@@peterstangl8295 even if the sample is recognisable I feel like its still legit if its used to make an actual new song that don't sound like what it came from
This is a really great way to show how samples are used... I find it very interesting how samples are constructed from tiny snippets if a song and, when pieced together, sound so slick and cool.
I've been a Britney fan since her debut, and became a Bollywood fan a decade ago... When I heard Toxic was sampled from BW it made me quite happy to see my fandoms collide lol. Also Toxic is an amazing pop song, a modern classic really, and I'm just glad it was based on a Hindi song 🙂 Popular Indian music (not just Hindi but Telugu, Tamil etc) is really awesome. It deserves international recognition.
Cathy a stellar pop songwriter (see Kylie Minogue Can't Get You Out of My Head) polished the top line melody and & did the lyrics - ie the reason you sing along to it in the car which makes you buy the track in bucketloads. She didn't produce the track hence didn't do the sampling
I was just flicking through the old James bond soundtracks and when listening to the from Russia with love song spectre Island a small part follows the exact same notes. Although I don't think it is anything more than a coincidence.
It's cool to visually see how the melody is constructed from these bits. However, the actual sample itself is not used in Toxic, the melody created in the sample was recorded by Stockholm Session Strings for the track.
Are you sure? If you listen to the real track you can hear the acoustic guitar exactly where it is faintly in the background of the red and yellow clips in this video. I like the way it sounds in the final recording but it would've been an unusual thing for them to recreate if they just wanted the main string line. Maybe they layered it over a version they recorded but I think the sample is in there too.
Ok so I did not know that the Producers looped the first sound also backwards and I have never seen that before. Has to be one of best if not THE best examples to manipulate a sample, hands down.
I feel like most people don't know the Bloodshy half of Bloodshy and Avant went on to be half of Galantis and 1/3 of Miike Snow. It's no wonder their stuff is so well produced and catchy.
OH MY GOSH I AM SCREAMING how did I miss this? A Bollywood classic ?! Really! Man, I am ashamed of myself. Tere Mere Beech Mein?! My Mom still plays that song on repeat and I never bothered to pay attention. Really?!?!? REALLY?!?!!!? How can I call myself a proud desi girl after this massive ignorance?! 😭😭😭
I think it's because the samples are taken from different sections of the song and re-arranged, the samples are only really noticeable when they are used arranged in the same way like Madonna did with Hung Up and Duck Sauce did with Barbara Streisand
Interesting when Toxic came out back in 03/04 it was often commented on re bhangra influences... And this was after several R&B & Rap songs in which had mined Indian music styles.. & Asian fusion in mainstream pop & r&b was beginning to become a thing in the early 2000s

Dude, I have been listening to that bollywood song for YEARS with my parents, and I never even noticed.
I live in India and as soon as I heard Britney's toxic my first reaction was this is a bollywood song
There are many songs out there which have sampled bollywood music.

so did the spy sounding part of the song. most don't know that. but it's probably a sample of a sample
Almost all modern pop music is sampled
