    2:35 he didn't apply too much brakes. A gust of wind lifted his left wing. It rolled right and the right wing touched the ground. Because of the right roll, the tail lifted off the ground causing the fin to act like a weather vane, which spun the aircraft to the left making the right wing dig further into the ground. This and the right tyre skidding caused a large braking effect causing the aircraft to tip over.... So, he didn't apply too much brakes ;-)

    The A350 landing was awesome, given that the runway has no ILS, to my knowledge, only an NDB, and FOR approaches, both navies to the right of the runway, so this was pretty much visual.

    Those aircraft (and DC-10) are notorious for having auto break malfunction that locks up a wheel and burns through it in seconds. The left and right mains took a beating in this landing. The center probably failed due to auto breaks malfunction.

    1:05 This isn’t exactly caused by “residual oils” alone but also by employee incompetence or lack of proper care to ensure it doesn’t happen. This is what happens when de-icing fluid is sprayed directly into the APU air intake valve or the exhaust outlet at the previous airport while the aircraft is being sprayed with glycol de-icing fluid. Airport employees tasked with the job are specifically trained to avoid getting any of the fluid into the APU unit which is usually not running at the time the fluid is applied to the plane’s wings and control surfaces. The main engines are usually running instead so the plane can taxi out immediately after the fluid is applied because it is only effective for a short period of time before it must be re-applied during extremely cold temperatures. Unfortunately, there’s always that one “special” knucklehead that sprays a large quantity of glycol directly into the APU. The glycol will remain in the APU until the pilots start the small turbine engine power generator at the next airport once the aircraft is within an hour of departure from the gate. The APU is necessary to start the main engines once pushed off the gate and is usually shut down once the main engines have been started.

    The APU fire might be a leaking oil cooler. The APU exhaust causes a suction of air. This causes APU compartment air to move through the oil cooler to cool the APU oil. The cooling air then flows overboard through the exhaust duct. With the APU oil cooler leaking, oil could vaporize in the hot exhaust gas stream.

    The MD-11 video looks more like a fuse plug blew (due to excessive temp) than the tyre "exploded". Maybe due to a brake malfunction or a worn wheel bearing. You can tell because it looks like a slow (relatively speaking) release of pressure rather than an explosion.

    • @YouTube.TOM.A
      @YouTube.TOM.A 2 года назад

      At the relatively normal landing speed of the MD11 plus not much cross wind component, I believe that something containing hydraulic pressure ruptured and sprayed fluid on the brake calipers and shoes. the resulting high temperatures may have caused the ruptures. Sometimes a wheel explosion happens minutes after landing, taking time for heat propagation of heat.

  • @mixter7x7
    @mixter7x7 2 года назад +1

    large aircraft have tire blow outs frequently. several per day world wide. the tire did not " EXPLODE "
    tires have " exploded " on landing. most times the tire carcass destroys or damages a landing gear door or the flap.
    the 777 DID NOT have an APU fire. what you showed IS NOT an APU FIRE.
    there was an oil leak inside the APU housing OR inside the apu compressor section.
    the running APU ingests the oil from the leak and burns it in the burner section.
    a small amount of oil makes a large smoke cloud when burned.

    You have a fun channel, and thanks for putting the video edits together. But way too often you don't research what you're posting and your captions are completely off stating what the next video edit will be. Even if you don't research what actually happened, you don't even seem to be paying attention to the video. I mean, the Stearman PT-17 getting hit by an unexpected gust of wind showed no indication that, "...the plane flips over after the pilot applies his brakes too hard...", it's like you're into aviation but are clueless about flying. Sorry, don't mean to get on your case, but almost every video upload you post, at least several of your captions introducing the next video are completely off -base, and when you claim pilots made a specific mistake when they didn't, is insulting to the pilots.

    The stearman….,it just shows you how soooo much of the total weight is in the nose/engine of that aircraft. I bet 70% of the weight sits from about the leading edge of the wing forward.

    The tire failure was obviously a failure of the antiskid system. You can see the tire skidding and producing a lot of smoke before it eventually blew.

    At least it was the center wheel and not the wing wheels, because dc-10s / md-11s are prone to roll around on the ground when that happens…

    1:12 thats not an APU fire yet, thats an APU eating its own oil, give it a few minutes and it will be a flame thrower.
