It's top-tier when it comes to expansive world design and exploration. However, it gets tiring listening to Shulk scream his lines and I never appreciated the anti-theistic tone of the story. Rex was considerably more pleasant than Shulk.
@5:29 That alone is why im buying this version...i love the original but those sidequests were so irritating; just trying to find where, who, what, when was so aggravating so glad they fixed that now...ima stop playing the wii one (im about 55 hours in) and ima start playing this one on Friday.
I completed every sidequest in the original. It took me a year 'cos I just kept getting bored of having to look everything up. But I might do it again if it's been greatly improved...
I remember when I started playing the original on the wii and said to myself "y'know what? i'm gonna do every side quest!" Needless to say, I was stupid to think I would have been able to do that and missed out on a lot of things because of it since i gave up after gaur plains (hell I even completely missed out on the colon 6 rebuild). So this will be a chance to experience what I missed as well as the new visual upgrade.
Fair warning a lot of the stuff in Future connected is referred that spoils the original game if you have not played the original game; or have you don’t remember it I would recommend playing through the main story first
In XC2 lowering your level and banking experience points is incentivized by providing bards that sell you various ultra-rare commodities like Weapon Points (weapon mastery) and the ever elusive and supposedly limited Overdrive cores (for transferring blades between drivers). You pay the bards with banked experience points. Great system that keeps game balance in check while giving you more opportunities to get limited stuff.
@@theaccount27 Thank god! I love "Xenoblade" to death, but one thing it was definitely not good at was armor design. 95% of then looked so hideous that I refused to use the vast majority of them, even if that meant having worse stats (had to over-level doing sidequests to compensate, though). But I LOVE Shulk's new outfit. I think it's his best look, by far (hoodie up or hoodie down).
Cosmetic Gear, that all I needed to hear. The one thing that bothered me in the original was how difficult it was to combine different gear sets without looking like a rodeo clown

I know this sounds crazy, but I just finished DQ11s and this is the next rpg I’m playing on switch. Talk about a one-two punch. Gonna be weird dumping over 200 hours into my switch and only having 2 games completed 😂
Expert Mode is a great addition even for a first time player like me. I was doing all sidequests so my level was getting out of hand, and because of that the game was getting too easy. Thanks to Expert Mode I could keep me 5ish levels below bosses, which made battles way more interesting.
I know and the stupid part is I ended up also buying a digital copy just because I couldn't wait. I do like collecting massive jrpg games physically on Switch though cause uses less storage
I kept reading everywhere online that Xenoblade is the best game ever made. I read that statement about a lot of games and everytime i tried one of the games claimed to be the best ever, i ended up severely disappointed. But Xenoblade is different. While it's not my favourite game ever, my high expectations were even beaten. There's so much content and love put into every detail.
@@somethingofascientist7084 I wasn't disappointed. I had high expectations for Xenoblade, but unlike the other games said to be the best, I actually enjoyed it and saw why one might say it's the best game ever.
This review is honestly just so good. My only real experience with Xenoblade Chronicles was playing the 3DS version for a couple of hours but it was kinda hard to get into such a huge, epic game on such a small device. I always felt like I was missing out. I had been thinking about getting the Definitive Edition ever since it was announced but this review just further cemented that idea. I just came here after watching the IGN review first and honestly, it's just night and day. Derrick perfectly lays out all major aspects of the game, the improvements made in this version and just overall makes the game sound extremely fun and enjoyable. You can tell Derrick loves this game and has put a lot of time into it and it really comes through in this review and makes me excited to finally properly get into it myself. Thanks for the quality reporting GameXplain. Never change.
Im about 12h in and completely agree with the review. The new quest markers on the map are a huge game changer, even though I turned the routing off (you could have mentioned that these new features can be turned off). My only complaint at this point is that the menus can still be needlessly complicated. Why can’t I directly equip a weapon I just bought at the merchant? Stuff like this. PS: I still remember playing the original upon release. There was a huge google document constantly being edited by the community to keep track of all the quests. Thank god that is not necessary anymore.
4:17 something I want to ask in terms of ai, as well as technical quirks. Melia's reflection, does it break monster programming? Does the tephra cave glitch still exist? And does shulk's AI still use enchant when you're equipped with anti-mechon weaponry? ... stuff like this drastically changes the experience you know? Some scenarios for the battles, if you can't use a certain manado art because your Ai decided to use enchant, you can't use manado arts. 3D almost fixed this, but art seal for some reason, deactivated the instant recharge time of vision manado arts
@@danielr.5301 .. sorry for the late response, but in the original, that only appears _after_ the upgrade to the manado 2. The change was exclusive to the HD version on the Wii u and 3D

yeah, even years after the game was out, the wiki for the game goes to insane lengths to keep that one spoiler safe while still being able to obtain information and help in your playthrough. If you're starting I know I just started 2 days ago but I recommend that you first grind before fighting bosses it's highly recommended and don't try to get stuck it's hard to get out I have to purposely die once to get out being stuck
8:50 Wait, Fashionblade? Xenoblade Chronicles already pulled a lot of things from MMORPGs, I’m glad it’s brought even more modern MMO features on board here.
I'm glad to hear that there's an option to use outfits for aesthetic without affecting stats. To be honest, that was the feature I was most hoping for when the remaster was announced.
Changing your level by will is a much better addition than you think! For my part I want to do all the side quests, but if I do I’ll be over leveled. This isn’t usually a problem as I thinks it’s really satisfying, but in this game that means missing out on one of its biggest mechanics, the battle visions. As most of you know Shulk can see the future, and this has both story and gameplay relevance. If you are over leveled then you probably won’t have a problem in battles and as such you won’t see any visions to help you. They become completely redundant. This system will finally let us play all the side quests to get everything and still not be overpowered during the main story. This is without a doubt the thing I’m most exited for.
Two titans. Something about attacking on titans. Darn it I want Nia,Elma,Rex or Lora to be in smash Also Chugga convinced me. Melia better get a happier ending.
I mean, 2020 has already been a solid year for JRPGs. They've all been remakes/remasters/or however you wanna describe them, with those being Persona 5 Royal and FFVIIR, and now XCDE. Of course FFVIIR is essentially a completely new game, just based off of an existing IP. There's the Bravely Default sequel coming out. Yet the original games fit more into a niche audience of in terms of the player base when you compare it to other big JRPG IPs. So I'll be surprised if it gets a lot of clout
Oh thank GOD for quest marking. I am a completionist and I remember the quests were the reason I dropped the game originally bc I just felt way too overwhelmed. And I was still barely outside the beginning of the game
In an interview with US Gamer, Tetsuya said it was because it would cost too much money, so unfortunately i don't think it'll be happening anytime soon.
Expert Mode is a big one for me, personally. You essentially get to adjust the game's difficulty freely, however you like. No more concern that sidequesting is going to trivialize the challenge. I am extremely appreciative of that, so I just know I'll be making use of it.
Most likely, yes. It is the first game in the Xenoblade series (the beginning of the story) and it has an easy mode you can activate at any point, should you get stuck somewhere. The characters, world and story are beloved among a fanbase that is big enough to have characters from this series appear in Smash Bros.! It's great, enjoy the ride!
Thank you for this. I kept going back and forth on whether to jump straight into Future Connected (as I already played through Chronicles on 3DS) or to play the main game first. What you said about it convinced me that going through the main game first is a better choice.
I first played Xenoblade around 7 years ago and it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. I can't wait to experience it all again and have the game itself be even better than it was originally!
Never played this but did play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and X. So super tempted to give this a go. That said, would love to see Xenoblade Chronicles X come to the Switch.
You guy's review of Xenoblade Chronicles for the n3DS is what ultimately convinced me to buy the n3ds & xenoblade and for that, im very thankful. I am so so so excited for this game. It was awesome on the n3ds (because its an awesome game), even though the controls were troublesome and the fact that it was kind of difficult to play because their vision couldn't properly be actualized with the older tech. I've been waiting for this specific game for YEARS even before the switch was a thing.
3:00 Never understood how that was seen as a 'weakness' or how you could have big problems with that. If you target an enemy there was always an arrow showing in which direction the enemy was looking. Logically, opposite of this arrow was where the back was and the space inbetween were the sides. I sometimes missed a hit when i was too close to boundary but that was more on me not paying enough attention, than on the game not giving me enough info. Not saying this is a bad addition, but i really never saw this as a big deal before. ^^
I gave this game a go on the Wii after playing Dragon Age: Origins. It was an awkward experience as western RPGs had far surpassed JPRG's back then. One of my biggest gripes I had was the 'dumb' AI and the limited options for scripting the AI. Like "use X when battle starts". As this reviewer called out: you cant script shulk to use the enchant art to improve party dps vs mechon, in other words you'll be forced to main Shulk vs mechon unless you want to wait for a braindead AI to use an ability he should be scripted to open the battle up with. Did this game even have testers, like a UXer? Coming from Dragon Age which had much deeper scripting controls and on top of that you could switch between characters on the fly during battle. I understand that these are different games, but to me it felt like I was playing a near complete downgrade. I had hoped that in this remake, 10 years later, they tweaked the combat to be less braindead (e.g. allowing for on the fly character switching and deeper scripting) but according to this reviewer, the combat area in that regard has barely been touched. In fact, they dumbed it down even more (telling you when you're behind an enemy, really?). The last few bits where you actually had to use your brain and be aware of your environment and monster, have also succesfully been stripped down in the form of a quest helper and combat helper. Though I heard the story is spectacular. In terms of actual gameplay I can't help but feel this is an even more dumbed down version of an already poor man's Dragon Age. I'm glad Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exists. My personal favorite JRPG over the last decade. - SNES era JRPG veteran let the downvotes commence.
I wanted to like the combat in Xenoblade 2 since they say it’s better than 1, which I already loved, but I simply couldn’t do it. Maybe it’s because battles take longer or auto attacks can’t be performed while moving (I don’t really know), but I just could never get into the combat system of 2.
Hubert von Vestra I share the sentiment that in instances like these people should focus on the good rather than the bad, but I don’t think that the distaste for people doing the opposite should be pointed at Americans specifically. Unfortunately, people all around the world from every culture do what you are describing. Blaming a particular part of the world for a trait that is shared worldwide is just as toxic as if one were to "cherry-pick one flaw and use it to make the whole thing look bad". Have a good one 🙂.
Before resolution was released: "Wow, this looks so good!" The same people after resolution revealed: "Wow this looks shitty." Honestly, I don't get it. If a game looks good then does the resolution really matter?
If you have a Switch and you like/love RPG/JRPG’s then you HAVE to buy and play this, you have no excuse not to experience one of the best games ever made anymore!
And another Wii U game gets ported to Switch. At least now millions of people have access to it, instead of the dozens when it was on Wii U, which only lasted 4 1/2 months before being discontinued, recalled, and replaced by Switch.
I just got this game a few days ago and it’s the first time I’m playing a Xenoblade game. I’ve been really enjoying it, but I just can’t get into the battle system. Most of the time I have no clue what I’m doing and I lost count of how many times I’ve died. The story is what keeps me going, though.

Improved sidequests, improved graphics, and a new side story dealing with what happened to Melia. This game is a dream come true.
This game made me feel feelings like few games I've played. It's easily among my top 3 RPGs of all time.
DQ 11?
It feels like we've been waiting so long for this, even though it was only announced like 7 months ago
After seeing all of the over the moon praise for this game, I can't wait for this!
it a old game... you can play on 3ds.... which mean it will be boring as shit... and just rotting your brain....
It's top-tier when it comes to expansive world design and exploration.
However, it gets tiring listening to Shulk scream his lines and I never appreciated the anti-theistic tone of the story.
Rex was considerably more pleasant than Shulk.
@@campkira Bruh what are you doing in this comment section if you hate the game.
@Scitch2781 ok Mr big brain

@5:29 That alone is why im buying this version...i love the original but those sidequests were so irritating; just trying to find where, who, what, when was so aggravating so glad they fixed that now...ima stop playing the wii one (im about 55 hours in) and ima start playing this one on Friday.
It will take u a while to learn from that mistake lol
I completed every sidequest in the original. It took me a year 'cos I just kept getting bored of having to look everything up. But I might do it again if it's been greatly improved...
I remember when I started playing the original on the wii and said to myself "y'know what? i'm gonna do every side quest!"
Needless to say, I was stupid to think I would have been able to do that and missed out on a lot of things because of it since i gave up after gaur plains (hell I even completely missed out on the colon 6 rebuild). So this will be a chance to experience what I missed as well as the new visual upgrade.
Talk about a major improvement.
That was Xenoblade 2 for me, my only Xeno game
Fair warning a lot of the stuff in Future connected is referred that spoils the original game if you have not played the original game; or have you don’t remember it I would recommend playing through the main story first
The review is finally here! Can't wait to start playing this on Friday! Thanks for your hard work, Derrick!

Great system that keeps game balance in check while giving you more opportunities to get limited stuff.
my immediate thought going into this review what is that Outfit on Shulk (with the hood) where can i get it and can i use it in the main game?
Apparently it’s in the epilogue, and outfits there are unlocked in the main game
@@theaccount27 ...Neat
Lol same! Im an outfit nut when it comes to jrpgs. Gotta look badass when whopping ass and grinding.
@@theaccount27 it means We have to finish the epilogue to have them for the main game? Cause i wanted to start with the main game 😔
Cosmetic Gear, that all I needed to hear. The one thing that bothered me in the original was how difficult it was to combine different gear sets without looking like a rodeo clown
Agreed
Or how the same gear looks completely different on each character.
I really hope my order actually comes in on Friday, because this is one of my favourite games of all time and easily my most hyped game of the year

Pro tip: agility tank Dunban. Make it happen and you won't be disappointed.
Duly noted
My Dunban and 7th have like 200 Agility atm and they keep dodging all attacks. Awesome 😂
@@elmoxy97 Yeah, agility really is a fantastic stat. I've experimented with a lot of different setup, but player-controlled Shulk, Seven, and Dunban seems to be unmatched in raw damage output.

Xenoblade was probably my favourite game on the Wii.
Ready to experience this masterpiece all over again.
So glad they improved on the whole quest tracking.

You said xenoblade disappointed you but xenoblade is different, what did you mean?
The music in XC is sooooo amazing.I love it

4:17 something I want to ask in terms of ai, as well as technical quirks.
Melia's reflection, does it break monster programming?
Does the tephra cave glitch still exist?
And does shulk's AI still use enchant when you're equipped with anti-mechon weaponry?
... stuff like this drastically changes the experience you know?
Some scenarios for the battles, if you can't use a certain manado art because your Ai decided to use enchant, you can't use manado arts. 3D almost fixed this, but art seal for some reason, deactivated the instant recharge time of vision manado arts
Tsyumamatsu TheHavenofGuardia in complete fairness to the ai enchant is a damage boost on top of the anti mechon attribute
@@danielr.5301 .. sorry for the late response, but in the original, that only appears _after_ the upgrade to the manado 2.

I love that Jenna Coleman came back to do Future connected 😍
I'm glad to hear that there's an option to use outfits for aesthetic without affecting stats. To be honest, that was the feature I was most hoping for when the remaster was announced.
Amazing RPG, definitely a must play if you never played it before.

That black outfit for Melia is so pretty! Do we know if any of the cosmetics from Future Connected can be used in the main game? Or vice versa?
Expert Mode is a big one for me, personally. You essentially get to adjust the game's difficulty freely, however you like. No more concern that sidequesting is going to trivialize the challenge. I am extremely appreciative of that, so I just know I'll be making use of it.
As someone who hasn’t played any XC games and barely any RPG would this game be a good start that I would like?
It's different, it's some kind of singleplayer MMORPG, if that makes any sense.
As someone who was in your shoes when the original game came out, yes. Yes you will like it.
Yeah, just be wary since the game can be a little overwhelming, but give it a shot, it may become one of your favorites
Thank you for this. I kept going back and forth on whether to jump straight into Future Connected (as I already played through Chronicles on 3DS) or to play the main game first. What you said about it convinced me that going through the main game first is a better choice.

Never understood how that was seen as a 'weakness' or how you could have big problems with that.
- SNES era JRPG veteran
let the downvotes commence.
I wanted to like the combat in Xenoblade 2 since they say it’s better than 1, which I already loved, but I simply couldn’t do it. Maybe it’s because battles take longer or auto attacks can’t be performed while moving (I don’t really know), but I just could never get into the combat system of 2.
