I played the first one and the second for about 5 minutes each. The first had a laughable combat so I left it for dead. The second grabbed my eyes, but my PC is trash so it wasn't able to get a stable frame rate to play. Now, I got a PS4 and have just bought the 3rd game and I think I'm ready to play.
@@phubpem1029 Second one isn't bad and plays well. 2012 was only 4 years before the Witcher 3 came out so it really isn't that old. The original one came out in 2007 and the studio was pretty young. It is a slog to play now. I would like them to remaster/remake it.

Since Game of Thrones is ending(the show is catching up with the end of the books) it would be genius for someone to make a similar styled show using the Witcher lore on HBO....just an idea.
Michael Lattimore Meh, they'd just be accused of trying to capitalize on Game of Thrones. Maybe a few years down the line, but HBO should do some completely different stuff once GoT is finished.
Michael Lattimore there already was a Witcher show based on the Witcher books before that was 13 episodes called The Hexer in 2002, but it got really poor reviews and wasn't very good. I do think if they made another Witcher show it might end up pretty successful, depending on how well it's made and if it isn't too much like other medievil shows. I honestly think a Witcher movie might work better.
OverSizedMidget It's going to end after season seven or eight, since they only have two books worth of stuff before the story in the books ends. They are drifting away from the books a little bit, but the ending is going to be pretty much the same, and the overarching story will be pretty close.
I'm about 40 hours through Witcher 3 and really wishing I watched this before starting... would have made understanding a lot of things quite a bit easier. Either way that was a pretty informative and interesting recap.

People should still at least play Witcher 2, it's an incredible RPG that still stands today in terms of gameplay, graphics and story. You make a lot of important decisions in it and a few will impact the story of Witcher 3, such as the choice of sparing or killing Letho the Kingslayer Witcher. I know this for a fact because you can also slightly see him from behind in one of the trailers. And of course if you do play the 1 or 2 you will actually care for the characters that Geralt encounters such as Triss, Yennefer, Dandelion, Zoltan and many more.
Even though i played the earlier 2 games still i felt like as if even i had lost Memories alongside Geralt,all thanks to IGN for bringing them back ! :D

Why not? A true gamer is immersed in the games doesn't just play the last one. That's like a Star Wars fan just watching Return of the Jedi and watching little five minute summaries of the others. It's fake and honestly disrespectful to the creative people behind the properties.

That's a pretty judgmental statement. Not sure how being a gamer is anymore pathetic than literally any other hobby? I was just saying a true gamer as in a true fan would seek out and indulge in the art and fiction of a game. I just movies as a example. Movies are easier than collecting multiple systems to play various games. However, splinter cell, metal gear and hitman, some of my personal favorites, have all been made into hd collections. If you enjoy the games play all and enjoy the full experience.

Slight correction: It’s actually a two-year gap between Geralt’s death and his return. The first game mistakenly said five, but the second game fixed it by establishing that Geralt and Yennefer died in 1268, not 1265.
Very good, concise recap. I'm new to the story for W3 and wasted 20 min trying to "catch up" on another channel but instead instantly zoned out during their granular, ever-spiraling attempt at a synopsis. Well done IGN!
I just began playing the entire series for the first time. I really like the first witcher game. It has some of that old school RPG charm to it. It reminds me of the first Gothic.
Thanks IGN!! This saves me from having to play the previous games even though I did play a little bit of The Witcher 2. Now I actually understand what is going on and I thought the video was going to be very rushed but it isn't at all. It was quick but smooth and very clear and informative. Now I know Geralt's story. Personally I think he should leave Yenifer and go with Triss because I like her better, lol. And that was from my short time playing the Witcher 2. Now I am physched for part 3 though I might just play part 2 first while I wait for part 3 to go on sale since I already own part 2. Cheers!

This series is the one of the few videos i actually like from ign
I understood more from this video than I did with its 10-20 minute counterparts. Now The Witcher 3 makes a little more sense as I've never played the first two games.
For those of you watching this because of the show. It has nothing to do with the show. The show are based off the books. The games are "sequels" to the books. Same characters and everything though. Both equally amazing in terms of story
