- Going back to the IGN interview with Larian studio head Swen Vincke, we get some insight on what might be coming next, why they decided not to go forward with Baldur's Gate 3 DLC plans and some of the behind the scenes of how their production pipeline works.
What game would you like to see from Larian next? I'm holding out hope for a Divinity Original Sin 3

All i can ask from a studio these days is that they are honest, passionate, and courageous enough to follow the creative spark that makes video games come out of studios thats... thats a product of sheer love. I KNOW Larian will carry on that torch. Thank you Larian for holding such high integrity. Cant wait for the next one because i know its going to be great!
BG3 is one of my favorite games of all time, thanks to Larian’s storytelling and innovation. I can’t wait to see what they will do next with their own IP.
Same. I want to see what they do with all their lessons learned in the years developing and working on BG3
The characters were so well written and voiced that we're left wanting more.
whatever they´re making next, i´ll play it!
I absolutely LOVE Baldur's Gate 3, but I loved DoS 2 as well. BG3 was great for what it was and added to the already established lore in such an epic way. I feel it will be loved for a long time. I would be very happy to head back to the Divinity Series but I would be happy for something completely new as well. As it is right now, I trust Larian completely to make a great game.
I'll trust them until proven otherwise! DOS 2 was great, BG3 was phenomenal and quickly became my favorite RPG of all time so I can't wait to see what they do next.
First time on your channel.
You have great pacing, a good flow verbally, and solid editing with great transitions into excerpts you pulled from online.
Keep the formula and keep grinding. If I can tell the quality this early on, others are too. All you need is time.
Nevertheless I know you didn’t need to hear this advice either way but I know it’s nice to have someone reinforce something you’re already working so hard on. Thought I’d tell you
I very much doubt anyone can properly follow up on Larian's BG3, whether it'd be with a DLC or a 4th installement.
I enjoyed DOS1,, DOS2, and BG3. But they said their next instalments wouldn't be based on D&D, but if they leave the RPG medieval/fantasy genre I'm not sure i'll be making that trip.
If they do something Warhammer-esque, I don't think it'd be bad. Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader is one of my favorite CRPGs ever, and it's made by Owlcat who is known for their phenomenal Pathfinder (medieval/fantasy) games. The difference is that Owlcat does not have the budget of Larian.
@@High_Rate136 Yeah OwlCat does an awesome job, if WOTC was smart they would grab them to expand on BG3
Divinity IN SPACE!!!!!
Star Origin: Field :D
D.O.S.3 is almost certainly on Larian's agenda. What else though, it's hard to say.
Regardless I'm just a curious now as I was after D.O.S.2.
They said there will NOT be a D.O.S 3
@@vampiregoat69they confirmed DOS 3 is in the works but not announced.
Ild like them to get the KOTOR license.
You know what would be cool? A Baldur’s Gate game development engine, like SFM, G-Mod, and RPGMaker
We should have the power to create D&D campaigns, videos, and more with this kind of system
I really want Larian to tackle science fiction next, or hybrid sci-fi/fantasy.
I’d like to see a sci-fi/fantasy from them.
If they join the storytelling and character development of BG3 and expand on the combat mechanic of Divinity in one single game, that's Game of the Decade!
Larian is, for me, the most perfect creator of computer role playing game.... So i would like to know what they could possibly do with another major I.P. like "World of Darkness" ( Vampire : The Masquerade) .....they could do a so gigantic game with multiples endings, ways to play, perceptions of the world by your chosen clan or your decisions with a lot of NPC (supernatural and natural) maintaining the masquerade or break it ...Etc.
If they can have stories and characters to rival BG3… can’t wait! But if they could do a Space RPG they way they did BG3… or a Steampunk/ Horror/Jules Verne/Monster/Lovecraft in the BG3 way…
A pathfinder 2e based game would be great
Or a starfinder game.
me and my homies hate pathfinder 2e
(1e superiority)
@gregtechnewhorizons I like both, but 1e doesn't work in a video game without being simplified. I love the customization of 1e, but the bones of the system are too clumsy. I don't know which system I prefer, and I enjoy both of Owlcat Games 1e pathfinder games, but I know 2e is a better fit for a video game.
@@colinrobertson7580I played both Kingmaker and Wrath and they are great games. But after a few levels it becomes (starting on core difficulty) very useful (and later necessary) to spend a few minutes buffing after rest or before a harder fight. I later (after 2 playthroughs of wrath) found mods for autobuff (no cheating - just quick application of buffs) and later playthroughs were much more enjoyable.
I'd love them to pick up where they left off with Divinity Fallen Heroes, but honestly, whatever they make, I'm there
I would like to see them do something out of the fantasy setting like starfinder for scifi or call of Cthulhu or Candela Obscura for a eldritch horror setting.
Also worth noting that Sven indicated that their next game will introduce a combat mechanics feature they want for their "the RPG to dwarf them all" project so they're clearly working toward something their current engine can't handle in terms of combat and they want to refine that in the next game.
My guess is something to do with modified physics (i.e. different levels of gravity) or firearm style weapons... or in other words they want to do something sci-fi. I could be wrong but my guesses will be based on that assumption... so for their next game I'd guess a Divinity game set either in the future or featuring different planes of reality, then for their "RPG to dwarf them all" I'd guess a long forgotten sci-fi IP such as Buck Rogers or John Carter of Mars.
I certainly didn't hear any skepticism about BG3 when it was revealed (aside from other publishers doing their best to degrade it). Larian had proven that they could make good games before, games that were similar enough to BG that there was little reason to suddenly think they'd drop the ball on what was obviously a passion project for them.
There was definitely a vocal minority complaining about the turn based combat and saying it just looks like DOS3. Basically all complaints said it doesn’t look like a Baldur’s Gate game
Arcanum 2: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Leaving on a high note and not milking a success for decades to come with copy and paste clones? Is this a modern video game company?
Also, Vincke hinted in an interview that their next game might be a sci-fi space game.
I want beautiful combat with many styles all fun to watch and play. Barbaric, Martial Arts, Kung Fu (Tiger, Snake, Crane, etc), Sneaky Thief, Drunken Master, Knight, 2 handed, One handed, Polearms, Staff Styles, No armor, light armor, Heavy Armor. Same system but different styles with their pros and cons. Same for magic and or psionics.
Also Space Explore game and a Divinity / D&D scenario would be awesome.
New from Larian: Barrelmancer
Thanks for your thoughts. DOS 3 will probably be the 2nd game..... But for next game I have a feeling it will be Sci-fi(ish). Peace
Swen is the damn GOAT. I'll play whatever the man makes.
I would love to see them team up with Weta workshop and do a lord of the rings game
I love Larian games, from Divine Divinity onwards (and I've had no existential moments). Hope it's a new Divinity game.
For Baldur’s Gate IV maybe Hasbro should consider letting Obsidian Entertainment have a go, they’ve a proven track record in the D&D genre.
In five years I'll be playing something great.
New game based on H.P. Lovecraft's works? Call of Cthulhu maybe?
A game by them set in a Warhammer-esque setting would be amazing!
If another studio takes on DnD then they need to be prepared to offer an early access and to actually listen to the fans. For me they also need to be able to tell stories.
Larian's success is in the characters, the story telling, the voice acting. The risk in them working outside of the constraints of DnD or any other system, is that they may just go too wild. Rules that you have to abide by and work within, are necessary.
I do not want a Divinity Sin 3, the characters and the world do not appeal to me, but I would have said the same about a DnD game, before BG3. So I could be swayed. But Swen has talked, I believe, of a space game. Lots of options there, but equally lots of competition and pitfalls. I jokingly suggested Factorio 3, as Wube are another "good" developer. But maybe that is not practical.
Whatever it is, Larian, like Wube, have through their honesty with the playing community, assured themselves that I will buy, whatever they produce next. I trust them to produce something good.
lol Mediocre Studios and the phrase "good story telling" don't ever belong in the same sentence. BGIII's Third Act was a dumpster fire of terrible story telling. Thank god they decided to not make any further dlcs for it.
@@corporateturtle6005 Care to suggest a game with good storytelling, if you think BG3 was so bad.
Um Bg2. I know its old but still holds up. They did Jaheira and Minsc dirty as well. I think they should of called this Never Winter Nights instead. It really didnt feel like a Bg2 sequel. Also wasnt realtime and broke many 5e rules to make the game so called more fun for the general playerbase. Its too easy even on Tactician and Honor mode. Such a good game but so many flaws. Im not sure why its praised so highly. Im bitchin yet have almost 500 hours. Same goes for my bg1, 2 , icewindale, planescape torment which in my opinion blows almost every game in existence for story. Go play it if you dont believe me. Im gonna go finish another honor mode playthrough now tho seeya lol.
I would love a new IP with a steampunk/fantasy setting. I’m sure they could work wonders with the freedom the technology and magic would bring.
I think it is going to be a science fantasy RPG.
As a creator myself I want to see them create something totally new and their own. Thier own IP they can create from and not be bound to anyone. Like I am. As always loved it!
If you're a creator, you need to start a new channel or no one's gonna play your games. If your "creation" is your RUclips channel, please find a different word. Sorry not sorry
First off my company has its own channel and since I am not playing the vertical slice game you might be right. I mean if you went to this channel there is nothing about games at all. People whom troll and rush to judgement ext normally arent ever sorry. It's ok I am not either. Rando comments have no impact on my work and people whom haven't even seen it giving me advice is a water bucket with not bottom thanks for the input!@@brettmiller3854
@@brettmiller3854 "I'm a creator too!". Sure, Jan.
I'm kind of playing n+1 ver of BG3 now. Sdh, Laz, W, Je, Kar... not in my camp completely but I don't feel lack of anything. Infact, when playing with full main companies, it's overwhelming to me and the story is a bit heavy, somehow I feel more enjoyable with 3p. Because of this ver, I was a bit shocked when saw Laz's corpse and a death warlock looks so much like Wyll (but not him). It give me a different feeling when trying n+1, that's how BG3 is great to me beside its combat & colorful story also art style, music and characters... seems like everything 😅
I love all Larian Studio games all of them D&D games and turn base games i love them so much
I'm pissed that their is no DLC and that BG3 is dead and will have no expansions. I really wanted to see more of the underdark or other interesting content I blame Hasblow
I think they fucked up and look arrogant now. I get not making bg4. But no xpac wtf. I feel like there is more to this and we wont learn until later.
@@javvyjavvy Larian has never made DLC for any of their previous games. They even said when BG3 was in EA, they were not looking to do DLC. They were thinking about it when BG3 was a bigger success than they hoped but decided to go back to their old plan.
@@neurolancer81 they made an amazing game and no dlc or xpac. Im gonna say this again its freaking weird. They are not going to recreate this same experience again without Dnd or forgotten realms carrying them . Divinity 2 is decent but its not bg3 or 2 or 1 or icewindale or planescape torment.
@@javvyjavvy DoS2 was not as big or as polished but it was an amazing hit. It sold better than other CRPGs of its era. It beat the OWLCAT games and the PoE games. So no, I disagree that DnD or Forgotten Realms are needed for their success. A large proportion of people who played BG3 knew nothing about DnD or Forgotten Realms before. So, if BG3 was set in another fantasy universe, it would’ve been equally successful IMO.
@@neurolancer81 ive played both and i really enjoy DO2. It doesnt come anywhere near bg3 or the others thpugh . I wish Larian the best of Luck. Hope they do well on the next game. So much i want to say here.
Kind of hope they just dont make another bg and leave it alone. If Ea or some other mainstream company does it will just get tons of Microtransactions.
It would be super dope if Larian was able to acquire the Fallout license and take it back to its roots!
I don't think it will be a DOS3, but it will be divinity universe. Honestly may be a beyond divinity 2 game but with normal turn base we are use to. I think the 2nd will be something in the vain of divinity: dragon commander
I'd like to see them make a good Shaowrun game. Or Vampire the Masquerade. Both are TTRPGs like DnD but yet fastly different. Both are in dire need of a good game and Larian can deliver on that.
Oh man, Shadowrun with Larian's storytelling would be epic
The latest version of Vampire the Masquerade is in an even worse state than D&D. I would love a Larian game set in the 20th Anniversary edition of Vampire since it is my favorite tabletop. However given how much the Larian felt constrained by their partners at Hasbro, I do not see them working with a company like Paradox who own the IP for Vampire.
There are only 2 stdios that I'd trust with a new BG game, Both studios have released some really good CRPGs in the last years. I'm not sure if either of them is willing to take the risk though because they have some huge boots to fill here.
These studios are either Obsidian (Pillars of Eternity) or Owlcat Games (the Pathfinder games and Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader).
That said: A possible Baldur's Gate 4 doesn't have to be exactly like BG3 - it just has to be good.
About Larian's next game - unless they entirely depart from making RPGs (which I seriously doubt because that's what they do and what Swen wants to do) I'll buy their next game. I don't care about the setting too much as long as the characters are compelling and the story is good but here are a few things I would really like:
- DOS 3 (obviously)
- A Warhammer Fantasy game would be nice
- something Lord of the Rings related
- a brand new SciFi IP
You mentioned Bioware a company whose Dragonage games Ive played more than once, Did you know that BIoware has a new Dragonage game coming out?
Yup! I'm excited and I've made quite a few videos about it.
WOTC will trash BG3 trying to maintain it or trying to mod it. I can't wait to see what Larian does next. I expect them to pre-release their next games like they did with BG3.
I would love, love love DOS3, but honestly I'd be willing to try anything they decide on. They're literally the only company right now that I'd be willing to throw money at an early access/crowd fund for. As long as they don't break that trust I'll stick with them. As long as they're authentic, transparent and maintain their integrity.
It wont be DOS3 but i can Guarantee that it will be Divinity universe game with a different name!
I want a front mission type game
I’d love to see a fallout/fallout tactics game in the style of bg3
Larian said that they wyll dwarf the bg3 content, willing to pay double the price of bg3 for that next game
He quickly clarified that it wouldn't dwarf BG3, joking that he must have been very jetlagged or misquoted. There's no telling what the games will be in scope but he did say in response to that comment something along the lines of "BG3 is big enough."
@@RedbeardflynnRollsAOne Not entirely - i did say that he wants to make a game that dwarfs them all, BG3 included.
But he made absolutely clear that their next game will only be another step towards this big game. He also said that he thinks they still lack the tech to make the game he has in mind.
a Brothers Grimm fantasy setting taking you through the ORIGINAL story lines or how about a STARGATE type game?
or.............. BRING BACK DUNGEON KEEPER (updated of course)?
I wish they somehow get their hands on Shadowrun IP and make a wonderful shadowrun game.
New genre for Larian but it has real potential. I'd love a Larian take on KOTOR as well, love some lightsabers.
I could be wrong, but I believe it was stated they will not be producing a Divinity 3 game at this time. It's interesting to hear this/these game(s) predate BG3. My guess was based off an interview mentioning the next game will be "familiar but not BG in any way nor Divinity for the foreseeable future", was that they were going to make a Critical Role game seeing as how the studio worked with all the cast in previous works as well as Critical Role breaking out into their own game setting it would not be a far leap to assume a game would be coming soon.
Add to the fact that Hasbro is potentially being bought out, no new games would be made as they cannot be promised to continue with a new company. Just how Fox being bought out by Disney destroyed a lot of projects in the works at that time.
yes I remember him saying it won't be D&D or Divinity, but something familiar. I honestly think their RPG to dwarf all RPGs is going to be DOS3 (Sven's Swansong before he retires), but this next one not sure if they got another known IP, Like Call of Cthulhu or Shadowrun, or if they are doing another homebrew IP that will be familiar because it will feel like a Larian game......Either way I'm stoked to see what they do next
I am hopeful to see Divinity 3…. And perhaps tackle the start of a first person franchise that actually topples Elder Scrolls/Skyrim.
Actually would love a sci-fi game by Larian
same
No it has nothing to do with the limitations of 5e. They didnt want to keep working with hasboro particularly since they layed off a bunch of people in the dungeons and dragons that Larian worked with.
I'd like to see another Dragon Commander game. I really enjoyed the RTS/Visual Novel feel it had and would love more.
The only thing i don't like about this game is the companion approval system.
It forces players to always choose the "right" dialogue option in order to gain the approval points, thus making all other dialogue options inferior and taking the natural flow away from conversations.
I hope they go away from this in future games.
wild card - the next game is a new Ultima.
I love the d&d system plus I am a massive fan of the realms. But I didn’t like the divinity class system I really couldn’t get along with it. I could never be interested in completing dos2 but bg3 on my second play through. I hope as new projects maybe lord of the rings or a brand new fantasy series similar to d&d or LOTR.
My money is on survival/crpg. You have to eat.
Larian should buy the licence and make the elder scrolls 6
Maybe a game that takes place in another galaxy with some humanoids and lots of aliens. Perhaps a multi dimension, 3 acts 3 different worlds where our heroes explore, adventure and battle their way through to try to make it home. Really it could be anything.lol
It would be interesting to see Larian collaborate with manga artists to make an anime style tactical turn based sandbox style rpg.
Yergh ! Leave those stupidly oversize weapons where they belong.....elsewhere.
Space exploration - fine, dinosaur world - fine, post apocalyptic world - fine, Time traveller adventure - fine (pairs well with Dinosaur world), detective game (especially a paranormal detective like John Constantine) - fine, sci-fi - fine. Lots of different opportunities..............but leave the pointy-chinned Japanese heroes where they belong.
Lmao please anything but that cringe
He said they'd 2 ideas before BG3 and obviously DoS3 was one of them. What's the other, is more interested to me. I wish it's a sandbox MMO RPG.
Lmao I don’t think you know what goes into an MMORPG compared to other games
@@thgcgnbcgn2391
I'm not game developer. I won't pretend I know.
I actually not want BG4. i wanted a DND game that have multiple campaign base of the books.
But we know we don't get more DnD from them. And that was a wasted potential. I don't realy care about Divinity (Cuz i "rage" quit after the first map.... f*king door....)
So i expecting something new but i hope thy gonna do new RPGs.
Neverwinter nights 3!
DoS3 I hope
I'd like to see what they can do with a genre shift. My favorite genre is sci-fi and it would be great if they could do a story of their own. That said, any original story regardless of genre will do at this point. I am sick of sequels, remakes and remasters.
My guess is they will tackle lord of the rings next.
1) Larian release a video with elijah wood and sean austin playing bg3
2) He said his next project will 'dwarf them all'. Very similar to one ring to rule them all
That would be a dream scenario
A Dragonbane CRPG? With Mallards as a playable, voiced kin? Yes please.
I dont need them changing DnD. Create the amazing story with the rules we enjoy. I think Larian is being a bit arrogant here. Who knows though maybe they are going to do even better. If it wasnt Bg3 though i would of never played it. BG3 blew Divinity away because its DnD. Hope they dont mess up there next project. Im sure all the Divinity fans are going to love it .
They didn’t say D&D was bad, they said it wasn’t the easiest to implement as a video game.
@@neurolancer81 they also said they could make it more fun, its like spitting in the dnds creators faces. They could implement it if they want they are just being lazy. They implemented 2.5 20+ years ago without all the new tech they have now.
They just made a rediculous amount of money as well. I call bullshit. You cant be this naive man.
@@javvyjavvy They don’t like DnD 5e as a game system to implement all the things they wanted to. Thats not a radical thought. They are not spitting in the face of the DnD creators, they just don’t like the system as a basis for what they want to create. How hard is that to understand?
@@neurolancer81 i dont see it that way. It comes off as disrespectful but thats just me. I wish Larian the best of luck also. They just seem super arrogant now. Will see how they do. Im oldschool though sir.
I wonder if they're going to be picking up their Divinity xcom game that got shelved for everyone to work on BG3
i chose Divinity Original Sin 3 and Builder Gate 4 or Divinity Original Sin 3 and Divinity Original Sin 4 look even now after your video I go play Divinity Original Sin 2 to end it once again as Fane after Elden ring and dark soul this two-game my favorite games all-time yeh I play other stupid game but 4 games I play them for 3 years Divinity Original Sin and builder gate 3 and Elden ring and dark souls I play Warcraft 3 reforge I hope to see Divinity Original Sin 3 if they do not make Divinity Original Sin I hope they make the new game just like Builder gate 3 maybe Pillars of Eternity 3 on turn base by larian studio ?
I wouldn't play a Divinity 3. I'm still struggling to get into 1 and 2. They're just not as gripping as BG3 was.
BG3 was always a marketing move for Larian, sure they made a great game but I don't think it's a great sequel. Sven is also pretty set in his ways regarding is vision wich is good for their games and IPs but not while making a sequel. I'm pretty sure the next game will be another turn based RPG, they want to keep iterating on their success and I think it's a good thing.
You lost Isobel, how dare! Lose a Level!
I wish Larian would work on Arcanum.
Now THAT I could get behind. Love that weapon and armour crafting.
👽
sci fi? i dont want them to do the same turn base combat and with only 4 players i want 6 or atleast 5 !!!
Elder scrolls
Since larian likes doing it nowadays. They will take a random title, and turn it into a divinity-like game. let's say for the sake of comedic value. HALO, and make it an rpg like divinity original sin.
Cuz baldurs gate 3 was never an actual baldurs gate game.
So, yeah, they will probs just follow the trend since it worked so well now.
So, I can't wait for that Divinity original Halo.
Or how about I dunno, Half- divinity original life 3.
Don't get me wrong, their games are great, but they just make divinity titles. That's it.
But… even their Divinity titles are different. They have DOS 1 and 2, but they also have an ARPG like Diablo, a third person RPG, and even a RTS. So they’ve made loads of different kinds of games for a pretty young studio. Not sure what you mean
Awful take that has not looked at Larian's games.
@@NeverUseAnApostrophe I love having awful takes. I do it so you don't have to.
Considering DOS 1 and 2 sucked and I am having difficulty getting immersed in BG3 due to the Larianization of the classic franchise, I am not excited at all about their future projects.
If this was not Baldurs Gate, I would never have bought it, even being set on Faerun
Typical gamer L.
@@NeverUseAnApostrophe What is a gamer L? Is it some online gaming jargon? I don´t play online games. I used to play LAN games, Quake, Unreal 1, Half Life 1, etc.

Larian took a great franchise and made it better IMO. I was equally as excited for this as I was for BG2 coming out and I’m glad they did what they did. Sad to see they won’t be continuing.
@@neurolancer81 I don't think it's better. There are too many immersion breaking design flaws.
I will definitely not buy bg3 expansion or bg4 from the force woke hasbro. For me dnd is dead sadly. After 30 years I need to put Larian was the last light for dnd. it in the grave.
I just hope they do something that gets rid of turn based combat.
Nah. Its great combat. Requires planning and its super fun. Elden ring and others are doing a great job in real time combat. This genre is just different.
Nah the combat system is awesome, and finally something new
