Based loosely on the novel with a similar name, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde follows Dr. Jekyll as he walks to his wedding. For some reason though, everyone and everything is out to kill him. Unfortunately for them, he has mastered the art of phase walking.
This run is an improvement of over a minute over the previous run ( tasvideos.org/... ), thanks to more optimization and a new glitch that allows Jekyll to clip through the screen.

@@Eliasdbr Not if the alternative is to lose more time. In that last stretch, there was a crapload of bombs. If he hadn't been pushed back by getting hit, the bombs would do a lot more damage, and he'd turn in to Hyde. That would take up a lot more time than walking a few extra feet again.

Walk across the city simulator is very realistic in the number of bombs and high velocity barrels one encounters during the day.

You know this is stupidly hard when even glitched he needs to dodge stuff.
Aladato Not only that, the TAS'er STILL GETS HIT. Often enough that he has like 1 life remaining when he wins. Those dogs, man... Bombs, bad singing, cats, bees, bird poop -- they all tried, but in the end only the dogs and barrels could hit him.
One thing that isn't clear when AVGN describes it -- when you become Dr Jekyll again after killing enough monsters as Mr Hyde, do you restart the whole game at level 1 as Jekyll or do you only go back to the start of the level?
Also, it seems like the farther you make it as Jekyll, the harder it is to be Hyde. If Hyde dies in the spot Jekyll made it to and Jekyll nearly made it to the end of the level, you have practically no time to get your stress level back down before lightning bolts you. That's probably the biggest oversight in development. Stupidly hard platforming I can understand; I watch Kaizo shit all the time. But what makes more sense is to spawn Hyde at the point where Jekyll dies, then doesn't kill Hyde till he gets all the way back to the beginning.
Actually I'm pretty sure you just resume from whereever you have run to as Jekyll.

Go out and walk around your neighborhood for 17 minutes. It will be more fun than watching this video.

Really !!? it simply ends with the opened-door church .... I've been expecting kissing or fuckin something
maunty1984 that's just the bad ending, which is faster to get. the good ending lets you assist to the wedding with a final kiss. To trigger the good ending you have to reach the final stage, trasform into Hyde and survive the monsters by walking all the way back. No lightning will strike you and you will have the chance to face a final boss. Once beaten, the game turns back to Jekyll and you just have to walk to the church with no possessed townspeople and hazards
But… This isn’t the true ending.
Dr. Jekyll walks into his wedding, tripping balls, and goes "Sorry about being high. I took a hit of LSD right before the barrel section so I could get through faster."
Also, a lot of the backgrounds (like the cemetary) would actually be rather atmospheric and pretty without the birds crapping on you and the pissing statues.
Finally, I watched this in x2 speed and his walking speed still felt agonizingly slow. I can't imagine the amount of frustration that goes into doing a TAS of this. Well done.

I'm so curious as to why the game was designed this way. It's goes so much against what was expected of video games that it almost comes off like some subversive commentary as to what should count as a video game. The main character is slow and weak, and you lose when you actually have the fun powers. This could be the very first meta video game.

I watched the game in, 0.25x, it was much better.
Even though I had got fired and lost my wife, it was worth the 8 years.

hello, unpopular opinion, my old friend!
i love this game and its music! am i crazy? welp, maybe! but the music and game are not as bad as people make it out to be. especially the dr. jekyll stage theme makes a marvelous orchestral or piano piece!
The music's pretty good and fits such an English setting, the game itself is just agonizingly difficult.
@@neuronoc.7343 true, true. it's a weird case. for some reason i find myself coming back and play this game once every few years. not speedrunning, not raging over it. i just try and have a good time which...works..most of the time
