As far as American football goes its 100 yards or 91 meters. And im not sure for soccer/European football. As soon as you see the camera moving or a dynamic light change as took place in Cooper's shot, it is a pretty good indication that there isn't a green screen.

I really do feel sorry for the journalists and film crews that do have to go to conflict zones because if you look online you can find plenty of videos of them being shot at and sometimes even hit or in extreme cases killed(which happens too much :()
