We had this car as a loaner on a week long family trip last year. We were able to fit 4 adults, 3 luggages, 4 starbucks drinks and half a dozen shopping bags without compromising comfort. I've got a 2020 Macan and I'm enough of a fan that I'm turning it in for a 2024 tomorrow. On the plus side, it's stylish and looks equally at home pulling up to a valet at an expensive restaurant as it does going to Home Depot, it handles like a dream around town and in rainy weather, and it's about as quick and nimble a small SUV as you're likely to find. The downsides have been a lack of much cargo space, rear seats that only fold down fully if you move the front seats forward, a weak A/C system with the vents positioned too low to do much good, and a somewhat unstable feeling at high speeds on the highway (I really expected this car to hug the road much better). Also, most Macans will set you back far north of $60K... it's almost impossible to find a base model with no or minimal options, and once you add the premium package to get the pano roof, as well as a few other niceties, you're more in the $70K neighborhood. I had major sticker shock when I saw how much more my 2024 lease is costing than my 2020 (i.e., ~7K+ more over the term of the lease). Owning or leasing a Macan is definitely not a bargain, nor is it the most practical SUV you'll find, but hey... it's a Porsche. Great review/POV! I really like the Macan. It’s super refined and the base motor has enough power for every day driving. Unfortunately, it would be hard to find one on a lot anywhere near $60K. The one you’re driving, with the options shown, would likely cost at least $74K.
I bought my new 2015 Macan S and still have it as my daily driver. Remarkable how familiar I feel with this new Macan 9 model years later. Porsche is the best at small, incremental improvements that feels so familiar to an owner of the first generation of this car. By the way, my 6 cyl 340 hp Macan S would blow the doors off this new 4 cyl.
It all depends on the maintenance history. The transmission and transfer case are my biggest concerns with longevity but proper maintenance can keep it fine for a long time. The engines have improved over the years but a base model should be fine and the 4-cylinder is the most reliable of the engine lineup. It's the easiest to work on and maintain, along with being about 200lb lighter for better handling, with less weight off the front end. The v6 engines from those years were the Porsche engines that had a few oil leak and coolant pipe issues. The engines switched to Audi engines in 2019, both the 3.0 and 2.9 which are generally seen as more reliable from 2019 up. If I went with a V6 engine, it would be the 2.9. If you need more power from the base engine, you can tune it and it will be as quick as the 3.0 V6 engines. The base model is lacking the grunt from the larger engines but if you drive under 100mph, you won't miss any power. The trim is the best handling version due to the lighter weight and with a set of thicker sway bars and correct tires, it will be the best handling SUV with the most comfortable ride out there. That's what makes it luxury, the fact that it will have an excellent and comfortable ride, while being able to handle any curve or road condition without drama.

I had the ‘base’ model, but I sold it. It was a very ‘nice’ car, but not ‘special.’ I should have bought one of the 6 cylinder versions perhaps. Its interior was too impractical, that I just found annoying after a while. I do not like the new haptic buttons.
My only issue with the new Macan is that the interior is pretty much unchanged from the years prior. It’s time Porsche fully remodels this vehicle. The interior is dated compared to its competitors at this price point and model year.
That’s true but it’s Because this is still the first gen macan, just with a facelift. The next gen macan is supposed to debut next year I think, but it will be EV only. I wouldn’t say it’s dated compared to other brands, but it’s dated compared to the 911 or cayenne or taycan
@@carswithnate Thanks for the reply. I’m in the market to upgrade and possibly transition from the Mercedes brand to the Porsche brand. I’ll be looking forward to the next generation Macan if it releases next year. Maybe that release will be a more sensible choice for the price point if the upgrades and redesign meet their mark.
No only apple car play. PCM 5.0 in the Macan does not have android auto, however in some of the other porsche models that have PCM 6.0, those have android auto.
It's embedded into the system but not readily available. There are several aftermarket vendors that can activate full screen Android Auto on PCM 5.0. In addition, there are aftermarket boxes that transmit Android Auto through the OE Carplay function. That is what I'm using now and it works very well. The only downside is that it's partial screen, just like the OE the car play function.
@@bm_sfl thank you. I have the financial strength to buy an Audi rsq8 or the macan gts. I optioned one to 98k dollars, but the only thing stopping me from buying it, is the android auto, and also I have read a lot of rumors about their leaking panoramic sunroof. I love the macan gts most, because I am just 5'5 and I love the size of it. How long have you been driving yours, and do you experience any problem with the panoramic roof ? And also how good and reliable is it? My friend drives the 2023 cayenne gt, and it's a perfect car, I don't know about the macans reliability yet
@@jerub1185 Mine is a 2021 and no issues with the sunroof. If you park under trees then perhaps over time debris can get into the water passages by the sunroof. This is easily remedied by monitoring any debris that may enter into the sunroof guides if the sunroof is operated while there is debris on the roof. The Macan is well over 1,000 pounds lighter than the RSQ8 and about 1,000 lighter than the Cayenne, but its significantly smaller. The lower weight makes for an excellent driving experience. For me this is a second car to compliment a 911 and the Macan is a very agile performer for an SUV with a higher center of gravity. The transmission really makes the Macan stand out from the rest of the pack that uses automatic transmissions. There are no reliability issues but anything could happen on any car. Any prior issues over the past decade that the car has been out have generally been addressed. Just keep it in warranty and you will be fine.
@@bm_sfl thank you for this, I appreciate your response. I am gonna settle for the macan gts. I got to test drive one today, and that little beast stole my heart. I want to option it to 100k and then, I will make the order. I will remember to update you once it arrives.
I’m ending the lease on my 2021 Alfa Romeo Guilia so looking around for a new car hopefully SUV…the Macan interior is literally smaller than the Guilia there is no way you can spend this type of money for a this small of a SUV. I’m leaning towards the X3M40i

The small sport SUV segment all have the same size leg room in the rear. Stelvio, x3, q5 etc. You need a cayenne or similar size if you want more space.
Just test drove 2024 GLC and Macan today. GLC actually has more leg room in the back. But Macan is a class apart when it comes to driving. Wish overall interior/screen in Macan gets an uplift. It is still a decade behind. But drive.. wow.. awesome!

I had the ‘base’ model, but I sold it. It was a very ‘nice’ car, but not ‘special.’ I should have bought one of the 6 cylinder versions perhaps. Its interior was too impractical, that I just found annoying after a while. I do not like the new haptic buttons.
Actually the facelift was for the 2022 models.
I thought the newest one (with the different rear bumper design) was only 2023 and 2024?
It just had an interior update maybe 3yrs ago and you want another one.
@@991carreras3 no one wants an update a refresh is what’s needed. The interface and interior cabin looks aged compared to the competition.
I disagree. Beautiful interior design. Mainly just needs a better spot to put your phone.
Where can I find one for 60k
Porsche.com
Wrecked or older high mileage.
The 2024 macan has android auto ?
You know its the same PDK so i dont know what your saying about the 1st gen that its so different. SMH.
I used to have a 2018 Macan and the gearbox is much quicker in the new gen, especially the downshifting reaction time
I’m ending the lease on my 2021 Alfa Romeo Guilia so looking around for a new car hopefully SUV…the Macan interior is literally smaller than the Guilia there is no way you can spend this type of money for a this small of a SUV. I’m leaning towards the X3M40i
X3M40i over a Macan GTS - you have to be kidding. The Macan GTS is a class apart in every department.
We had a giulia quadrifolgio and the macan interior is bigger just saying.
You are just too cute doing the review. I got distracted a lot. But I got the decide that I will buy Macan over BMW now. lol
impossible to have the face-lifted macan for $60k😅
Por-Sha
Take a shot every time he says “in my opinion” to get absolutely smashed 😂
If I don’t clarify that then people will argue with me about what I say
@@carswithnateI understand man it was a joke, but yeah everything you say is always your opinion so you shouldn’t worry about that - if you’d like to be safe just mention in the beginning that everything you say is indeed your opinion :)
Remember, Porsche is a two syllable word. Pronounced Por-sha
I know but it gets annoying to say it like that instead of the American way 😂
For $70K + tax = $77K in California, wish back seats had two extra inches of leg room. At that price point, no need to settle for less..
The small sport SUV segment all have the same size leg room in the rear. Stelvio, x3, q5 etc. You need a cayenne or similar size if you want more space.
I mean it’s California obviously more expensive i feel bad
Just test drove 2024 GLC and Macan today. GLC actually has more leg room in the back. But Macan is a class apart when it comes to driving. Wish overall interior/screen in Macan gets an uplift. It is still a decade behind. But drive.. wow.. awesome!
Where can you buy a 24 Porsche for $60,000 how do you come up with that figure that car must've been at least $75,000 also do you always check gas mileage doing 85 miles an hour?
www.porsche.com/usa/models/macan/macan-models/macan/
Literally says $60k on their website. Idk why I have to explain this to a bunch of people
Coz it’s not stupid, your review sucks! Lol
This is the base Macan it only has an Audi 4 cylinder motor made 100% at an Audi plant so it's an Audi Macan. The S model is only about 10k more but will hold its value because its 100% Porsche .Just look at the 968 944 and 924 you cant give them away.Nice review though.
In my opinion I think he says "in my opinion" too much 😂
Very nice car, but I chose the BMW X3, the performance and handling seem similar, but I think the BMW looks a lot better.
Fair enough
The Porsche brand is a step up from a BMW.
I drove them both and to me the BMW was better, the Porsche was just a bit faster, and that was not an issue for me. Also I think the Macan is a bit awkward looking. Very happy with my choice of the X3. I had no particular vehicle in mind, as soon as I sat in the X3 I knew it looked and felt the best. A distant 2nd choice was the Genesis GV70@@andyleo8418
Really? The X3 is nice but it has a more square-ish boxy look. The macan has curves. But to each their own.
The Macan looks like the rear is sawed off very awkward looking, the X3 is conservative but the body flows.@@jayp398
Me gusta porshe macan para David
Good luck finding one for 60K.
That’s what I was thinking 😂
More like 70 k minimum.
Love the car but not the fact he does not pronounce Porsche correctly.
I don’t speak German
I should had worn a Porsche Shirt instead of Champion😅.
Car is OK .....
Head lights are not
Powerful to drive in the night ......
60K? False Title. LOL 60K , more like 80k, oh you want leather seats cooled seats heated seats and a sunroof? Make that 90K. Autostart? Make that 91K. Just LOL at your false title.
Maintenance is very expensive... more than Mercedes and BMW.
Yes but Porsches are more reliable than those two. But ultimately, nicer cars will always be more expensive for parts and service. If you think porsche is expensive you should see what it costs to replace the brakes on a Ferrari 😂
@@carswithnate Really?? Interesting. Ferrari is not in my vocabulary. lol
@@carswithnateBMW are known for their reliability now. Check the reports.
In my opinion....How many times are you going to say it!
I have the 2016 Macan S using the word luxury with the macan does not apply it is a raised sports car. Nothing luxury about it.
It’s nicer than similar BMWs and Mercedes. That’s why porsche costs more
How do you like it? I’m picking a 2016 s next week and I’m so excited but agree with you. I got it for performance but I wouldn’t consider it “luxury” I was chosing between macan and Mercedes and I chose macan for the performance
@luna-rt4vx my first porsche 2007 boxster next was 2012.5 991 Carrera s then the 2016 macan s and its all sports car even when compared to my 987 & 991. People say I'm crazy when I say the boxster was more fun than the 991 but it's true the macan is a raised boxster its amazing how well it handles and how fast it can go around turns and stay well planted. The macan s is pure sports car and not one drop of luxury. Enjoy it !! My next one is the Taycan used market prices have really dropped on them.
$60k and you get a four banger Volkswagen engine 😂
Exactly. The four banger Volkswagen engine also the most important thing of them all a Porsche badge and that's about it. 60K with ZERO options. No auto start no leather no sunroof no cooled heated seats. Hell I'd be surprised if it came with power windows. Just a slow no option having "Porsche"
Yes it the best then next year brand new Re design macan come out how much u get paid for this video dude
That’s the case with every car. The newer ones comes out and replaces the old. What’s the problem? Every car reviewer does this
Wrong! S starts 70,000+
Not in America. This car is a base model
60000$? I wish🤣
I test drove this base model. One new and one used. They both felt used. I was very disappointed and proved to myself there is no such thing as a RUclips test drive. I have a used V6 2004 Toyota that drives better than this. I would pay no more than 40K for a new one, if I chose this car at all...
😢
I was choosing between Macan,X3 and GLC. I went with X3 m40i. Porsche is just pricey VW, 2 times facelifted
Much better bang for buck X3 m40i. Porsche is so greedy with zero options slow engine unless you'll willing to pay six figures. X3 M40i goes hard. Plus you can easily tune it as well.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Lol drive a Porsche and a Volkswagen and if you think it’s the same you need medication.
He's yummy - I'm subscribing!
Waiting for the EV Version. This is old tech.
The ev will be the same/similar tech as the taycan and cayenne just different powertrain.
EV - can’t stand them, EV is no longer a Porsche IMHO 🤡
LOL. $60K? It starts at $75K!
It technically starts at $60k msrp
