The BakenekoGO is Only $80, But Is It Good?

- This is the new Bakeneko GO!
Also, this is not a sponsored stream. I have sent back the board already to CannonKeys.
It's an interesting board, but it has a few problematic things about it. The finish isn't perfect, but it is soft touch for the black unit! The case also warps a bit due to the ticker injection molding, so this may be a HUGE turn off to some. But it does sound great and the battery life is impressive and it utilizing ZMK for its wireless factor is also a good idea. I feel like this is 80% there, just needs some final touches to make the case structure not warp and this would be a steal.

This board sounds great with minimal effort. Just lubed the stabs, put on some Baby Racoon switches, and topped it off with Osume Keycaps. The RGB underglow also looks great. But it does sort of resets itself after every standby mode. Like I'd turn the RGB off, then when it wakes up after being in standby, the RGB would turn back on.
would love for cannon keys to make a bakeneko "pro" that's got an upgraded finish from the standard model, plus maybe an external weight, and more plate options, bring this wireless option over, etc. The OG bakeneko 65 could use an upgrade and i could see people biting if they put out a nicer version that sits between the bakeneko and unikorn in terms of quality. That being said, this form of the bakeneko would be a fantastic bring-into-the-office board, which is what i use my kbd67 lite for these days.
Got the pc one and let me tell you. Its one of the best sounding boards in my collection and thee cheapest board. Totally worth it in my opinion
i would have to agree with you i think the same thing. what switches did you use?
@@zscept i keep going back to kailh bcp’s but I’ve really enjoyed all the scratchy switches. My second fav is mx purples, then nixies, hyperglide blacks, and gat uhmknowns
@@isstylertho nice!
How is the finish? My injection molded alu one was full of small dings and dents... Is PC lookin smooth?
@@kibiiii PC's is pretty nice , there's some smudges and stuff on it but for $80 with the PCB and plate, I have 0 complains
I'm just loving the fact that we can see some nice entry boards like these nowadays. Damn I'm impressed. I feel like good switches would still be necessary but still. Great.
If this came with 7u tsangan bottom row, I'd have ordered this on day 1. Hoping they update the PCB to support that
@@Havesomepizza i ordered a new pcb and plate to use in it so I could get tsangan and use a half plate
@@isstylertho No support for battery then unfortunately, at which point it is just a pc bakeneko lol.
Any reason why a Tsangan is an instant buy? I have been daily driving the KBDfans Tiger Lit since I bought it (over a year now) and it's my current favorite board, but I have no particular liking for the Tsangan row, in fact I miss having an extra button on the bottom row for Menu.
Mostly for looks for me personally, and also I don't need many keys, I use rows! @@AdezeosClips
@@AdezeosClips eh tsangan is a preference thing, and it looks good to many people in the enthusiast hobby
I have the BT60v2, a ZMK board. 1400mah battery. It goes through less than 1% per day; it has pretty good battery life.
I doubt they’ll ever do it, but I really wish CK would be willing to sell the case on its own, given they’re selling the PCB standalone for $60, you’d think they could easily sell the case for $30-40 and make a profit. There are plenty of folks (self-included) who don’t care about wireless, and would prefer not to have a fixed 6.25u bottom row.
I really wish it had hhkb 😊😊
That was my only gripe with it and that stopped my purchase
Always had a Special place in my heart for the Bakeneko Boards, soo good
The battery slots into the channel on the case. There is piece of adhesive to secure the battery.
i agree, that it would have made sense to fixate battery but just use some blu tack or similar to stick it to the pcb
My PC versions PCB bowed up in the middle with the space bar floating above the case and corner keys dip way below the case.
I mentioned in on my video as well.
Just seems like the QC on the nekoGO boards are not great. I thought I was the only one that noticed.
I'm really curious how this would sound with Alps switches.
Problem with those soft touch coatings is that they often degrade and become tacky/sticky after 5-10 years. Cameras often have a coating like that and it’s a headache trying to remove it.
Only thing that would make it better is if they had some B-list units that costed less but at this price point it’s already extremely cheap
That's basically my standard in a clack build!
All soft touch plastics I've encountered in my life were getting obnoxiously sticky and dissolving on a surface in a few years, some after three some after five years of use. Maybe that one is future proof, maybe not, time will tell.
What model are your glasses? I really like em
What do you mean by soft touch plastic? Is it like velvet / rubbered surface?
Yo alex i was in your most recent stream and you might be my new favorite streamer 😱
I loved watching this stream❤
I wonder will this wireless compatibility will work with MacOS I have bought a wireless custom keyboard but it can only connect with my Windows laptop bot my Macbook but my Keychron does both.
just incorporated molex connector on my zmk powered board, why do you hate on the molex connector? I want hear on the opinion to help on designing my keyboard
It has a very small window of rated mounts, which isn't ideal for a custom product that is meant to last! Thats really the biggest thing
@@alexotos oh, I heard that they are easy to lose their tension, however it is really hard to find such a low profile connectors on the market I think,
if only they had HHKB or WKL versions of it
will this be compatible with the wooting pcb?
Soft touch is a deal killer for anyone who lives in tropical climates - that stuff gets gummy after a year or so. Absolutely horrid to deal with on peripherals.
60% board but not 7u
very very very sad
Will an h60 fit in this ?
US only is a real bummer.
I am eager to know which brand the cork desk(keeb)mat is it and where to buy them... anyone?
I only know NovelKeys sells them but I just checked and only the mini size is in stock
200mah is more like a mouse battery, how?
She sounds beautiful
I went from full size, to 60, to 65, to TKL, and now I just want a wireless 60 and, if the battery life is decent, this looks like it's right up my alley. edit: The hidden switch might be a deal breaker though, not a fan of that at all.
That thumbnail pic is so unsettling…
BakenekGO to the polls 🤣🤣🤣
I'm afraid of soft touch. It might become sticky😢
Yeah I noticed that with my tablet keyboard that use softer touch plastic on the keyboard deck. It shreds down, scuffs, and peels and gets sticky etc. over the long term.
For my customs I've stuck with proper abs.
is it me or does he seem not impressed and annoyed with the NekoGO.
$80 for plastic?, meanwhile with $5 more you can get Bridge75 fully build with Alu body and 4000MaH battery
polycarbonate plastic is more expensive than aluminum you peasant, and its highly preferable to some people
its not the normal cheap abs plastic case u see on other plastic boards, its higher quality pc case and those do not sound worse than alu boards, do some research before u speak
200mah? What a waste, whoever made that decision needs to be fired. Honestly can't believe they think 200mah will last for any good amount of time, lmfao.
try to mod Wooting 60 HE please!!!
Cmon man 80$ for a plastic kit in 2024? Hard pass
Lmao that’s completely reasonable for a custom kit like this. Especially given it’s wireless capability
@@realandrisbiedrins u can get a fully built alu one with all wireless capabilities plus >3500mah batt at the same price tho 🤷🏻
@@JerelTeh Different audience, different prices. Don't forget that having to CNC polycarbonate is significantly more tedious than with aluminium too.
yeah thats crazy
Hopefully in 4 years we will be looking back on this and everything will be way cheaper 🙏
