  • Earlier this year we witnessed AT&SF 2926 make its first run out of the NMHR restoration site and under its own power since 1953. Now we’ll see the engine make it’s first run on the mainline.
    The engine went to the two-day New Mexico Railroad Days 2023 event just South of the Alvarado Transportation Center in downtown Albuquerque. Also on display was the tool car (NMSX 3939), A BNSF ET44C4 (3695), and Amtrak’s Operation Lifesaver unit (203)
    The first shot early in the morning is at Lomas Blvd. right outside the Burger King. The next is the same location just across the tracks now, and we finish off with 2926 going down the Sawmill Spur across 5th St.

    My 100 year grandfather who worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, was 30 years old when 2926 last ran. 70 years later, I took him to see the engine yesterday! Great work they have done!

    Santa Fe 2926 is handsome and massive masterpiece of a steam locomotive and I glad to see this engine back in service again after 70 years. I am looking forward to seeing engine 2926 hauling passenger excursion trains across New Mexico and hopefully, this type of action will happen in 2024 as I am eager to see 2926 hauling a mainline passenger train.

      I've operated an auxiliary package boiler that had problems with its atomizing air / steam system. When atomizing pressure to the burner was lost the fire would go out and come back a few seconds later with a big baWHOOOM that made the burner end wall flex outward - scary stuff when you're standing right there next to it, at ground zero!
      Most likely, 2926 had a fuel delivery glitch to the burner or a problem with the atomizing steam system, perhaps a slug of water.

    I've watched a couple of these and most of the restoration videos over the years and I'm over it. IF and I say IF they ever decide to make an excursion run and someone videos it I'll watch, but I've seen more than enough of it puttering about.

      Boiler temperature most likely, probably adjusted the steam flow from the regulator (looks like a dome, you can see it at 1:34 just under the clouds and just behind the numbers) to the cylinders when it was really moving.

      @chooch1764 2 месяца назад

      Because steam locomotives still prove to be intriguing to generations young and old. It’s important to preserve these artifacts as they helped build the United States. For many years, steam locomotives have hauled people and freight from coast to coast. They even helped the U.S. haul troops and military vehicles during WWI and WWII. Today, the locomotive has the potential to haul excursion trains out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This massive steam locomotive will draw railfans worldwide, boosting tourism in the land of enchantment.
