I had a recent experience where the fact I can't legally drive forced me to feel incredibly helpless. In hindsight, it was traumatic but I'm okay now. I don't think sighted folk or non-disabled people understand how difficult it is. So sorry to hear you've had these obstacles thrown in your path, but glad to hear you're okay and moving forward. Sending hugs!

The DIY nerd in me can’t wait to see your renovation work! I hate you’ve been through so many setbacks. Sewer backups are awful. We’ve had 3 in 2 years. Thankfully contained to the shower and toilet, but it still took a couple days to get the smell to go away. I can’t imagine how long it took for yours with so much damage. I hope you’re in for smooth sailing from here on out.

Hi Tamara! Good to see you again! My wife asked a week ago if we had heard from you and I had to shrug. I'm so sorry for you and the people you lost last year, that is never easy and you have my deepest sympathy. It is the sideways things in life that define us. They are very hard at the time but once you are through they are your largest victories and things that you will remember and the experience makes similar things easier to get through in the future. We support you and we are here for you even if you just need to vent a little. I'm looking forward to sharing some of your experiences and giving you moral support when you need it.

True wisdom. Absolutely I have learned more from the things that have gone poorly than the things that have gone well. Each and every one of them has brought me to where I am, and although I would have traded each and every one of them for something else in the moment, I am glad I didn't have that choice, because I grew as a person because of it. Thanks Eagle!

As for me, my year hasn’t been as challenging as yours but my neuropathy has gotten so much worse that I no longer have enough fine grained feeling to read braille which makes times that I’m deaf as well as blind extremely challenging. Hi Kim! That's amazing! People who care about accessibility in design are heroes in my book! It makes a tremendous difference. That makes for a great video idea! I'll definitely work on that, but the long and short of it are I prefer straightforward layouts main hallways with branched rooms, not a lot of clutter or things that stick out along walls, as that is where I like to trail as a cane user. I love when there is a change the texture in flooring or for my low vision friends, change the contrast on the floor to differentiate new areas. Also I avoid high pile carpets like the plague as a wheelchair user. Braille/tactile signage makes a big difference too. Hope that briefly answers your query. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to write back. :)

First, I wish you a hopeful, restful, easier 2024 and beyond. I love your content. As a legally blind and physically disabled woman, I feel so much less like a unicorn when I see your content. I would love to see a comprehensive video on guide dog use with a wheelchair, including who or what organization is training them in the United States, Canada, or UK. My husband and I are looking for a more accessible home, so in addition, I would love to see a video about that once you get it edited. Accessibility is usually never out of date is it? Thanks again for doing what you do!

    • @UnsightlyOpinions
      @UnsightlyOpinions  3 месяца назад +1

Thanks so much for reaching out! I very much feel the same. Creating content and connecting with folks with multiple disabilities has made me feel so much more "normal" in my own body. :) It's a process I am trying to figure out as well. There used to be several schools that did it, but now all of them have closed their wheelchair guide dog programs. It's so frustrating because many of us would benefit from a wheelchair guide for so many reasons. I will definitely update when I have something that can be shared on that front. Please let me know if you find something too! As for the accessibility in our home, I'll definitely have that edited together soon. I think I'm going to split the video because what I have right now is a little confusing haha. So look for one talking about accessibility before and after and one on using power tools and construction coming soon!

Hello Tamara. Nice to see you back on. I have missed your upbeat presentations.
I am not sure how you made out with the Orcam, but I have found short falls that reduce its usefulness. I found it hard to align to the printed page if there was any daylight. Also the AI word recognition was very poor in a lot of occasions. It was so bad that it was difficult to tell it was the same story. It read I'll as 1,11. Even though it did allow me to read a book, it did make it difficult to understand.
Having done a number of Reno's in the past, I think it is fantastic that you would even attempt to do a whole house. Good luck and I look forward to seeing it as you progress.

If no one wants the Orcam device, you could try blind bargains, they don't ship things to the UK as far as I know but it might work if you're in the US/Canada.

#giveaway (I know, it's too late, but) ... I just subscribed after watching your original Orcam video. My 90 year old Dad has pretty bad macular degeneration, so I would give it to him. I will be going over your other videos. Even though the Orcam is too much $ on some levels, it could solve many of his problems. If I can find more positive reviews, then I will ask him if he wants one. I hope Orcam has a return policy where if it doesn't work out after a month then you can return it. Don't want to get locked into a contract for something that serves no purpose.

Hi Tamara, fly chick here from Toronto. I would really love to win your or cam three. As I can’t see anymore, I would use the OC cam to find things in my cupboard. Right now I’m mostly use Be My Eyes and it really sucks to always have to call a volunteer and ask them what I’m holding in my hand. So hopefully you will pick me. i’m only subscribed on RUclips.
I am sorry that you had so many troubles last year and that your human rights issues are still ongoing. I was hoping that you had resolved your human rights issue and I could hear the good news. So sorry that you lost a family member this year.
But on the sunny side, congratulations on becoming our first time homeowner. I know when my husband and me got our first house in 2000 30 I think it was 2007 that was the best thing that ever happened because I no longer had to rent apartments and could design the space as I saw it. We could paint it whatever colour we wanted and put it whatever kind of wallpaper there was and our dog is could run free in the backyard.
I’m glad that you’re back on RUclips and I will hopefully be enjoying more videos such as how you design your space to accommodate your wheelchair and be blind friendly. I would also like to hear about blind friendly appliances. I don’t read barrel, but I really want to have that Amazon microwave that you can tell Alexa heat microwave on high for two minutes.
Anyway, hope to hear from you soon.
    Thank you, Janice

#OroCAMgiveaway. Hello. I am so glad that I found this channel! I have Keratoconus. My vision in my right eye is minus 128 and in my left eye it is minus 125. I can still see colors and movement but if someone is standing more than half a foot from me, I cannot see the details of their face. I am going to obtain a puppy in a few weeks and am planning on having him trained as a service dog in a few months. I currently live alone in the house that I inherited from my parents. I am sorry to hear of what a tough year 2023 was but I can relate to the broken pipes fiasco. I took had a pipe freeze and burst when we came out of a deep freeze too.
I would use the OroCam devise to be able to train my dog better and to do some online lessons. Reading is difficult but I do it anyways.
Here's to a calmer more productive year for both of us. I am looking forward to more helpful videos from you.
    Keep the faith.

I also have ocularcutanious albinism, and I think I would greatly benefit from the orcam read 3. I am legally blind, and am a high school student. It will definitely help with school, and even more importantly, I am going to college soon, and it would be an awesome piece of tech to have. I am subscribed to you on RUclips, but I do not have any social media though. Is that okay? I also live in the United States. Finally, I would like to thank you for what you have been doing. I really enjoy watching your videos, and I am always looking forward to the next.

It took over a decade of very careful saving and planning to make it work. A lot of sacrifice with this specific goal in mind. I haven't taken a proper vacation in that long, no small or large luxuries like coffee or new clothes, and a whole lot of side-hustles all contributed a little to the big goal.

you've been through a lot and i wish i could help i get not feeling safe in your own house its scary while i dont have my own house being blind and not being able to hear things well its a nightmare suddenly hearing a voice i dont recognize my family says i over react but that person could very well be a murderer" i for one had quite a bit of highs and lows last year, lost the tiny bit of remaining vision and.". not long after had to undergo a surgery to get rid of my left eye cause it hurt a lot like a lot got a prosthetic best decision ever, tried a bunch of things that didnt work chat gpt sort of came for my work despite that had the best year financially was able to fund my surgeries myself umm learned marketing that didnt quite work web development that kinda worked got my first client for that, got really good at editing audio started a horror story podcast out of all things lol a few people listen to it. but it was messy had my hands stuck in so many places one bad day and everythng goes kaput" got denied a savings account they just couldnt believe im the one doing all the work. umm got a new piano after 3 years of running away from music" a lot i cant write everything. and you're really strong you really are it takes a lot to get back up knowing you have to and no one else will do these things for you its a weird life but we can make the best out of it" we can try to. stay strong much love"

@@WeAreAllDoomed-n5i heya just did a quick google search and while i cant look at it it does sound quite good and has good reviews also a bit pricey at 900 something and you could get that if ou're serious about music and are not just starting out cause thats some money right there and you should be able to get good value and use out of it. i however got something more on the budget side of things a yamaha psr e373 goes for around 200 something but the taxes are weird where i liue and it ended up costing more than 300 but still good value i mentioned i have a impaired hearing and it sounded pretty good to my broken ears and checked all the boxes for me with midi and audio over usb touch sensitive and uery good main voice. i was looking at the yamaha p series before the p125 is good but a bit old at this point the p225 just came out its around the 600 mark though i would highly recommend shortlisting some models and going to a music store to check them out physically so you know what you're getting and if you like it awsome. i would also check out some reviews and make sure it checks all the boxes and does what you need it to so it can serve you reliably" im happy with mine hope you can find a good one soon
