Mini velos - damn cute and damn practical 😍How would you build up the Neutrino, or would you rather stick with big wheels thank-you-very-much? Let us know below! 💪
What happened to the Cannondale Hooligan? Seems like it's discontinued :( That was a rad bike, yet cost as much as the frame of this one... Another option is the Csepel Royal Frisco, probably the cheapest minivelo you can buy today (for about ~350 EUR in a bike shop in Hungary).
I just got my first mini velo and it's sooooo good for city life. Really easy to navigate through little alleyways and pedestrian gates; and it's really nippy and agile, which is great for weaving into spaces on tight city streets when cars need to overtake. Was going to get a Dutch style bike, but so glad I opted for this. I'm also only 5'2" and standard bikes tend to feel like boats for me.
I own a mini-velo as my only bike :) Internally geared hubs are the way to go whit small wheels. A standard drive train will get dirty crazy quick when it sits low.
@@paulc43 I had the Hooligan too. The inter-3 hub is very draggy. I only used the 2nd gear. I also disliked the EBB that gets very stuck and is hard to adjust. I went with 10-speed derailleur. Two flys with one hit kind of deal. Still with short cage the derailleur was very close to the ground. I sold it when I got my Moulton with 2-speed IGH.
I'm waiting for my frameset to be delivered. Going to build a 1x10 dropbar commuter to carry right into my office kind of bike. With fenders, lights and everything!
Not offended, not upset, completely delighted, Jack, by your presentation of this quirky street bike. And for sure I see the benefits of this, one of which is a smaller bike is easier to get up the stairs or in the back of a car. And if I had one, it would be a bright color, like orange or yellow or something fun--something that says, I gotta be me, I just gotta be me.
I built a mini velo - Dahon Smooth Hound out of parts I had from a 20" folding bike (recycling) to play with the kids... It is so good that I'm going to build another one out of spares I took of bikes I upgrades over the last few years...
Interesting bike. I like how the handling of the bike isn't compromised like other small folding bikes. I'd buy it to use on camping trips and short grocery trips. Good review, thanks!
I recently treated myself to a 22inch mini velo, 7-speed Shimano Geared, added a front rack, pasted over some funky stickers and it’s honestly the most practical bike i have ever had in my whole 26 years on this planet. NOTICE ME SENPAI.
Love the bike. It's something I've always dreamed of owning, a bmx bike with gearing. Being from MD, me and Velo Orange, is just icing on the cake. Price is a bitch but so is everything else in the cycling world. Can't wait to put my order in for one when I've proper funding 😅
Absolutely enjoyed watching. It's my first time on your channel. That's a nice bike. Nice handle bars. I don't usually like front baskets on bikes, but on this one, I make an exception. Really nice basket. I like the shape and height -- not too high. And I don't mind the funny t-shirt and the yellow neckerchief. And it's not stupid.. It's not what you wear -- it's who's wearing it -- You can get away with anything. Enjoyed the humor as well. Stay safe. God Bless & Protect us all. (Liked & Subscribed)
I would like to see these and other commuter bikes have handlebars that can be rotated 90 degrees in order to save storage space, as well as folding pedals. They could probably make it cheaper by including the basket and eliminating some of the braze-ons as well as offering it in a 3 speed for short commuter jaunts. At $2400, it is more expensive than the latest electric vanMoof X3!
I ride a MiniVelo (a Bianchi, not a VO) in the crazy Phnom Penh traffic and it is so easy to nip in and out of tight spaces. It is a huge amount of fun too.
Jack you should review the Neutrino's utilitarian French cousin - Le Petit Porteur. 20 inch cargo mini velo! I have a VO Polyvalent & Campeur, both great bikes.
I think that these mini-velds do have one huge advantage that sets them apart from pretty much every other bike design which is: rider-height adjustability. This plus the fact that they take up so little space, makes them the ideal lender bikes in my opinion. What other type of bike out there can be lent to a friend who is 5'2" one day, and 6'2" the next? (Sorry, I'm not sure what those heights would be in "new money.")
I see similar bikes all the time, so not that original (I live in Vienna). Still I think it's kinda cute and could be fairly practical (the price kills it).
Nice bike. Odeasea make really good rim brakes for bmx now called evo. id love a frame like this that had more compatability with bmx parts like the forks cranks ect. Cheap strong parts, why not take advantage?
I've got a full stable and no reason to have this. Doesn't make me want it any less. Put S&S couplers on that bad boy and it'd all fit in a chrome bag!
Gr8 video! Just like famous Manchester United soccer player Eric Cantona was rumoured to play with hill collar up due to a tattoo of his old club Leeds United, does Luke wear a neck tie to cover his affiliation Mountain Biking UK mag? I remember Luke riding with Rob Warner in Chainspotting on a 26inch Orange Ms Isle, the best era for XXXtreme trails. Thx Luke y2k.
Ok, I gotta admit...for the first time, the bike out-hipstered the Original Hipster. That bike deserves its own neckerchief!!! what a beautiful bike, what a ridiculous price. But given how often this bike is out of stock on the VO site, good for the company!! If you get a chance, review the Piolet or the new Polyvalent. :)
Great bike, love the styling. And disc brakes on a 20" wheel looks awesome but get the price down to the sub $1500 range. Only other thing I'd change is maybe a larger front chain ring.
I'd probably put a rear rack with tiny panniers for clothes so when I visit my brother, we can meet up half-way and we'll load up the bike on the sedan's trunk on the way home.
Nice review. Nice video especially the slow pan shots (6:39). Fun to watch. The bike company should pay you (just a personal opinion). Thanks for sharing. Liked & Subscribed. Nice channel name: BikeRadar.
Totally agree! Better looking frame, virtually maintenance-free planetary hub and very nice lefty fork. Would love to have belt instead of chain on it.
Almost certainly. It has generous clearance for 2.3" tyres. That would be 522mm diameter on a 406 rim. A 451 with 28c tyres comes in at 507mm, so you'd have some space to play with.
What ding dong thought this would be worth 2,400 dollars ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Points for madness, but they end up in the negative with price madness.
@@ME-hm7zm Lost their minds expensive. We send our chicken to China to be slaughtered because it is cheaper. We don't use our own catfish, because it is cheaper to get it from Vietnam. These guys probably have to get their steel from overseas. Just not worth 2400 made anywhere.
Dude you can get a folding brompton for $1000, that's a reasonable price. This thing is a joke. Especially because his reason for liking it is because he lives in a small space, well the brompton has this thing beat in that aspect by a long mile plus it's $1000. For $2400 you can get a Canyon Neuron full suspension bike, wtf is this company thinking? You can get a full carbon and actually really nice road bike for price of this thing.
Seems expensive considering I bought a folding electric from Marshalls (clothing dept store) for $500 the other winter. A little small for me, considering a bigger seat tube and at limit of 250W rear motor. Maybe a hybrid between the two, over a time, but still caught at the cost(s). Similar 20" wheels, yeah finding even tubes with turned valve stem since motor makes huge hub for small wheels. Small wheels and need to ride different, if by habit could do a pothole with 26"MTN, Face Plant on these small wheels.. bagged similar without motor and carried as way back for motorcycle dropoff. Can stow in a car, like during a meal, but watch tires overinflated in heat. Ymmv
I think there is no point in having small wheels and then attach the front rack to the fork. *SMACK in the head* Why not USE the really long headtube to attach the rack to it!
I agree. If this needs $2400 to make it enjoyable, I'd rather spend twice that and get a Moulton XTB. Yeah, it's expensive, but people on these channels gladly spend a fortune every few years for bikes that are one-trick ponies.
hi, very intimate question here, what is your size ? I mean height... please in cm... Is this cute bike suitable for a 1.80 m ( I know, let's say 180 cm ) guy ? thanks in advance
Mini velos - damn cute and damn practical 😍How would you build up the Neutrino, or would you rather stick with big wheels thank-you-very-much? Let us know below! 💪
I'd put the basket on the rear for stability and handling porpouses while carrying stuff around. and changed the price. daaaaanng that price.

I own a Moulton and love it to bits! So there probably won't be a neutrino in my near future. Small wheels + suspension =
@@gaborkulcsar5270 Hooligan is over built aluminum frame so it's extremely stiff and uncomfortable bike. I had it. I sold it.

I'm 5-6 and know how you feel.
Me: "aaah that would be cool if you could make it fixed"
Jack: "you can even set it up as a fixie if you're absolutely mental"

Everyone complains about cheap Walmart bikes. But when anyone builds a quality unique bike everyone complains about the price. LOL
Everything perfect. Even socks, trainers & shorts combo. You are my hero 🦸♂️
I own a mini-velo as my only bike :) Internally geared hubs are the way to go whit small wheels. A standard drive train will get dirty crazy quick when it sits low.
Idk about that. I been riding a cannondale Hooligan 8 for years. And a mini Masi. Love them. Had a internal gear Hooligan and hated it.
@@paulc43 I had the Hooligan too. The inter-3 hub is very draggy. I only used the 2nd gear. I also disliked the EBB that gets very stuck and is hard to adjust. I went with 10-speed derailleur.
