If you build a trundle drawer for your recovery gear, remember that chassis rails flex. Make sure you can unbolt the end of it, or you might not be able to get your gear out when you most need it.
Just put a deposit on my uncles d22 nav which I’m getting in a few months. I’m 16 and can’t wait to start building, but on a budget. Getting winch bar and winch. 2 inch lift and eventually a diff locker. I’ve been looking at the evc throttle controllers in the hopes of saving money on diesel when city driving and helping to tackle the tricky tracks out the local bush. Love the videos you guys put out and they have inspired me to do such a build. Every time I watch one of your videos I get more excited to build my own rig.
Building a recently purchased ‘07 Rodeo or as she’s known now the Canyonairo! I bought it because of Graham and I couldn’t afford an Isuzu so I got the sleeper version! She was owned by a caravan bloke who went solo on his adventures and was a little easy on the right foot but now she needs to have some fuel and fun pumped through her so if you feel like giving her a throttle controller I’ll get into the vic high country and do it like Graham! Cheers boys, keep it up!
As a younger man, putting big tires on my rig was always the first step, typically resulting in an under powered vehicle. A few decades later, I typically start with gearing and lockers before suspension and tires. Love watching you builds and the contrast you two bring to the video, with one in a mostly stock vehicle and the other in a super custom.
Hey guys, I just bought a 1988 ne SWB Pajero for my first car. In future want to do a barra swap but for now buying some basic things, new interior (new carpet, seats) and am installing draws. Hoping to get new suspension and shocks and a set of 32s
Finally picking up my first real 4wd this weekend thanks to the inspiration from you lads. A 2012 Pathfinder. (Not much but she'll be mine) Grabbing a lift from fulcrum and a set of muddies, swag in the back and I'm off to the bush until I run out of tins of soup. Thanks for the years of content legends. Hope to see you out there one day.
The bright side of "it's not much" is you will have a lot of fun with it. I once put so much money in a rig I stopped using it. Sold it and started over keeping the cost down. I use it a lot!
got a 2011 2.5 pathfinder. Bar, winch, 2" lift, 32" tyres, dual battery, 3" exhaust, snorkel and tuned. Okay cars for normal 4x4 tracks. they love to lift wheels.
My wife and I have opened our hearts and home to 3 gorgeous young children who have had a rough start to life. I've picked up a 100 series landcruiser and trying to build it up a bit so we can create some memories for us all and to teach them about the mechanics of building your own truck.i had a 2" lift put in it 6 months ago and the supplier didn't put in a diff drop kit and my power steering rack blew out , torn the cv boots. As much of a pain it's been fun working on it teaching the young fella about turning spanners and having a go. Cheers boys love the show big fan.
I am busy building a Ford Ranger 2016 model at I got from my dad when he passed away last year. So far I only put on bigger tires and a EVC throttle controller and this has has already made a great difference. Already have a canopy on the back and I'm working on the drawer system myself and buying bits and pieces of the dual battery setup so that that can go in as soon as the drawer system is done. Really loving this rig at the moment and I'm busy packing now for another adventure this weekend.
Just started building our 200 series so we can do a trip next year after our wedding. Currently only got a draw setup, snorkel and torqit exhaust but plans are lift, wheels, 12 volt system, breathers, roof platform, bull bar, rear bar, remap and a few other things. Working progress and installing all my self so I learn as much as I can along that way. Loving it boys and thanks for always having cracking videos.
You're right about weight. Duel cab Hilux's are making some of the big rigs look silly. Jocko has made some great mods on his Luxy's. Wider track and lifts. As far as engine mods, you need a good base to start. Cooling. Larger intercooler, gearbox oil cooler auto or man.
2013 Mits Triton. Owned since new. Finally in a position to start upgrading it. Over the covid period I taught myself to weld. Built a touring rack to sit over my tub. 25x25x2 RHS. Holds 20l water jerry, 20l fuel jerry, max trax x 4, a shovel and had a mesh flooring that sits 700mm above the tub flooring so I have two times the flooring space. Frees up so much space for the extra stuff we always have!! Over this project I learnt the importance of correct planning in the design stage of the project. Thinking about center of gravity and how it changes the drivability of the vehicle Placing the heavier items over the wheels/axels instead of over the far end of the tub increasing leverage in the wrong areas. For example…I placed both jerry cans on one side of the rack. Thus loading up one side instead of placing both jerrycans on each side of the vehicle to cancel each other out. All fun and games, Trent.
Building a ml triton heading to the Kimberley’s this year have done a few mods ,lift kit we installed ,40 litre water and tap, slow and steady to get it how I want it don’t know to much about mechanical work but Iam slowly learning . Love watching these episodes boys I learn a lot ! Driving of road and in the bush
I bought my first 4wd (2003 120 Prado Grande) in December 2021 to be used as a tourer for a big lap this year as a sort of Uni Graduation present to my partner and I. We started with a rooftop tent, awning, shower awning, Kickass hot water system, solar, dual battery in a battery box and some lights. After being in the High Country for a week and having a crap storage solution - a pair of drawers, I've started building my own rear setup to be more ergonomic. I now have a cage with a water bladder between it and the middle row seats. Next to the drawers is a cooker and utensils slide and ontop a diy fridge slide. Next to the fridge sits the battery with all the wiring tucked away in the wing. On the other side of the drawers, on the wing, sits the hot water system and retractable hose reel and water pump. I can now pump water into the tank from anyway (even a fresh water creek as it has a filtration system), or out of it for drinking, showering and cooking. Rear coil springs are on the way to do away with the factory airbag suspension. I'm waiting to see if I'd like to do a lift or not, and a winch based on a couple of our next trips planned to the Great Ocean road, The Flinders Ranges, and Uluru. Alot of the videos you guys have made convinced me to slow down and take my time with the build, especially since 💰 is a concern being 22. So cheers boys 🍻
My biggest issue is getting bogged down into the research of all the mods, items and camping gear that's on the market and not getting out there enough to see if we need it! Currently setting up my BT50 for my wife to drive to Cape as we ride. She had an awesome long Easter weekend learning in the local area (and nearly sending us over a cliff while doing a 50 point turn) but a throttle control is now on the list to get ride of that lag.
I feel this video in my soul, late in 2020 I started a project of my own, putting a TD42 from a Nissan CIVILIAN bus and putting it into a 98 GU Patrol (RD28) and the amount of issues ive come across, blows my mind. Now mid 2022 and I am only just getting close to starting the car. From wiring issues (the bus was a 24v system) to gearbox and drive shaft issues, this car has been a nightmares worth of challenges. But Ive learnt so much about mechanics and this car, I can safely say that I will be able to fix any mechanical issue that could ever come out of this car (because ive likely already rebuilt the part anyway!) and while I hope i never need to replace this engine, I can happily say that i would do it all over again, mistakes and all.
I'm 2years into building my '92 3 door Landrover discovery. After making many mistakes building my previous discovery this one has already received a GU patrol diff conversion and very slowly working toward either an LS or Turbo Barra conversion.
Hi guys love the videos. I purchased my first 4wd a brand new 2021 px3 ranger last year and have been loving the freedom of exploring the WA coast, dams and other inland tracks with my fiance and our daughter. Currently the ranger is completely stock as I want to get use to the car and find out exactly what i want to do before I go spending a lot of money turning it into a touring rig (do it once do it right) and having family and friends that own highly modified 4wds it's good to see what they have done and the knowledge they have given me over the last few months has helped with starting my list of what I want to get done to turn the ranger into a nice touring rig and a evc throttle controller is on the list of things to get.
Yep, aslway went aww look at the wank factor or redarc but it's where my money ended up going for reliability. And even decided that it'd be beneficial enough for weight and life I'd be using them went lithium batteries too.
Our family loves your work gents! I think nothing qualifies us more for a Codebreaker than buying a sensor loaded 2007 Jeep Commander CRD Limited last month. We bucked the COVID Tax and went with something no one wanted. So far, we have been making sure the vehicle is in top condition with all fluids and filters changed in the carport. Just bought the 2400 long roof rack and will be fitting it all with unistrut to the roof. Goes in for the remap, EGR and DPF at Cutlers Diesel in Townsville next week and hopefully get over the factory numbers of 500nm+. Pending any issues, the build really starts and we hope it to become something you don't see much of in Oz, a Jeep Commander that takes the family anywhere. Love it so far 🤞🏻🙏
Started building my brand new navara and went with a big lift etc because I wanted a super tough tourer. Soon realized that big lifts in an ifs rig suck and it handled like crap so changed a heap of suspension to lower it back down slightly. Now it's smoother, more comfortable and I don't 💩 everytime i see a cop
@@evanv4713 psr coilovers and spc upper arms. Used to have oztec 2 inch lift with a set of 35mm spacers on top with was just over 4" of lift. Had huge camber issues so needed double offset bushes, adjustable arms etc to get it somewhat correct again. Looked cool with a big lift but had bugger all down travel and rode harsh
I'm commenting to enter your competition... I'm doing my first ever 4x4 it's a 2001 land rover discovery 2. The reason I'm doing this is because it's been a lifelong dream of mine and as a father and husband I want to take my wife and children to explore this amazing country! The things we will be able to see thanks to having a 4x4 will be mind blowing as we have seen from your awesome show, we all sit down and watch your show every night! Even the kids have seen every episode at least a few times! Thanks guys and good luck everyone. 👍
Currently building a 2010 Toyota Prado to get me ready for a big lap! Started with some muddys, uhf, spottys and a 12v set up - up next is a lift and some sliders. Keen to start hitting some new tracks!
Really epic car to build off! The 3.0 turbo diesel or the V6? Either way two suggestions is get a secondary oil cooler for the auto transmission. Best 500 bucks you'll spend and good peace of mind to keep temps down and reliability up. And also don't skip out on good break pads. Just go genuine Toyota brake pads they last 5 times longer than your Bendix and the likes.
Absolutely, an EVC and/or codebreaker would really help my 2014 FJ cruiser build. The low tire indicator light comes on when I drop the air pressure in the tires. The EVC-x comes in handy to lockout the FJ to prevent theft. That's a really good idea. Another really good idea is to check the curb weight of the vehicle. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to watching more episodes on off-road recovery and rebuild tips.
building a 1981 MQ patrol with a barra engine going in, about to put the cab onto a newer GQ chassis and coil converting the rear end, have also replaced cab interior with GQ parts, all custom bar work has just been finished as well along with alloy tray
I needed this Video 8 years ago when I put my first Chev 6.5lt diesel into a 80 series petrol manual. ( lots and lots of mistakes) fuel system ,Taco, cruise control, vacuum for brakes, the list goes on. You think I would learn. Third 80 rebuild.(started 3 years ago) Chev 6.5lt diesel with chev auto. ( this is now the third motor in this car) After lots of learning and money I think it is all OK. Lots of other mods . Heavy duty front diff, free wheeling front hubs, 6inch lift. 35s, Redarc with lithium batteries, Bushcompany 270 awning and roof top tent(on trailer). Huge fridge and pantry. Your latest video would of made my mods a lot easier. Keep those video's coming. Cheers Paul
My biggest mistake is buying a set of rear drawer setup before even going out on a trip with my 4WD. As a result I chose a configuration that I thought made sense. But after having gone on many trips later, the setup I currently have is not suitable for my use at all. I'm now looking at ditching the ones I have and starting over again. 😟
I'm from Albany Oregon here in the USA & my build is a 2 vehicle family fleet. My "SCOUT" Vehicle that I drive as my daily is an 1998 Ford Ranger 4X4 factory Off-road edition. It's currently bone stock & so far a fantastic vehicle, my current plans for it is a mild lift, tires, some lighting & cargo modifications as well as light body armor. My second vehicle however is a BEAST, a 1993 Chevrolet K1500 Suburban. This monster hauls my wife & 4 kids, WHO by the way LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. It currently has a brush guard & older period correct KC Daylighters on a roof basket. I've added a Garmin GPS but not much else but the adventures we've had so far are incredible. Both of these vehicles are being built by my family in house with nothing more then a car port & both are being built to work together much like the squad of rigs you guys go out with. So CB radios & recovery gear are in the works as well as comfort items for my kids. Keep up your adventures & my family can't wait to watch.
Hey Legends 🇦🇺, I’ve recently bought myself a kitted out TB42 RX GQ Wagon, which (unfortunately) was flooded up to its roof during the floods. The engine is buggered but I’m planning on doing a TD42 swap, as they are undoubtedly one of the best engines around for fourbeing. I’m keen to get it up and running to take around Australia, bush and beyond. Cheers lads 👍
Managed to buy a 2008 Nissan Navara d22 before the covid tax and absolutely loving it. First time really getting stuck into building a rig for what I want, that being a camper/tourer. Already managed a dual battery, 12v and fridge setup thanks to your videos and guides! Next step is suspension and rooftop tent! Awesome content fellas and can't wait to see more!
Thought I'd steer a bit different from the crowd in a build so I decided to buy a 2021 gwm cannon x, an man am I happy with it, have put a steel rear bar on, snorkle, 2 lift, light bar, plus spot reverse lights and a good set of tires. Have a lot more in wanting to do to it so it fully setup as a tourer. But I am really surprised by how good the Ute goes on the road and off and can't wait to finish the build. Also reckon you guys should do a 4wd review on one, as I'd like to see your thoughts on one cheers
I have a NP300 Navara which I have been building up for a little over 12 months. I really enjoy working on my 4x4 and all the mods so far I have done myself at home in the shed. Mods so far include; bullbar, suspension, rims & bigger tires, stainless snorkel and a full custom tray. I’m currently in the process of fitting out my aluminium canopy with some drawers and a 12v system to run my lights and fridge. I have a big NT trip planned for early June with a handful of mates. I have always intended to buy an EVC throttle controller as I watch all of your videos and you guys only have good things to say about them. An EVC throttle controller is definitely on my list of upcoming mods along with a good quality UHF and aerial. Cheers
Just got my first 4wd! A MR triton! So these videos have been a massive help! Keen to start putting some money into it, with a bull bar, 2inch lift and some bigger tyres 🤟🏻
I’m currently building a red 1990 Daihatsu Feroza. Currently built and carpeted a whole rear setup out of plywood and marine carpet, draws, fridge slide and dual battery system in my backyard. Currently buying a parts car this weekend with a mate to steal the barwork and other parts as there isn’t anything commercially available. Absolutely love it!
I'm in the process of building a 150 series landcruiser prado and you blokes inspire not just me but everyone on here as you know diesel are sluggish on take off 🤣
I’m currently long traveling my 93 Toyota T100! I enjoy hearing about your guys struggles because they are all so relatable. We all are learning during these builds!
I am a year into building a 2006 V8 4Runner. Loving it so far, and trying to keep it mellow enough to comfortably fish around the western US, but also keep up on the trail with some of my buddies with 80 series. Love the videos, and would love to scratch a barramundi off the bucket list. Anytime you need a fishing guide in CA, I got you Shauno!
Totally feel your pain Shauno, I am in the middle of a Lexus 1UZ conversion into a 1st Gen 4Runner / Surf, converting it from diesel manual to petrol auto. I naively thought it would take me six weeks, 2 years later (lol) it's still not finished. Now wiring up, but all the points you mention - cross beam, wiring loom, changing the pedals, dash etc etc all takes time and a massive amount of learning. Watching the Sooty 2 build with interest as its a massive motivator for my own build! Good luck, will be awesome when done.
Just finished a Landcruiser Series 200 build ( i say that loosly as you never really finish a build!). I purchased the vehicle new last year and have set it up mainly for outback touring with the odd tough track thrown in. The build included GVM upgrade, ARB air compressor, Cooper STT Pro tyres, snorkel, Safari ECU, ARB front and side bar work, Lightforce lights, Kaymar rear bar with dual wheel carriers, Long range fuel tank, Warn winch, UHF, catch can, secondary fuel filter and dual lithium battery setup. The build was based on my experience in remote travelling for 12 years in my previous vehicle, a Landcruiser Series 100. It was not a cheap build but I plan for it to last me many years, hence the use of quality products.
Good to see East (NSW) and West (WA) together after some months on this channel. All the best to the 4WD24-7 crew, and teams that came across the last few months (years.,).
Brand new 2022 Mazda BT-50, Just had a tray(1600) and canopy(1400) fitted, Animal bull bar, Warn winch, 2inch lift, suspension, wheels tyres, TJM compressor, SupaPeg 270 awning, XRS GME, catch can, pre-line fuel filter, full 12v set up, bushman 85ltr fridge, panty/kitchen plus much more... just need a THROTTLE CONTROLLER :) and need to complete my build by June as I'm heading to Fraser from Melbourne, love you work guys!
As a keen 17 year old I bought a 2008 Luxy which was in absolutely no condition to take up bush! after about 6 months not being able to drive it, adding a Bull Bar, Scrubs and Sliders, Bash Plates, a Winch, 2' lift, Staino J-Max Snork and airbox Clear Views, Spottys, new Headlights, GME uhf and the most important part getting it repainted. working on upgrading my 31' all terrains to some 33' all terrains, a dual battery, new team and upgraded canopy and a throttle control. fast forward today spent heaps and absolutely worth it. just got its first dent after me and dad rebuilt it.
Hey guys, together with my dad we are building a 2016 Toyota Prado. The overall aim for the build is to make a Capable 4WD that we can take the whole family with down some tracks. The prize will help out heaps as the Prado is fairly modern 4WD and it is a very useful piece of kit. Thank you guys, another top video 👍
My partner and I just bought our new 2015 DMax that we are setting up as a tourer. Have ordered a canopy for it, roof top and 270 awning. Our plans are to install a 30mm OME lift, underbody protection and fit sidesteps and rails. Hopefully to be on the road by September, by like everyones build here, I dont think its ever finished haha
Current and first build. I am learning with my 13yo grandson on his 2003 courier TD 4x and so far it has 33” with a bit of grinding and 2” torsion bar lift. For a bit of fun it has colour change headlights 😀
I am currently Building a Hj 45 Toyota land cruiser, went out to a few good camping spots when I first got it one the road, after doing all the basic mechanical work you do to a 43 year old 4x4. Found she reved hard on the highway and because of this the old girl decided she had enough and started big end knocking on the way home. Now I have found a rebuilt engine for the old girl. Going to swap the engine over, rebuild the box and transfer and both diffs. Changing the diff ratio from 4.1 to 3.7 so she's a lot nicer on the highway while keeping the bullet proof 4 speed. She won't be fast but she will take me anywhere :)
I’m building up an older d22 Navara for my first car. The Navara was the farm Ute at one of my first jobs. I just put an awning on and replaced a lot in the front end. Now I want to get a lift and bigger tires, clean it up a little more, light bars, winch, and to make a lot of memories.
Just started building my 2012 Holden RG Colorado, I got it completely stock not even a bull bar so that’s definitely first step along with the suspension upgrade to handle the weight. It’s good to see what everyone else is doing with their rigs 🤙
Ive got a PX3 Ford Ranger XLS, Its just my private toy and have a 2016 SR5 for my company car. I went the ranger for the long legs and comfort on the open road. Im keeping it simple, hence the XLS. Ive done Falken wild peak tires, rear bar, roller cover, stedi light bar and racks for the roof top over the tray, oh and good quality driving! Slide bars, battery set up and fridge to come.... Less is more for me and would love the the code-breaker for that peace of mind out in the bush. Great show guys, keep up the great work
Biggest mistake was the Jeep I bought. Looked really clean, no rust, ran well on the test drives, then we get it and in 6 months it threw a misfire and we replaced the engine, transmission went another 6-8 months after that so that was rebuilt, alternator, battery, trac bar, drag link, steering stabilizer, catalytic converter, steering gear box. Just trying to hone in on the death wobble and then my next step is new and better lift than what is on it now since I think the lift on now is old and worn and just not up to standards anymore. Hoping to get this lift by the end of the year and get that on and then do some full maintenance checks before I go and travel wherever in the US. Great video as always and love the info you guys put out 🤙
Love the show guys. Currently building a navara d40. I've had it 12months and it was bog stock. It now runs a 3inch lift, 2inch body lift on 32's. Picked up a 2nd hand iron Man bull bar which has since been replaced with a bc products bullbar. Installed a full aluminium trade box on the rear which is now gone and now making a custom box. 2 weeks ago I put new rear guards and under mount tool boxes. Still a few more changes to go. Keep up with the great work your doing and hopefully you can do a few more runs to W.A.
Gents, Another cracking vid, and as a career car tragic I can certainly agree with so much of your advice, absolutely spot on. This time around the prizes aren’t going to help my build but I thought I’d share my dream build anyway. Much like Shaun’s build I am rebuilding an old classic. I previously had a GQ wagon that I slowly built up to a decent rig. For me kids came along and I had to sell “Nikki” the GQ and leave my wheeling days being me. 10 years later I am slowly piecing together enough parts/funds/time to build a new GQ wagon, with some lessons learnt fro the past. Since this is a side project it has been little by little and finding time/funds between everything has been the hardest thing. Shauno, Graham, Jocko and team, I live through your videos and love watching the ‘old girls’ hold their own, keep them coming and maybe I’ll see you on the tracks in another few years with my flex beast GQ! Cheers, Marty
My build is still in the process but about 85% done. I have a 2017 Toyota Hilux and have gone from a tub and fibreglass canopy to a aluminium tray and canopy with the 12v set up and drawers systems. The main reason for the build is to start my lap around Australia. You guys inspire me to get out there and explore so I’m going to give it a crack fulltime.
I’m converting a Holden Monterey from auto with TOD (torque on demand) to manual and found that it is no small feat. It involves the five factory wiring looms to change over, setting up switches for engaging the front diff amounts other things! I am so glad I decided to pick up a complete manual vehicle, I decided to bring everything across so the Monterey is as factory as possible so it’s easier to scan for issues and to get parts for. I will be planning to supercharge it at a later date hence why I’m converting to manual. Learning lots of lessons so far!
I am in need of a code breaker! Was half way up a hill a long way from home. The triton threw up a code, almost came back down the hill rolling after she went into limp mode. Lucky the local mechanic was a legend and cleared it for nothing. Could really use one of these. Great ep of beers in the shed boys 🍻
I'm building a 2006 Hummer H3 with a Solid Axle Swap. It is mostly done. I just need to remove the old body lift from when it was IFS, brakes and track down that pin hole power steering leak I've had for a long time. It has 5.13 gears, heavy duty front and rear drive shafts, 1 ton steering components, spring over axle in the rear, 37s, some decent bar work, a winch, two AGM batteries on a charging system powering a 2,000 watt inverter system and is geared up for some great some days in the bush. I plan on taking this out on a week to two week trip in a few months off grid, doing tough tracks and camping where I can. Then find the next site or swimming hole the next day. Making it an over all fun rig that can go the distance and put lots of track behind it.
hey guys first off all i love the videos you guys make. so a few months ago I was helping my grandfather clear out the farm (because he is getting old) so my dad and i have been cleaning for a while and then I discover my grandads old 40 series landcruiser under a rusty tarp!! (btw he has never told me about it) so i call my dad over and we look at this amazing car that has been siting for ages and ages in a barn, anyways i tell grandad about it and he is like " i havent driven that thing in years!) so my dad, grandad and i are all talking and grandad says (and ill never forget this) "Lucas you are an awesome grandson and i know your are getting your p plates soon, I want you to take the 40 series and restore it. I love you its all yours". What a day that was ! love ya grandad. The 40 series is currently in the shed being worked on. my plans for it are not anything crazy, I just want a 40 series that looks good and is mechanically a1. no big tires or anything silly!
Got a Pajero from 2000. Drawers, tires, heavy duty springs and and a new awning are ordered. But first of all, the old girl needs a decent service. Really helpful video. Cheers guys!
Building up a gu patrol from scratch, just added a 12v setup alone with a draw setup, had a few problems with the hubs got the old man over to hop on the tool now she’s running smooth, keep up the great work fellas yeww
I Bought a 2021 FX4 Max, planning on taking the tub off and having a go at a tray build. Definitely a learner at these things. I need some more height as well as we are planning to head down to the Vic High Country next year, then north up the cape again in 2024, so it'll have to be versatile. Big thumbs up for the channel gents - cooking segments are the highlight.
Picked up an 07 Rodeo, it nearly burnt to the ground on the 50km trip home due to previous owners wiring. Hot tip, if you buy something that has a 12v system on it, get it checked out. As for the build, I've removed the hilux tub that was welded to the tow bar, built up a new tray for it. Plans are to install a half canopy to house my fridge and camping gear, whilst still having tray space to utilise. Aiming to tackle tassie later this yr
Built my own tray and canopy with some mates. As im a sparky i did all my own 12v and taught myself some chippy work i never would’ve imagined i could do. Over a year thought about how i use it and what i want out of it to be absolutely perfect. Installed my own 2” lift kit and took many more days than expected, but everything in my eyes has to be perfect. Would love the codebreaker as my “smart alternator isnt so smart and has gotten me into some horrible situations. 1st time taking my dad, went to wattagans cpt. 80 (30min track) 6 hours later with a broken winch, bull bar flew off from other legends scull dragging me up and dad scared. Love ya stuff guys ❤️
I’m a second year apprentice chippy Building up a 105 series has around 400,*** on the clock stock 1hz adding modifications slowly and making sure I have all tools and parts ready to go before adding the modifications (mod plans- 2” lift and sway bar extensions and 33” muddys, stainless snorkel and a standard 3” exhaust and a front locker) planning on doing an fte conversion in the next couple of years
picked up a 1999 4Runner limited, factory 4WD and rear e-locker, 3.4L gas V6. Almost 290,000 miles but runs great. Already have a couple thousand of my own miles on it. Previous owner put on some decent all-terrains and so far just been driving around the Arizona desert when I can. Installed an aftermarket skidplate up front because the OEM one was missing from a previous accident the vehicle had been in. Planning on aftermarket front and rear bumpers, winch for peace of mind, rocksliders, and a way to store extra fuel for longer trips. Would love to do a small suspension lift and supporting mods and get 33s under it, but at the moment she's go the clearance I need and brand new tires I don't want to get rid of yet. Only issue was bad O2 sensor wiring harness, and then had the timing belt/water pump taken care of because they were way past due. Surprisingly rust free for an old Toyota and I have Sooty to thank for getting me interested in the older Toyotas
Hey guys, after driving our swb GQ all around NZ we have finally stepped up to a 2007 GU, ex aus Model zd30, we are slowly getting it ready for some serious adventure, home made draws, raptor coat, front winch with controls wired into the cabin, suspension etc. It's first shake down trip was last week still a few more bits and pieces. The throttle control on the zd30 is a bit of a challenge, it's like driving a bucking bronco up the braided rivers, looking for an ultimate 9 throttle control as our next mod. Keep up the good vids
Currently building a 60 series landcruiser into the ultimate tour rig! An old girl with a couple of nice features to keep it running nice is on the agenda. Currently have done a full Old Man Emu Suspension conversion, added Xrox bullbar, winch, spotties & UHF. Next is the awning, roof cage, rear bar & rock sliders! Keen for the build yew!
Just sold my SR5 LN167 that I've had for 20 years. Bought an MQ Triton with diff lockers, love working on cars, I just have more parts to take off to get to everything now but three times the power and comfort though. Put so many scratches down the sides of her already and that computer thing looks interesting! Upgrades so far are transferable to next vehicle easily: Raptor 24" light bar 4000k, LiPo solar generator & 45L fridge, 40L water tank with inbuilt drinking water approved pump and considering a electrolysis device till cease rust from forming in the first place. 4 for 3 deal ATM on Yokies, so getting them fitted tomorrow - non negotiable LT construction upgrade but also getting 25mm more clearance by jumping up two profiles.
i currently have two builds on the go. a 98 80 series that I am building up to be a reliable daily and touring rig. the vehicle is in pretty good condition and i plan to keep it pretty stock with a few mods like 12v, bull bar, and a few tow mods to transport my other other project. my second more serious project is a 1986 suzuki sierra 1.3l 5 speed. it is a ground up rebuild with a full strip down, sandblast, paint, all new bearings and bushings, new suspension, transmission rebuild, huge 29" tires, diy bar work, winch and a basic 12v system. i am currently paining the body and then getting ready to reassemble. the plan is to put it on club rego, and use it to tackle the tougher track. i plan to it up to the tip late next year and tackle a few of the tracks around there,
I just recently found out im going to be dad so we bought a 2016 Navara completely stock for our family car and so far ive added a kings tub rack for my rooftop tent and 32 inch tires so far. Like you said its the simple mods that can take you even the simplest of places. Taking my time and saving for all my bar work, lift kit, engine remap, catch can. the list goes on but all in due time!
I have a 2011 GU series 4. I have owned it for 6 years now and it is far from stock. I have less than a year till long service leave and are heading to the cape. I have replaced the clutch, 2", lift 33's, superior engineering link pins, fridge slide with camp kitchen underneath, draws. 120 agm battery (going lithium when i can)and 60l fridge, bigger intercooler and 3" exhaust etc. Still no EVC but it is on the list. Biggest mistake was probably getting sucked into mods that cost too much and give little difference in the way my rig drives. Love the content and watch it every week. Keep up the great work. See you on the tracks.
I am building up a 2005 Prado. A real unicorn with low klms. So far I have done roof rack, awnng, lights and UHF. Currently working on the AUX battery and rear setup. Keep up the good work lads!
My last ute stuck out like a sore thumb and got stolen 2 days after fitting the last parts and bar work, I’ve recently picked up a PK ranger and done all the maintenance work. This time I’m planning on keeping it simple and staying under the radar with plans on fitting a 2” lift including upper control arms, 32” tyres on the factory XLT alloys and other basic bolt ons to keep myself busy. A nice reliable ute that should blend in and be ready to take away camping on a long weekend.
Just bought a 2021 Isuzu Lsu space cab and trying find the balance between a daily work car and off road camper is definitely not easy, trying to work around weight issues and having to take heavy tools out every time I go out on a trip never the less having a fun time doing it and it helps when you have 4wd24/7 making you laugh along the way. Love your work.
Me and my old man are building an ex-mines 79 series. Stripped nearly the whole car back, rear end, all interior, doors, all suspension, all the front panels, all intake pieces for carbon clean. Anything that couldn’t be sanded and painted has been replaced. Soon to go get the panels straightened out and a coat of paint, then on the rebuild to get it back to cleanish factory spec. Hopefully should be done before I get my P’s late December.
Just bought my first 4wd after wanting one for the last 5 years but haven't been in a financial place to afford one, after saving for a while I decided to go with older pj ranger, fell in love with the ranger when wheeling with my brother inlaw, just remove my rear seats installed a basic 12v system and now I am currently building my own draw system and fridge box/slide for the back (supercab), planning to build a canopy for it in the next month or so and then once the campus all set up I'll be driving down south (WA based) head straight to Albany and making my way back up the coast to Perth.
Currently doing my first engine conversion, going from a ZD30 auto patrol to an ls1 manual. Has been a huge build but have been enjoying it allot! Bought the car and parked it straight in the shed. Still yet to go on it’s first trip.
I bought a mint ML Triton after after a P-plater pulled out infront of me in my Patrol. I decided on the dual cab to build up for the tran and dogs but she was stock as a rock. So far Ive done tyres, tune and tub rack. Plenty of storage space sorted out, next is a bit of a lift to freshen up the suspension and a big service! Then i gotta convonce the missus to let me do some engine mods as we already own most of the camping gear we need!!! Keep up the good content boys and I hope to see yas on a track in North Queensland at some point!!!
Bought a brand new 2022 triton. In the process of installing everything bullbar, spotties, gme radio, raptor coating the tub, snorkel, roof racks, want to get a lift and some new tyres and head to Fraser at the end of the year for a trip. Love the show. Pretty sure I’ve watched every single episode lol
2010 Mitsubishi Pajero , when sitting still and ready to take off got to wait awhile, gets a little scary any suggestions that could help it get off the mark
Just picked up a ‘14 Hilux SR5, so far I’ve done a provent 200 catch can, direction plus pre filter, nitto ridge grappler A/T’s, and a throttle controller. Planning to get a 2 inch lift, sliders and bash plates in the next few weeks. Been camping and for a bit of a wheel in it and I’m loving it so far. Hopefully can step it up a notch when I get more gear
Bought a 2017 PX2 Supercab Ranger late last year and have been kitting it out since. Have installed an ARB bullbar, Aeroklas canopy, Toughdog 2" Lift, Currently fitting out the canopy for touring and about to put on the EGR flares and some Maxxis Razr AT on Dirty life DT1s. Should be ready for a trip to Finke in June.
I've just finished with building my ranger, warranty is up. Decided with todays market to move it on and go for reliability and grab a bt-50 for the dmax platform (dmax was hard to get within a reasonable time) Putting it together with a mits tray and canopy which is in the process of getting built now, bit of a buy once cry once type scenario. The rigs getting built to camp and do minor touring, mostly to fishing destinations with everything made easy to use and save me time. Less time setting up means more time drinking beers or fishing.
Love the work boys, keep it coming. Recently lost the bike due to flood damage. Used the insurance payout to buy a new DreamMAX to be kitted out as a dirty weekender/ remote camper
It’s really nice to hear people with really expensive cars still like good old d22 Navaras , I’m only 18 and I love mine it’s a great cheaper but capable Ute for young people especially
Great show fellas. I am doing a moderate GVM and track correction pre-rego on a 79 series single cab. Ordered an auto from Rocket and a Tommy camper. 20 years of swags and the wife wanted some comfort - I am all good with that if it gets out remote.
Organise parts and fixings. Photos and zip lock bags marked what they are. Then combine that with photos. Then I organise the bags into plastic crates. Some tape on each crate with what’s in it. Eg. Engine fixings. Interior fixings. Crates with interior parts. Crates with engine parts. Suspension parts and bushes all together in a crate. Spend $50 on crates, ziplocks and a texta, the whole job just got easy.
i have just got a stock 2008 Toyota Hilux n70 and have started building it myself in the shed on a very small budget i am slowly getting there. and love what you guys are doing with the show
I am nearly finished with my 2019 Prado. Iv added most of my weight ( drifta draws, 40l fridge, 12v oven, various kaon goodies so now it's time for the suspension, wheels & tyres 😁 We are keen as to head over WA soon as humanly possible 🤙
Starting a full rebuild on a 1989 Subaru Brumby, it was originally mine when i was 19 now a few years latter i have it back and can't wait to turn it into a little beast of a rig. Rebuilt motor, some straight panels full respray, muddies and a 2 inch lift will be a start.
I’ve got a 11 ranger. Trying to make it nice and reliable to go camping and what not. I see Shawno on the m1 in the gc all the time. Always make sure to give the man a wave! Cheers guys love what you do
I am building up my 2007 RA Rodeo 3.0LTD 4JJ1. Spent last weekend modifying the alloy tray, hurdle and mounted a rooftop tent. Nexts is to fit out the 1200 Alloy canopy
Pick up my 2022 Hilux in June, asked Shauno @ the Brissy 4x4 show what’s the first thing he’d do when buying a new car and he said drive it. Gonna listen to that advice and build as I go. Being a modern car the Codebreaker is a must! 😊
Had a problematic MN triton I just sold as I was finally in a position to buy my dream car a 09 spacecab lux and am slowly starting to make it my own, starting with some slight rust issues and getting everything mechanically right as she's done over 200,000ks. Finally convinced the wife about 4wding and camping and now she loves it!
My first build is a 2004 Toyota Prado. My first 4wd but I love it. I'm building it as a tourer and travelling car, but can't go wrong with a bit of mud and coming home with the car covered in dirt! 12v system needs some work but that is on its way!
In 2016 the timing chain broke on my FZJ80 so I pulled the head, timing cover, water pump, radiator, exhaust manifolds and everything else on the front of the engine to start the work. Ended up getting a divorce, buying a house and moving, life went on and the 80 series repair sat incomplete for 5 years. In 2021 I got back into it and miraculously only needed to order three bolts for the water pump. This was my first major engine repair. Thanks to IH8MUD for the comprehensive 80 series knowledge and particularly Beno for the head gasket and timing set!
If you build a trundle drawer for your recovery gear, remember that chassis rails flex. Make sure you can unbolt the end of it, or you might not be able to get your gear out when you most need it.
😂😂
Speaking from experience?

Just put a deposit on my uncles d22 nav which I’m getting in a few months. I’m 16 and can’t wait to start building, but on a budget. Getting winch bar and winch. 2 inch lift and eventually a diff locker. I’ve been looking at the evc throttle controllers in the hopes of saving money on diesel when city driving and helping to tackle the tricky tracks out the local bush. Love the videos you guys put out and they have inspired me to do such a build. Every time I watch one of your videos I get more excited to build my own rig.
You lads are the reason I dont get any homework done anymore🤣🤣
Same here mate🤣🤣

Hope you end up being a 4wd specialist mate 👍

Joel you are the reason you don’t do your homework lol. You don’t have to watch this channel
I have a 2008 pathfinder ti and i love it. Very underrated 4wd mate. You will love it
@@SuperchargedSupercharged that's a really good point!
@@sirjolly81 I'm looking at 32 inch too! Is that the largest recommended?
Suspension lift?
@@campbellshepherd7882 Not yet. But want to do that in the future.

Be careful mate, I'm pretty sure this prize message is not legit and is phishing. Don't give them any personal details. 🧐🤔
Thinking about center of gravity and how it changes the drivability of the vehicle
Placing the heavier items over the wheels/axels instead of over the far end of the tub increasing leverage in the wrong areas. For example…I placed both jerry cans on one side of the rack. Thus loading up one side instead of placing both jerrycans on each side of the vehicle to cancel each other out.
All fun and games,
Trent.

Most modern 4wd has a S on the gear selector which acts like a TC.

"Buy once, cry once" was my motto on my current build. I spent waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I wanted to, but I got QUALITY parts I know I can rely on.

Currently building a 2010 Toyota Prado to get me ready for a big lap!
Started with some muddys, uhf, spottys and a 12v set up - up next is a lift and some sliders.
Keen to start hitting some new tracks!
30,000km 95% of it bitumen or good gravel roads... good suspension, top quality tyres, Li 12v set up you'll be sweet.

Sometime trial and error is the only way to fine tune though unfortunately.

Hey Legends 🇦🇺,
I’ve recently bought myself a kitted out TB42 RX GQ Wagon, which (unfortunately) was flooded up to its roof during the floods. The engine is buggered but I’m planning on doing a TD42 swap, as they are undoubtedly one of the best engines around for fourbeing. I have a NP300 Navara which I have been building up for a little over 12 months. I really enjoy working on my 4x4 and all the mods so far I have done myself at home in the shed.
Gents,
Another cracking vid, and as a career car tragic I can certainly agree with so much of your advice, absolutely spot on.
Cheers,
Marty
Yeah, spot on advice. Currently in the late stages of a petrol to diesel full conversion of a HJ45 for my young bloke. It's been a 4 year challenge.
Be careful mate, I'm pretty sure this prize message is not legit and is phishing. Don't give them any personal details. 🧐🤔
Please help me shauno
Decided with todays market to move it on and go for reliability and grab a bt-50 for the dmax platform (dmax was hard to get within a reasonable time)
Putting it together with a mits tray and canopy which is in the process of getting built now, bit of a buy once cry once type scenario.
Be careful mate, I'm pretty sure this prize message is not legit and is phishing. Don't give them any personal details. 🧐🤔
100% a scam. Payment options ‘for shopping’ were outside Australia or bitcoin 🤣
