    I’m glad you did knocked back down. They may very well end up closing their doors, because of how they treated you. They will be on the news, and I’m glad that they may end up being a business that closed because of their discrimination. keep up the good work.

    What an absolutely egregious case. I can’t believe they’ve dragged it on this long, and they refused to see sense enough to take what is definitely going to be the easier way out and make their premises accessible. I work in emergency management now, and part of that is learning crisis communication. An experience like this for a business is indeed a crisis for their reputation. Best practice in this case is to own up to what you have done, apologize, and promise to do better. This business has done the exact opposite and they are going to live with the consequences. Good for you for fighting the good fight! I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this, it’s an absolutely abysmal case of human rights violations.
    Your situation has made me think about the interesting contrast between where I live in Las Vegas and the Canadian provinces. I have had more access issues in Canada than I ever have had in the United States. at the same time, I’ve run into more inaccessible infrastructure here, but public attitudes seem to be much more enlightened about service dog laws. To the contrary, Canada seems to have better infrastructure when it comes to roads, crosswalks, buses, etc., but public attitudes towards service dogs are not up-to-date. It’s certainly an interesting contrast.
    Good luck with your case, I can’t wait to hear about your stunning victory in the future! We are all supporting you. 🙂

    Good. These people at the spa are, in my opinion, being completely unreasonable. By doubling down, they reveal who they really are, as well as their bias toward, or against, the handicapped community. You have been very selfless in your demands and incredibly reasonable. I am sure justice and right will prevail here. I am sorry you have to deal with all of this, and believe at this point you are owed some level of personal compensation as well. I would not have thought so initially, but given their continued mistreatment of you, and the stress they are causing you, I think you should seek some level of personal compensation. Thank you for fighting this battle.

    Good job Tamara! Discrimination will never be forgiven.
    Before I moved to a new country, the concept of discrimination seldom came to my mind. I used to be naive to think discrimination will never occurs to me, until I moved to a new country and became minority. Everybody can be minority. Tamara is not fight only for herself. She is fighting for everybody.
    I do not think I can be as brave as Tamara!

    I remember a year ago how frustrated you were when you had to explain this situation on camera. What that Spa did was pure ableism and very discriminatory on their part! I’m sorry you have to deal with this case because this business isn’t willing to fully and simply learn from their mistake and move on. As exhausting as it is, I’m glad you’re not back down and not letting them get away with it. Good luck with the case and hopefully SOMETHING good (accessibility and inclusion even, to be more specific) comes out of all of this, Tamara!

    Hi Tamara. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I cannot believe in this day and age people can be so cruel to another person with a disability. Who are they to say who can and cannot come into that building? I know how hard things can be, as i've battled with chronic illness myself over 20 years and for someone to try and make someone else's day worse is just beyond me. I don't understand them!!! I'm not sure if you remember me, I am the one who is working on a classical music academy (i'm also a published composer) and i'm creating music courses designed for music students who have disabilities (and creating courses for people who do not have illnesses too) I am currently working on courses for visual impairments and as long as students have even 10 percent vision in just one eye, they can attend the courses and learn classical music. I wasn't able to create courses for students with complete vision loss, but maybe that will be in the future! I hope so! I'd love to see a video on your musical abilities and for you to talk through how you have managed to be such an amazing musician! Love from the UK xx

I am definitely working on those videos! I know you asked before, but I want to make sure I’m presenting things in exactly the right way because more so than anything else music is the most important piece of my story and to me the most important thing I will ever share online. Know that it is definitely happening and it will come out hopefully before the end of the year.

    Hi Tamara! You are so admirable, thank you for fighting. Some places, are just unpleasant, how people, with a disability, get badly treated.
    Its so unfair, people can be so nieve, these people are so nasty, saying always the opposite, to others, when confronted. You, are so very right, to stick, to your guns.
    It is so very upsetting, that this continues, to happen.
    Sounds, like they, assume, that these, Poorly treated visually impaired, blind people, just will give up, without a fight.
    Any assistant equipment, is a part of the person using it, and they are, not aloud, to do such things, as stop,the use of these. Just, because, we cant see, does'nt mean that we are stupid, often its the opposite. We shouldnt have to face, these problems, created by other people. I was recently, at an annual meet up, to get to know new members, of the Blind, and impaired vision association.
    I was so sad, it was very upsetting to hear, how he members organising, the much at the hotel, were told one thing, then they did the opposite. Its these, no doers,

    well, here, I am commenting again in such a short time. Tomorrow, you’re a rockstar girl. You keep up the great work. Let me tell you a good story. I know we’re usually used to, in restaurants and pubs, having to deal with figuring out, what’s on the menu and what we want, usually dealing with attitude from the server, but having to go over it with us. Well, I had an experience in a place I’ll never forget upon the waiter, finding out that I was severely visually impaired, he took it upon himself to sit down across from me at the table and go over the entire menu with me. I never forgot that restaurant or that server. For all the people that can’t seem to figure their way out of a wet sack, there are those who make up for them. I’m sure that if I could see your curls in your lipstick, I would tell you you look gorgeous too. Keep it up!

    Its too bad Canada does not have organizations like the ACLU or the Institute for Justice. If you did this would have been on the front burner very early on. If it had been me I would have been on the phone with the local media and had it blasted all over the airwaves. I would also be going for the maximum penalties allowed and once I won every thing would modify my demands down to the level that you are setting. By the way, I love the curls! Stay strong. But just because people take untrained dogs in public doesn't give them the same excuse to discriminate genuine Service dog users. That would be like me deciding that someone can't bring a mobility aid or an oxygen tank or something into My Home because it could be fake. It's no excuse! And if someone does do something wrong, they should be the ones to be punished, not the entire group of people who are doing the right thing. I have a rule now, that if someone can't accept my mobility aides with me, then they are not my friend, and I will not visit them. I'm sorry, but if we don't make people accountable, they are never going to learn. And if people lose many friends, they will start wondering what they did wrong and actually fix their lives to gain their friends back if they want to be decent people. I don't mean to be harsh or nasty, but we have to teach other people to do the right thing somehow.

    This is just nonsense. Number 1 an actual service dog is trained to help a person get around. They aren't there like a regular dog. They are on the clock and are working to keep a blind person safe. Number 2 saying a wheel chair user can't come in is crap. In the US we have very strict laws that buildings have to provide equal access. That may mean a ramp or an elevator. Also commercial doors have to be at least 36 inches to accommodate wheel chair or scooter access. This spa is just rediculous. They are in violation of the law and they are still fighting it.

    • @nbcoalitionofpersonswithdi2861
      @nbcoalitionofpersonswithdi2861 9 месяцев назад

      But this isnt in the US_ Here in Canada, people use to just do the right thing. People have become too much like our neighbors and thus we ow need laws enforcing in. The Federal law just came into effect...and depending which province this is (I have a feeling based off the video its the spa in Moncton NB that is disgusting and ableist..) but NB doesnt have an accessibility law. Trust me I know I am pushing for it. Our Premier was to have it introduced 4 months ago, yet the draft still isnt complete. Only NS has an ACT to date and because it is new, accessibility requirements will not be the "law" until 2040 on a National basis, and 2045 in NS. We are likely looking at 2050 in NB. I will be long dead by that point but it wont stop the fight just because I wont get too use it. I only became disabled in 2018 and was in shock at how little we had in terms of rights. I blame it on the strength of the disability industrial complex in Canada.

I have a pink undertone because I have no skin pigment so what you usually see is a lot of redness because of blood in my face. So typically I will wear something that is neutral or warm undertoned. However it can be very challenging to find makeup that works and isn’t too orange. I would suggest looking at Kat Von D’s lightest shade if she’s as fair as I am.

    I personally think you should take this all the way. I'm sorry it's exhausting for you. In saying that, people need to learn that there's consequences for the discriminating against persons with disabilities. Since people with disabilities have human rights and have the right to have a mobility device or Service dog with them, I believe you should do anything possible even to make this spa close its business for being so horrible and discriminatory and nasty. it's not about having more rights than other people. It's about being treated like a human being.

  • @theblindtech
    @theblindtech 10 месяцев назад

    Is a point in time that you should learn that in certain circumstances, you’ll just have to leave your guide dog at home. You could still use a cane as a back up. I am totally blind, but sometimes you just have to use common sense in certain situations and taking a guy dog to a spa where you’re not going to be working it is not appropriate and not an excuse to have it in the spa. Just for your emotional support.

    • @UnsightlyOpinions
      @UnsightlyOpinions  10 месяцев назад +2

      I think in this instance our opinions are going to differ. I agree that there are times that it is not possible or appropriate to bring a guide dog. Loud concerts, chemistry labs, anywhere the guide dog would have the potential to be imminently in danger, etc. However this is none of those. When you are in your home city you may have the option to leave your dog at home, but when you travel it’s a completely different story. First, it is neither safe nor allowed to leave your guide dog in a hotel room unattended. Second, this is not a spa where you just sit in one spot for an hour it was a large campus with a complex environment which I wanted my guide’s assistance to tackle. Third, this location was over an hour away from our home base for the trip which is much too far away to leave my guide unattended. There was no one available to stay with her so I wasn’t going to leave her by herself unmonitored for several hours. Fourth, we had many other activities for the day which I required her for, which would not have been possible driving over 2 hours to pick her up afterwards. Finally I take my guide all over the place as an independent traveller. Even when I am doing activities with other people, I don’t like to use sighted guide. I prefer my independence and to navigate my environment without others’ assistance. I want to get to the restroom, grab a drink, go do what I want without wanting an escort which my guide dog allows me to do. To say that she would be with me for emotional support only would be blatantly incorrect.

    • @SuperMichelleDJ
      @SuperMichelleDJ 5 месяцев назад

      Guide dogs are not emotional support animals. Guide dogs are mobility aids. If they support your mobility, you don't have to leave your dog at home, unless you want to. Choosing to leave your dog at home is different from being discriminated and being forced to leave your dog at home. I'm sorry, but I must disagree with everything you have said. Your guide dog is there as your mobility and how you treat your dog Isn't other peoples decisions to make. I agree that us blind people have to make decisions every single day, but that doesn't mean other people can take over and make those choices for us.
