Really confused about this as one of the companies offering a fully legal 15.5 mph throttle is advertised on electroheads website! I've got a 20 inch wheel folder but its a bit heavy for me to lift in and out the car now. The thing it has got in its favour over this one is a rear rack which makes it more of a daily shopper.

    8:20 I think Eilis is talking off the top of her head here: planetary gears are basically the same as a 3-speed Shimano Nexus rear hub, just in the BB area. They have as many fragilities as derailleur systems (& just try repairing them when they go wrong!), just not the same ones, & they're protected from the weather. & where's the front suspension? The rear suspension is a lame duck without it.

      Hub gears do tend to be much more reliable. The old Sturmey Archer is proof of that, and then on the high end, Rohloff is well known as THE most reliable gearing around.

    Thank you for this review, well covered. Would be nice if you guys start stating:
    1. Who is the manufacturer of the motor (like you did with the battery)
    2. What is the real-world range of the battery than the factory specs (which we know do not represent the real-world)
    Albeit great to have a competition for further innovation and price reduction, still way too pricey. It is for customers to take on the risk considering it is only a 4 year old company and still has high chances of collapse in the near future. Then customers are left with these e-bikes with no support and very few places willing to service them/fix. Especially the motor if made by the same company, who is going to fix that if something goes wrong? Look at what happened to Vanmoof bikes, and they had raised over EUR180mil with investors...

    • @FuriousGato
      @FuriousGato 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@andrewhamilton8954 why on earth any consumer would bother to fix the electric bike themselves. a) working on electrical parts is a health hazard and need to be carried out by a qualified professional, b) 99% of electric bike consumers are not interested to be fixing the product, especially without any instructions.
      If something goes wrong or make a mistake, you are putting lives at risk (e.g. wrong wiring of battery and it overheats).
      I’d rather buy a bike from Brompton, avoid all this headache and support our home UK manufacturer.

      Agreed. I want to like this as I want something with belt drive, rear or mid drive, and hydraulic brakes but the price is too high alongside the risk of the company going bust at some point. For this money I’d go for the smaller-folding, cheapest Brompton with a cytronex kit fitted

    • @theamateurboater5892
      @theamateurboater5892 11 месяцев назад +2

      Spot on. As much as I like the good quality battery, the hydraulic brakes, the gears and the belt drive, I cant get away from the feeling that at £2.5k this is just too close in price to the top-quality big boys like Brompton and GoCycle etc.
      In fact there is an ex-display gocycle at the moment for a little under 3k. And the superb Tern Vectron Q9 (with a 50nm Bosch motor in the bottom bracket) can be had for around £3k. The Vectron wont fold as small, with 20 inch wheels- but it will go onto a train folded, and quality-wise it probably beats the MiRider.
      If this bike cost around £2k I think it would probably sell really well, with those features.
      But at £2.5k? Not for me.
      I would move Heaven and Earth to find that extra £500 and get a brommie, Tern or Gocycle- which would probably still be running in ten years from now.

Great looker as well... Would be cool to be able to add pannier power packs with interface adapter that plugs in for longer electric range. Wonder if they make a marine version of a foldable eBike. Could one be made that also powers the dingy, and devices on the boat(windlass, winches, scrubber,...) Seems like an opportunity. Kind of weird thought, but then again could an ebike motor run a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, or other home appliances?

Also the fold on this is really quite a bit bigger than the Brompton - it was surprising this was compared to something like the GoCycle when the Brompton Electric is more closer as a competitor.
