    Usually you can get around the splash pages by having one of your other devices that can handle input (phone, computer, etc) spoof the mac address on your camera's wifi NIC. Spoof, log in, accept, un-spoof, login on camera. Should sail right through :) pretty useful in a pinch

    Super video. I have tried using my R6 with this type of FTP setup for MLB playoffs. The setup works at home when I test it out. The problem is connecting to any wifi in my home venue when the stadium is full. Even trying a hotspot, can't get a good, reliable connection. Very frustrating, and I just use my 1DX camera bodies to connect with ethernet.

    Thank you Jaren! Appreciate you and your team taking time to produce this. Have referenced your video multiple times to set up FTP for events.
    One issue I ran into was lagging Internet speeds from event attendees on the open-WiFi network and weak signal on my mobile. Sending fewer images will probably help. Another thing I just discovered is under "Image Transfer --> Image sel/transfer --> Direct transfer --> Sel 📂" you can choose to "transfer failed images," among other useful options to get those failed images out after getting on a faster connection

    Seemingly to ftp you have to pay £6/month to enable it?

    Great video, can you do this with a wired connection so the video transfers are faster?

    • @byuphoto
      @byuphoto  Год назад +1

      Yes you can! I just change wireless to wired in the set up and it should work fine with an ethernet cable.

    You’re probably not still answering questions here…. But I’ll try anyway.
    Any ideas how to speed up the transfer? Yours looked like 10seconds, the fastest I’ve ever gotten is closer to 60… which is kind of unmanageable. Let me know and thanks!!

      Tell me about your setup. The most important factor is to make sure you are not sending a large file, our jpgs are 1 to 1.5 megabytes in size.

    Hi, is there a way to transfer images from camera to SSD for backup without using a computer or iPad? Appreciate your help

      Don't think so, but Canon could update firmware to make it happen, here is more info on it: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4506246

    For FTP, are you using the $999 WFT battery grip or the internal? Thanks!

    • @byuphoto
      @byuphoto  2 года назад +1

      Just the internal transmitter.

    Would this work with smug mug ?? Thanks

    • @byuphoto
      @byuphoto  4 месяца назад

      Smugmug doesn't support FTP, but you could send photos to your phone and then use an app to sync them to smugmug: www.photosync-app.com/home

    How are you getting the dirty out from the camera? I thought Canon RF only allowed clean out.

      We use a Ninja 5 via HDMI, works for us.

    Your video is great and really helped me get the FTP function up and running on my R6. However, I've run into two issues so far. The first are guest internet splash pages that ask users to accept terms of service before logging them in completely to the WiFi network. I called Canon and they don't have a workaround. Maybe you do? The second issue is when using my iPhone 8 Plus as a hotspot. I can connect to the FTP server, but as soon as I tap on a photo to send it, the camera (or maybe the phone?) disconnects. I will probably end up just buying a wifi hotspot. Are your photographers using locally available wifi at the stadium or are they carrying hotspots or using their phones as hotspots? Ever run into this issue before?

      I'm seeing the comment below about spoofing the MAC address of the camera to get around a WiFi splash page. Makes sense and will have to try it. Any thoughts about the disconnecting iPhone?

    • @byuphoto

      That is a really weird phenomenon, try connecting it to a friends phone to see if it still disconnects. Does it disconnect when you are on connected to a wireless router?

    i was trying to send photos from r5/r6 to my macbook using QuickFTP application on mac , but nothing works.
    what i need to do is to send the photos to the laptop first without taking the memory cards out of the camera , just upload the photos to the computer thru FTP to edit them and put a description then upload them to photoshelter from my laptop.

      Here is what the canon manual says to do:

      What to check on the FTP server
      The connection was terminated by the FTP server.
      Restart the FTP server.
      Do the user rights for the FTP server allow reading, writing, and log access?
      Configure the FTP server's user rights to allow reading, writing, and log access.
      Do user rights allow access to the target folder on the FTP server?
      Configure the user rights for access to the target folder on the FTP server to allow saving images from the camera.
      Is the FTP server on?
      Turn on the FTP server. The server may have been turned off because of an energy-saving mode.
      Is the hard disk of the FTP server full?
      Increase available space on the hard disk.

    • @byuphoto
      @byuphoto  Год назад

      You can use shuttersnitch on your phone to FTP photos to photoshelter, you just have to setup an action to do it.

    Great video and thanks for the information. Does the teleprompter say "go ahead and" over and over? That is a very overused phrase by some RUclipsrs. If you remove those three words from every sentence they're in the sentence means exactly the same thing. Once you begin to hear it over and over it becomes distracting. Thanks for the FTP help though, and best of luck to you guys
