  • Reacting to the Most VIRAL Fashion Show of 2024: Maison Margiela Couture 2024
    Hey dolls! Welcome back to the Malcolm Soaries Channel, where we celebrate everything beautiful, fabulous, and a little ridiculous.
    John Galliano has become the comeback kid of the fashion industry. After many years as the creative director of Dior, he was scandalously terminated for a viral rant that I remember reading about as a young fashion student. At that time, he was an established, successful fashion designer with quite a prolific reputation and obviously some fierce demons.
    If I’m being honest, I had no idea that John Galliano has been with Margiela as creative director producing couture collections for 10 years now. His decadent and imaginative taste has remained consistent, but I just haven’t paid much attention to his work until this year. There seems to have been a conscious shift in fashion, especially since the pandemic, that has begun to highlight more emerging designers that offer a fresh perspective on dressing. However, when it comes to couture, heritage names do matter, and John Galliano is one of them.
    The viral success of Margiela’s 2024 Artisanal Collection was due to many aspects of this fashion show’s presentation. Staged in Paris through an alley under the Pont Alexandre III next to an antique 1920s club, Galliano and team created a time capsule for attendees to enter as part of the experience. The models were theatrical, engaging, and interactive, which evoked more visceral emotion that your standard fashion show. Pat McGrath has collaborated with the designer for many years, all the way back to 1996 in his Dior days, but did her “big one” (as the kids would say) with the glass skin makeup look that went viral in the beauty community.
    If you ask me, there’s been an underlying mission amongst fashion heads to usher in this celebratory era of John Galliano. His work was widely displayed at this year’s Met Gala on prominent celebrities of the night like Bad Bunny, Kim Kardashian, and Ariana Grande. Even the theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, seemed synonymous with the whimsical, innovative work that Galliano has displayed now for decades. It seems like he’s redeemed his reputation with sobriety and minding his business, which are two things that deserve a tone of respect. After this viral fashion show, I do believe Margiela has no plans on severing their partnership any time soon.

    Pat Boguslawski was the movement coordinator used on this show. The singer who opened is Lucky Love. And as you knew, the Pat McGrath glass skin was phenomenal. Everyone understood the assignment. S Tier.

    The dolls in the backseat, the ones that creeped you out came to life. The models movements were supposed to be animatronic, not drunk, and the glass face like old fashion vintage porcelain dolls. Think old beat up dolls from decades ago stored in the attic. Their cloths worn and shabby, their hair a tangle.

    • @MalcolmSoaries
      @MalcolmSoaries  Месяц назад +2

      I got the vintage porcelain doll reference very clearly. The “underbelly of Paris” theme did seem to lean into a drunken, destitute portrayal that went deeper than just a puppet or porcelain doll. For me, anyway. That’s the best part about fashion. Open to interpretation 🙌🏾💯

      @@MalcolmSoaries AHA Great. For the second leg of the tour she wore custom Thom Browne for the opening output. May I suggest that you dissect her fashion week moments from 2022-2023 especially with her wearing Thome Browne for the BBMAS 2022 and a fashion week. I feel those moments were the precursor of her recruiting Thome Browne on the tour.

    Personally I found it a bit bone-chilling that someone absurdly wealthy is profiting off of portraying poverty as haute couture, but what do I know.

    • @MalcolmSoaries
      @MalcolmSoaries  5 дней назад

      I mean, it’s a valid point! To me, it’s no different than any historically-based movie or documentary that portrays poverty, which wealthy people also profit off of. But I totally get your point.
