I finally met her tonight after once again, a phenomenal show. (Not my first time seeing her). We chatted for a bit; she thought she knew me...she recognized me.. We got a photograph together. She signed a CD. I cried. Basically, it was the most epic moment of my life thus far.
That Awesome! I have met So many celebrities. I worked in a very popular coffee shop near Paramount Studio. The best were always the ones everyone knows. I could mention names, I was just making them coffee. The worst were the local news "celebrities"
Also its interesting to observe you dont actually hear them crying and screaming, you only hear her singing. Its like shes got the control, perhaps, or that shes tuned out to the lies of their screams and crying. All their crying and dramatics falls on deaf ears, literally. This video is absolutely fascinating, so much in it to read.
It's sonically bracing..the musical equivalent of having your alarm clock replaced by a guy who wakes you up by dumping you off a cliff into the ocean...I like it. More please.
I'm 15, i love st. vincent's music and she is probably the prettiest woman i have ever seen, today i was in new york city and i looked across the street and saw st. vincent i was so excited i, it took me about three blocks but i was finally able to get up to her, she is even more beautiful in person and very nice
i think that the meaning of the song revolves around herself, not anybody else. she hasn't yet accepted herself as she is internally, so the 'actor out of work' represents the false image that she creates to comply with what is expected of her. it's like, the whole song is talking to the made up version of herself she's had to take on out of fear of not being respected and tolerated as her honest, true persona. essentially, the entire album, actor, is about figuring out who you truly are inside and being comfortable with expressing that outwardly.
i think that all of these people crying in front of her symbolizes all of the frustration and difficulty into loving herself and she is just sitting there talking to them stuff that she keeps telling herself. it's like she's all alone there and they're all what's in her head.

she is so amazing and intense live. i saw her at the El Rey Theatre in LA a couple weeks ago. The audience was practically hypnotized during some of her songs.
I have the 2nd release/album/cd, and can't wait to get the debut, which was out of stock when I hit the record store. God, what a talent. I got introduced to St. Vincent watching Austin City Limits a few years ago; this was during her first album/cd tour. I hope she can continue with this direction. Better than most out there right now. GREAT LYRICS AND GUITAR STYLE. Thanks for sharing. Tony from Sherwood, Oregon.
@@voodoosleeper I think she is still great, and I think she has evolved. Still has the essence of what got her on the map. Loved her on Saturday Night Live.
I like the casting session idea, getting them all to put on shows of fake emotion sort of ties into the theme of the song, about someone who's a liar and a cheat that she can't help having feelings for. Great song off a great album!
Pretty much I found who they were on Sunday!! I was changing the channels on my tv. when i heard her sing, I was like WOW!!! I loved it!! So Now I know more of their music. SOunds AWESOME!
Nah, Annie Clark's been really brilliant for YEARS already. The collaboration with David Byrne is really recent awesome news to a lot of people who've been fans back when she was Sufjan Stevens' guitarist and hadn't even recorded her own albums yet. When I was a teenager Talking Heads was one of my favorite bands, and at 41 I'm a huge St. Vincent fan, so her and David Byrne getting together is really epic for me.
one of the best albums yet this year - this song doesn't even do it justice. so good that i don't want to detract attention from how incredibly talented she is, but good god she's hot too.
I feel like this was a take on that one art performance done by Marina Abramović where she’d sit in front of a member of the public with no words being said, just staring at each other. Some people would start crying apparently and it kinda has a similar vibe to this.
my interpretation is that she is singing about people who cry, but they aren't really sad, they just want attention. they are faking it (so that's why she doesn't care). amazing song and band btw
I love how the top two comments are about the top two comments. Just kidding. It's kind of annoying how people don't comment on the video, but other people's comments. Here, I love this video. This song. She is the most beautiful person I've ever seen. Happy birthday.
Fuckk pardon my language but I love her style of music. Her voice is so calm and serene, and she lets the guitar portray the mood of her music. Its crazy, all-over-the-place, and downright schizophrenic. not many people do it like this!
To me she seems like an artists who will evolve throughout time and I wouldn't expect any album exactly like the last.
can't believe you said this 11 years ago! how right you were
Aged like fine wine!
and u were so right
This comment aged so beautifully
Show this comment to all the people who say “i miss the old st Vincent” whenever she puts out new content lmao

That’s so cool. Lucky!
still the most epic moment?
That Awesome! I have met So many celebrities. I worked in a very popular coffee shop near Paramount Studio. The best were always the ones everyone knows. I could mention names, I was just making them coffee. The worst were the local news "celebrities"
That was the most beautiful thing that I have ever digitally witnessed.
Nyla M groan....
Yeah. I mean it was a bit much.
hAH
Ooo a Regina Spektor fan
I SEE WHAT U DID THERE LOLL
Ironically the actors out of work in this video are all actually actors working
We got an Einstein over here.
+John Louie haha you're awesome!
+Lynda Lalich p.s rekt
holy shit lol mind = blown
Sean Justice What are you talking about man?
This song - and St. Vincent's work in general - is relentlessly amazing. Can't get it out of my head - in a good way. Am so glad to have found her!
AGREE. I'm wondering if "The Nowhere INN" (directed by Carrie Brownstone, "Portlandia"), is relevatory. Or mysterious. Or strange. LOL.
Also its interesting to observe you dont actually hear them crying and screaming, you only hear her singing. Its like shes got the control, perhaps, or that shes tuned out to the lies of their screams and crying. All their crying and dramatics falls on deaf ears, literally. WOW. Good read on it!
Dear St. Vincent...
I think I love you, I think I'm maaaad
First St. Vincent song I ever heard and fan ever since!
To you, I'd recommend "Shura - What's it gonna be".
Now you
Same here
this song is one of the most artful songs ever. comparing a deceitful lover to an actor out of work is so genius
Great song, interesting video
One of the best music videos ever made, FIGHT ME
WeeklyComedian No, I want to give you a hug for saying that.
a mitt romney ad was the ad for this video. I wanna cry
that jawline and cheekbones can cut glass

You got to meet her? That's Awesome!
Oh my God she's literally so cute and pretty in this vid like wow
Her live performances are amazing. Her band is amazing. I am amazed now. I was amazed from the start... when I first heard... xox
This is my favorite StV song ... today. It's my eleventh favorite ... I keep changing my mind.
The two gasps of breath at the start of this song are flawless.
I think I love St. Vincent. She is so beautiful.
i think that the meaning of the song revolves around herself, not anybody else. she hasn't yet accepted herself as she is internally, so the 'actor out of work' represents the false image that she creates to comply with what is expected of her. it's like, the whole song is talking to the made up version of herself she's had to take on out of fear of not being respected and tolerated as her honest, true persona. essentially, the entire album, actor, is about figuring out who you truly are inside and being comfortable with expressing that outwardly.
Love how short, sweet, and punchy this song is. Gets me every time.
This makes me feel alive.
As an actor this was my soundtrack for this quarantine 😂
God, 00:56 where she does a subtle head bobbing motion with that smile is so adorable
i wish this song was longer
This is hypnotic. And the clip. It's like AMAZING. Just the people crying, it feels like their acting is REAL. A bloody good song.
i think that all of these people crying in front of her symbolizes all of the frustration and difficulty into loving herself and she is just sitting there talking to them stuff that she keeps telling herself. it's like she's all alone there and they're all what's in her head.
She is so talented and beautiful. I must say I am slightly envious.
i always think about this video when i see actors cry
actually her best song ever

LYRICS:
You're a supplement, you're a salve
You're a bandage, pull it off
I can quit you, cut it out
You're a patient, iron lung
You're a cast signed broken arm
You're an actor out of work
You're a liar and that's the truth
You're an extra lost in the scene
Ooh, ooh
You're a boxer in the ring
With brass knuckles underneath
You're the curses through my teeth
You're the laughter, you're the obscene
Ooh, ooh
You're a supplement, you're a salve
You're a bandage, pull it off
I think I love you, I think I'm mad
You're a cast signed broken arm
You're an actor out of work
I think I love you, I think I'm mad
You're a boxer in the ring
With brass knuckles underneath
I think I love you, I think I'm mad
Thank you.
This has been my jam lately
Man she's such a good guitarist, and she's gorgeous.
I love seeing them all preparing to cry. A very clever music vid!
Oh my God I Friggin love You St Vincent!!!!!!
WHAT a FUCKING great ARTIST! ST Vincent is intense, funny, witty, complex. Did I MISS ANYTHING? LOL.
i think i've watched this...about...7 times in a row now? wow she is amazing.
she is so amazing and intense live. i saw her at the El Rey Theatre in LA a couple weeks ago. The audience was practically hypnotized during some of her songs.
I love how the beautiful verses are the ones full of the most passionate and "ugly" human sentiments. Well done video!
I have the 2nd release/album/cd, and can't wait to get the debut, which was out of stock when I hit the record store. God, what a talent. Tony, it's been twelve years. What do you think of the records she's made since this one?
@@voodoosleeper I think she is still great, and I think she has evolved. Still has the essence of what got her on the map. Loved her on Saturday Night Live.
Annie is a ROCK GODDESS🖤🖤🖤
I want blinking lessons from her
queen of blinking!
Woo, this is great, Annie's voice is so great and the song is quirky :D Guess whos going to be listening to St.Vincent for a week!
15 years later and this song is still badass.
the music video adds so much to the song it fits perfectly!!
The beginning is such a Stop Making Sense reference.
My Autobiography A Fanfic Fuck Yes.
My Autobiography A Fanfic nod almost as big as byrnes suit
God this video is amazing, the ending gives me chills each time
To apaixonada nessa mulher ♡♡ MDS QUE VOZ MARAVILHOSA ♡
The Asian-American woman is the most believable (and moving) crier.
But that's not the point. The video is absolutely amazing.
Deep. Fascinating. Music. Art.
One of the best songs of all time, in my opinion 😌
Just discovered St. Vincent two weeks ago...cannot stop listening to Actor now!
GOD! I started crying after this.
I am obsessed with this song.
I like the casting session idea, getting them all to put on shows of fake emotion sort of ties into the theme of the song, about someone who's a liar and a cheat that she can't help having feelings for. Great song off a great album!
she has such an alien look to her.... I love this vid!
Holy shit she is good. Why did it take so long to really hear her music?! So glad I found it.
Pretty much I found who they were on Sunday!! I was changing the channels on my tv. when i heard her sing, I was like WOW!!! I loved it!! So Now I know more of their music. SOunds AWESOME!

i absolutely LOVE THIS SONG!!! so amazing.
one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
If the mainstream was based on quality this type of rock would be mainstream
one of the best albums yet this year - this song doesn't even do it justice. so good that i don't want to detract attention from how incredibly talented she is, but good god she's hot too.
Even though I knew it was an audition the entire time, some of these reactions were incredibly convincing.
brilliant!

that little smile at 0:56 stole my heart
i'm crying while watching this right now, its so beautiful.
I'd say that they're the best, and have been for quite a while.
so talented. Amazing guitarist.
That was a pretty intense two and a half minutes.
her album is BEAUTIFUL
my interpretation is that she is singing about people who cry, but they aren't really sad, they just want attention. they are faking it (so that's why she doesn't care). amazing song and band btw
I really love the vintage style of music on this album.
I love how the top two comments are about the top two comments. Just kidding. It's kind of annoying how people don't comment on the video, but other people's comments. Here, I love this video. This song. She is the most beautiful person I've ever seen. Happy birthday.
greeeeeat song so simple yet catchy!
Not left in the dust. It takes time to get noticed if you don't have something flashy to put in peoples faces. I LOVE St. Vincent.
This hits the acting field on the head! So awesome.
2018 & this song's still on my playlist... I guess some songs just never get old 😂
Thank you for sharing that with us . :)
Confirmed new fan!
this lady has some fascinating facial expressions. And catchy song!
This video is so uncomfortably awesome.
I just mentioned this before I saw your comment. I haven't thought of that song in years.
Fuckk pardon my language but I love her style of music. Her voice is so calm and serene, and she lets the guitar portray the mood of her music. Its crazy, all-over-the-place, and downright schizophrenic. not many people do it like this!
I saw her live 3 years ago and was right up against the stage in a private ballroom. She's beautiful.
Wow, there's so much sparkle about this song. It's really addictive, I agree.
I can just watch this over and over.
hell ya! looks like u're absolutely spot on. the video makes complete sense now.
I personally think that the guy in the green with the long hair ( 1:57 ) is the best.
Love the video and the song.
4AD always sign amazing bands :)
She's so awesome!
I need this perfection. NOW.
