I am on my third 1290 Super Adventure and last time is was a hard decision between the big sister or something smaller and lighter. Do you still have your 1290 SAR or are you selling it? Very good review :) but how does it compare to the Norden and Triumph?

    • @alexislecarb
      @alexislecarb  Год назад +1

      Glad you enjoyed it. Well, those two other bikes are great bikes, no doubt about it. They handle everything you throw at them. BUT. in my opinion, the 890R outperforms significantly for three reasons : it's a lot lighter : ±200kg full, the suspension system is a lot more efficient. And the center of gravity is super low (compared to the Tiger 900) which makes it so handy and easy to ride. I've tried similar bikes like the Desert X or the T7 and this center of gravity makes a HUGE difference.

    Nice video. And that comfy tent seems like the only tent I would ever want to sleep in :) Something that caught my eyes at the end, your handguards are positioned really low... is that to prevent breaking your hands when you go over the bars ?

    • @alexislecarb
      @alexislecarb  Год назад +1

      The tent made our camping experience unique!! About the handguards, it’s mostly that my handlebar is positioned quite vertical, and so my levers at towards the ground which explain why the handguards are as well, to protect them from breaking in case of a fall.
      Makes sense?

      @alexislecarb  Год назад +1

      Thank you my friend.
      My favorite feature on the 890R compared to all the other bikes on the market right now is the center of gravity that is very low on the KTM. For me, that is a game changer, and that makes the whole difference when riding off-road.
      I tried other bikes, such as the T7 or the desert X, which are very capable bikes, and very good, but very heavy compared to the KTM 890 R due to the high center of gravity.

      @@alexislecarb My pleasure! I’m currently putting together a whole pile of videos to upload, and making sure it’s engaging, not full of repeat information and not too long, is one thing I think it’s essential. There’s a lot of content that people repeat themselves repeatedly, and if you remove the repeats, you lose about 30% of the duration, minimum. Sometimes I feel like I’m watching one of those reality TV shows, like bar rescue, where it tells you everything that’s coming up multiple times during the commercial breaks, and then you’ve already seen the content. Then they reflect on what you missed in the first section and then show it to you again before they show you what’s coming up and then actually show you what’s coming up after it's already been up 🤦🏼‍♂️. And before you know it, you have watched 15 minutes of original content within an hour. This is bloody brilliant! Keep it up!!!!💥🙌🏼👊🏼👍🏼

    I think Revolution Race would have the perfect off road pant if they put some aramid in the knees and hips for road abrasion with a bit of stretch to accommodate knee braces or guards. My RR trousers has knee pad inserts but I'll only wear compression type armour or strap on knee guards. It is nice to be in back woods not looking like a Power Ranger. Good video, as ever, Alex. You are a talented man.

      @alexislecarb  Год назад

      Hey buddy! thank you so much for the kind words regarding my content!! truly grateful for that.
      However, I'm not sure what you mean with offroad pants from Revolution Race. They manufacture gear for hikking, trekking and other outdoor-related activities, but definitely NOT motorcycles. I use RR gear for the camping stuff but whenever I'm on the bike, I'm using the Mosko riding gear which provides all you mentionned above.

    • @TheIdlesurfer
      @TheIdlesurfer Год назад +1

      @@alexislecarb I like genuine dual purpose gear. With knee braces and crash shorts under my RR pants, I feel pretty secure but if RR did a CE AAA pant, I'd buy them. The AAA rating is quite easy to get and most of us ride with knee guards and crash pants, but a bit of abrasion resistance would make them perfect light motorcycle trousers. Klim do a heavy version, Adv Spec do something similar but only in blue with too little room for knee braces. I really like RR gear. The cut suits my shape, but for enduro touring, they take up too much space. If I could wear the trousers riding, it would please me.

    Excellent video and review! I know the video is not about a comparison with the bikes that your friends have but I noticed you struggled going through some water early in the video and they did not. Was it because their bikes were more capable? How does your bike compare to the other bikes as well? I am asking because those bikes are adventure bikes that one would consider as well? So did you get rid of the 1290? You guys got guts! Riding that kind of terrain and at night and you doing it on a new bike at that. Thanks

    • @alexislecarb
      @alexislecarb  Год назад +1

      Hey man
      No it’s definitely not that their bikes are more capable because they are not. It is mostly about the rider skills at this specific moment I guess. The 890R is the most capable bikes amongst the three in the video.

    What an ambassador you are for KTM and specifically the 890 Adv R. Terrific video and so well put together. I’d love to hear a direct comparison between the bikes in the video as they are the three I am looking at right now. Unfortunately the KTM 890 R and Husky 901 Expedition are not in Australia yet (one to two months wait) so I have to be patient before throwing my leg over either. Plus about a one year wait on the Tiger 900 Rally.

    • @alexislecarb
      @alexislecarb  Год назад

      Thank you Mr Mikey!! Appreciate that positive feedback A LOT !!
      In my honest opinion, and it's not biased, I think the 890R is without a doubt the most capable machine between these three bikes. The suspensions are a lot better than both the Tiger and the Norden (the Norden has the APEX suspensions from WP). The center of gravity is much lower on both the Norden and the 890R compared to the Tiger. In terms of weight, the Norden is the heavier (204 kg) then the tiger (200 kg) then the 890R (< 200 kg). If you had to choose between the three, it would be a NO BRAINER in my opinion : rush on that 890R. I'm so impressed with this bike. And even without considering all of it above, the power that the bike delivers is a lot of fun!!!

    Nice review, and nice screens from that region of France. Very nicely shot. Using the 24 clock would be nice for your European audience.. The Tentsile looks interesting, but at 9.4kg and a huge 4m length, it's not really great for moto travel. You could pack a light weight free standing tent and a hammock for less.

    • @alexislecarb
      @alexislecarb  Год назад +1

      Thank you for taking the time to comment mate!! I'll use that 24 clock next time! The tentsile doesn't weight that much actually. If you take only the necessary equipement (inner tent + rain cover + straps) it's much less than what's announced!! The straps are what weight more but they have dual purposes : they can be used for the tent as well as pulling motorbikes when stuck. These are standard ratchet straps so they can have multiple purposes which means you don't have to bring other pulleys for that kind of matter. Actually I think it is perfectly suitable for mototravel! Look at how HUGE the Lonerider moto tent is for comparison... As I mentionned in the video, I now accept the fact of trading a little bit of space on the bike to have that extremely comfortable night sleep. I know there's plenty of tent models that exists on the market which are way more little and space-efficient, but I never had such a good night in a tent before. For our trip in Finland, we had a 2-person ground tent and yes it was lighter and smaller, but the comfort is very different!
