With how many times you've been to the Cape, it'd be good to see a trip of you guys getting to the start point of what you call the trip. So if you start just past Cairns, do a video of what you do getting the there. Showing how you've planned it out, what stops you do etc. That way some people can get a better idea of what they have to do, as some people have to be shown.

I've done the Kimberley, Gibb river , Tanami desert and grand central desert in a nearly stock 2014 hilux. Bullbar, winch and all terrain tyres stock size. no issues. plenty of off shoot tracks and trails in between.
    You don't need a meathead patrol 6inch lift and 37s with zd30.

The story of the inside of my boots being absolute torture.
Hey guys. im over here in NZ and me and my mates where recently hitting some of the tracks in the south island. Me with my Hilux decided to have a go at some rock steps and ended up smashing my door glass to bits. All the glass bits where all in my passenger door jam bit. Next when i did a boghole 1 hour later getting stuck in 2 foot high sticky mud. i opened the door and the glass shards all came into my GUMBOOT!!!!!!!!. The pain was hell. Because of the gumboots and the sticky mud the suction didn't let me get my foot out. I suffered cuts and bleeding all over my foot and was screaming when i got home to pluck them out.
Would very much appreciate some size 13 boots from you boys over the ditch.

Size 10! Left my boots at the road house before the start of the south side old telegraph track right after the wet season (we were one of the first ones to go through), got bogged 4.5 km in... winch stopped working, me and a mate tried to dig the car out for 2 hours straight and then had to walk all the way back bare foot to the road house to get rescued. This was one month ago. Boots wouldve been great for the walk!

    My boots story:
So this isn't necessarily a time I needed boots, but it's the reason I'll never go without steel caps again. I was out with two mates (lets call them S, and C) at Janowen Hill's 4wd Park, we'd planned to get there early on the Friday, and leave Sunday afternoon. We were taking 2 cars with us, mine with myself and C, and S was driving by himself. S gets called into work Friday, bad start to the trip, he rocks up Friday night, no 4wding has happened yet because who wants to get stuck without a car to pull yourself out. Day 2, S gets bogged immediately being an idiot, 2 hour recovery later (he had no recovery points on the rear). We go have lunch, not having driven more than 50 meters across all of Friday and half of Saturday. C is chopping wood, like an idiot and we're telling him he's doing it wrong. He wouldn't have a bar of it, till he cleaved his toe in 2, right down the middle. Exploded the bone in his big toe, and put a big hole in quite a nice pair of runners. Race off to Warrick hospital, wait 6 hours there then have to drive him to Brisbane hospital. Dump him and run, it's midnight by this point, get back to camp at 2am. Wake up and 4wd the morning, amazing park, but ruined by having 2 useless mates. Anyway, size 11, he might be size 10, I'd rather you gave him a pair. Happy to send photos of the toe, have a good one lads.

A good camping tip from me: head to Bunnings and buy a dustpan and brush for $1.50. The brush is great for brushing sand off your feet before rolling into your swag and the dustpan is amazing for fanning a fire.

My uncle took an rd28 gu patrol with 300,000kms on it around Australia. Completely stock, even up to the rims and alloy bull bar. He had 3 teenage kids and his wife with him and towed a 2 tonne caravan. Stock gu. The most underpowered one as well. It had some issues with the head gasket which was already cracked prior to the trip and a wheel fell off their caravan from the dirt roads.

    Hey 4WD 24-7
It’s Liam from Perth Wa here, a time when I could of really used a nice pair of boots was when I decided I was going to go for a solo 4wd cruise at my local which isn’t anything to hectic and then last minute got asked if my two friends could come. So I Picked them up along the way and made it about 45 minutes into the bush and then instead of going the easy flat gravel track way I decided I would want to impress them and take them through a huge normally water filled mud hole but being the start of summer no water was there so I was like yeah why not. Next minute the car sunk into another couple feet under neath the top layer of the worst mud I’d ever seen. Being the rookie I was had no winch, 4 max tracks was not enough and I was digging for two hours in my slides and trackies for no progress at all so ended up making my friends that only chose to come last minute to walk 2km to go get reception and call for help. Mean while I’ve got no shoes because my trusty slides got buried and did an absolute walk of shame when my mate came to help me. Ended up buying my friends that tagged along a carton so that could keep quiet about it but some new boots in return would be much appreciated. Size 13 love ya stuff lads 🤙🏼

The story of a lifetime, had been going through the state forest late at night without recovery gear with my mates. We had never been stuck before and were enjoying seeing wombats and owls out in the forest when we suddenly hit a big muddy section and we ended up slightly stuck. We could luckily get out and placed some sticks under the tyres and we were going in no time. We hadn't learnt our lesson and kept on going. Went over a slight hill. On the other side we found ourselves in a car swallowing hole full of mud and water. Sticks didn't work this time and we came up with the plan to walk rocks up to place under the wheels which eventually got us free. This is where a good set of boots would have come in handy cause I could have loaded them up with rocks making it easier to carry them. A nice pair of size 10 boots would go a long way.

One thing that I think is worth mentioning, MAKE SURE the "basic tools" you have will fit/ access your starter motor, alternator, man hubs, etc. Nothing worse than trying to remove something & you don't have the right tools. Also this will reduce the amount of tools you carry. You really only need certain sizes for your Toyota, Nissan, etc. BUT take all of your other basic tools, piers, AFS (Shifter), etc.

Then run the Queensland border all the way to the Sunshine coast to visit my sister who lives near the glasshouse mountains and I'll be spending two weeks doing the tracks there. all up about 7500km. Love these videos fellas! My wife and I just got married and are now selling everything and travelling Australia later in the year and our first stop will most likely be Victorian High Country.
As for the bisons giveaway I could definitely have used those boots when my Ute got stuck at a big smelly bog hole in Watagans at night with the boys then drove home with a very burnt clutch. Size 11

Size 10 boots, old boots fell apart on a caving trip, had to come out of the cave with just socks which ended up being fairly wet and mudding , then grabbed hold of a boundery wire fence ( it was electric fence ) that got the heart going. Good current flow.

When my runners are old enough they become my camping shoes, but a couple of month ago the sole started to give way on one shoe and I step flop step flop step flop all weekend. Size 10. Cheers.

Size 12.5 bisons would have helped one night staying at Lloyd's hut in the high country , about 1am we heard a rig giving it hell trying to get up some unnamed track just a short way through the scrub . We walked across from the hut and ended up halfway up the hill looking down at a newer luxy with a smashed up tray and some lads, full of Dutch courage that thought they would give it a shot , wouldn't do it in the daytime , but after a sneaky 10 or so brewskis and after the rain kicked in they thought they had it .
Surprised the heck out of em when I shouted down from the darkness asking if they needed a hand , turns out they left their recovery gear back at camp so I offered up mine , went and got it from the hut bought it back and when navigating my way down the hill a bit to set up a treetrunk protector and hook em up I ended up on my arse and slid about 20 metres down the hill to the front of their car . Much laughter was had . But they were a decent lot and ended up walking back up to our site later with a six-pack of the old iron jacks for my trouble .

Great show as usual guys. I’m watching this on the way to Broome/Derby/Kununurra. We’ll be Barra fishing on the lower Ord river and heading home down the Gibb, visiting all the spots.
Keep up the great work. Cheers 🍻

Size 11, got bogged - had pluggas on, went to jump out and get the recovery going. First step sunk into the mud, struggled to free my foot and lost my thong with the suction.

Hi guys im a size 10, WELL we got stuck out of Boddington on a shake down for what tuned out to be 5 years on the Rd, Well it took us 5 hours to get out of a bog hole, of course i only had Double pluggers and so did the cheese and kisses, we loved it and used every bit of recovery gear i had, it tuned out awesome, we were towing a drifta Dot camper, totally stuffed the jockey wheel but didn't care, we had a great time, cheers from Wayne & Karen

Loved the episode boys. Size 12 for me. Some boots would have been an awesome addition to my trip on the scenic rim last weekend with all the rain! Trudging through the mud in my pluggers really just was not cutting it, and the inside of my tent has seen better days for sure.

Great video! The under vehicle lights are "rock lights" and are meant for rock crawling at night so you can see your wheel placement; quite popular in the states among those who use them and those who mall crawl (mall crawl == driving to the grocery store, or posers). Thanks for another awesome video, your biggest fan state-side.

If you come across someone with a broken fan belt, carry a couple packs of pantyhose. In a pinch, they will get you out of trouble until you hit the next town. Also, carry some old spark pugs, you would be amazed at how well they fit in heater hoses sumps, etc.

Quality Bison's in a size 11 would have been handy on Kgari when we stopped to help 2 young Swedish ladies hiring a Vitara that lost the rear drive and become stuck on the exit track from Lake McKenzie. I had blisters from snatching and digging them out in the middle of summer with the Mighty Trity. With persistent, found a safe spot and got them both proper help...and a recommendation for a 100 series hire car instead! That's what it's all about, getting out, enjoying the trip and being able to help out those that need it. The girls still had fun 😀

I'm the allocated filmer in the group, and one time at Pallinup inlet there was a massive rocky, steep hill. Thongs didn't cut it so had to go bare feet, that was a long few hours of filming....a pair of size 10 boots would help!

5:20 you talk about being self-sufficient, and I know you guys normally face a lot of breakdowns, but then again you take the hardest lines on the roughest tracks. Many people don't know how to repair a car in the field or otherwise, and many don't like straight axle vehicles for daily driving. What about ways to pilot an IFS vehicle, or even a full independent suspension vehicle with low range, through the north while not taxing it to near the breaking point? Like I'd like to see you build a Land Rover LR3/LR4 Discovery or 1st gen Cayenne and take it up there and bring it back. That would truly be a new challenge for you guys.
A bit about the Cayenne: The Gen 1 Cayennes (2004-2010) really were unique cars. There was the typical Porsche attention to maximizing on-road handling, which was accomplished by keeping weight central and low, available hydraulic active anti-roll sway bars, available air suspension with different stiffness levels, and double-wishbone front suspension. At the same time, Porsche benchmarked the Gen 1 Cayenne against LR3s and G-Class off road. Porsche also even rallyed in the Gen 1 Cayenne, producing race cars with up-rated air suspension and a stripped out interior for the Trans-Siberia Rally in 2007 and 2008. From the factory, the Gen 1 Cayennes had low range and a 2 speed transfer case, true AWD with a center locker and a planetary-gear based 40/60 permanent torque split, available factory rear e-locker that can also be retrofitted, available air suspension with 11+ inches of ground clearance (or normal coil springs); a massively strong unibody (structural rigidity for its weight class is way up there), sealed water-cooled alternators, available diesel engines but also V8 gasser options, which even came available with manual transmissions (including the powerful GTS). Coilover conversions and lift kits are available (from Eurowise or sktec-parts/carpoint), as well as tons of aftermarket protection gear (from Eurowise and sktec/carpoint), winch mounts (Eurowise), a well-engineered snorkel kit (from sktec/carpoint), and an available front locker from Harrop (Eurowise), .
As part of the Cayenne project Porsche also designed the Gen 1 Touareg, along with a small minority of VW engineers. Many parts (factory and aftermarket) are interchangeable. There was even a factory front locker available for the Touareg in some markets, which can be fitted to the Cayenne, although the Harrop option is probably easier.
Ultimately, Porsche realized the market was calling more for crossovers than 4wd credibility, and they dropped the 2-speed transfer case for 2011+ models, as well as the V8+manual option, and then finally VW asserted control in the 2018 redesign which saw the engine layout changed to a more VW-type engine-forward layout and dropped the double-wishbone suspension. The Gen 1 Cayenne (and Touareg) remains a testament to an extraordinarily ambitious and successful engineering effort from Porsche, from a period that saw Porsche at perhaps its apogee as an independent company (before its effort to buy the larger VW A.G. met disaster in 2008-2009, along the way causing the biggest short squeeze of all time and leading to VW ultimately turning the tables and buying Porsche). The Cayenne/Touareg platform is increasingly being recognized by the aftermarket and by offroad enthusiasts- so I thought I would bring it to your attention! (Yeah yeah I know this was probably a waste of time but hopefully you at least learned something interesting.)

in 2010 my family and family friends drove from geelong up to the cape, 2 gq tb42s matching red one 35s front locked and one 33s unlocked, both towing a jayco camper and a tinny on the roof, did the whole tele track, CREB track and gunshot while towing and explored the cape for 2-3 months. No breakdowns but few bogging, still look back at the videos as we recorded all of main 4wding

Great show like always, I was out in Tallarook about a month after buying the 105 series testing her out. Car didnt get stuck at all, however my bloody size 12 Blundstone boot is still stuck in the mud on Bills Track somewhere after I went arse over trying to get close enough to the bog hole to test the depth.
