Any insight on why I can’t equip this? The remake doesn’t allow you to choose a gender so I’m not sure what is causing this.

You have to be a female, you can change your gender in the remaster there should be a stone statue in the nexus underneath the staircase below the broken archestone, it costs 25,000 souls though :)
