Whatever larian makes I'll buy if the quality they put into new games is as equal to bg3 quality. which I'm sure it will be ❤

1000% Agree. Its interesting that my most anticipated RPGs are ones I know nothing about atm just because they're from Larian. Used to be Bioware did that for me, now its Larian!

They’ve done it with all their previous products too. The divinity series is the main reason I funded BG3 early access

You don't have to look at BG3 for quality from Larian Studios. Just play their Original Sin l and ll series. That'll convince you ❤.

The original Gothic 1 (and 2) was characterised by 2 things: Jank, and one of the most immersive Action RPG worlds ever created. The relatively small playing area is chock full of interesting NPCs to interact with, and nooks and crannies to explore. All while following it's own ruleset, which is communicated to the player character and not the player. For example, multiple NPCs will tell you to avoid the forests early on, guiding you around instead. And if you ignore their warnings, you will very quickly get eaten by wolves (or worse).
The only maps you'll ever get are ingame items with fairly crude depictions of the game world.
The series has a special place in my heart and I'm naturally wary of the remake, even though I like what I've seen so far.

@@IDontKnowYouWhoAreYou It is with almost 100 % certainty turn based because that's what Larian enjoys and wants to make. The devs, including Swen himself, have said that multiple times.
Larian has already made an action based game as well btw - Divinity II: Ego Draconis (and its expansion pack Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance, the only expansion pack Larian has done). They where not too happy about the game afterwards which is why they returned to turn based games ever since (except their one and only game that is not an RPG: Divinity: Dragon Commander is an RTS).
Besides - there are sooooooooooo many action based games out there, we REALLY don't need more of that.

  • @Hauke-ph5ui

Man I loved Gothic 1 and 2 (Gothic 3, while still enjoyable, just didn't have the same vibe).
The characters are great, the setting is brutal at the beginning (you leave the town, go 3 steps into the wrong direction and boom you're wolf fodder). Which makes it all the more satisfying when you slowly start to manage and are able to take on more dangerous enemies.
Not to mention that the game doesn't have level based zones.
I remember one situation from my first playthrough: I was comparatively low level and exploring a wood near the settlement. I felt very proud that I was able to (carefully) clean out the packs of wolves and scavengers roaming the area when I noticed something larger moving between the trees in the distance. Being super confident in my abilities I went to explore and....the next thing I saw was the Game Over screen. So, what had happened? I had met my first Shadowbeast, a high level monster.
But aside from the sometimes brutal difficulty - the game is never unfair. You always get warning signs or can see the potential danger from afar and then decide if you want to explore.
And the story of Gothic 1 in particular is unique.
The game world is just super immersive. One example: You want a map? Go find one. Or (in Gothic 2) cough up the coin to buy one from the cartographer - and he ain't cheap, at least for the early game (as usual coin is less of a problem in the later game). Depending on the source of the map there might also be small differences. The Open World is done right as well: It's size is not bloated and you find something to explore everywhere, you don't have large areas of nothingness.
I'm one of the people who explored the worlds of Gothic 1 and 2 to the very last corner, collecting everything, clearing every cave or ruin (the original games had no respawn - you defeated an enemy, it stays dead. Respawn was tied to reaching milestones in the story instead).

Best things about Gothic were: immersion, exploration, progression, vibes. When you play you become part of the world and forget your worries. In other games you are just gaming, but gothic you feel like you live there. There is no there RPG that rewards you from exploring the map as much as Gothic 1 and 2 the second probably even more. Progression was very meaningful and obvious, unlike games like dark souls where you don't really feel much change from leveling and acquiring new items. And just in general all the design choices, especially the music, make the game feel like something special.

I came upon Gothic 1 several years after its release as I never heard of it before. The game still rates for me as one of the top 10 of my favorite RPGS. Yes the graphics were dated and a bit blocky and the controls were a mess (took some time getting use to) but the story was extremely immersive, the plot unique with a lot of depth. It is the first only game where skeletons were downright lethal even at mid level. Pyranha Bytes the studio that produced the game no longer exists so let's hope this studio does it right and actually releases it.

Well Avowed does need a lot more polishing before a final release. The last thing Obsidian need is a broken glitchy mess upon release.

Exactly. Their reputation of "broken glitchy mess upon release" is well deserved which is a shame because they make some very fine games -- after multiple patches fix said glitchy mess.
