    Take away the fact that this was a SCF game and it was very typical of Florida for a first game at home after a long road trip or long break ( 3 days or more). The team very often starts slow, and builds to look a little more like themselves by the end of the 3rd, and then will go on to have 2-4 games afterwards where they are playing lights out like a machine. The only difference here is the stage, and Bob being a brick wall. Point is, Edmonton saw the worst that the Panthers will offer this series last night. Not saying Cats are guaranteed to win, but if Edmonton expects Florida to look like they did in the first two periods just because they themselves bring the same level of play, they are going to be surprised. Skinner is gonna have to be perfect, because the Cats offense will wake up come game 2.

    • @Kevin-nk6lj
      @Kevin-nk6lj 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@bobdobalini Thats not quite true. the oilers first is usually their best because they ease off int he 3rd due to a lead they gain in the first. if they are down by the third they stay on the gas. that stat is worthless because they usually always have the lead in the first. Bob is just a beast. If the oilers can tighten up and stop the give aways and sloppy plays they will stop the panthers from scoring.

    • @esperago
      @esperago 7 месяцев назад +9

      Accurate. The Cats beat the Oil while operating at like 70% of their capabilities. The Cats should have a better second game, as that's always been their style to rebound better. What happens when the Cats are at 100%. This was the Oilers at 100% and they lost 3-0. People can say what the like but it only takes four W's to secure the Cup and it doesn't matter how a team gets them.

    Before the game my cousin, who I was watching with, called out the move to put Nurse and Ceci back together as puzzling, since they'd been bad together every time that pairing existed. Sure enough, both goals that beat Skinner were on plays defended by Nurse and Ceci. By some combination of them not trusting each other, not reading each other well, or both being too offensively minded to play without a defensive stalwart to compensate, they managed to put Stuart Skinner in the crosshairs of two incredibly dangerous chances that only the greatest goalies could be expected to stop by anything other than dumb luck. Sucks to be Skinner, but Knobby what are you doing putting that pairing back together?

    I am not taking anything away from the Oilers, they have done what most teams haven't been able to against the Panthers. However, the Panthers play a style that is meant for this. They don't play all out, they play smart. They know they don't need to outscore you 7 to 6 to win games, although they can. They can be pinned in their zone and win like they just did. Oilers threw the kitchen sink and still got shut out. Watch as this series goes on how this plays perfectly into the Panthers. They've done it to everybody they've faced this post season, this will be no different. For the Oilers to win the cup they will need to do this, and kick it up another notch or two for the remainder of this series, because trust me, the Panthers do have a notch or two or three left.

    • @ItsJustMe0585
      @ItsJustMe0585 7 месяцев назад +1

      They only need to figure out how to get past Bob if the rest of the Panthers play that that through the series. Oilers outskated them, outshot them, stayed in their zone most of the game, but Skinner started out a bit jittery (once he settled in he was solid), and Bob did some incredible flippiddy crazy saves. Very impressive, but a playoff's run cannot depend solely on 1 player. This is going to be a very even match, and I'd not be surprised if it goes to game 7.

      @@ItsJustMe0585 You make a lot of risky assumptions, most of which are foolish and unthoughtful. They, the EDM players, won't face the same Panther squad in game 2. Not like that. Major adjustments to the forecheck system will ensue and curtailing the breakouts will happen. I've seen it for the past 2 seasons with Paul. You haven't . You don't even know who our 3rd pairing is, so stop acting like you've seen Panther hockey for the past 10 yrs. You haven't. Good god, you EDM fans. Bob was set up properly in most cases by a defense who made it EASY on him to read your shooters. Never once did I hear a PING from my seat. Maybe once, but I found it amazing he was that locked in. He did that ALL last playoffs. Every game. Every goddamn one. And here you are proclaiming WITHOUT evidence, he can't do it again in a 7 game series. YDKB
      I'd be more concerned in trying to turn Skinner into Shesterkin. Because that's what YOU are going to need. Can you do that? Can you guarantee it? No? Well...tomorrow might be a horrible nightmare for you.

Keep clearing the puck out of your defensive zone as quickly as possible. Be confident that your goalie will make the saves. Hockey Psychology is one of the least biased hockey channels on RUclips has he analytically and tactically breaks down each teams play in his videos. You must be a Florida fan who doesn't understand hockey and only checks the scores rather than watching the game and thinking how each play affect the series at large. While Bob only needs to be that sharp for 4 games to complete this years playoffs, I doubt he does that for four games in a row. That was an all-time playoff goalie performance we just watched. The Panthers have a very good chance to win it all after that first one, but getting 3 more wins against Edmonton is going to be Florida's toughest challenge all season and maybe in their Franchise's history! Having played college-level goalie, I can say with confidence that a great goalie performance can erase shortcomings in other areas of a team playing below their usual pace. But there’s this thing called “the odds.” The oilers have odds in their favor if they keep shots on goal solidly high like in game 1.

    The 75% stat is not predictive, it's revisionist in that the winning team, the team that wins 4 times, usually collects 1 of their 4 in the 1st game. This is true of sweeps as well as 7 gamers.
    This does NOT mean the Oilers have a 25% chance of winning (it's actually 0% if Bob plays like that lol)

    Just my opinion as a hockey novice - Panthers had their hands full the first 2 periods. Their forecheck was basically stifled and Edmonton is just precise and very quick. It wasn't until the 3rd that I noticed a drop off from Edmonton. The panthers had the ability to push the forecheck a few times. The 2 goals scored were opportunistic, however they seemed well crafted. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. However it plays out, it looks like this is going to be a hell of a series. As a hockey fan, what else could I ask for?

    tbh I think game 1 was just both teams trying to get a read on each other. Panthers want to see how the Oilers would set up their attacks, and Oilers want to see how the Panthers would set up their defenses (and whether they would go out of their way to target McDavid). Both will take the lessons learned here and make the necessary adjustments. Game 2 will be more telling as to who is the better team.

    You folks who think Edmonton is going to fold didn’t watch every game this season like I did , from 2-11-1 to start the season to now and a 16 game winning streak in between, this team is battle tested , this wasn’t the oilers best game , this is how they play all the time , the puck doesn’t always bounce their way but they are relentless , and the oilers can play it any way you want it better than anyone, fast and skilled or down and dirty, oilers were lazy on a couple backchecks last game they will fix that , Dallas had us down 2-1 in the series, we didn’t panic , we just won 3 in a row.

    I don't think anyone would say Bob was "absolutely dialed in" in the first minute. His very first play was a direct giveaway lol. Every vid has a take or so like this where you make me go like..huh?
    But I'm not here to just bash on your vids - I still think you're the best NHL short-take YT channel. I just want to give you both constructive criticism as well as praise (which you get plenty of from everyone else). What I liked about this vid was comparing the bump-pass quick breakout to the Rangers and having the clips back-to-back to emphasize that point, as well as the PK/PP breakdown and highlight on Officer Bob's excellent tracking.
    The Cats really got away with this one. Whenever Bob made a huge, uncharacteristic flub (he made at least 3 really bad plays), his boys were there to clean it up for him. When the team D let in a man behind them (which was also uncharacteristically often), Bob was there for them. So between Bob and Cats defense, they never made their uncharacteristic huge mistake at the same time and were in fact clutch to make up for the others' mistake. That stole them the win IMO. Once they got into the 3rd period, the Cats really got back to their usual game.
    I think the Cats win the series if they continue to stabilize and play their game, reign in the poor discipline from Game 1, and just keep chugging.
    I think the Oilers win the series if Knob/Coffey fine some huge adjustment (a la Dallas series post-Game 3), and/or if McJ+Drai trascend reality. Otherwise their lazy D still pops up here and there, like Kane not covering ERod for the 2nd goal. Super lazy, totally unacceptable in SC Finals hockey, Knobby should be pissed.
    Look forward to the rest of the series, hope it goes 7!!

    The elite level of execution in this series is so tight that any indecision or drop in effort is immediately fatal. God i hate this narrative. The Oilers threw everything and the kitchen sink at Florida and they still came away with 0 goals. This isnt a "solving Bobrovsky" problem, this is a "solving Florida's defense" problem. Not once were the Panthers rattled by the few breakaways they managed to let through. I feel like I watched a completely different game than everyone else because the vast majority of Edmontons chances were so non-threatening (even the breakaways were all thrown at Bob's pads lol). And you could see it in how Florida was playing... They came out expecting to get peppered. I would not be surprised to see this same thing happen next game and watch the Oilers frustration levels boil over (you could already see it in that 3rd period). The Panthers know what theyvare doing.

    If Florida stops over checking in the neutral zone, those breakaways disappear. Part 1 of the adjustments.
    Florida will make faster passing adjustments to defeat the Oiler forecheck since, its really a mirror of their own truth be told. Avoiding the PK, even though Fla is excelling at it, will really be key. Keep it 5v5 and getting back to working the cycle game as they did in the third. Sitting in my seat I was really disturbed by how bad we were playing even ahead 1-0 after 1. As we got the the 3rd and I saw Knoblauch blink I knew that game was over. He made a key coaching mistake and threw all his chips in on Pocket Aces and you never ever go all in on pocket aces. Game to Paul Maurice there. Mcdavid was exhausted at the end of the 3rd and the Oilers faces showed their defeat. Sometimes you win a game you don't necessarily play your best game. It is what it is. I am sure Oilers make a few adjustments as well, but frankly I can't see them playing any better than they did. Fla made a lot of errors and didn't play really all that good and Monday night, they will look a lot better than they did. Barkov however looked very good. Incredibly good Is that gonna be reflected in the outcome?
    I don't know and neither do you, but it bodes well to go up 2-0 and hold home ice and head to WETF it is EDM is because Fla plays exceptionally well on the road.
