Vivien, MA is actually an incredible card and even featured in some CEDH decks. 2 card combos, grand abolisher, or stacks pieces are easily found. It’s also a cast trigger so the tutor is uncounterable - just stifle effects. Love this card.

The cherry on top for dauthi voidwalker that i realised while playing it, is that if you play it, exile some stuff, somebody kill it or you use it, and you reanimate it afterwards, you can play all the previous cards you exile with it since they have counters on them
Great ideas in this one! I’m loving your shift toward more mid power and mid speed games, this advice lands closer to how my tables are usually playing. Gonna pick up at least a few of these, my Scarab God deck definitely needs Incarnation Technique. Mayhem Devil is already great in my Prosper deck since I sac lots of treasures once I’m rolling, and aside from Chishiro, I run Anarchomancer in my Rienne Naya gold creatures deck and it hits every creature with generic in its cost.
I remember a time I had it out and someone at my locals played deranged hermit then played a black creature that deals damage equal to the number of creatures. Artisan ended up taking out that player because of the order he played them in.
Old Stickfingers is absolutely incredible. I run it in my Meren deck and the fact that he mills X "creature" cards, it makes it unbelievably strong. Also, Nesting Grounds, I will always point out on any MTG post comment I make is seriously overlooked. It is an incredibly strong utility land that can move counters around when you have counters doublers or things like hardened scales or pir. Pir with doubling season can already ult most walkers, but if you're running something like Sisay super friends for 5 color walkers, there are some that don't immediately ult without dying, nesting Grounds pir and doubling season allow you to turn 1 loyalty counter you move off one walker or saga and turn it into 4, add Vorinclex into the mix and you have 8, even if that's "magical Christmas land" there is still plenty of moments where people have turns that something like this is possible, and critical mass combos are pretty common and win a lot of games. Nesting Grounds should be an auto include into those decks and people have just now discovered infinite turns with nesting Grounds, something I pointed out when the land was first spoiled. I bought 190 copies and pulled several from collectors boosters, gave away about 20 copies to friends, still have around 180-190 copies and that stack of lands is now worth more than 600$. Get copies of nesting Grounds before it's price reaches that of cards like field of the dead. It's just as useful.
@@NitpickingNerds It really is though. I told my buddies to invest in a few copies, but they never did. I've already hit like a 600% gain on my investment lol. It's been crazy. I get that people ignore it because it does cost mana to activate and it has some relatively niche functions, and won't always do anything aside from produce colorless mana, but when it does work it can be an instrumental piece for running away with the game.
My face lit up when they said Vivien :) I love casting her in Karador and minus-ing when I cast him for 3 mana, go get Kodama, and put out like 20 mana worth of stuff for just casting my commander for cheap
I like Evolution Sage as a DS for the counters doubling substitute. As for the tokens, I've been impressed by two cards in the 99: 1. Adrix you would be impressed how much people don't wanna pay that ward 2; and 2. Chatterfang puts a squirrel fpr every token. Getting an extra body is good. On top of that you can use it as removal.
I love how on point this channel. I just put mayhem devil in my Prosper deck and anarchomancer in my ruric tharr deck. Crazy. I love these underrated gems.
I remember a game where I was only Able to cast Syr Konrad and just by using his mill Ability dealt 15 or 17 Damage to everyone before an opponent was able to Answer it.
For Incarnation Technique, I play it in my reanimator deck, and I will definitely cast it when I have an empty graveyard. It's also awesome that you don't have to declare a target to reanimate. You choose it. That's relevant.
I have an almost entirely gold card Niv Reborn deck, and I built it because my favorite combo is Murderous Redcap with a +1/+1 counter giver plus a sac outlet, and that can be done with all gold cards with Grumgully or Rhythm of the Wild plus Cartel Aristocrat or Varolz the Scar Striped.

I went for Doom Whisperer in Yuriko. Decent hit with Yuirko in a deck with lots of 1 drops. Great top deck fixing, especially when you'd usually have a lot more life than opponents
A card thar overperformed for me is Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient. I was not sure I wanted it in my Xenagos deck at the beginning because I was already running Savage Ventmaw and the two seemed kinda similar, but Oh. My. God. Klauth is so much better and it can end games out of nowhere with all the mana it gives you!
THE MEDALLION CREATURES ARE AMAZING!!! I have the Goblin Anarchomancer and the green and red familiars in Minna and Den. If I have one in my opening hand, it essentially functions as a mana dork allowing me to play Minna and Denn on turn three.
I remember the first game I played with Goblin Anarchomancer in my Zacama deck I played it on turn 2, then turn three went: Three Visits, Skyshroud Claim, Cultivate. Pretty good. Also Voidwalker in my Lurrus EDH deck was just money. I will say it’s pretty fun to be able to recast a Voidwalker each turn when you have a Mesmeric Orb in play is great. Even made me put Lightning Greaves back in the deck, which was fine because I was already running Stoneforge Mystic.
Vivien, Monsters’ Advocate: 3GG Enchantment: When this enters the battlefield, put a 3/3 beast token into play with a [whatever abilities it lists]. You may play creatures from the top of your library….
It’s not that the blue monument sucks, it’s that synergy with playing creatures is something blue decks rarely want. I have a creature based blue deck and that card puts in work.
Absolutely love my Syr Konrad deck. It of course has the Mincrank combo, which is even more disgusting when you've got Tortured Existence out. And the rest of the deck is just fun mill/reanimate strategy. Just a blast to pilot.
I’m building a Shirei Shizos caretaker deck, and I decided to put syr Conrad in it, just because I needed more sacrifice pay offs, but holy cow it’s awesome in that deck. I was playtesting the deck with some friends, I got Shirei, 4 creatures and a sac outlet on board, and won in two turns.
I haven't needed to use Yavimaya or care to use it. The cards from Modern Horizons that have impacted my decks the most are Dauthi Voidwalker, Urza's Saga, and Solitude. Heck, even the reprinted fetches haven't improved my deck a ton compared to how threatening those three are.
I have a Syr Konrad deck and I put Incarnation Technique in it partly due to Joe singing it's praises. It has definitely become a favourite. (And yes Doom Whisperer is in there too and is an absolute house).
Yes!!!! Incarnation Technique… not only do I love the card but the name is so badass too to me 🤣 super spicy I’ve played it in a few different decks and it always puts in work
I created a Syr Konrad commander deck for our casual table. Dropped him on turn 4. Two turns later I had whiffed with most of my mill effects and had still dealt 19 commander damage. This card is just disgusting and an extreme example of: remove or die
I would like to call out Cavalier of Night. I only play it in one deck (Meren) but it overperforms every time it comes out. Removal, sacrifice and reanimation all on one card? Sign me up! I have looped this with Meren, a sacrifice outlet and a third creature (of 3 or less cmc) to great value.
Another card similar to Robe of Stars is Vanishing. For one blue mana you enchant a creature and at any time for two blue mana you can phase that creature out. You can either save your own creature or hose someone else’s
I swear the last three nerds videos I’ve watched have mentioned robe of stars. Idk if it’s a crazy coincidence or what but it’s now what I deem “the robe of stars saga” and I hope it continues because that card is fantastic.

Saying some cards are just too bad in cEDH makes turbo Johnny's go wild to prove you wrong making it useful in some combo that no one else thought of yet such as a Mono green Maze's End deck or Mono White Door to Nothingness with a generic 5c commander such as Progenitus as it really does not matter who your commander is as long as you have access to all of the colors though cost wise Kenrith, the Returned King is the cheapest option actually cheaper than the Hydra Avatar price wise. But at tables Kenrith usually gets targeted just for having him in the command zone as he is usually known as the cEDH commander so might as well go with Progenitus as it is the most bland 5 color commander you can find as you need the 5 colors because of guild gates but there are a lot of green things such as Ulvenwald Hydra that can get any land onto the field so it makes sense to go Mono Green and Kura, the Boundless Sky let's you get any 3 lands into your hand so have a way to play multiple lands per turn such as Azusa, Lost but Seeking and suddenly you are ramping the non basic lands out and since it is green ramp anyways the high cmc does not matter hell you could even hard cast a Worldspine Wurm if you wanted the ramp makes the cmc not matter. At least the deck is turn 5 as i need cards to make it better and this is taking into the fact of people counter spelling my ramp ignoring a infinite combo for Worldspine Wurm for if someone exiles the Maze as i can reclaim it back to my deck if it gets sent to the grave and because why not i put a primal surge in the deck as potentially that is a game ending combo card since the majority of the deck are permanents so pass the turn at the beginning of their untap step tap Kiora's Follower untap the Maze that enters tapped then win unless for some reason they have a stifle then they just bought themselves another turn to live. It is a budget deck for now till i get the other cards then it will be over $100 USD but not by much and in cEDH terms that is still budget Anyways Gimmick decks usually tend to be really high in power like around 9's because they are focused around a Gimmick or alt win con such as Phage, the Untouchable (usually a combo involving the ETB effect to kill the opponents not actual combat thanks Endless Whisper)/Maze's End/Door to Nothingness/Approach of the Second Sun though that last one usually tends to be in Stax. Depending on the Gimmick and ramp the decks can be a power 10 but usually most gimmick decks are just power level 9's at maximum till Wizards print new cards to make the Gimmick better before you ask Phage is a solid 10. Though if you ask me how fast a deck can win in turn cycles without any interruptions i would look t you like you are an idiot as that really is a stupid metric as you need to factor in interruptions such as Force of Will or other counter spells as there will be interaction especially in competitive games thus you should count that into the calculations on how fast your deck could consistently win as suddenly a what is supposed to be turn 4 game can turn into a turn 13 game because of interactions you did not think about but that is rare in a cEDH game as it usually requires two control decks to pop off Anyways people usually consider 9's to be competitive as they can stand toe to toe with 10's and win they are also seen as budget versions of competitive decks that is usually what you would see at a tournament as it would be as rare as seeing a incel touching grass to see a power level 10 deck that has all of the cards and no it does not mean they would win the tournament even though they would have a insane advantage
Mayhem Devil is an mvp in any deck that makes treasure, even without a dedicated sacrifice outlet. It's in my Prosper, Tome-Bound deck, and my normal playgroup underestimated it precisely once.
@@NitpickingNerds I'll concede you are correct in that, but treasure makers abound and a lot of people I play with like playing those effects. I too wouldn't recommend throwing this in just any deck, but when I saw how many times it triggers off your opponents plays, I realized you needed very little excuse to put it in if you have any synergy. Yes if your just running a deck that puts counters on things then evolution sage is very good. But i have to say unless it superfriends no one is running doubling season purely to double their counters. Also enchantments are a little harder to remove then creatures.

Oketras monument doesn’t go unnoticed. We just either know that the second we reveal removal to deal with it someone’s going to drop a 6 mana artifact or someone just doesn’t wanna have to be the person who has to spend mana to remove it
I really need to try Syr Konrad. I have a perfect deck for it, but I've never seen it in action, so I know I'm under appreciating it. Also, very pumped for a IHYD/Nerds crossover!
I remember a Game when I drawed nothing but Swamp and a Syr Konrad, even by only using is mill abilty I was able to deal something like 12 damage to each opponent before someone got rid of him.
goblin anarchomancer or medalions this idea is called "coupon" like this card coupons red and green. oketra's monument coupons white creatures... and so forth
Also the familers are good if you have mostly the type they are reduceing that’s why the white one is seen in chulane because it makes 40 to 50 cards in your deck cost 1 less
@@NitpickingNerds I like that in a pinch if my doom gets targeted I can still mill myself and have doom hit the grave instead of exile, then late game dementia can become a win con. Most of the time I reanimate the doom anyways. keep my grave full and doom out of exile!
Most of the time when dementia wins is because of karmic revilark. Plus if blood artist 🩸 is out, Infinte damage and milling! Dementia is just so good as a engine and a win con.
Seal of the Guildpact also reduces mana cost, for 2 colors chosen when you play it. For 5 colorless mana. The Goblin Anarchomancer is clearly better in Gruul.
Coveted Jewel would be my EDH over performer especially in artifact reanimator strats and decks where your opponents are punished for attacking into you
i run vivien in my 5 color dragon deck alongside kodama of the east tree, casting a dragon and searching up another dragon or some other nice creature is bonkers with her

Doom Whisperer went ham for my Sefris deck the other day, finished a dungeon each trip around the board for 3 rotations just from this guy!
Almighty Brushwag delivers a lot for me. In green stompy heavy hitters tend to eat all the removal then a huge Brushy trampled in.

For one blue mana you enchant a creature and at any time for two blue mana you can phase that creature out.
You can either save your own creature or hose someone else’s
This interesting but I think quite a bit worse than Robe of Stars

Saying some cards are just too bad in cEDH makes turbo Johnny's go wild to prove you wrong making it useful in some combo that no one else thought of yet such as a Mono green Maze's End deck or Mono White Door to Nothingness with a generic 5c commander such as Progenitus as it really does not matter who your commander is as long as you have access to all of the colors though cost wise Kenrith, the Returned King is the cheapest option actually cheaper than the Hydra Avatar price wise. But at tables Kenrith usually gets targeted just for having him in the command zone as he is usually known as the cEDH commander so might as well go with Progenitus as it is the most bland 5 color commander you can find as you need the 5 colors because of guild gates but there are a lot of green things such as Ulvenwald Hydra that can get any land onto the field so it makes sense to go Mono Green and Kura, the Boundless Sky let's you get any 3 lands into your hand so have a way to play multiple lands per turn such as Azusa, Lost but Seeking and suddenly you are ramping the non basic lands out and since it is green ramp anyways the high cmc does not matter hell you could even hard cast a Worldspine Wurm if you wanted the ramp makes the cmc not matter.
At least the deck is turn 5 as i need cards to make it better and this is taking into the fact of people counter spelling my ramp ignoring a infinite combo for Worldspine Wurm for if someone exiles the Maze as i can reclaim it back to my deck if it gets sent to the grave and because why not i put a primal surge in the deck as potentially that is a game ending combo card since the majority of the deck are permanents so pass the turn at the beginning of their untap step tap Kiora's Follower untap the Maze that enters tapped then win unless for some reason they have a stifle then they just bought themselves another turn to live. It is a budget deck for now till i get the other cards then it will be over $100 USD but not by much and in cEDH terms that is still budget
Anyways Gimmick decks usually tend to be really high in power like around 9's because they are focused around a Gimmick or alt win con such as Phage, the Untouchable (usually a combo involving the ETB effect to kill the opponents not actual combat thanks Endless Whisper)/Maze's End/Door to Nothingness/Approach of the Second Sun though that last one usually tends to be in Stax. Depending on the Gimmick and ramp the decks can be a power 10 but usually most gimmick decks are just power level 9's at maximum till Wizards print new cards to make the Gimmick better before you ask Phage is a solid 10. Though if you ask me how fast a deck can win in turn cycles without any interruptions i would look t you like you are an idiot as that really is a stupid metric as you need to factor in interruptions such as Force of Will or other counter spells as there will be interaction especially in competitive games thus you should count that into the calculations on how fast your deck could consistently win as suddenly a what is supposed to be turn 4 game can turn into a turn 13 game because of interactions you did not think about but that is rare in a cEDH game as it usually requires two control decks to pop off
Anyways people usually consider 9's to be competitive as they can stand toe to toe with 10's and win they are also seen as budget versions of competitive decks that is usually what you would see at a tournament as it would be as rare as seeing a incel touching grass to see a power level 10 deck that has all of the cards and no it does not mean they would win the tournament even though they would have a insane advantage

Mayhem Devil is an mvp in any deck that makes treasure, even without a dedicated sacrifice outlet. It's in my Prosper, Tome-Bound deck, and my normal playgroup underestimated it precisely once.
That is a fair statement but I think outside of prosper there aren't many decks that make treasure like that :)
@@NitpickingNerds I'll concede you are correct in that, but treasure makers abound and a lot of people I play with like playing those effects. I too wouldn't recommend throwing this in just any deck, but when I saw how many times it triggers off your opponents plays, I realized you needed very little excuse to put it in if you have any synergy. Love your content, guys, keep up the fantastic work.

My Thassa deck is one of my best and most feared in my playgroup.
Yes if your just running a deck that puts counters on things then evolution sage is very good. But i have to say unless it superfriends no one is running doubling season purely to double their counters. Also enchantments are a little harder to remove then creatures.

Oketras monument doesn’t go unnoticed. We just either know that the second we reveal removal to deal with it someone’s going to drop a 6 mana artifact or someone just doesn’t wanna have to be the person who has to spend mana to remove it
It is a card I overlook often as the value is so minor

I remember a Game when I drawed nothing but Swamp and a Syr Konrad, even by only using is mill abilty I was able to deal something like 12 damage to each opponent before someone got rid of him.

Agitator ant is amazing in an animar deck. I love this card.
Also the familers are good if you have mostly the type they are reduceing that’s why the white one is seen in chulane because it makes 40 to 50 cards in your deck cost 1 less

@@NitpickingNerds I like that in a pinch if my doom gets targeted I can still mill myself and have doom hit the grave instead of exile, then late game dementia can become a win con. Most of the time I reanimate the doom anyways. keep my grave full and doom out of exile!
Most of the time when dementia wins is because of karmic revilark. Plus if blood artist 🩸 is out, Infinte damage and milling! Dementia is just so good as a engine and a win con.

Seal of the Guildpact also reduces mana cost, for 2 colors chosen when you play it. For 5 colorless mana.

Robe of stars was the addition to my equipment deck that made me stop playing. It's too good and kind of makes it boring.

Coveted Jewel would be my EDH over performer especially in artifact reanimator strats and decks where your opponents are punished for attacking into you
Jewel was a card that had to be cut from out cube because it added so many resources to the game
i run vivien in my 5 color dragon deck alongside kodama of the east tree, casting a dragon and searching up another dragon or some other nice creature is bonkers with her
I use Oketra's Monument in Rune-Tail. 1/1s are even better with infinite toughness.
I love Goblin Anarchomancer and Goblin Electromancer and stuff. I hope the medallions get reprinted. It’s been too long.
