  • A documentary focusing on the 1999 Field Gun final run at Earls Court, London.
The much loved competition between Portsmouth (pompey) Devonport (oggies) and Fleet Air Arm (wafus) came to an end, and is missed greatly by many who enjoyed this exciting annual tradition.

I wish they would bring back the Royal Tournament again. It was a great way for the public to give recognition and to celebrate our armed forces. We should be proud of every single one of them and the contribution they make to our society.

Fantastic display of military discipline, training and sheer bloody mindedness. Makes you proud to be British.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Special men indeed. Not like the pathetic display we get today. What happened to competition? That is what makes fighting men. Lord help us if ever there's a war on.

Great memories of this run, such a sad (and proud) night. I'm on here running for the FAA, Loving hearing our Doc Furphy shouting Air Arm in the background...Mini Lou...RIP Command Field Gunning.

I see men in a real Navy- Nelson himself would applaud. Sadly we no longer have a Navy worth comment.

    • @cjeam9199
      @cjeam9199 4 года назад

Any Navy that Nelson would be proud of would promptly be shredded to pieces by a single aircraft with 20mm cannon. But yeah, they would look pretty and be able to fire a whole broadside in 60 seconds. It's the 21st century, not the 19th, and the military needs and uses different capabilities than they used to.

Thats a bit harsh. Iv just left after 7 years and been very impressed by the actual type of young 18, 19 year old lads that have joined. Confident, hard working and courageous. They know how to do their jobs and they do it well. Policy and management may admittedly be lacking but the guys themselves are still extremely capable

The Field Gun competition should be brought back. It's a disgrace what's happened to the armed forces of our nation.

Because this was the final run of the final Royal Tournament. Field gun does live on but in a slightly different form. I may be wrong but money and health and safety seem to be factors.

Should have been back long before now, but just like the rum issue and the Royal Yacht it was stopped out of spite.
Beer issue was abused from day one, however much machinery and technical equipment a ship had. That said, this and Britannia were axed because of incompetence - the mid-1990s redundancy package went tits-up in the wording and all the wrong personnel left.
Their Lordships then decided to bring in Operator/Maintainer, not quite grasping that a maintainer can be trained to operate, but an operator can only rarely be trained as a maintainer. But the chaos then set in with a vengeance, establishments had to be combined or sold off, large expensive ships that had never run well were scrapped, and new builds just kept on commissioning late.
Britannia was a jewel in the fleet which radiated professionalism, naval heritage and tradition, and the Field Gun Race was the most unique test of toughness and agility the world had ever seen.
But the flag ranks and four-ringers laid low and kept their perks and titles - that's the important thing.

A country that loses sight of its culture, heritage and history is nowhere. In the current climate of "inclusivity" and "diversity" this kind of tournament and competition that demonstrates elite qualities and skills could not exist. I speak as someone who did the Royal tournament three years running as part of The King's Troop RHA. Granted our skill sets where very different to those of the RN Field Gunners but were equal in contextual expertise.
We should all hang our heads in shame as we have allowed our once great nation to be brought to its knees in this way. We have been spoon fed a diet of wet liberal wokeness for decades now so we are now a nation that stands by idly while the products of this doctrine throw the monuments of our heritage and its statues into the river and brands its heroes racists. We support and fund minority, and in some cases, unnatural practises to the extent that the abnormal becomes normal.
We are expected to kneel in support of marxist division and witness the on going practise of this without question. The Britain I knew and grew up in would kneel before God and the queen and absolutely no one else.
It's all gone to shit. It's time to stand and be counted again. It is time to take pride in who we are and what makes us who we are. If that offends the easily offended than so be it.
    End of sermon 😊🇬🇧

It was the last ever Field Gun Competition. Those wankers Labour said it was due to man power... George Robertson, the then defence secretary, declined to attend any of the Royal Tournament days, I would imagine he didn't want the abuse!!The MOD said they didn't want the crews wearing black armbands.... not a chance...
