Just because you are experiencing this issue does not 100% guarantee it’s the starter reply, more likely than not it will not be the relay, first we check for a good connection at the terminals making sure they are tight and clean, the bad connection can even be at the starter itself and of course this is also a sign of a starter going bad, I’m not saying it is your starter but not always your relay, as a bad starter get worse you will notice you will require more turns of the key before your vehicle will crank over until one day if will never crank over, sometimes tapping the bad starter itself with a hammer will allow it to crank, obviously checking for a bad starter would be the last option, so connection , then relay and then starter is how we wanna diagnose it. This is my experience as a Honda mechanic.
My Honda Accord 2013 is having the exact intermittent ignition problem. The only difference is that my car has a push button ignition. It’s not my battery so I’ll definitely check the relay. You are God sent. Thank you.
Great vid! Thanks to this video I was able to get to the bottom of my issue with the radiator fan (driver side) on my 2016 accord sport. The radiator fan wasn't kicking in whenever I started the car (with ac on) and only would start if I touch the blade really quick, I thought the fan motor was failing so I ordered a new fan motor and replaced the relay module.
I'm tempted to pull out the new box and check the pins like you did, but after fighting to get all the connections and fit it, I'm hesitant. Do not want to fight with this connections with no slack!! And I'm an electrician btw😉
So I needed this part and was lazy calling a fully licensed 3rd party Honda parts dealer in Boston Bernardi Honda. I had concerns about the part not bring compatible with my 2015 Honda. But after watching your video and taking screen shots, yes I have the exact save wiring harness under the hood. Bernardi Honda parts rep said no you cannot buy the ignition relay circuit board! You must purchase the entire wiring harness. I said hey man comnon sense says they wouldn't manufacture cars where you would have to rewire an entire harness with all those fuses a s relays. That's hundreds of tiny wires!!! In the end, he have me the relays part number and quoted $29.98/ea! I passed and called my local guy here 20mi west of Chicago, Spar Mobile/Forn Auto. Ordered at just before 3pm cutoff, they had it in my hands the next day! Thier their driver went somewhere and brought it back! Can't say enough good things about them. Been using then for over 20yrs and they know what your talking about plus are usually 30% cheaper than the steakershios! Just my 2 cents
hello Commerce! I have exact same starter relay problem like yours. Could you send us a link where we can purchase OEM relays? Yeah i agree it is very dumb that Honda put relays in that box...
Hey thank you for making such incredibly helpful videos! I'm watching them all and subscribed. Anyway I got the exact replacement part and installed it. What a hassle trying to get the female plugs from the harness into the new board, no slack at all!!! Ok so now it starts much more often as compared to my old ignition relay cucuit board. Thing is it's NOT starting every time. The board is brand new from a very reputable parts house. Checked all the fuses in the box under the hood... Please respond and just give me your two cents.
Thank you Sir for your speedy reply!! Starter is good and strong. Problem persists. I'm going to swap back to the original board. Think I may be an idiot and accidentally confused them as I was doing it at 3am. Hope that's the issue! Otherwise I'm taking it in and don't want to spend money like that.
I may have the same problem with my 2014 Honda Accord ex, I asked at AutoZone, advance auto parts and at O'Reilly's, they didn't find it in their system, do have any idea where I could get this@@amguy01
Hello iam confused have a 2015 honda accord coupe exl 2.4engine have done alot seaching and when i look up that part it tells me it has something to do the the seats is it a multi functional relay box that controls many things or are the starter relays separate from that box thanks
Has anyone managed to remove the relay board under the black plastic cover? 2:21 I can only raise the cover about an inch and I cant get to the connectors underneath. Thanks
I've been having the same exact issue. Unfortunately, I was told by the mechanics to replace the battery, then they said the starter, then the alternator. It still continued....
Thank you for the video. Question. Same model and year. Car died while driving. Dead battery. Battery replaced. I’m only getting one click from starter. No crank. Can this be related to this video. Thank you for any information.
I pulled the starter relay out but cannot get the connectors loose. The only way I see to disconnect the connectors is to remove the whole relay box. .....................Well I give up. I can't get the relay out so I'm taking it to the shop. I'll let them do it.
The car was flooded I swapped out the engine hoping everything would be good now it won’t crank or start I noticed that there is a green key flashing on the dash never had that before but I’m going to test the starter see what happens

Has anyone managed to remove the relay board under the black plastic cover? 2:21 I can only raise the cover about an inch and I cant get to the connectors underneath. Thanks
it could be a weak solder on the relay.some re-soldering will correct the problem.much like hodas bad DRL relay box in the past if you remember
Thanks, I checked the joints and they were all firm, I think the relay was just faulty, I'm going to disassemble it once I replace it.
Thank you for the video...I have the exact problem. Anyone know the part number to replace this module. I can't find it anywhere.
I've seen them fail before, the part itself is not too bad from the dealer, around $70.
What is the part number for this part or specific name of it?? 3:13
