to his bigotry. It’s obvious he has received so many blessings from God but uses them not to glorify God but to twist them to his own destruction. I will pray for his conversion.
Hello! I've seen that there're more than one Catechism. One of them I know, which is the Catechism of Trent, but I've seen other versions. Could you give me a brief explanation of what they are?
I love how you say faith and works/obedience work hand in hand. That is 100 per cent true (and I am Protestant). You cannot be a Christian by just professing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Indeed, your love for Christ will ALWAYS be followed by repentance and good works. If you do not smell, look, and act like a Christian, then you aren't a Christian.
There are 2 kinds of faith. 1) dead faith or faith alone which does not produce hope, love, obedience and good works 2) living faith which produces hope, love, obedience and good works, therefore, a living faith is not faith alone. I realized it's not only protestants who have faith alone or practice faith alone but other catholics also because there are catholics who have only faith in God but don't obey God's commands. These catholics have only dead faith or faith alone. Other protestants don't believe in faith alone and osas. They believe you need to obey God's commandments out of love for Him in order to be saved. These protestants are correct in this area because it is also the doctrine of the Catholic Church and of course, the teaching of the Bible.
They say Catholics believe too much. We believe too much in Jesus. Because we believe too much in Jesus, they say we will not enter heaven. 1:06 then 1:17 Where doe he say that he doesn't believe in Jesus? Doesn't a person who devotes their entire adult life to Jesus a person who believes? If they don't believe *alone* does that mean they lost? And where does it say _by faith alone?_ Can't I demand that bit of scriptural evidence for something as these people always cry for. 1:20 *where is that in the Bible?*
In reading the comments it is clear many Catholics don't have a solid understanding of what non Catholics believe when they say Faith Alone. It isn't antinomianism. Faith produces good works. It isn't the works in of themselves that saves but rather it is a byproduct of true faith. We have no part in our own salvation since it is the Holy Spirit that brings us to the faith.
I do agree with what you said to a point. But I just want to point out that it can be difficult because there is no one "solid understanding" of Faith Alone. Non-Catholics don't have a teaching document like the Catholics do in the Catechism, so there is no way of knowing what the definitive "solid understanding" might be. Faith Alone to a Calvinist does not have the same "solid understanding" that the Lutheran or the Methodist or the modern day Evangelical has. I have honestly had faith alone defined as since there is nothing I can do to get myself saved then there is nothing I could ever do to lose my salvation, meaning their faith doesn't have to produce love, it's pure mental assent. That being said I think all Christians need to be more charitable in their discussions and be willing to acknowledge the understanding of their fellow Christians. Sure it can be difficult and take a lot more time, but it better than wasting time talking past one another. Finally, I just want to point out that what you said here is pretty close to what Catholic's believe so it's obvious that MacArthur's statements also make it pretty clear that he doesn't have a "solid understanding" of what Catholics believe as well. Not being snarky just pointing out that the door swings both ways and we should all be willing to have better back and forth dialogues instead of presenting arguments against what we think the other is saying. God Bless
@@Matt-1926Honestly Matt if protestants were charitable towards Catholicism and Catholic Christians perhaps we could get along. Unfortunately most, almost every protestant commenter post things on Catholic channels are outlandish misrepresentations, atrocious slanders and insulting ad hominem rash judgements. So where do you think they learn this? From people like Ortland, MacArthur and hundreds of other allegedly protestant leaders and their own pastors in every church venue. I was an evangelical and I heard it nearly every week so I left to save my soul. I will pray for your conversion. God bless.
Birddogey, except that it is exactly that for many Protestants. It is antinomianism. Many Protestants say you don't need any works at all. Others say it doesn't even matter if your works are evil if you're saved. There are so many different versions and branches of protestantism that you can't say this is Protestant or that is Protestant because they bickered and differed from each other for 500 years and have more denominations forming by the day. We do agree with you though that a true salvific faith has good works. It's not magic though, and the faith does not just magically produce them, but it's a choice we have to make every day to follow Christ and cooperate with his grace. You say we have no part in our salvation but that's also false. We have to come to christ, we have to put our faith in him, we have to repent of our sins, and we have to live out our faith and remain obedient to him. That's a whole lot of things we have to do from our side. Yes, it's by Christ's grace, so it's his work in us, but there is still a response from our part. People who don't do anything don't go to heaven. Just ask the heathens. ;)
Faith doesn't have to produce good works. It *should* but it is not a must. Faith is _only_ faith. There are many people who believe but they also blame. Or they don't wish to live the life and instead party it up. I'm sure there are more reasons why someone believes but then doesn't follow the _narrow path._ You are partially right in Catholics don't have a solid understanding of what a diverse group of Protestants believe when they say faith alone. Some say "once saved you cannot go to hell" other say that it is possible.
I have a genuine question about Abraham, I'm not being snarky, just something related to works before we come to Christ (I'm baptised Catholic but, at 63, I have yet to be confirmed which is something I want to do). Anyway, my question is ... If works before we come to Christ don't count, how was Abraham saved by his works when he never came to Christ? Christ was 1200 or 1500 years in the future.
This is the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the old testament, it was based on works, the works of the law, keeping the works of Moses or the law of Moses. It was supposed to be kept to perfection, but in the new testament, Jesus saves Us by his grace and his cross because he knows that we can't keep anything to perfection. Which is now why we need to rely on him through faith and his grace. Even so, Abraham is held up as a model of faith and obedience, because all of his Works were done out of love for God and an obedience to him, just as ours are supposed to be. However our works that are done before we come to Christ Our just our own as opposed to the ones we do after Christ which had been out of love for him and by him and through him. I hope this helps.
[Revelation 22:14] " Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city." where is the faith alone? 💁♂️💁♂️💁♂️
Except, of course, that Salvation IS BY FAITH, and "Works" are not "salvific", and only the RESULT of being Born again. Mac has issues with "Full Gospel" folks, but he's completely accurate about SALVATION.
What you meant to say is that faith is not so difficult if it does not have works and is not lived out in obedience. Therefore without works, faith does not save you. The Bible is so Ultra clear about that which means John MacArthur is dead wrong as we showed for 50 minutes in this video. (James 2:24) Stop Believing just what you want while closing your eyes and blocking your ears. Actually listen to the other side for once.
Faith alone is implied in all the verses you attempt to refute. Faith + anything being required for salvation is heresy. If it is faith plus something it may as well be faith plus everything. No one can ever know if they are doing enough. Which is ironically the very thing Catholicism teaches. Ephesians 2:8-9 is the gold standard. Always has been. Always will be. Paul didn’t need to write “For it is by grace alone you have been saved through faith alone…it is completely understood this is what he meant. Anything else negates God’s plan of salvation and the blood of Christ.
Thank you for the comment. In Ephesians 2:8-9, faith alone is _not_ being taught, and good works are _not_ being condemned. You will notice that Paul makes a distinction between "works" in Ephesians 2:8-9 and "good works" in verse 10. Clearly, works and good works are two different things. Jesus said faith plus baptism, so you already disagree with Jesus. Faith isn't a one time moment. Thus, you need to believe and obey, live out that faith. Read Jn. 14:15, 21-24; Jn. 15:5-7, 10, 14; Mt. 19:15-23, James 2:24. So clear that faith is not alone and faith alone doesn't save.
The debate over “faith alone” and justification is significant, but Mr. Mercier misrepresents Protestant theology and key biblical teachings. Protestants affirm sola fide because justification is grounded entirely in Christ’s finished work. Paul writes, “We maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law” (Romans 3:28) and “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… not by works” (Ephesians 2:8-9). The concept of justification by faith alone is consistent throughout Scripture, even if the exact phrase appears explicitly only in James 2:24. James 2:24 addresses justification before men, not before God. James emphasizes that living faith produces good works, while Paul highlights that justification before God is by faith alone (Romans 4:5). Both agree that true faith results in works, but works are the fruit of salvation, not its cause. James’ analogy of the body and spirit (James 2:26) confirms this: works demonstrate faith’s vitality but do not create it. Mr. Mercier conflates “works of the law” with good works, misunderstanding Paul’s intent. Paul condemns reliance on Mosaic practices like circumcision and dietary laws (Galatians 2:16, Romans 3:20), not obedience to Christ’s commands. Romans 4:10-11 illustrates this: Abraham was justified by faith before circumcision, proving justification comes apart from the law. Good works are essential evidence of faith (Ephesians 2:10) but play no role in earning salvation. While the Catholic Church teaches salvation by grace, it links justification to sacraments and human cooperation, diverging from Scripture’s teaching that salvation is a free gift (Romans 6:23). Justification is by grace alone, received through faith, without reliance on human merit or rituals. Abraham’s justification, as cited in Genesis 15:6 and Romans 4:2-5, underscores this. Abraham’s faith was credited as righteousness before any works, proving justification rests on trusting God’s promises, not human effort. Protestants agree that good works are necessary evidence of saving faith (James 2:17) but affirm they follow salvation rather than contribute to it. The Bible’s consistent message is that justification comes by faith alone, rooted in Christ’s perfect work. Good works flow naturally from saving faith, but they are its result, not its foundation. As Paul concludes, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith… not by works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). In the name of Jesus Christ, I bless you all!
Actually it's you and Mr MacArthur who conflate works of the law and good works. As we showed throughout the video, he made them synonymous, and they are not synonymous. Nowhere does the Bible condemn good works. Many Protestants falsely think Paul condemns good works in Romans 3 and Romans 4 and Eph 2. Not at all. Romans 3, for example, says that we are saved by faith apart from works _of the law. _ Works of the law are not good works. Works of the law was the law of Moses - all of the Old Testament rituals, laws, dietary restrictions, and other things like circumcision. These are the works Paul is talking about in Romans 4, and we know this because he mentions _circumcision 9 times_ just in Romans 4 alone. This is different than following God's commandments and doing good works, which Jesus said we must do (Mt. 19:16-22, Mt. 25:31-46), Paul says also (Rom. 2:6-7, Eph. 2:10); James mentions (James 2:24), and pretty much everyone in the New Testament, including John (Rev. 20:12). You will notice that in James, this is the only time the word's _faith alone_ are mentioned in the entire Bible, and it says we are _not_ justified by faith alone. You will also notice that Paul makes a distinction between "works" in Ephesians 2:8-9 and then "good works" in verse 10. Clearly his works and good works are two different things. Works are almost always works of the law from the Jews. Nowhere does it say in scripture that we don't need to walk in good works. Rather, there are many passages that state clearly that if we don't live out our faith, obey the commandments, bear good fruit, and stay faithful, we won't be saved.
There are 3 different types of works mentioned in scripture. 1. Our own works that we do by our own power. 2. Works of the Law (what Paul condemns in Romans and Galatians) 3. Good works done by God's grace out of love for him. When the Catholic Church says we are not saved by our works, it is talking about #1. It means we cannot save ourselves, earn our salvation, or work our way to heaven by any merit of our own. In order to get to heaven on our own, we would literally need to be perfect, which is impossible. However, a faith that does not have good works is also dead and does not save. Good works don't just magically happen as if we are robots, we have to cooperate with God's grace and choose to follow him each and every day. That's what the church is saying. And the more we choose Christ and choose to follow him. The more his grace and spirit work in our lives, increasing our merit and salvation. But again, it's his work and grace in us. Yet we have to cooperate with that grace and be faithful. If a Faith does not have good works, is not obedient to Christ and doesn't remain faithful, you won't be saved. Thus, faith and works are needed according to scripture. It's the faith that saves us, but not any old empty, kind of faith.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial Thank you for your thoughtful response. While we agree that good works express true faith, we differ on their role in justification. I believe scripture clearly teaches justification by faith alone, with works as evidence, not a cause. Ephesians 2:8-9 emphasizes salvation as a gift, “not by works, so that no one may boast.” Verse 10 affirms that good works follow salvation but does not suggest they play any role in justification. Introducing a distinction between types of works in verses 8-9 imposes something Paul does not state. James 2:24, while saying “a person is justified by works and not by faith alone,” must be understood in context. Abraham’s justification occurred in Genesis 15:6, long before offering Isaac in Genesis 22. This timeline supports that justification before God is by faith alone, with works demonstrating faith’s authenticity. Ignoring this risks misrepresenting the broader biblical teaching. Claiming “faith and works are needed” undermines Christ’s finished work. Salvation is by grace through faith (Titus 3:5), not human cooperation. Christ’s declaration, “It is finished” (John 19:30), and Hebrews 10:14 affirm His sacrifice fully secures salvation, leaving no room for merit-based increases in grace or salvation. Your stance also contains contradictions. Paul and James both use Abraham to argue for justification by faith, yet your view fails to reconcile this. Additionally, faith without works is dead, but this refers to faith’s vitality, not its saving power. Works evidence faith but do not justify. Scripture consistently teaches justification by faith alone (Romans 4:5, Ephesians 2:8-9). Good works are the fruit of salvation-not its foundation. By conflating justification and sanctification, your position blurs their biblical distinction. While we agree good works are vital, they remain the fruit, not the root.
There church had a signage of Cross but they don't make sign of Cross to honor the cross where Jesus died and sacrifice. Where our sins has forgiven, where Jesus save us have mercy.
Yes and no. Even though the Ten Commandments were part of the Mosaic law, they are also part of the Eternal moral law. This is why they are reiterated in the New Testament as well, and the New Testament says we cannot get to heaven if we break them.
Asking how many works you need to be saved is a works based salvation. You're basing it on how much you do. That's not the role of good works. It's faith that saves you. But the only kind of faith that saves is one that lives itself out in love for christ, in obedience to his commandments, and in good works as he has commanded us to. And yes, can you lose your salvation. There are about 100 passages in the New Testament that teach this. Rom. 11:21-22
Almost. You almost had it. First, there's no such thing as being saved. There's no one-time moment of being saved in scripture. Second, yes it is true that we do good works because we love jesus, but the only kind of faith that saves is one that has good works and lives itself out for Christ. And stays faithful to the end in obedience.
@@CatholicTruthOfficialhow can say there is no such thing as being saved? That is whole notion of being a Christian is that we are saved through Jesus. This my issue with the Catholic Church you say you must all these things to be saved. When all you must do is confess with your mouth and heart that he is lord. Then our faith produces those good works. My mom was Catholic and her whole family they left the church and found Jesus. Realized you can have a relationship with him and approach his throne with grace and confidence.
@@coopertoprw8mu Bryan is saying that being saved is not a single point in our lives. Yes, we Christians believe in salvation through Jesus, but our salvation comes from our enduring faith in and good works for/obedience to Christ. Faith and obedience/good works are inseparable. Please consider James 2, especially James 2:18-24 : "18 Indeed someone may say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. 19 You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble. 20 Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works. 23 Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.” 24 See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone." Regarding the sacrament of confession, Jesus gave the Apostles the authority to hear confession and to forgive sins in His name: John 20:21-23 - Jesus says, “21 [Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”” In order for the apostles to exercise this gift of forgiving sins, the penitents must orally confess their sins to them because the Apostles are not mind readers. The text makes this very clear. And the Apostles are given the power and authority to forgive sins in Jesus' name. Matthew 18:17-18, if someone sins: "17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church.* If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. 18 Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." You and your family would enjoy watching the Coming Home Network, where Christians share their heartfelt experiences of coming to understand their faith more deeply, often through prayer and contemplation and reading the Early Church Fathers (see the Didache, Ignatius of Antioch, Irenaeus, Cyprian,...), to see what the early Church practiced and believed, including confession and the Real Presence of Jesus' body and blood in the Eucharist. Jesus established only one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. May God bless you and your family.
Eph 2:8,9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast
Coopertop, we agree that we are saved by Jesus. No Christian dounts that. However, Protestants can't agree on what that means. Are we saved at one moment once and forever and we can't lose our salvation? Most Protestants say no. Some say yes. Do we need baptism? Many Protestants say yes, many others say no. So, we all believe that Jesus saves, but what does that mean exactly? Protestants have not been able to answer that or agree on that in 500 years. It's not the Catholic church that says you have to do all of these things to be saved, it's the Bible. The Bible says we also need to be baptized, I live out our faith in good works, obey the commandments, bear good fruit and so on. Need some scripture verses? (Jn. 14:15, 21-24; Jn. 15:5-6, 7, 10, 14; Heb. 12:26-27; James 2:24; Rom. 11:21-22, 17-22; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:17-22; Jn. 3:5; Rev. 2:4-7, 10, 19-26, Mt. 25:31-46). God bless.
I both admire and resent John MacArthur. I admire him for standing up against the ravages of woke atheism, in stark contrast to our pathetic bunch of alleged bishops who are too gutless to stand up for their faith in the face of persecution. I resent him for what he says about Catholicism, not because he happens to have a different view of Christianity but because, like most preachers of his ilk, he doesn’t bother to check what the Catholic Church officially teaches about Christianity but instead debunks a caricature of Catholicism. Having said all that, he’s evidently a man of faith and of good will and I have no doubt he’ll be judged righteous by his God.
MacArthur is also a self-admitted Nestorian heretic. Many of the worst things that come out of his mouth are said simply to spite Catholics, regardless of the collateral damage. It is textbook cutting off the nose to spite the face.
I think he understands, but I also think at heart he is a businessman first, a minister second. The Catholic church and other Protestant denominations are competition to him. If his church loses a member to another church, he's lost income. I believe that's what is truly at the heart of him being so pessimistic about any other denomination other than his.
We are saved by Faith but if we have real Faith, then we believe that 'The Charity of God has been poured forth into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us' - Romans 5:5. Catholics believe that Charity is a Gift of God, not something you 'muster up' on your own: actually, this Gift of God is God Himself who dwells in our souls and works through us if we renounce evil and seek only to do His will, which is to do Good.
100% - every single reference - to our JUDGMENT BY GOD is over what we have done. Saved by faith is Kindergarten. A first step of the Christian toddler. Matthew 25:14-30. The slothful servant offered "faith alone" back to the Master. BAD PLAN.
@@HAL9000-su1mz The toddler analogy is excellent and I use it all the time: that's exactly what it is. Protestants believe they will go to Heaven just because they were born as Christians through Baptism but that's not how it works. You actually have to live out your life as a responsible adult! The good news is that it is GOD who does all the work: all we have to do is give our consent and allow HIm to work through us. It's not much but it is something and it's all that's required of us... Thank God, because if we had to 'Move (the) mountains' (of sin), no one would make it to Heaven! Faith, Justification, Sanctification and ultimate Salvation are all works of the Holy Spirit, not of Man.
@@HAL9000-su1mz Well, my friend, the beauty of it all is that once you've elected to do Good out of YOUR OWN FREE WILL, God who dwells in you by Grace can act 'through' you because it so happens that doing good is also what God wants to do. The 'trick', so to speak, is to elect to do that which is TRULY good - not necessarily what's in your best interest in this world... This is what's known as 'union' with God - and it's really that simple!

Praise God! So glad to hear it! May God bless you.
I am Soo happy to hear this!
I'm neither a Protestant nor a Catholic, but may I ask what brought you back specifically to the Catholic Church?

Pope McArthur has to denounce Catholicism
As soon as he admits the manna of the OT and Jesus’s insistence that the Eucharist is his body and blood, it’s game over for Protestantism.
1 Corinthians 11:27-34
"So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

What I didn’t realize is it wasn’t God that
wasn’t making sense to me, it was how I was taught about God.

He who will persevere unto the end is not he who will never fall, but he who after every fall will humble himself and rise again, relying on the infinite strength of God.”

That's a good point. It literally astounds me how many Protestants choose to be interactually dishonest rather than grappling with the truth. And they claim to worship a god of truth. Maybe you can inform us why that is. If baffling.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial
Let’s put it this way: when you’ve been taught to understand certain things in a certain way, you just don’t see these issues.
You need to understand that there’s a very thick and heavy theology in Calvinism, that intertwining many concepts together, explains away simple things in complex ways.
With me, there were a few things that did it:
1) Tradition: Protestants don’t accept it as authority, but accept the canon as an authoritative tradition… that was always strange to me.
Agreed!
Rich man: "How can I enter heaven?"
Jesus: "Obey My commandments."
There is no distinction between the “saved” and the “unsaved.”
“Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” (1 Cor. 3:15 KJV)
If works are unnecessary for salvation then are our works tested by fire upon judgement? In verse 15 how is a man saved (not just rewarded) through fire by a judgment of his works? He cannot be describing hell, because people are being saved there. He is not describing heaven, because there is imperfection being “burned up”.
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” (Matt. 7:1-3 KJV)
We are not judged just by faith, but actually how we judge others, and we get what we have given. Hence, we are judged according to how we responded to God’s grace during our lives.
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” (Matt. 10:22 KJV)
“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Matt. 24:13 KJV)
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Mark 13:13 KJV)
Jesus taught that we must endure to the very end to be saved. If this is true, then how can anyone believe in the erroneous teaching of “Once saved, always saved?”
If salvation occurred at a specific point in time when we accepted Jesus as personal Lord and Savior, there would be no need to endure to the end. We would already be saved.
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” (Matt. 16:27 KJV)
Jesus says He will repay every man for what he has done (works).
(Matt. 25:31-46 KJV)
Jesus’ teaching on the separation of the sheep from the goats is based on the works that were done during their lives, not just on their acceptance of Christ as Savior.
This is not necessary if we are “once saved, always saved.”
Rev.
Rev. 20:12 - “the dead are judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done.”
Rev. 22:12 - Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense, to repay everyone for what he has done.”
Sirach 16:12,14 - we are judged according to our deeds, and will receive in accordance with our deeds.

@@annabrahamson4320 No, Jesus told the rich man to sell all of his possessions because he made them his god.
Good for you, continue on your path of discovery and it will lead you to the Catholic Church.. ❤️🌎✝️God Bless!
I find Fartin' Robert Tilton to be FAR more entertaining.

Thank you for your comment and your thoughts on this. God bless. Please say a prayer for him.

Not of works means not work of our own growth or from ourselves but rather as from cooperation with grace of God which he freely gives us that we may do good works which he has prepared for us to do.
And also our faith is shown by our works as james says," show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works"( James 2:18).

Calvinism is a man made doctrine.
@@kylie3232 name a doctrine that is not man made?
Calvinists make God evil, especially with the wretched ideas of double predestination and substitutionary atonement. They believe that Christ burned in hell out of punishment and wrath, and that God The Father abandoned The Son on the cross.
@@uchihadabba699I understand more than the basic nature of Calvinism, and utterly reject it.
And the Eucharist too
He condemns himself. MacArthur has no divine given guidance to preach the word of god. He leads countless souks to hell. No salvation outside the church.
Faith alone makes what Jesus did for us cheap. Also if it's Faith alone then we don't have free will.
It's a false narrative. The priest doesn't call Jesus down but prays humbly and it's the Christ and Holy Spirit that makes the miracle happen.

It's sad that a highly intelligent man as John MacArthur would lose his way in spectacular mocking manner not just against our Popes but against our Blessed Virgin Mother above all.

Thank you for explaining
Thank you for this. I appreciate you and your work. God Bless

Hello! I guess you attributed to the quotation the wrong reference. I didn't find it on the Council of Trent Canon 7, but I found it on the Council of Trent Session 6 Chatper 8. Eph 2 :8&9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Amen! Bro. Brian.
The little I know about John MacArthur is from clips I see on various Catholic channels. Why would any real Christian listen to his bigotry. It’s obvious he has received so many blessings from God but uses them not to glorify God but to twist them to his own destruction. I will pray for his conversion.
This has been so good brain i love our catholic faith its so rich in tradition and history
1) dead faith or faith alone which does not produce hope, love, obedience and good works
2) living faith which produces hope, love, obedience and good works, therefore, a living faith is not faith alone.
Well said.
MacArthur isn't mistaken about Catholicism he's outright lying about it. He's out for the riches of the world.

God bless.
Salvation is not the beginning and end. It is only the beginning of a Christian life.
I'm sure there are more reasons why someone believes but then doesn't follow the _narrow path._
You are partially right in Catholics don't have a solid understanding of what a diverse group of Protestants believe when they say faith alone.

(James 2:24)
Stop Believing just what you want while closing your eyes and blocking your ears.
Protestantism is not just in Error , it is not Christian, in the first place

2. Works of the Law (what Paul condemns in Romans and Galatians)
Protestant pastors have to keep up the facade otherwise they'd have to give up their wealthy lifestyle and acknowledge the Catholic church is right.
There church had a signage of Cross but they don't make sign of Cross to honor the cross where Jesus died and sacrifice. Where our sins has forgiven, where Jesus save us have mercy.

I'm confused. Were the commandments not works of the law?
Yes and no. Even though the Ten Commandments were part of the Mosaic law, they are also part of the Eternal moral law. This is why they are reiterated in the New Testament as well, and the New Testament says we cannot get to heaven if we break them.
MacArthur is something else.....

How many works save?
Can you lose your Salvation?
Asking how many works you need to be saved is a works based salvation. You're basing it on how much you do. That's not the role of good works. It's faith that saves you. But the only kind of faith that saves is one that lives itself out in love for christ, in obedience to his commandments, and in good works as he has commanded us to.
And yes, can you lose your salvation. There are about 100 passages in the New Testament that teach this. Rom. 11:21-22
You don’t do good works in order to be saved. You do good works because you have been saved through your faith in God.
@@coopertoprw8mu Bryan is saying that being saved is not a single point in our lives. Regarding the sacrament of confession, Jesus gave the Apostles the authority to hear confession and to forgive sins in His name:
John 20:21-23 - Jesus says, “21 [Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
18 Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
You and your family would enjoy watching the Coming Home Network, where Christians share their heartfelt experiences of coming to understand their faith more deeply, often through prayer and contemplation and reading the Early Church Fathers (see the Didache, Ignatius of Antioch, Irenaeus, Cyprian,...), to see what the early Church practiced and believed, including confession and the Real Presence of Jesus' body and blood in the Eucharist.
25:31-46). God bless.
We are only justified by works of love ( how we treat the outcast). It’s completely different from works of the law.
It would take half a lifetime to debunk John MacArthur. Even so, I am still praying for his conversion to the Catholic faith.
You’re not giving MacArthur enough credit. He’s read, he understands - he just chooses not to accept.
He does NOT understand. His pride convinces himself he does understand and his ego drives him to convince his followers to blindly follow him. Sad.
Like body if have not soul is dead. Faith without works is dead.
MacArthur loves to judge others
Goes against the bible mat 7
@@superapex2128 Do we invite and cooperate or does God force it al on us? What about human virtue
@@superapex2128 TULIP? No thanks! You appear to be from one of the numerous forms of neo-belief, but I cannot figure out which. I simply obey Christ. via His Church. Simple. Peaceful. Graceful. Eternal.
This guy twists himself into a logical pretzel to explain away a clear theological disagreement between Paul and James. He’s not alone. Many armchair theologians think the many inconsistencies in the Bible will spontaneously disappear if they’re shouted at loud enough. The more spurious their arguments the more shrill their tone.
Everything we gave was clear, coherent, from Scripture, and consistent. Easily and clearly reconciled Paul and James. And you know we did which is why you can't and didn't even give one thing that we said wrong. You just didn't like what was said and so you ignored it to hold to your unbiblical Protestant beliefs. Once you're set free by christ, you won't need to do so many mental gymnastics.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial you just proved my point.
And you proved ours
I don't even know if it's possible to debunk MacArthur
We proved it's very possible. In three parts. We debunked every one of his claims with scripture, and history. Nobody can watch these videos and not see that he was debunked again and again. The problem is you didn't watch the video.
Guys like macarthur regurgitate their crap isn't because they misunderstand imo. They want to believe what they are saying, it's in their hearts. The more people who go his way validates in his mind he is right.
Forgot to add that macarthur's schtick is also a grift making him a lot of money.
Only like 14 million or so. 0_o
What's so funny is Prots the moment we quote James 2 they will throw back punch of versus that has nothing to do with faith alone. Book of James is a protestant nightmare 😂😅😂
