are you still usingt he same computer from back then? I have a 2011 macbook, which is still doing well and hoping there is a Mainstage that can work for that? Your thoughts are appricated
7:04 Apple Silicon Mac Minis have been becoming very very popular in the past few years as well (especially for redundant setups), I’m honestly surprised you didn’t mention those especially since they can handle heat a good bit better than a MacBook as well.
Awesome vid. I use both Mainstage on my Macbook Pro & sometimes Ableton Live on my Windows Laptop for my live Keys Rig....two great gig interfaces that are fantastic for live performance.....thay never let me down.
does anyone here use Mainstage who isn't a keyboardist or has the laptop in front of them during a set? I'm a guitarist/singer...what's the best way to switch between patches on the fly during a set? I have a FS-5U and a FS-7 - I need some guidance!
Thank you so much for the interesting video. I ask you if you could also illustrate in detail how to connect the whole setup including mainstage? For example if I have a mac that I use with MAschine 2 and different libraries, maschine plus, komplete kontrol, a Kurzweil Workstation and an expander, how do I connect them in sequence to be able to drive them all with mainstage? Thank you so much and if you can help me. Luigi
Hi James! Do you have any experience with lighting effects? Ive been trying to break into incorporating lighting and video into my winter shows but I haven't been able to find any definitive information or guides in relation to this activity like I can find for audio (on channels such as yours). I have a rough idea what to do but I'm very much flying blind and just trying to do as much research as I can before making the plunge. Thanks!
I haven’t personally done any lighting or video but I have a couple friends that have done things like that. If you send me an email James@catherallaudio.com I can try and connect you with them!
Thank you for posting this useful video James, good job!! My 2011 macbook works fine for massive cubase tracks, and I dont wanna have to pay out another mac from the last 5 years, which is typical of mac. I am wondering if there is a Mainstage version that will work with my older mac?
You should be able to download a version that works with your computer if you go to the App Store, click your iCloud profile at the bottom left corner, then find the MainStage app and it should allow you to download the most recent version that will run on your computer/operating system.
Hi! I'm using a MIDI percussion mallet controller. Before to purchase MainStage, Can you tell me if a will be able to use a Foot Switch pedal to change patch while I playing? I saw your video about sustain pedal, but I can't find out about the foot switch. Thanks!
Yes, You just need to bring a pedal or button into the workspace in layout mode, assign it to the hardware pedal that you plugged in, then at the concert level in edit mode assign it to the "next patch" action and it'll change patches every time you press the pedal.
How do you get your audio out of your USB Audio interface and into the room? Can you plug a ¼ inch instrument patch cable from the audio interface’s output, right into the input of a clean guitar amp? (Or two guitar amps, if you want stereo?) I tried this and it sounded horrible and shrill. It sounds great going into my Presonus studio monitors. Should I just take a pair of powered monitors on the road with me? Or do you go straight from your USB audio interface into the house’s mixing board? How do YOU get your sound out of your computer and into the room? Thanks!
One possibility is to get something like Radial's KeyLargo which is a small, sturdy mixer that can take not only three stereo inputs but also the USB from your Mac and mix it in just like the other channels. Then send the main output to the Front of House and either let them send you a monitor mix or use the KeyLargo's monitor output to send all of the audio to your own (powered) speakers
@@CatherallAudio thanks! I'm just starting out on MainStage with the aim of playing live with the sounds I use in my studio. Your channel has helped me a lot.
Drat! Both my iMac and MacBook Pro are late and early 2015 models and are maxed out at macOS Monterey v. 12.7.4! MainStage is going to have to wait till 2025.
Due to an anomaly with my iCloud account and my wife's ex job email account, I've been robbed of MainStage since 2013 which is really important now that I've committed to some gigs in November and December (after 27 years away from performance). For $50 I'm hopeful this software will be enough for 3 gigs on an M2 MacBook Air and a backup 2013 MBP. I already have Logic Pro X and too many plugins. Wish me luck. $0.02
Hello, thanks for the interesting post. There is also a plug-in for MainStage with which a video can be played along with playbacks in a playlist (with a projector) and MIDI data can be output for control (e.g. light dimmers, effects devices). Mainstage came with Logic 9 so I opened it up and couldn’t figure out how to use it. It is like most Crapple products. You are on your own to figure it out. Never used it.
Great video! I'm a gigging keyboardist and I've been using MainStage for about 90% of my gigs since around 2012. It's such a fantastic tool.

Great stuff. I'm diving into Logic Pro, but also considering Mainstage for LIVE. Thanks. Leann.
Excellent overview of MainStage! The exact use of MainStage was somewhat confusing to me until I found this video. Kudos!

Can I use Liveloops with MainStage? How about live Loops when the loops are backing tracks for a live performance?
I can personally confirm... backmarket is clutch

what a great video!!!!! you do really good bro!!!
Hey thankyou for making this helpfull video!! My only question is: can you use mainstage without an internetconnection?? 🎶
You do not need an internet connection to perform with MainStage. You’ll only need it do download the sound library.

Do you know why the new Logic instruments (studio piano and studio bass) are not in the MainStage?
Logic and MainStage don’t always receive updates at the same time. Those instruments won’t be available on MainStage until then.

Is MainStage compatible with waves plugins?
Yes, it’s compatible with waves plugins.
Is there a Windows equivalent?
Gig Performer and Ableton Live are the closest equivalents that can be used on a windows computer.

You could do all of that on a MPC…💡
