Snowbird is a bit more appropriate to the Elvis/Lucy story than you covered. It is not a happy song at all. It is about someone who has been cheated on (if Elvis was emoting, might he think about Priscilla cheating on him, since it affected him so much?) and wishes for better, asking to fly away with the snowbird (thinking of Lucy who was never a problem to him?), presumably to escape the pain of a lover who betrayed him....and wondering if he should go back to that person (which he likely had to consider a time or two, before coming to some conclusion) realizing he might experience heartache again......
Some key phrases..."The one I love forever is untrue. And if I could you know that I would fly away with you....He'll only break my heart again should I decide to stay. So, little snowbird, take me with you when you go, to that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow."
And, yes, she almost died in snow...So, little snowbird! How appropriate a term for her, really.
But -- Elvis was good at telling women he was sending messages through songs. He said that to everybody. I believe Priscilla said in "Elvis and Me" that he would send her records from stateside that indicated his feelings to her ..... romantic Elvis. And big fibber!

Dary, I'm leaving this message on a couple of videos, hoping you all will read it. Get DNA on all the kids saying that Elvis is their daddy. If just one half siblings match, you have something! But hurry, you want to get DNA before they all pass. I have little understanding, but to get a male DNA, it shows more. There was a kid on The Voice from Australia, says he is Elvis' grandson and you have Elvis, Junior and, the Brando girl, etc. It would be fun!

Elvis had work done on his nose soon after his film career began in the 1950s. He wanted it to look more streamlined for the camera. He also had some work done on his eyes in the 1970s. This is typical for anyone in show business, especially someone known for their looks, as well as talent. Look at a photo of Elvis in 1954, then in 1958. The change is pretty obvious. Billy Smith admits it is true, as well as other members of the MM.

When Lucy was asked by an audience member on Donahue’s show why she ripped up Desiree’s birth certificate, her answer was rather bizarre. She was practically speaking in 3rd person like she was referring to a created character. She replied, “ Oh because I would have an emotional state at that time because I thought he had met someone else and fell in love with someone else. It’s just a woman’s heart..and I just thought I’ll never tell him now that he’s found someone else.” ...Just odd phrasing..and it's not like Elvis was coming over to her house and would have found the birth certificate.
Also, if all these people saw Elvis and "Little Lucy" together, how many of them came out publicly as witnesses when the book came out? Dary says many of them spoke to him about it but they're not around anymore. Will have to ask him if he took note of any of them..Video cameras existed in 1987..If I was the co-author of this book and "multiple people" came forward to me as witnesses after, I would definitely be asking to film them talking about it, and at the very least ask for a witness testimonial when Lucy and Desiree were being questioned so much and accused of lying.

@@zucan100 I agree with you as well..for the the most part at least. I don't find the story of Desiree running into Lisa Marie at Target too hard to believe. It's possible. I ran into Milla Jovovich at the pharmacy years ago...Patrick Stewart in the park, Hank Azaria on the street, the late Bob Saget at a restaurant..the list goes on and long..just to say it's A LOT more believable than Lucy renting a horse in Memphis and running into Elvis while he was on a horse and them riding up a hill and spending the night together with their horses tied to a tree. LOL (is that the story?)
I too have questions about the authentication of the poem and Charles Hamilton. He appraised it for 100K (about a million in today's bucks) and he was known to sell autographs.
As for the color of Elvis' suit when he visited the WH, you could be right. It was reported as purple for some reason. I have not analyzed the photos against the black cossack suit Elvis wore at the 68 Comeback Special. Thank you for letting me know of this so I can compare them.
And as for the publisher not requiring to see Lucy's diary, this isn't a big surprise. You could write a book tomorrow saying your Grandma was Elvis' secret Yoga instructor that he snuck away to stretch with in the middle of the nights for years. Even with zero evidence, some publisher would possibly print and promote it..and many would believe the story if you included a bunch of names and places that are fact checkable to have been true in that era. That's where a lot of people latch onto fiction as fact. Tell them that Sam Donaldson owned the fried chicken joint down the street back in 1967 and they fact check and see he really did...so of course your Grammy taught Elvis Yoga and used to give him a big wink and chuckle as she walked past the window of the restaurant and wagged her finger at him for eating that greasy fried chicken after a good Yoga session with her. Just make sure it was a 24hr chicken joint if you're claiming these were secret 4am yoga sessions! LOL

The book is certainly a well-written enjoyable book, but I view it as two separate stories--the "love story" and the "love child." If you believe in the "love story," that's fine, but it does NOT, in and of itself, PROVE the story of the "love child." It simply does not. The information in the book is "circumstantial" evidence, including the poem. Even if the handwriting experts authenticated the poem to be in Elvis' handwriting, that still does NOT prove that Desiree is (allegedly) Elvis' child.
As I've said before, I do NOT view this book as a "love story," but rather, IF true, a "SELF-INFLICTED TRAGEDY," as perpetrated by Lucy. There would be no need to debate this issue back and forth, if Lucy simply would have been FORTHRIGHT and told Elvis of their (alleged) child, but to everyone's detriment, she did not.
Then, when she finally got onboard about writing the book to prove that Desiree was Elvis' daughter, she half-stepped it by not seeking out "hard" evidence. Just because she claimed not to want any money from the estate, that still does not make her case any more credible, imo, and it is NOT EPE's responsibility to prove Lucy's and Desiree's case. As in any other lawsuit, it is not the opposing party's responsibility to prove your case. Unfortunately, Lucy failed to petition the COURT's help in establishing paternity, which, as you know, is a "legal acknowledgement of the relationship between a father and his child," and thus failed in proving her case. All the best!

Interesting take. Problem is like so many, you are projecting what you would have done if you were in Lucy's heels. Not what Lucy actually did from her own perspective, life situation, and decision making. It often frustrated me, but I also respected Lucy for sticking to her guns, however maddening..
The purpose of Are You Lonesome Tonight was not to prove that Desiree' was Elvis daughter to a legion of faceless strangers. It was to allow her daughter to know the full story of her existence. A decades long saga that Lucy could never bring herself to tell Desiree' directly - and be judged by Desiree' - since it was so deeply layered. The best way to accomplish that was via a book. That fact that Lucy eventually, after two years of nagging, agreed to allow the world to share her sweeping tale was all my doing. I can be rather persistent, and charming.

Regarding half siblings not looking alike. It's different with half siblings, some of them can look a lot alike and others can look very different depending on who the other parents are. For instance, when i was matched by DNA to an unknown half uncle, the dna could only say how much DNA we shared but not what side of my family until he was matched with another relative. It was very confusing because this guy shared features that looked like my dad's side (German) but he turned out to be on my mom's side (British). Turns out his mother was German so thats why he looked like my German side to me! Yet my mother and aunt could tell straight away he was their father's son by odd little things like eyebrows. But all the offspring of my grandfather and grandmother all have the exact same chin, whereas this guy had a square cleft chin like my dad's german side! So it just depends on how the genes fall. Desiree looks a lot like her mother so that would skew how Elvis' features would appear compared to his child (LMP) who looked exactly like him. Happens all th time where one full sibling could look like one parent and another sibling like the other (or other relatives even). And if a half sibling takes strong traits from the non-shared parent, you wouldn't see as strong of a resemblance.
I recently had puppies from dogs same breed but different features, its amazing how some look identical to one or other parent, some look like both, huge variation in appearance! Ive seen siblings who are not twins but look like twins vs full siblings who look nothing alike. My mother was 5'11 and her full sister was only 5'5. So even full siblings can differ a lot. But especially so half siblings.

@@epfanforever yes! Growing up it was always remarked how my sister and I looked like our dad's sisters more than my mom and our brother looked more like my mom's brother than our dad! I hate the Prince Harry paternity rumors because Harry gets his looks from the Spencer side. Two of Diana's siblings were gingers! But Charles has an unusual trumpet shaped nose and after Harry grew up you can see he has Charlie's exact nose. His resemblance to the other guy they rumor him about was an ETHNIC resemblance not a family resemblance. European stock is losing our understanding of ethnic resemblances due to the current ethnocide we are experiencing.

Joe pertaining to Priscilla having an affair with Mike Stone..I saw an interview with Red West ralking about this..Red said when Elvis found out about he went mad. Elvis told Red "He wanted Mike killed and asked Red if he would do"? Of course Red told him no,but when Elvis calmed down,Red asked him if he was serious about Mike Stone? Elvis told him "Just forget about it." Elvis didn't understand why Priscilla would leave him, especially for someone that didn't have any money. This was all said by Red in this interview..So i dont think Elvis took it so lightly that Priscilla was with another man..To bring up another point.. Talking about Elvis wouldn't have anything to do with a woman that had children and what a woman's body could look like .If it was possible that Priscillas body changed and that was a turn off for Elvis. When Lucy met him she already had two children, then four then six..I am almost positive her body had to change..Fact is Elvis told Priscilla when she was seven months pregnant, they should seperate..I think for Elvis it was to much for him looking at her being pregnant..Some men get a little turned off...Did Elvis love Lucy,i think he did because Lucy saw the man not the entertainer.. That's what he always wanted..Did he love Priscilla? I think he loved her but didn't respect her...I am definitely not a Priscilla fan, She brought to much grief and harm to him..Thank you and God Bless .MITTE always..

Some of the comments in Elvis groups are unbelievable, they have closed minds and are obsessed, I mean they don't believe Elvis loved Lucy because of a colour of his suit!
So, there's a recent frenzy about the old claim that Lucy De Barbin had a 24 year affair with Elvis, resulting in a love child known as Desiree Presley. This is because Rare Elvis Photo's (REP's) dredged up the old book, Are You Lonesome Tonight and had the author (Dary Matera) on his channel, defending Lucy's claims and going so far as to state that Lucy knew information only someone in the position that Lucy claims to have been in, would know. REP's seems to have fallen hook line and sinker for Lucy's story and is defending the book from any criticism. One of the claims made by Lucy in the book, is that she met Elvis in Washington, just prior to him meeting Nixon and that Elvis was wearing a purple velvet suit with a reversable cape for the occasion. Matera claims to have told Lucy that the suit was black as far as he knew and that if she were wrong about this aspect, they would be in trouble and basically, the book may not stand up to scrutiny (paraphrasing). Matera claims that after research, he found that Lucy was correct and that the suit was purple - some books do claim the suit was purple, including Goldman's Elvis. However, we know that people like to make Elvis seem much large than life and often in ways that try him embarrass him or make him look weird. Well, Elvis's outfit wasn't a suit, he wore his black Cossack two piece, from his early Vegas residency and the jacket was the BLACK velvet jacket from the 68 Special. I have had this confirmed via email from BK enterprises, who own Bill Belew designs and of course Bill designed Elvis's costumes for the 68 special - INCLUDING the black velvet jacket he wore for the Guitar Man/Trouble medley. I doubt Matera or REP's will accept the FACTS but see below. Interesting to not that Matera stated that if Lucy's claim about the 'suit' were found to be incorrect - he would have 'fluffed it' or 'not included it in the book'? He wouldn't have questioned her? Well, no one can now, but, not purple, not a suit, no cape - just the 68 Special Black Velvet jacket designed by Bill Belew, draped over his shoulders!
De Barbin's claim of 'seeing' Elvis, just before he met Nixon is..............

Can no one answer this question: why did the people who saw Elvis in the White House that day say Elvis had on purple? Why would they say he did if he didn't? What would be their motive? The White House Historical Association says Elvis had on purple. Jack Anderson, who broke the story, said he had on purple. Or didn't want a woman who had kids, Lucy wasn't in any of those equations. Lucy was not Priscilla or anyone else. Lucy couldn't do anything wrong in Elvis's eyes. She was his one true love. Lucy could have had 20 kids and Elvis would have still wanted her!! This is the sweetest love affair that ever existed. I feel so sad for Lucy and Elvis. Desiree too.

Elvis wearing the purple suit was public knowledge and written and printed in the Washington Post newspaper on Thursday, Jan. 27, 1972. This article was written by Jack Anderson 15 years before the book was released. The newspaper had over 1/2 a million daily readers at that time and would have been printed by other papers following that article. He just didn't want Prissy. Elvis could have all the company he wanted away from home. BUT when he was at home for weeks due to not working and wanted "company" and she was there WILLING for the taking, he would have had her. Normal human thing. Prissy will never admit it but she knows humans at her age, he just didn't want HER. He just had NO idea the world would be dissecting his life for 50 or more years. He never could have imagined today's flat world due to the internet. I don't think it crossed his mind we'd all hear about the flimsy excuse he came up with. And WHY would Prissy repeat that to the world. She's an idiot.
