I will never understand why people don't use their subscriptions page. I've never missed a video from someone I'm subscribed to because I just use my subscription page. I can't imagine leaving what I see up to the recommended page.

Sometimes even with that system YT mostly care about recommending things similar to the latest videos you've seen . Just neglect the channel you're subbed to for a month or two , and they'll still fall off . not to mention random algorithm oddities . There have been channel i and others watch daily , with the sub and notifications on , and yet YT ignore them , and you gotta seek them out

Same here. I don't like political stuff and terrible tiktok portrait mode memes. But the YT algorithm throws them at me like candy. It's so annoying to have a start page full of bullcrap. The only thing the algorithm does well is recommending me 15 year old cat meows and classic bird memes, which i dig.
I'm not defending the algo because I think it's awful, but why do you expect it to recommend stuff you already watched? It's actually one of my problems with it, it kept recommending videos I've already seen to the end.
The algorithm doesn't give a damn what you want to watch, it's trying find something that _compels_ you to _eNgAgE_ . It's essentially an addiction-hunting machine. Thanks for that, bright and hopeful techno-future!
RUclips's Ad Algorithm is just as bad. I wish you could dictate the type of Ads that you get. I keep getting Ads in Spanish for some reason and I don't speak the language nor am I of any of the ethnicities that would. Like, I do, occasionally, watch videos in other language despite not being able to understand them. Many are Musical Artists so, by and large, language is irrelevant for that, but the stupid algorithm reads the identifiers for those channels and applies them to me. The other videos I occasionally watch have Subtitles... which RUclips, itself, provides most of the time. I mean, RUclips has the Closed Captioning System that everyone uses so it's like, because I watched, say, a clip from Kamen Rider, which is Japanese, but augmented with English Subtitles via RUclips's own Closed Captioning System, suddenly, to the RUclips Algorithm, I'm now Japanese? WTF?! Or because I watch a Spanish Musical Group sing in English, I'm suddenly a Spaniard or a Mexican now? Really?! And the REALLY shitty thing is that I'm never allowed to skip those Ads, so I can never affect the damned algorithm even that way (Ad Algorithm takes into account what you skip and what you don't, for better or for worse). All of this despite the fact that, in my Account Settings, I'm set to "American" and "English." Like what's even the point of having those settings if the frickin' algorithm supersedes them?
this actually answers a question i've long had about why reasonably large channels frequently split their content across 2 or 3 channels instead of consolidating it in one place. you would think youtube would accommodate people having different topics on one channel by giving you the ability to associate the content under topics or tags or something and then have the algorithm judge it relative to the content with that tag, but i guess that wouldn't make them more money so they don't care.
Yep. It's because a RUclips Channel's Success or Failure is dictated, not entirely by the Channel Owner, but mostly by the Almighty RUclips Algorithm. So RUclipsrs have learned how to manipulate the severely messed up algorithm. Unfortunately, the solution is to multiply their work load by degrees by making multiple channels and keeping up with ALL of them at the same time. Basically the RUclips Algorithm looks at your content, decides what is successful based purely on numbers, then promptly buries content that isn't in the category of the successful content because, as far as the numbers are concerned, it's already failed and, thus, detrimental to the Channel. Which, of course, is a load of BS, but it's not like RUclips cares enough to program their algorithm right and RUclips's entire infrastructure is dictated by this algorithm. It's what determines what videos are to be promoted by RUclips and to whom they are to be promoted. The RUclipsrs with "Empires" don't have those "Empires" because they ever wanted them, or want them even now, but because they were forced into by RUclips's broken algorithm. A good example of this is MatPat. He doesn't have his massive "Theory Empire" because he wanted to make a separate channel for every little thing he could make a theory about. No, it's because if he tried to put all of that on one channel, the RUclips Algorithm would implode due to how wildly different they would all be and his Channel would have died faster than Battlestate Games' Reputation did. He, literally, had no choice but to make a channel for every category of "Theory" he wanted to explore. It worked out well for him in the end, but initially it was not his choice to make. It was either do that, or find a new a job.

I had a similar problem. When i started doing more streams and shorter form videos, my longer videos (which my channel got popular for and made the most money) started tanking. As soon as I moved the shorter videos and streams to a second channel, the long videos started doing better again. Still not quite back at the level i was before that happened, but have been growing again for the last year or so at least.
Okay. I was a little confused at first, but I understand the meaning behind it. The videos may take a couple extra clicks to get to, but thankfully the audio is still available on Spotify anyway. Thanks for the update, and good luck with the new workflow !

I have only heard great things about it when I looked up the reviews for it but I have experienced the same kinda issue (sudden micro freezes and confused focusing when using blur, albeit the later is probably software related) . just wondering because if so, its not just mine that is messed up then. cool news beside that
I think this is the right choice in the long run. I recall thinking to myself that the podcast should have its own separate channel when I was watching it previously. That's how I see most other channels that run podcasts separately and I think it helps people distinguish it from your regular content subconsciously, algorithm mumbo jumbo aside.
I very much recommend people go through their subscriber list and unsubscribe from things they don't actually want to see. Then use the Subscription tab to look for things to watch, rather than relying on the Home page. This will help you find content from the people you want to see, and also help the creators to not be slammed by the algorithm as much. :)

Yep that’s what I thought, Funhaus when they made Funhaus Too was precisely because of RUclips’s algorithm was hunting podcasts and long form content that trended towards lower views compared to short form content. Good calls and can’t wait for more videos

I love play watch listen and all your other video game content. I agree work life balance is key! I admit, I can listen to you anytime, but for the podcast I have to set time aside so I can focus on it a bit more. Regardless, both are great and glad you are still running it.
You can also (at least for a while) pull out an interesting section (or something you make interesting with some additional editing) and show it as a short on this channel. I hate when that is done on the podcast channel (since I have usually already watched the podcast) but doing it on your main channel can still get you new viewers of the podcast.

I hate when that is done on the podcast channel (since I have usually already watched the podcast) but doing it on your main channel can still get you new viewers of the podcast.
Alas, that would require more work/editing and this is largely about me wanting to have a healthier work-life balance lol

RLOC was cancelled at the end of last season.

I think I missed this answer in the video, but the old episodes of the podcast, will always stay as delisted on this channel? or are they gonna move to the new channel too? because I want to keep watching the new episodes, but also sometimes I like to re watch the old ones, and I'm curious about those
They’ll stay de-listed on this channel, it’s not worth re-uploading that many episodes imo.

Even though I'm one of the people who does enjoy everything you make, I love how the channel looks sans-podcasts and I like the idea of the podcast (and similar content) having its own channel. I'm also one of those people who make a billion lists and notes organizing things so this appeals to me on a very specific level 😆
