- How to remove and clean a dirty and non-working Pedal Assist Sensor.
This was from a Fiido T1, but similar to many other e-bikes.
Symptoms were the assistance first stopped working, although the throttle was fine. Then it would jerk forward, even when stationary. After a while, it seemed ok for a few minutes, then stopped working again.
Simple job, but useful to have the right tool to remove the crank. I now carry this crank puller with me, so I can do this fix even if I'm far from home.
If you know of a replacement, that is more dirt resistant, let me know! Кино
Thank you for posting the video. This explains exactly my problem. I'll tackle it as soon as I get a crank puller. Hopefully mine has dirt or metal filings or something as well.
Good luck!
was it dirt?
I removed everything, electrically checked all cables (seem fine), There was a little dirt, but not enough (in my opinion) to cause a problems with magnetic pickup/sensing. I suspect it has/had something to do with the collar part of the sensor not spinning. That is, the crank is spinning (me peddling) and the collar was slipping and NOT spinning with the crank shaft. It's relying on a friction fit to work. It put a bit of glue where the spinning part off of the sensor friction fits over the crank shaft. Seems to work. No issues after 200km.
@@JKowala thanks alot for the reply i took of my crankshaft and looked for some dirt but there didnt seem to be a problem idk it maybe the collar not spinning ill check tomorow
Yes, after my first heavy day of rain, the T1 was on the blink due to effects of dampness. I had to seal up those massive holes on the housing going into the controller. I have a video I need to put up about it.
My Fiido L3 has the same sensor and becoming dangerous due to this problem, I am thinking of making some kind of gasket between the crank arm and the sensor; I am using a rubber O ring from the garden center at the moment.
cheers
Is there a way to by pass sensor
I don't think so. If you did it would either run all the time or not at all. It acts like a switch, so when you pedal it switches the motor on.
Did it solve the problem?
Yes,no problem after
@@nostalgicplastic4323 What happened? Ive got a similar pedal system on my ebike, i gave it a clean without dismantling it (brushed and stuff) and it started working again but jerks if i dont apply enough force
@@Holywinter792 maybe take it off and give it a thorough clean? If not, they are pretty cheap to replace. Good luck
@@Holywinter792 You will have to disassemble and clean the magnet, put some silicone grease in there before you close it up. Go to a plumbing store and ask for silicone grease, it has good waterproofing property.
I'll try this on my M1
