Why oh why oh why does Honda keep missing this - 1. CRUISE CONTROL!! - 2. TFT Screen with smart Phone connectivity - Its a deal breaker for millions of people around the world. These items are becoming the norm on budget bikes so why the hell Honda keep missing this is beyond me. There are enough videos and complaints on YT to substantiate this comment. Rant over, great video as always, thank you.
And, add heated grips and panniers plus 5 move HP for highways. I had an NT700V with shaft drive and it was bullet proof / maintenance free - great for winter commuting. Also, move the gas cap from under the rear seat to the side so you can fill up without removing stuff tied down - like camping and rain gear. Overall, its a boring bike but for hard everyday use and weekend trips, boring is exactly what you want.
I have had every kind of bike, so far this is my favorite. It has the low end feel of my XS650, only with more power, and the freeway at 70mph is nowhere as buzzy as my V-storm was. It is not a dual sporrt in the same way the the V-storm was a dual sport. It's too low for that, but fire breaks and gravel roads it's ok. You'll need a skind plate for more than that, but light ADV is no problem. All the power is on the low and mid range of the curve which is nice, and it is nowhere near as top heavy as the V-Strom. I can flat foot the ground most of the time. I used sport mode in the twisties, and switch to eco on the flat or freeway, I get about 68 mpg with a 50/50 combination of modes. Gas mileage is best under 70 miles an hour, and it is very smooth on the freeway. It steers a little heavy, but that may be the stock tires, which are really soft and close to the wear bars at 3300 miles. It is worth the price? Yeah it is. DCT takes some getting used to but it shifts faster and better that I would.
I did a 1200km road trip on my NC750X dct in Jan 2024 .600km per day.Went like a dream. Most of the time did 130kmh and even higher sometimes. I was one up with luggage for a week in my top box.Ample power and comfortable. Overall consumption for the trip was 3,45L/100km Wonderful motorcycle !
I am in the UK and use mine for day-trips. I will often do 400 miles (643km's) and the bike will return in excess of 100mpg if I go steadily. I enjoy this bike because it's sweet spot (for me) is between 70-85. Even at these speeds it returns 80+mpg. Furthermore the fact it isn't too keen on going much above 100mph means I am way less tempted to break the law that loses the license (100mph in the UK). I find the frunk incredibly useful too. Next year I am fully intending to ride from the UK to Gibraltar, some 1,600 miles.
I am currently in market and looking to add possibly a dual sport or adv touring and then this ole girl pops up 🤗. The 750X has so much to offer that she’s a top 3 and really making it difficult to decide 🧐. So much to offer in an unpretentious extremely affordable option that checks off so many boxes, all while being made by one of the most reliable companies on the market. Sooooo many decisions 😱 Thank you for sharing 🙏👍🏻🤘🏻
I've just came across Your channel accidentally ystd, but I must say I'm under a huge impression of the news-television-like quality of Your videos! Not talking about the highest level of subject matter analysis, of course. Big, big congratulations!
Hello Scott. Another essential presentation that proves that you have nothing to prove! A friend of mine has the 1st version of the 700 cubic centimeters without the DCT gearbox. He recently covered 300,000 km without having "open" the engine. The reliability of this particular motorcycle is representative of the old honda. Of course the reduced horsepower helps in this direction. Maybe engine torque is a fair compensation for the lack of power. It would be very interesting to have a presentation of you with her hybrid sister who listens to the name X=ADV. I will once again praise the kindness you show to the people who watch your channel! Thank you and I send you warm greetings from Greece.
HONDA'S NCs are an unusual range of motorcycles. For a start they've got an engine based on a car's. The starting point for the parallel-twin design was half a Honda Jazz engine. They have the character of a car engine too, with a bland power curve to a lowly 6,500rpm red line.
Great review. From 2013-2017 i had the NC700X DCT and from 2017 - the NC750X DCT. I have no plans of swapping it for the new model. Because it is still a great bike and my other bike i a GS1250. Sadly still no cruise control option for the new bike now that it is ride by wire.
When it first came out it replaced the Deauville NT700, Honda’s last mid range shaft drive. Honda emphasised its fuel economy. The latest improvements sound great. Thanks for a good review.
Great review, thanks. I’ve been using my fabulous 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports as a daily for the last three years. I’ve done touring, trails, off-road, pillion and it’s been great. But. It is very top heavy and extremely tall, even with the optional rally seat. Recently tested a new NC750 X DCT and ordered one right after the test ride. Yes, it was that good. I’m lucky enough to have several bikes but it was time to say goodbye to the AT in favour of something way more suitable as a daily. I’m doing less trails and I can always pick up a small capacity scrambler for those weekends blasting around on the gravel!
I love the idea of converting that 23 ltr storage space to a secondary fuel tank with 22 ltr's extra making the bike have 36.1 ltr fuel onboard! Super tourer AHOY!
Hi Scott! You are my number one reviewer, honest videos! 👌 It would be great if you could make an episode showing the gear you use to film your videos. Safe rides!
This bike makes a lot of sense especially now with the ludicrous fuel prices .I have as arthritis in my left hand so I think this could well be my next bike or maybe the xadv version .
This is my next bike. I sold my car and I’m currently commuting by motorcycle. There isn’t a more perfect option for me than the 2021 with DCT. I only wish we got this gorgeous blue in the US! But the red we do get as the only color is pretty nice.
Thanks for another great review. These bikes sell quite well here in Switzerland and I think the people who buy them are quite possibly better off than those of us with hp monsters because the speed limits in most of Europe are so strict these days that all the powerful machines are absolute overkill.
@Max S Northern Spain is great! So long as you don't speed through the towns, everyone is happy :-) (But my bike is not so quick anyway, so I don't have to worry too much :-)
Just discovered you channel and a fan, nicely different content. I have an ‘18 with a DCT but won’t change. Lowering it and making the already marginal room backside to feet still smaller is a deal breaker for this 6’2” guy, shame though as the improved seat and reduced weight are a step in the right direction.
As always, great review, I would appreciate a head to head comparission of this one, Vstrom 650, Versys 650 and Tracer 7... for commuting and long rides. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for a really great report as per usual. Was really hoping they added at least an option for cruise control this time, but obviously, they didn't. I use my cruise control without ceasing to prevent me from getting tickets just out of carelessness. Really too bad. I'm otherwise sold. Come on, Honda, now that it is ride by wire, cruise control is just software and a switch. :-(
I thought you were in Australia and had swallowed a few flies. Another great review. Was never a fan of the DCT but now am changing my mind. Pity they do not sell these in Australia anymore.
Spent sometime on a 2021 DCT model and I thought it would be an excellent commuter and sound all around bike. The bike was my friend’s motorcycle but disturbingly enough it would it would stop on occasion intermittently after a complete stop while applying the throttle. Honda USA gave him the run around and never addressed the problem. He sold the bike because he was afraid of an accident and a three weeks after that he found out that Honda acknowledged the problem after a few law suits. If your buying this bike do your due diligence or consider a non dct. I have lost faith in Honda after my buddy’s experience. I enjoy your videos, thanks.
Great review, thanks! I am seriously considering this or MotoGuzzi V7 850 as my next motorcycle, even though they are quite different motorcycles I can't decide what to go for since both to me look great and represent something very interesting.
I think you would buy one with your head, and the other with your heart....quite different motorcycles for sure.... The Honda looks as good as the MG? I think you need to borrow by spectacles :-) For all that, if I was buying a bike to ride everyday, I'd go with the Honda..... (full disclosure my Honda is 36 years old :-)
Yea, I have a problem getting my helmet into a lot of bikes hard cases, even when they say "fits a helmet" sometimes for me...sigh...no...this was one of those, I mean, I can force it but why make it right at the limit, just a little bigger and it would be perfect. 😒🙄 But other than that, I really do like this bike now!
I wish that it had cruise control. But I’m likely going to buy one anyway. I’ll see what changes they have made for 2022 then order one if there aren’t any in stock.
So in reality you could turn that 23 Ltr storage space into another fuel tank up another 22 Ltr's and have a MASSIVE 36.1 Ltr fuel onboard via the two tanks. I'd go down that road if I ever purchased one, but I would guess it would rule out any off road action then given the extra weight and top heaviness.
Great review, I wonder how it would perform in the twisties with some performance tyres and performance brake pads etc, yes I realise its not that kind of bike but would be interesting.
The lower seat height on this update makes it much more appealing to me as a short rider. I wish it had a touch more power though. I've been wanting a z900 or GSX-S750 for awhile now for that reason. But this Honda does make a strong argument as a commuter.
I have to say that your reviews are very informative and I find them also very grounded. I would be happy if you could get your hands on the new standard Honda Africa Twin with DCT and tell us what you think of it.
Another excellent video thank you. Now if this bike had 90 - 100hp, the improved honda tft screen ( seen on the x adv) & cruise control I would buy it in a heart beat > I would happily pay the extra 2k for these improvements.
Like your every review. If add some new colum. For handle bar vibration rating star. Five is full star. Especially after. 50 km journey. Important is rider comfort. Nice jobs
10:45 I’m sure if you had taken the manual out(plus whatever you had down there), you would have had enough room for the helmet, even with the GoPro mount on it… nice review, as always! ✌🏼
Great video. Fantastic on-board sound and vision! Not least, that 'rear view', with the stalk-mount! Great demo of the way you can override the DCT to change gear even in auto mode, which I discovered with pleasure on the related NM4 Vultus. Did you ever try one of them? I loved it!
i'd buy this honda but i'm waiting to see if the baby AT or transalp has more ponies. my full size 2016 africa twin needs a tech upgrade. i'm ready to buy but afraid i'd be disappointed long term for a step down in power. wait for the transalp? love your presentation.
it's got them stupid daylight indicator lights, I was test riding an Africa twin in the UK with those lights and got hit by a driver pulling out of a junction, and can you guess, he blamed me he told the insurance I was indicating so was my fault. the car hit my left knee and I couldn't walk properly for weeks. I like the NC750x if i was to have one i would run power from the rear indicator lights, this option is being discussed regularly on the Africa twin forums
Hadn't thought of that (as I'm not a camper) But, then again, I have to remove my tank bag to fill up too....where there's a will, there's a way .... :-) My 'tank range' is around 230 miles...by then, I've usually had 'enough' anyway :-) They shouldn't have put the filler cap under the seat, but to the side, so it was easily accessible.
Hi Scott, thnx for the review. I am looking for a economical and reliable bike for commuting a 170 km trip to work every day. I think this fits the bill. Riding a r1200gs now it will get used to the lack of power, but it all makes it good when the Honda only has to go to the workshop for its oil change where the BMW sometimes lives in the workshop (Beemer quality is inferieur to Honda quality). Would you go for the DCT or the manual?
I would have bought the 2020 manual transmission model in the states but American Honda did not choose to spec it with antilock brakes. (Only the DCT version has them)
I really enjoy your channel! I recently test-drove the NC750X and found it to be a significant improvement in all aspects of the previous model. I am now considering testing the Tiger 660. My riding consists of commuting and weekend trips on back roads in both the UK and France. If you were in my shoes, which one would you choose and why?
Thank you! Both are great bikes, both will do what you need and do it well and they cost about the same so it really comes down to looks and dealership - which one do you like better? I would pick the 660 cause I like that dealer better than the Honda dealer and the 660 is more spirited & sportier when I feel the urge 😁👍 Looks are subjective so go based on what you like and not what others say, after all you are the one that's paying for it and have to look at it every single time you get on it. take care, Scott
Hey Scott. Could you please do some more rides on the XR and pop footage up? We've been locked down for 230 of the last 300 days and I can't ride mine.👍👍
For the same reason the Tracer 9 is not in the chart. They are not crossover or ADV bikes, all the others that I compared are, the Tracer is simply just a sport touring bike and only that. 👍😁
Hi! Thanks for the videos and for putting in the efforts to share all the nice information. I have 2 questions for you, if you may please answer: 1) I am going to be moving to Hamburg (Germany) for long term and would really like this motorcycle as a daily commuter + weekend tourer. I ride a Suzuki GS150R at my home country and am planning for the NC750x DCT version with restriction kit for A2 licence (once I obtain it after moving to Germany). Question is - could you please give me some guidance regarding the approximate cost of ownership of a motorcycle this size (insurance, maintenance cost from OEM, any taxes or other costs?) That will be helpful because at the moment I can't seem to find much information about it. 2) Will it be possible to ride this motorcycle during the winters in Hamburg Germany? The place where I live right now doesn't get any snow at all and I know that the northern German winters are quite harsh. I have to figure out if this bike can be used for commuting all year round (I read that a different set of tyres are used on cars during winter but most motorcycles are just parked away on garage for the winter) Would be great to hear your thoughts. Thanks a lot. Regards and best wishes
I'm looking to replace my 1998 Honda ST 1100. It's just too much motorcycle for me now that I am over 60. Can you recommend a replacement, something later that is a sport tour and perhaps with a little less power? Many thanks, take care. And by the way I really like your , they are always very informative.
Hey, I had a 2001 Honda ST1100 back in 2001! Loved the bike although a little heavy compared to todays bikes like the BMW 1250 RT. The 1250RT is 45kg/90lbs lighter than the ST. So you might want to consider that, I loved it so much that I bought one. I did a 6 month review of mine: ruclips.net/video/KEA4aGj6Jec/видео.html I am finding the weight of this bike low and easy to handle, I'm 55yrs old, so we are not that far apart 😁 If you want to go even lighter/smaller, Yamaha 900 Tracer or BMW 900XR or to the ADV side the Triumph Tiger 900. Those 3 are 100kg/200lbs lighter than the ST1100. take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve yeah, thanks Scott. Good advice. Always a pleasure watching your reviews and easygoing Style. I've watched a lot of reviews on the 900 tracer but I am thinking BMW my last time around. I'll probably take a look at your recommendation for the 900 XR and see if I can dress it up with some hard case saddlebags and a bigger screen. Will probably need some hand protectors as well. Take it from me, you're in for a big change from 55 to 62. And my brother tells me I'm in for another big change from 62 to his age, 70. I think they call it just getting old. Thanks again and take care.
Thank you for this full(er) review and answering if DCT is switchable. I'm wondering now which model is the black and red color scheme? 2022? I think blue and silver was 2020's and red and black must be 2021. Because Honda is showing green and black for 2022. It only matters because I want a Black and red and not sure which year it is. Anybody know?....thxz again sir ;)
It depends on which country you are in? The Japanese 4 restrict colors to the U.S. and other countries. So what they are offering depends on the year and country. ride safe, Scott
I’ve just got my licence at 38 years old specifically for commuting and utility riding. Once I’ve got riding a manual bike down second nature I’m getting one of these, changing gears is just a pain for regular riding, but scooters feel all wrong to me as a lifelong cyclist.
Tracer7 is not a crossover bike. It's a flat out sport touring bike with no ADV intention at all. And this is not me saying this, this is the OEM, Honda and Yamaha. But I kind of agree with you if I were shopping I'd consider both bikes. ride safe, Scott
Great pro reviewal as usual, thanks Scott, if the NC falls as your "second "choice as a great comuter, I take your XR would be the first? I'm replacing my Honda DN01 , but still undecisive between those two above, driving me insane. Charles, from Canada
I have no clue as to how "they" (the OEMs) categorize a bike. Usually we do see some sort of consistency but sometimes NOT and it's this "not" that often confuses me.

The lower seat height on this update makes it much more appealing to me as a short rider. I wish it had a touch more power though. I've been wanting a z900 or GSX-S750 for awhile now for that reason. But this Honda does make a strong argument as a commuter.
Well Suzuki made 2022 gsx 950
Great review. Very thorough.
The two buttons missing are Set/Resume!!!
Yep, agreed!
Great review!
Fantastic review! You have earn yourself a new subscriber, sir! :)
There could be a bigger version with the 1100 engine, if it had the stowage in the tank plus cruise control… it would be just gr8888.
just wait for the nt1100
LOVE the style.
Like your every review. If add some new colum. For handle bar vibration rating star. Five is full star. Especially after. 50 km journey. Important is rider comfort. Nice jobs
Excellent review. Very practical bike pity not available in Australia.
I loved it!
great video men!!!
I really think that BMW should have a DCT gear shift option also. just imagine how sweet it would be on the 900XR?
It's a pity they didn't add in a shaft drive instead of a chain. In fact I still don't know why Honda gave up on the Deauville.
Too expensive
Salute! Very comprehensive sharing. Tq
So less suspension is now an upgrade?
Honda should add a hold button for the dct tran. When we tackle the sharp turn.
@@lupo. a must for every honda bike with dct. We want to lock it down. But the cpu up shift it self. Quiet scary. When down hill corner
great video!
i'd buy this honda but i'm waiting to see if the baby AT or transalp has more ponies. my full size 2016 africa twin needs a tech upgrade. i'm ready to buy but afraid i'd be disappointed long term for a step down in power. wait for the transalp? love your presentation.
Great review!
Big thumbs up!
it's got them stupid daylight indicator lights, I was test riding an Africa twin in the UK with those lights and got hit by a driver pulling out of a junction, and can you guess, he blamed me he told the insurance I was indicating so was my fault. the car hit my left knee and I couldn't walk properly for weeks. I like the NC750x if i was to have one i would run power from the rear indicator lights, this option is being discussed regularly on the Africa twin forums
For me the touring problem would be removing my tent to fill up with fuel
Good point.
@@paullee6663 I agree. I just hinge my tank bag up though
@@stevepovey2489 I Agree, even tho I have panniers, most of my kit is across the back seat.
Fantastic review 👍
Thank you! 👍
Great review
Hi Scott, thnx for the review. I am looking for a economical and reliable bike for commuting a 170 km trip to work every day. I think this fits the bill. Riding a r1200gs now it will get used to the lack of power, but it all makes it good when the Honda only has to go to the workshop for its oil change where the BMW sometimes lives in the workshop (Beemer quality is inferieur to Honda quality). Would you go for the DCT or the manual?
DCT all the way to go, no shifting is the best for a long distance ride
I love the DCT, it's so smooth and seamless, so I'd take the DCT 😁👍
I would pick the 660 cause I like that dealer better than the Honda dealer and the 660 is more spirited & sportier when I feel the urge 😁👍 Looks are subjective so go based on what you like and not what others say, after all you are the one that's paying for it and have to look at it every single time you get on it.
take care,
Scott
Extra liter of storage space in the compartment, too.
Would have ben great to See Fuel consumtion between them
Hey Scott. Could you please do some more rides on the XR and pop footage up? We've been locked down for 230 of the last 300 days and I can't ride mine.👍👍
i had the original nc700x and my xl HJC helmet fit no problem.
It’s sad that Honda didn’t upgrade the front end like they did the CB500 range and, of course, the display. Next year?
Always a pleasure to hear you speak and explain about bikes. One question if you compared it to 900 bikes, why not the tracer 700?
For the same reason the Tracer 9 is not in the chart. They are not crossover or ADV bikes, all the others that I compared are, the Tracer is simply just a sport touring bike and only that. 👍😁
I wonder if a bubble lid could be 3d printed to give more space in frunk.
Hi! Thanks for the videos and for putting in the efforts to share all the nice information. I have 2 questions for you, if you may please answer:
1) I am going to be moving to Hamburg (Germany) for long term and would really like this motorcycle as a daily commuter + weekend tourer.
I have to figure out if this bike can be used for commuting all year round (I read that a different set of tyres are used on cars during winter but most motorcycles are just parked away on garage for the winter)
Would be great to hear your thoughts.
I did a 6 month review of mine: ruclips.net/video/KEA4aGj6Jec/видео.html
I am finding the weight of this bike low and easy to handle, I'm 55yrs old, so we are not that far apart 😁
If you want to go even lighter/smaller, Yamaha 900 Tracer or BMW 900XR or to the ADV side the Triumph Tiger 900. Those 3 are 100kg/200lbs lighter than the ST1100.
take care,
Scott
Can you please test the 2021/2022 Suzuki V-strom 650 XT :) So many reviews out there, but nothing like "NothingToProve"!
can you turn that blue light off, it would catch my eye and i would think i've left my main beam on.
So is the YAMAHA Tracer 700 next for review? Asking for a friend 😁
I'll bee that friend!
Yes please, let's have a tracer 7 comparison
Thank you for this full(er) review and answering if DCT is switchable. I'm wondering now which model is the black and red color scheme? 2022? I think blue and silver was 2020's and red and black must be 2021. Because Honda is showing green and black for 2022. It only matters because I want a Black and red and not sure which year it is. Anybody know?....thxz again sir ;)
It depends on which country you are in? The Japanese 4 restrict colors to the U.S. and other countries. So what they are offering depends on the year and country.
ride safe,
Scott
@@NothingToProve thank for responding Mike, I'm not picky, it's just in my dreams, I'm riding a red and black Honda :) Thxz again
I’ve just got my licence at 38 years old specifically for commuting and utility riding. Once I’ve got riding a manual bike down second nature I’m getting one of these, changing gears is just a pain for regular riding, but scooters feel all wrong to me as a lifelong cyclist.
Hi, i am just wondering why didn’t you compared this also to Yamaha Tracer 7. I would say that one is the most direct competitor. Nice review anyway
Tracer7 is not a crossover bike. It's a flat out sport touring bike with no ADV intention at all. And this is not me saying this, this is the OEM, Honda and Yamaha. But I kind of agree with you if I were shopping I'd consider both bikes.
ride safe,
Scott
7:30 I thought the older version had a travel of 150mm, not 137. The lesser travel is the same as the S model, so the X isn't "adventure" but street.
No Wingbadge. Honda please put that Nice maroon Wingbadge on ALL Hondas. Branding is a Good thing
Thanks. I assume the front springs are stiffer and the angle from horizontal is lesser to give easier self centering ???
Yea, your probably right and I didn't notice the shorter suspension travel at all, I was surprised.
Great pro reviewal as usual, thanks Scott, if the NC falls as your "second "choice as a great comuter, I take your XR would be the first? I'm replacing my Honda DN01 , but still undecisive between those two above, driving me insane.
Charles, from Canada
Yea, you're right 👍😁
what criteria is used to determine to which market a motorcycle belongs to?
I have no clue as to how "they" (the OEMs) categorize a bike. Usually we do see some sort of consistency but sometimes NOT and it's this "not" that often confuses me.
Many say cb500x is the same. Extra weight w/ extra power for the nc; are the same, except for dct.
