Montreal’s ‘Central Park’ Mountain That Gave The City Its Name

  • Mont Royal is the geographical heart of Montreal and the origin of its name. French explorer Jacques Cartier climbed the mountain and gave it the name Royal in honour of French King François I in 1535. Nearly 500 years later, it is now a gigantic park with hiking trails, lakes, cemeteries, churches, historical monuments and spectacular lookout points that provide the best views of the city that slowly materialized around it.

Worth watching this clip again. I teared up when I saw people skating at the lake. Reminded me of the times when our teachers took us there for the day in grade school. Frozen toes, fingers and runny noses. Those ladies are unforgettable for giving so much.

Montreal is one of the great International cities in this world. I grew up in Ontario Canada about 50 miles from Montreal and I always loved the energy the the great vibes the great food and the overall ambiance of this great City. It sits right on one of the Great Rivers in this world the Saint Lawrence River which I grew up enjoying my Summers on water skiing fishing boating swimming having barbecues and bonfires at night right on the river. I have my French Canadian grandfather to thank for that great lifestyle. My Italian mother prepared these great five-star meals everyday and I thought I died and went to heaven every day of my life. I have lived all over the United States and I have found no place else that even comes close to this very special place called Montreal. It is truly a dynamic city that offers everything from the Arts to symphonies to all types of music. Montreal you are one classy City. One visit and you will be hooked by its charms it's natural beauty and it's incomparable surroundings next to one of the great mountains within any City Mount Royal.

Beautiful images, that bring back so nice memories... I got to know Mont Royal in one day; we climbed the mountain, immersed into nature in the heart of the city; we visited the Croix, we admired the beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River and the city at our feet, we had a picnic with the squirrels and crows, behind the Chalet du Mont-Royal... Then we went down to Lac aux Castors, watched a very lively dance class... Then we went down next to the cemetery, it was almost night... We took the metro and went back to Airbnb, it was a day memorable. Montréal vit dans mon cœur, pour toujours.
