The finest soldiers of his time. IBB couldn’t lace his shoes. An honest man who could have put discipline in the heart of the country. Tunde created Buhari’s reputation without any doubt and we can now see how awful Buhari was without someone like Tunde Idiagbon. It was said that Buhari was brought to power by Idiagbon because he was a visible Fulanis who could reassure Fulanis that the removal of Shagari was not targeted at them. I always wondered what became of him and his family after I left Nigeria in 1986 till date. Thanks for the summary of this great statements man!

Idiagbon's regime was the best regime Nigeria ever had. The muslim Caliphates in Nigeria colluded with Britain, and Saudi Arabia and removed Idiagbon's govt. His regime stopped all the lootings by foreign organizations, and demanded equal respect for Nigeria and her citizens worldwide, as Nigeria gave same to foreign nationals and organizations inside Nigeria. He meted death penalty to drug traffickers, long jail terms for mismanaging or embezzling government funds. He was a very honest man and an exceptionally disciplined soldier. Europeans hated him because he did not allow them to defraud Nigeria. Life was not harder on the people, as a matter of fact. he implemented programs that caused prices of essential commodities to drop and be affordable. There was food surplus. He encouraged that Nigerians produced the product we used, Naira appreciated in value on daily basis in the international market. Had the man remained in the office for another three years, Nigeria would've been far better than many countries in Western Europe, today. He was a genius.

@@JafaruAdokutu I didn't mislead anyone what I wrote was a fact. The initiative of all the programs implemented was, for the most part, spearheaded by Idiagbon. Buhari been the head of State was and even now not brilliant, he was a figure head then, just like he was in the two terms he recently served as an elected president. Back to 1983, Had Idiagbon made it back to the office from Mecca, chances were that Bihari would have been ousted by Idiagbon, anyway, due to Buahari's involvement in the 2.8 Billion Naira stolen under Buhar's watch at NNPC, If I may remind you, immediately Buhari and Idiagbon toppled Shagari, Chief Awolowo' residence and home office were ransacked by the Nigerian Army, and Chief Awolowo's manifestos he drafted, should he had won the election, was stolen by the Military. One of the items on his manifesto was changing the currency, which Idiagbon implemented.

When the then Military Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo handed over power to President Sheu Shagari in 1979, there was a memo in the handing over note about repositioning the military. The report contains a recommendation that all military officers who had occupied political positions in the past should be retired from the military. President Sheu Shagagri ignored the report. Those recommended for retirement include General Mohammadu Buhari, General Tunde Idiagbon, General Ibrahim Babangida, and General Sanni Abacha. President Sheu Shagari complained that most of the senior officers recommended for compulsory retirement are Hausa/Fulani. It was the same people that later destroyed the Second Republic and our economy through coups d'état.

The way General Idiagbon had the WAI war against Indiscipline was a principle based approach to riding the country of corruption which would have worked far better than EFCC which is rules based anticorruption and post mortem. Had Idiagbon continued and Wai matured there would have been no need for ICPC and EFCC and the value system we have in Nigeria which is the root cause of systemic corruption would have been decimated all the way.

Not corrupt, extremely disciplined. Respected inside and outside military as a very upright man. He was a Fulani and Yoruba man. The best ruler of Nigeria and he was killed by the cabal in Nigeria. May God grant his soul eternal rest.

@@WW24343 He was poisoned with a cup of tea when he went to visit Obasanjo when OBJ wanted to consult with him and appoint him to investigate abandoned contracts and other high crimes by the elite . He was such a courageous man. This should be sometime in 1999/2000. The best ruler, even though I don't like the Military, but Nigeria at that time and even now needs a character like Idiagbon to salvage her.
